Peloton Instructor Salaries – How much does a Peloton Instructor Gets Paid?

Interviews have shown that Peloton instructors make anywhere from a six figure salary all the way up to over $500,000 in total compensation.

Peloton is now a publicly traded company, with thousands of employees spread out across the world.  The company sells their products in the US, Canada, the UK, Germany, and Australia.

Even with all of these employees, the Peloton instructors remain the public face of the company.  They are who the members virtually interact with on a day to day basis – which means the coaches are who members associate most with the company.

With this pressure and importance to the company – Peloton fitness instructors are well rewarded for their work.

Peloton Instructor Salaries – How much does a Peloton Instructor Gets Paid?

As with any company, the salary range for each Peloton coach varies based on their specific role, experience, and other factors – however, in several interviews a range of salaries has been alluded to for the coaches.

In 2019, Peloton instructor Jess Sims revealed that she earned a “six figure salary with stock options” in an interview with the Wall Street Journal.

An unnamed coach who was hired in 2020 was also revealed to have a “six-figure salary and bonus offer”, in a separate interview with Bloomberg.

In that same Bloomberg report, it was shared that the more senior instructors can make “upwards of $500,000 in total compensation” as of 2021 – which would include both salary, stock options, and bonuses.

How Much Do Peloton Instructors Make?

As covered above, the specific amount of money a Peloton instructor makes is dependent on their specific job and experience.

When the company was starting out, the company likely had to pay more money for the first instructors to lure the talent they needed to create classes that would bring in new members and keep them coming back day to day.

As the company and platform has grown, working at Peloton has become more desirable, and there are people beating down the door to try to work at the company – meaning Peloton doesn’t necessarily have to offer quite as much money as they would have before. However, they still want to attract the best talent, so will still pay their instructors very well, whether they are teaching on the Bike, Tread, Yoga, or any of the other workout types.

Peloton instructors are also able to make advertising deals & partnerships with other companies as well.  Just visit any instructor’s Instagram page, and you’ll find them sharing paid posts with several brands.  This is a way for the coaches to supplement their income, as well as promote other companies they support and believe in.

How Much Does Cody Rigsby (Peloton Instructor) Make?

Over the last year, Cody Rigsby was catapulted into the spotlight thanks to his appearance on Dancing With The Stars. As such, that has made people very curious about how much money he is making with Peloton.

In addition to being a senior instructor, Cody Rigsby is also the Director of cycling at Peloton – he was personally responsible for recruiting & helping with hiring many of the newer instructors to work at Peloton in the early days of the company.

With this added responsibility, comes additional income – it’s widely believed he is one of those coaches who makes more than $500,000 in total compensation. Cody was recently able to purchase a nearly $1.5 million penthouse in New York City. However, this was also when Peloton stock was near its peak, and with the amount of time he has been at the company, he is assumed to have quite a bit of of net worth from that Peloton stock price.

Like many of the other coaches, Cody Rigsby has a number of external sponsorships as well that he promotes through TV commercials, traditional advertising campaigns, as well as posts through his own social media channels. It’s not known exactly the value of each of these campaigns – but Cody has worked with some large names like GM, Capitol One, and more.

How much money does Peloton CEO John Foley Make?

Peloton’s public regulatory filings have revealed that Peloton CEO / Peloton founder John Foley earned $17.8 million dollars (in total compensation, including stock awards & equity awards) for Peloton’s 2021 Fiscal Year (from July 1, 2020 – June 30, 2021).

How much money do Peloton employees make?

Peloton’s filings have also shown that the median Peloton employee earned $56,084 during the 2021 Fiscal Year (from July 1, 2020 – June 30, 2021). This includes both hourly as well as full time employees.  However, in part as a result of declining stock value, it has been reported that the salary & bonus structure of showroom employees was modified due to declining demand for Peloton products.

What Is a Peloton Instructor’s Salary?

Ally Love, Cody Rigsby, Jess King, Alex Toussaint, Tunde Oyeneyin, Sam Yo — they’re all such a critical part of your Peloton fitness journey.

On a daily basis, each Peloton instructor comes out with a new, exciting class to try, whether that be a 20-minute pop cycling ride or a an hour-long bootcamp for runners. It’s evident that despite the pressure to constantly create new content, each instructor looks more than happy to put in the time and energy (and we’re so grateful they do!).

Thankfully, it sounds like Peloton recognizes this hard work and rewards its instructors for representing the premier fitness brand so very well. Though Peloton has never released set salary figures for its instructors, we can roughly gauge what your teachers are making based on what some have told various media outlets.

Of course, just like in other jobs, some are likely paid more than others, perhaps due to the number of classes they teach, prior experience and/or title differences (for example, Cody is Peloton’s Cycling Director who helps recruit other instructors to the company).

Keeping that very important caveat in mind, NYC-based tread instructor Jess Sims told The Wall Street Journal in 2019 that she made “six figures with stock options.” She also gushed to the newspaper that Peloton was “easily the best job you could have as a fitness instructor because we are treated like professional athletes. We get paid time off. We go to physical therapy every single week to prevent injuries.”

A Bloomberg report from 2021 also seems to confirm Jess’s claims:

One instructor last year received a six-figure salary and bonus offer. More-senior instructors make upwards of $500,000 in total compensation, say people familiar with the company — not counting the money they can make from external sponsorships. [Peloton founder John Foley], a big believer in shared ownership, has also handed equity awards to people throughout the company’s ranks. Regulatory filings show current and former employees as of Sept. 30, 2020, held stock options with several billion dollars of unrealized gains.

Again, while we don’t know for sure that each instructor earns a six-figure salary, it does sound like from these two reports that the company treats them well. In fact, The New York Post recently reported that Cody closed on a $1.46 million penthouse in Brooklyn, New York.

To become part of team Peloton, London-based cycling instructor Leanne Hainsby told Metro that the company makes sure to hire those who are qualified indoor instructors. “There are three levels that you can complete and they are offered through a range of fitness providers,” she explained to the outlet. “How long it takes to finish the course depends who you go with – it can be a few weeks or even a few months – and you will need to pay for most of them.

As for Leanne, she takes yoga and works out four to five times per week and trains with a personal trainer two to three times per week, in addition to the Peloton classes she teaches.

The hustle is real, indeed!
