Early Childhood — Preschool through Kindergarten

“When we first started the application process for our older child, we could say that our initial interest in Oak Grove was sparked by it being founded by Krishnamurti. Even though we can say that is still our primary draw, after touring the campus and meeting faculty, our impression of the school has become more informed, and a deeper appreciation has blossomed. It is very palpable that Krishnamurti’s presence is infused throughout the school and his simple guidance is still very much alive. It’s clear that Oak Grove is successfully implementing making children feel safe, secure, and loved. It is our feeling that this is an essential component of the foundation of a rewarding education.” -Prospective parent

Discovery

The Early Childhood Programs at Oak Grove School provide young children a wide range of experiences in a very nurturing environment. Because Preschoolers and Kindergartners are emerging from the comfort and security of their homes, Oak Grove programs ease them gently and playfully into the world of peers. At Oak Grove, children come to trust their teachers who are caring, supportive, and knowledgeable about this journey.

Learning

Serious respect for the work and play of children is combined with developmentally appropriate expectations of classroom routine and social learning. Children begin to learn how to get along with others – to express themselves in words, to be aware of other people’s feelings, to share, and to solve disputes.

In Oak Grove’s diverse, thoughtful community, we strive for collaboration among teachers, parents, and children that models the values of cooperation and life-long learning. Our founder’s intent was not just the schooling of children but nourishment of the whole family.

Three facets make up the Early Childhood Programs at Oak Grove School. They include a developmental Preschool for 3- to 5-year-olds and Kindergarten for 4- to 6-year-olds, as well as a parent education and support program.

Preschool Program

In Oak Grove’s Preschool Program, an environment is created where learning takes place naturally and intellectual growth flourishes, but is never forced. Through stories, art, nature, indoor and outdoor activities and movement, children are supported as they explore their world and become more independent.

As children become more at ease with separation, they begin to form peer relationships and increasingly become part of a group. Preschool provides challenge and intellectual stimulation within a warm emotional climate. Teachers and children create experiences together that arouse curiosity, inspire discovery, and stretch muscles. Through observing children closely, teachers determine needs, temperament, and readiness for next steps.

There is a special emphasis on social-emotional development in Preschool, based on the values of community and empathy. Children are given the tools and skills needed to participate in cooperative interactions, to resolve conflicts peacefully, to stand up for themselves and others, and to be active, responsible members of a group.

At Oak Grove we are committed to fostering in children the sense of well-being and confidence that enables them to appreciate others and instills real understanding across cultures.

Kindergarten

Kindergarten at Oak Grove is a time when children and their families enter a larger, more diverse community, when children are discovering their autonomy, yet still need supportive adults to help them make sense of the world.

This is a time when the transition between play and learning is still seamless. The Kindergarten program reflects an understanding that children learn through active involvement and play and that children represent their knowledge in a variety of ways. Kindergarten provides children with an opportunity to learn and practice the essential problem-solving and communication skills that they will use throughout their schooling. Through immersion in a participatory, collaborative, and inquiry-based curriculum, students develop a sense of independence and empathy and internalize a feeling of safety.

Parent Support

Our intention is to nurture an affectionate partnership between teachers and parents. To encourage open communication between home and school, parent education and discussion time in parent meetings are offered twice a month.

Preschool – Oak Grove School District

Welcome to Oak Grove PRESCHOOL!

Preschool Enrollment for Fall 2023-2024 will begin in March 2023.

About

Our licensed preschools are preparing children for entry into Transitional Kindergarten/ Kindergarten, beginning as early as two years and eight months old.

We believe in teaching and nurturing the students in all the areas that will make them better prepared for kindergarten including self-regulation, social expression, self-care, and motor skills as well as academics. Recent research has shown that kindergarten teachers want children ready for the social element of school as well as the academics. If students are ready to take care of their personal needs, get along with others, sit in circle, and sometimes work independently, then great academic goals can be achieved.

 Enroll Here

In preparing our students for the academics of kindergarten, we use state adopted curriculum and research-based, culturally responsive instructional strategies.  Our preschool teachers engage in professional development throughout the year and work collaboratively to make data-driven decisions about their students’ needs.

Our days and weeks follow a routine and schedule that the children come to depend on. All days include calendar, circle time, phonics, center-based play and exploration, outside play and socialization, small group academic time and snack.  All children must be potty-trained to attend.

The oak grove near Novorossiysk will remain safe and sound. This was promised by its owner – News of Novorossiysk

“Novorossiysk Rabochiy” has already talked about the new ambiguous situation around the oak grove in Semigorskoye. Novorossiysk social activists do not agree that the grove where old-growth oaks grow has ended up in private hands. In their opinion, in this place it is necessary to create a specially protected territory of regional subordination. According to a letter from social activists, an employee of the Ministry of Natural Resources of the Territory arrived in Novorossiysk to sort out the situation.

Sergey Dulepa (left), head of the environmental monitoring department of the Ministry of Natural Resources of the Territory, is sure that the owner will make a beautiful landscape park in place of the oak grove. Photo by Anatoly Poznyakov.

A visiting commission was formed, which included specialists from the city administration, public ecologists, scientists, and they examined the oak grove.
Public ecologist Tatyana Tribrat voiced the essence of the problem. The lands that previously belonged to the Semigorsky state farm became private, and on their territories there is an oak grove with, presumably, oaks from the Red Book. It would be a shame if the owners destroyed it. And recently, says Tatyana Grigorievna, the owners of the site cleaned the outskirts of the grove from young growth, and they did not take a logging ticket for cutting the growth. But by doing so, they could also destroy the shoots of young oaks, possibly Red Book.

Sergei Fil, the owner’s representative, who arrived at the meeting, said that now the land has the status of rural estates, which gives the owner the right to build a residential building here. And a felling ticket for felling trees with this status of land is not required. By and large, the owner can cut down everything here. But he is not going to do it. In an oak grove, he plans to make a landscape park for family recreation. And in the fields adjacent to the grove, it already produces aromatic herbs.

Gradually the commission approached the oak grove. A biologist from Krasnodar, Valery Shchurov, who was present in the group, counted 58 oaks on its outskirts, aged from 80 to 200 years. In the neighborhood grows the oldest giant oak in the area – according to some sources, 800 years old, which has the status of a natural monument. Some guests saw this handsome man for the first time: at least five adults are needed to hug him. Novorossiysk scientist, member of the Russian Geographical Society Anton Popovich, as a doctor, examined an oak tree, looking for acorns under a branchy crown – in order to accurately determine its type. As a result, the biologist delivered a verdict: we have before us a stalk-flowered oak, listed in the Red Book.

Then the commission moved to the administration of the Natukhaevsky rural district, where each of the members of the commission had the opportunity to speak.
Sergey Dulepa, Head of the Department of Environmental Monitoring of the Ministry of Natural Resources of the Territory, said that private traders should not have taken any logging ticket. Tatyana Tribrat insisted that the oak grove be given a protected status. The representative of the ministry recommended that the owners make an inventory of especially valuable trees, present the concept of the park and also receive a grant from the state for the care of this green zone. The meeting ended with the decision that the owner will prepare a concept for the development of this territory.
