(Thinking) over the rainbow

After decades of service, little could disturb Dr. Gears’ calm. He adapted to his career as a researcher with the Organization, hardening his character to the point where many of his colleagues considered him completely emotionless and perhaps even something of an advanced robot.

Even if it bothered him, he didn’t show it.

He entered his office, sat down at his desk, turned on his computer and logged into the scipnet network. He intended to complete the report on the recent CK-type reality shift that changed SCP-049 so much., but something on the screen made him raise his eyebrows slightly.

The Organization logo was filled with the Rainbow Banner, with brown and black stripes at the top.

Slightly surprised and a little excited, Gears pressed the intercom button on his desk.

“Dr. Clef, please come to my office,” he said quietly, and did not take his eyes off the screen until his longtime colleague appeared in person.

– What’s up, Chuck? Clef said nonchalantly.

“I’m afraid the Organization’s internal network has been hacked,” Gears said, pointing to the altered logo. “We need to call maintenance personnel to conduct a full diagnosis and determine the damage. Most likely, the attackers only wanted to steal the database, and the changed logo was left as a business card to tease us, but despite this, we should check the system for malware and file changes. Do you think it could be a related organization that opposes recreational cannabis use because it harms its members’ ability to play online games?

— Hey, Gears, are you yourself by any chance blowing here? Clef asked in mild bewilderment. – The network is not hacked. Just the logo hung out for the month of pride.

– Pride Month?

Yes. June is LGBTQIA Pride Month.

– LGBTQP… what?

– Support for gay people, Gears, support for gay people. The rainbow has been added to the logo to show our support for non-heteronormative employees.

Gears looked at the screen in confusion, and then turned back to Clef.

– We are a secret international non-governmental organization dedicated to the study and containment of the paranormal. What does this have to do with the rights of sexual minorities?

— These days, Gears, everything is politicized. If you’re not for something, then you’re against it. Seriously, where have you been for the last thirty years?

“Worked at the Organization’s secret facilities, without any knowledge of the outside world,” Gears stated.

– … Argument.

– I admit that I may not be aware of the current socio-political environment, but we have a significant number of culturally conservative staff. But do we risk offending them with this logo? Perhaps it would be better to remain neutral on this issue, since it does not directly affect the work of the Organization?

“There is no more neutrality on such matters,” Clef replied, shaking his head sadly. We live in a very polarized time. June is the month of pride, and if we do not openly support it, then we are against it by default. To be against this is to be on the side of the alt-right, which means we can instead launch rare Pepes all over our intranet.

— Such rare Pep…

— Fascist frogs, Gears. Fascist frogs.

— Fascist frogs?

– Fascist frogs. Internet meme that makes fucking frogs fascist! Clef said, mimicking Alex Jones to the best of his ability. — So, if we don’t have anything else…

— And I wonder what the black and brown stripes on top mean?

– Comprehensiveness. They show our support for people of color. Just because it’s LGBT Month doesn’t mean there aren’t other injustices. All together in a single impulse, all such blissful dregs.

— But real rainbows don’t…

— Well, real rainbows aren’t all-encompassing anymore, Clef interrupted. “That rainbow shouldn’t be real, Gears. It is a symbol of support and solidarity for equality and inclusiveness.

Gears carefully looked at the screen again.

– Well, if so, why is there no pink stripe – for women’s rights? This is also a fairly significant political movement, isn’t it?

Clef shrugged indifferently.

— You have to stop somewhere. There is not much space in the logo.

“I understand,” Gears said in an unsure tone. “Dr. Clef, to be honest, I’m confused by how well you’re taking it all. You, after all, are full of firearms and have insulted just about every woman you’ve been in contact with for any length of time. I would consider that for you any form of political correctness is a violation of your right to freedom of speech.

“As long as I have the right to bear arms, I don’t worry about other rights,” Clef replied. “And… Draven said that if I didn’t stop being an alt-right troll all the time, then he wouldn’t invite me to his wedding to Talloran.” I really need to be at that wedding, Gears. Otherwise, it will be awkward. All the big ranks will be at that wedding.

– Yes, this will be a great opportunity for our enemies to wipe out most of our senior staff in one blow. Perhaps we should assign someone to the role of survivor in advance, ”Gears thoughtfully noted. – Once again, to make sure I understand this correctly – we have not been hacked, we support sexual minorities, and our logo is now an incorrect, but ethnically inclusive rainbow?

— Yes, Happy Respect Month, Chuck! Clef smiled, patted him on the back, and left the office.

Gears turned to the computer, but before he started typing, he lingered on the altered logo.

— Who came up with the idea to name the frog Pepe? he asked in an undertone, addressing no one.

– Fascists! came Clef’s reply from the hallway. Nina Hagen0090 Is that the video?

No, please specify other Yes, that’s right

Somewhere over the rainbow

Somewhere over the rainbow

Somewhere over the rainbow
Way up high,
There’s a land that I heard of
Once in a lullaby.
Somewhere over the rainbow
Skies are blue,
And the dreams that you dare to dream
Really do come true.

Someday I’ll wish upon a star
And wake up where the clouds are far
Behind me.
Where troubles melt like lemon drops
Away above the chimney tops
That’s where you’ll find me.

Somewhere over the rainbow
Bluebirds fly.
Birds fly over the rainbow.
Why then, oh why can’t I?

If happy little bluebirds fly
Beyond the rainbow
Why, oh why can’t I?

Somewhere over the rainbow,
High, high
There is a country about which they sang to me
In a lullaby.
Somewhere over the rainbow
The sky is blue-blue,
And the wildest dreams
Surely come true.

The day will come when, after making a wish on a shooting star,
I will wake up where the clouds are far, far away
Behind me.
In that land, sorrows melt like lemon candies.
There, high above the chimneys of houses
you will find me.

Somewhere over the rainbow
Blue birds of happiness are flying.
Birds fly,
Why, why can’t I?

If tiny blue birds of happiness fly
Above the rainbow,
Maybe I can too?
