Your two-year-old may be too young to understand the idea of parties. However, you can ensure that her birthday party is full of fun and serves as bonding time for the family.

At two years, your toddler may not understand much about the concept of birthday parties. The main purpose of a birthday party for a two-year-old is just family bonding and some fun. So, keep your ideas and planning for a birthday party simple.

Here is a template for planning a birthday party for a two-year-old.

Planning time: 2 weeks

Timing: Evening is always the best time to host a party, as people would like to retire for the day after the excitement. Restrict the duration to two hours at the most as your toddler will find it difficult to stay up longer.

Guest list: Determine the number of guests based on how your child reacts to groups of people. Toddlers may not enjoy having too many people around. Your guest list can include grandparents, relatives and close family friends.

Invitation card ideas: Involve your toddler in simple artwork such as making vegetable prints, block prints, sponge painting, etc., to create simple invitation cards. Give them out to invitees a week ahead of the party.

Party decoration: At this age, your child will be fascinated by colours and shapes, and you can use this to engage her imagination. Use colourful balloons and other decoration material that will catch her attention.

Music: Play soft music in the background. Download popular birthday songs. Make a loop of other popular songs and let the music run. Have a few popular dance numbers which the guests will enjoy.

Party menu: Make miniature-size food items of different shapes and colours. Here are some ideas to get you started:

  • Mini sandwiches
  • Small transparent pots of colourful jellies
  • Fruit tikkas on small-sized toothpicks

Party games and activities: After food, exciting games and activities form the main attraction of any party. So, here are a few ideas:

  • Ball-bucket game: In this game, you need to throw the ball and make it fall inside a bucket kept at a distance. This is a game your toddler will enjoy, and so will other children.
  • Dance bash: Who does not enjoy an energetic dance session? Your toddler will love it, too. Have a good choice of songs, and make sure that they are appropriate for children.

Goody bag contents: Give out a goody bag with party favours to each family. Here’s what can go into a goody bag:

  • A small memento
  • A personal gift for each member of the family
  • Be mindful of your child’s mood and attend to her. You do not want any temper tantrums to spoil the fun.
  • Ask people for their preferences for food and music before you make the party arrangements.
  • Do not forget to give out prizes to winners of each game.
  • Be careful while handling candles and knives.

How to Throw an Easy Toddler Christmas Party

Get ready to throw a toddler Christmas party that little kids will love.

This post may contain affiliate links, view my full disclosure policy here.

It’s the holiday season and Christmas parties are happening left and right.  School age kids have classroom parties, adults have work parties, then there are family and friend get togethers.

I have small children and often times they tag along but rarely do they get a party of their own. I thought it would be fun to throw a toddler Christmas party for my 2-year-old and her friends with food, crafts and decorations tailored just for them.  Here’s how you can throw a Toddler Christmas Party.

These Christmas party ideas are easy to replicate, take a look at my product recommendations and simple ways to display food and activities.

I wanted to have a party with a few snacks, one craft and one activity that 2-3-year-olds would enjoy. Kids this age really just want to play and explore, so too much structure would be a bit much.  I opted instead for a simple set up that they could partake in at their leisure.

To streamline your party planning, check out this free printable event planning template from Free Organizing Printables, it’s a great way to plan and keep everything in order.

Pick a theme.  I chose red and white winter items that I know I can reuse for other events. These decorations hold up really well and I’m looking forward to using them for my family Christmas party too. Many of these decorations can be found at Oriental Trading or on Amazon.

Choosing a colorful yet simple theme is ideal for kids this age. They love bright colors and are too young to appreciate anything super intricate.

Create a photo booth. I chose a winter back drop and hung it up in my kitchen, a big statement with very little effort.  I paired that with a set of winter hats, scarves and other fun photo props that the kids and adults can use to take silly pictures.

Little kids can grab a prop and pose in font of the winter back drop. The props are easy to hold with wood handles and big cut outs. Adults can get in on the fun too and post with the kids.

If you want to craft a little before the party, you could always make your own photo props. Try these zoo animal masks made out of craft foam. Use this idea to create winter animals for the party.

Chose a craft. I chose an easy craft, a snowman picture frame, that kids can work on with an adult.  They just peel and stick the pieces together.  Very little mess!  This craft works really well with the winter-themed photo booth.  It makes for a cute memory after the party.

You can use a small portable photo printer that connects to your phone and print the photos during the party. This way kids can add their picture as soon as they are done with the craft.

Toddler’s really want instant gratification so having these photos available right away is the best way to go.

Set a kids sized buffet. For food I went simple, really simple.  Kids can be picky so a fancy spread is really not necessary.  I chose carrot and celery sticks, yogurt pretzels, and string cheese.

I served water and juice in cute straw bottles that kids can take home after the party.  The food was set out on a kid-sized table so little hands can reach.

Keep in mind if you set out the toddler Christmas party food at kid height, then they will grab at everything. Be sure to use non breakable dishes and finger foods that won’t create too big of a mess.

Timing is everything for toddlers. Plan a party between naps and ideally not during a meal. Mid morning can be a great time to get these kids together after a nap. Or try a party in the afternoon before dinner.

Here are a few more pieces you can add to this toddler Christmas party

  • Christmas game. Keep it simple but create something fun for kids and adults to play together.
  • Christmas carols. Turn on a holiday playlist and sing along to some favorite tunes.
  • Gift exchange. Have each child, or family, bring a small gift and host an exchange. Each child will go home with a special gift from the party.

These few activities, simple food and pretty decorations make for an easy and festive toddler Christmas party.  To top it all off I sent each friend home with a festive gift box that included a fancy lollipop, their craft with a photo, and a bottle. A few mementos from a fun party.

What would you add to this Christmas party for little ones?

Thanks for visiting!

How to arrange a holiday for your child: 18 simple ideas for home games and entertainment

Lucky for those who were born in the warm season: pizza, blanket, lemonade, frisbee in the nearest park – and a great birthday is ready. In winter and autumn, cafes or playrooms have always been an alternative to the park, but during a pandemic, massive outings outside the house are not the best idea. So we invite everyone to our place: together with Viber, we figured out how to keep the birthday boy and guests from getting bored.

The main question of the universe, humanity and in general is what to do with children for 3-4 hours in a small space and a limited budget? Catch 17 phenomenally simple ideas. The children will be delighted, and in addition to the materials at hand, you only need one more adult volunteer and agree with the neighbors below that you will make a little noise.

1. Where do the footprints lead? No excitement and search for you. So we take out the insole from the child’s shoe, trace it on thick cardboard and cut out traces according to this layout (it’s better to make more of them). We attach the marks to the floor with double-sided tape. One trace – one task or question. “Your favorite ice cream?”, “The most delicious candy is…”, “What are you dreaming about right now?”. Turn the road to a gift into a mini-interview. It can be filmed and made into a good family tradition.

And if guests are expected, then such a path of footprints can be made an element of the quest. But then make sure that, in addition to the gift for the birthday boy, the cache would also contain gifts for all participants in the event.

2.

Wish balloons

Balloons are the most useless waste of money. You are literally buying air. But children cannot explain this. So once a year you can go broke (cunning: inflate only balloons with helium according to the number of children, and the rest with plain air).

Helium balloons can then be released into the sky (for example, when you go to see off guests) by tying wish notes to them. And with everyone else – just rage and play “pop the booty balloon”, air football and basketball and just throw them at each other. Caution: princesses’ hairstyles will quickly become unusable. But by this moment, they, most likely, will no longer be up to beauty.

3. Improvised masquerade

Face painting and mother’s cosmetics are things that, as a rule, are not used in everyday life. Another thing is the birthday. Entrust the older children to become makeup artists for the younger ones or try your hand at the art of face painting – let the little guests turn into kittens, tiger cubs and pandas.

You can also let the children rummage through your closet (removing your favorite things from there in advance, you never know). And arrange something like a mini fashion show.

Life hack: augmented reality masks from Viber can become an alternative to face painting and makeup. With funny faces of raccoons, foxes, ladies in a thick layer of cream, children’s fashion experiments will become even more fun – you will please grandmothers, relatives and friends who could not come to the party, but remain in touch in the messenger.

4. Paper disco

In general, children need very little to be happy. Five kilograms of cut gold or silver paper (choose hypoallergenic), favorite music and the opportunity to dig into these sparkles will give them a couple of hours of delight. By the way, despite the fact that it is rather difficult to clean up the consequences of such a party, you will end up with a perfectly clean room, because paper collects dust very well.

5. Message to the birthday man

It is not necessary to have a higher art education. All you need is a piece of paper. It is better to take not white, but color, in your favorite shades of the hero of the occasion. And also colored pens, including white or silver, if you use dark-colored paper, and finger or gouache paints.

Let each guest make an imprint (or outline) of his hand on whatman paper, sign it and write (draw) a wish. You can dilute such a wall newspaper with funny photographs and quotes from a child from the time when all children are unsurpassed philosophers.

6. Wall of Honor

You probably have an endless supply of baby photos, and if not, it’s time to print them out. We stretch the twine (or you can use a special garland with light bulbs and mini clothespins) and attach to it a photo of the hero of the occasion and a question about him (it is important that the guests know the answer to it or at least be able to guess).

Just remember: the older the child, the greater his need for personal space, so first find out if he is ready to let his friends know the details of his life in diapers and talk about his first love in the sandbox.

7. A keepsake

A birthday without a master class and not a birthday at all. So we buy white t-shirts in the nearest sports store or hypermarket, give them to children along with fabric paints and offer to create your own pop art masterpiece. You can just put handprints or even heels, or you can try to portray something. Best friends will then be happy to wear similar T-shirts to school or kindergarten.

8. Cake without baking

A luxurious custom-made cake (just like on Instagram!) you probably already planned without us. But you can offer the children to build their own – alternative (be prepared for the fact that they will most likely not eat it – well, okay). You will need ready-made sponge cakes, plain or chocolate, boiled condensed milk or chocolate paste, whipped cream, marshmallows and an endless amount of confectionery toppings and sweets. Collecting a cake is fun, at the same time you can eat a lot of sweets, and the result … This is the tenth thing.

9. Catch a wave

Two adults take a blanket, a sheet or a sling left over from the time of babies and make waves. And the task of the children is to rush under them so that they are not covered with a cloth. The one touched by the cloth is out. And the one who survives all the rounds and remains alone will receive a small prize.

10. Gossamer

For this game, you will have to get an elastic band from the mezzanine (well, or buy a skein of elastic band in the household), and then artistically drag it between the chairs and invite the children to climb through this web without destroying the structure. If you have a large corridor, you can build an entire obstacle course out of rubber bands or ribbons. But at the end, then the prize should be waiting – a glass of homemade lemonade or a milkshake is quite suitable.

11. Over the bumps

The tracks you used to make an unknown path will also be useful for entertainment. Who will run faster on one foot along all the tracks? And on the other leg? And will it pass on all fours, touching only the footprints? There are many options, and even more fun.

12. What about decor?

Have the children come up with x number of ways to decorate a room with balloons without damaging any wall. And mark the time.

13. Drag Candies

A bowl of endless multi-colored dragees or any other light candies, cocktail tubes and paper plates are props for the contestants. For entourage, you can take an hourglass. Who can drag more candies without hands in the allotted time? And of course, they can all be eaten.

14. Treasure hunt

Hide a certain number of items in your apartment or house – it can be figures from kinder surprises, felt-tip pens or pens, photographs of the birthday boy, which will be needed to organize “birthday wishes”. The task is to find them all, with or without hints. Adults will have at least 20-30 minutes to forget about the children, exhale and drink tea to the cheerful uproar.

15. Portrait of a birthday boy

Paste on the wall or put on an easel drawing paper (it is better to use a roll of paper: cheaper and more convenient). We blindfold each child, give out pencils, wax crayons or paints and offer to portray the birthday man. We hang a gallery of portraits and a self-portrait in a conspicuous place.

16. Gifts for everyone

We tie small souvenirs packed in kraft paper onto a string. These can be notebooks, erasers, sharpeners, pencils, squishes, slimes, etc. We blindfold the children one by one, give out scissors, bring them to the garland, offer to “tick” the scissors in the air – and cut off the gift at random. You can also exchange surprises.

17. Who will you be?

Prepare stickers for the number of children and write the name of a character or object on each (animals, sweets and vegetables / fruits are also suitable), stick them on the backs of the participants. And keep one sticker for yourself, and let the children stick it on you. The task of each player is to find out in the evening who he is by asking questions to other players. And you can only answer “yes” or “no”.

18. A birthday is…

Have the children use facial expressions and gestures to show everything they associate with a birthday. Only, mind you, in turn. Gradually, the game will grow beyond the theme of the birthday cake, and children will be happy to finish playing it themselves. And parents will finally be able to disappear somewhere in the bowels of the kitchen. Phew. And cheers!

arrange a party for a child in Moscow

Holidays for kids are most often spent at home, less often in kindergartens and restaurants.
When organizing a holiday for children under three years old, we advise you to take into account that kids get tired quickly and tend to be capricious. Therefore, if you are celebrating a child’s birthday, do not make it a long one. One hour for an entertainment program is perhaps the maximum time you can count on.
Games are best selected simple. Until the age of three, not all children speak, so organizing contests is pointless. It is desirable that parents also take part in the game program, so the children will be calmer and more interesting.
Young children will be interested in birthday animators:
After some play, surprise the little ones with something. For example, trained animals may be invited to the party. It’s no secret that all kids love animals and are familiar with many of the fairy tales. We can also advise you to pay attention to the show of soap bubbles. Such a performance is interesting for both toddlers and older children. The show is interactive, the guys themselves can try to inflate bubbles of different sizes and shapes, and catching them is no less exciting.

Clowns can come to the children for the holiday. For the little ones we recommend:

For a holiday in kindergarten, we can offer puppet shows for kids:

A performance with ventriloquism based on a Russian folk tale.

Based on the fairy tale by S. Mikhalkov “The Three Little Pigs”.

Winnie the Pooh and his friends wish your child a happy birthday!

Three fairy tales in one performance with a unique screen!

Theatrical production based on the Russian folk tale of the same name.

Children’s performance based on the Russian folk tale “Teremok”.

Based on the folk tale “The bull-tar barrel”.

Based on the fairy tale by H. Auster “A Kitten named Woof”.

One of the main reasons for the joy of the baby can be decorating the holiday with balloons. Bright colors, familiar cartoon characters and figures that our decorators can make will certainly give a lot of bright emotions and happiness.
In addition we can offer:

Fairy-tale characters or plush animals for a children’s party.

Numbers with trained animals for a child’s birthday

Decoration of a children’s party in any style.

Video filming for children’s holidays

We paint children’s faces, make temporary tattoos.

Walking on horseback or in a carriage.
