Girls who are from Canada?

org/DiscussionForumPosting”>

That’s what I thought…since we’re already stuck in Canada. Why don’t we get together?
Well, see you, of course… a bit far. But support or something else – maybe someone will come in handy.

I have an urgent question – the purchase of fabric for sewing dance and gymnastic costumes and sequins with stones.
No matter how much I searched on the Internet, I didn’t find anything for a travel guide. It turns out that it is cheaper to buy in America. Another question is how much customs will cost…..

But in Vancouver and Toronto they say that there is enough of such goodness… Maybe someone knows the shops?

And in general it would be interesting to meet and talk!

hello Olga!
My name is Marina. I live in Toronto.
I’ll be glad to talk.
I also have PFAFF. Unfortunately, I’m taking it to the dealer for the second time. Something with the shuttle. I’m very upset of course, it’s so expensive and…
How are you and yours now?

I was not interested in such fabrics here, there was simply no need. Although I have an idea what it was about, I sewed costumes for ballroom dancing when my son was engaged. I can try to make inquiries.

ysha
Thank you for your response!
I am very pleased to meet you!

I don’t want to upset you, but my shuttle has already flown… I foolishly took a car that had been in operation for 6 months (it was $300 cheaper). Now, of course, I regret it…
In general, the shuttle has already been changed for me… from iron to… plastic

In general, I’m satisfied… but of course it’s a shame that I gave 2 times more than its price in Europe and the machine is already . ..
I won’t talk about sad things…

I live in Regina. It’s very different from Toronto. But I like it here after the noisy Moscow…maybe because the child is distracting

On the contrary, I’m immersed in ballroom dancing and looking for a supplier of fabrics.
( I’m starting dancing for children from scratch – those here I am a pioneer in this area). On March 19 we will have the first concert in costumes made by me

So far, everything seems to be news.

Hello girls, I’m from Mississauga. I really want to communicate! If any of you live near Toronto and want to meet, I’ll be happy to find time for this.

As for the fabrics, I don’t know exactly what you need, but I think there are a whole bunch of shiny ones in stores. And if you write out from America, then you will have to overpay at customs a lot. After one attempt with materials for Hardanger, when I had to pay one and a half times more than I expected, I confine myself to Canada.

PS. Where is Regina?

olka_sb
Welcome!!!

where is Regina… ?
Saskatchewan. Regina is the capital, so to speak…
Very reminiscent of Krasnodar. Well, in the sense – the capital is in the village

We don’t have so many fabrics for dances (high quality) . … a village in general.
But I really like it here. Nice, clean (relatively) and most importantly -! calmly!

There are not as many people as in Edmonton or Toronto – that’s why there are always enough interesting things on the sales. I spent so much the first time. And now, when there is nowhere to put everything, I decided not to go shopping at all. And so everything…

in order to earn at least something sometimes (besides the main Part Time Job) and at the same time it’s nice to realize that I can create it with my own hands – I began to sew from stretchy fabrics. There are a lot of clubs here and everyone needs beautiful costumes for a performance. There are not many seamstresses here. So I started sewing. my latest work can be seen here
http://www.Olga.saskgs.com

I saw a store in Edmonton – fabric prices – Dying not to get up for 40-50 bucks per meter of stretch. I have already found
Crystals (where to order in Canada). But with stretching beautiful fabrics – tension. I would like to find something in Canada to order from them, but so far all contacts via email are only with America or Korea. But at customs, you have to give somewhere 25% + services of these brokers !!!

Girls if there are addresses in Canada (wholesale stores) – please share. I’ll do something for you too!

OLGA!
I live in Vancouver. I’m glad that you offer to communicate with “Canadians”, I don’t know Wholesale stores yet, but now I’ll be targeted. Tell us what you mean by the term “stretch fabrics”. Is it lycra fabric?

sweetheart

Yes, these are fabrics with lycra and not those that are of poor quality and with women’s colors, but bright, juicy fabrics. Now I am very interested in lycra with a hologram and stretchy velor. I found rich-colored velor in Italy. Of course, the prices are laughter (relative), but everything doesn’t work with holograms. I’m trying to find where you can buy 5-10 meters at a discount.
Those do not want to sew and kill time on a copy of consumer goods that hangs in stores.

So I’m looking for stores or wholesalers in Canada.

Greetings from Toronto.
Olya, I’ll look for bookmarks – somewhere there were links to a couple of Canadian stores. But the stores are not wholesale, it seems.

Olga Canada

Now I’m very interested in lycra with a hologram and stretchy velor. I found rich-colored velor in Italy. Of course, the prices are laughter (relative), but everything doesn’t work with holograms.

How much is laughter?
And then often on sites (American and Canadian, anyway) prices are set per yard. Direct headache. 😡

Olga well done!
Stunning costumes. And, of course, if you sew professionally, you need connections with suppliers. Simple stores are no longer suitable.

As for Regina and Regina… I didn’t recognize the English word in Russian spelling, I have no experience. And in general, I know Canada very poorly, although I often use the Canadian map for presentations.

Olga! Just in case (in the sense you already know) this advice: in Wall mart you need to often go to the fabric department. There, measured cuts are sold at 1.98 per meter (not a yard!) I scored such beauty! (for example, black panne velvet or thin champagne-colored silk with an appliqué effect, as if from a fabric of the same color but denser) I remember that there were fabrics of your direction. And good luck to you! You are such a craftswoman. The costumes are great.

CheshireCat

Well, if in Edmonton such a fabric (velor 4 way stretch) is more than 40, then from Italy it will cost somewhere around 25. Of course, I didn’t try taking into account customs (I ordered it directly in small cuts and I received a parcel as from a private person – private (those without customs fees).
There were also thin elastic ones (not shiny lycra, but more tender and OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO many colors… really thin. It must be sewn on a lining. It turned out to be about 20. But there are a lot of colors !!! – it was profitable to buy from them And then they have a colored grid – a lot of colors. Also somewhere around 18. There are a lot of flowers! And you can order 1 meter.

… I climbed for clarification and I can’t find the address in my computer!!
Really husband erased………. But somewhere else I wrote down the address in the papers.0009

olka_sb
Canadians pronounce Regina. …they say it is associated with you…..
Here, of course, a village is a village. But for example, everything suits me so far – there is a job, there are acquaintances, the child has friends here and daddy made a cozy nest for us
And what else do you need in life?

Of course, I want something of my own – but judging by how much real estate there is for lease and for sale, it seems that you need to think very carefully before opening a business! No one will go into a new business . .. this is not Vancouver or Toronto – where there are a lot of people and someone will come. It’s different here…

GIRLS thanks for the compliment.
I’m still a beginner in terms of customer relations and of course… VERY DIFFICULT WITH THEM. I am a person who is ready to do everything for a client – and this is not a very good trait, because it is at the expense of my time or health …
Fortunately, my husband gives useful advice as a specialist in the field of working with clients. He says you can’t work so hard for a penny … And I justify myself that you just need to be more professional and learn how to estimate how many hours a thing will take – in order to immediately know the price and not kill the client.
And sometimes you think… it would be better not to take on something than to work like a horse for a penny… (Those without customer service).

Wallmart – yes, I use it all the time (for sewing personal belongings). But there are no such tissues. They are generally not in demand here – otherwise they would have opened businesses long ago.
All seamstresses sew at home and offer fabrics at competitions. And keeping a permanent business in this area is completely unprofitable.

Today I had a concert (ballroom dancing). Thank God everything worked out. But now I have come to the conclusion that you need to be able to organize people and trust them, instead of taking everything on yourself!). Oh, learn from this! Yes, but where??

Olga, found 2 stores in Canada:
It might come in handy. ..

1. Stretch lycras –
http://www.peakfabrics.com/stretchLycras.htm

2. And this is a link to a store in Toronto – there a lot of different things:
http://www.designerfabrics.to

Well, how would you see the Italian website? Not found?
Did you throw away all the packaging from the store and along with the accompanying?

And the concert for whom and where and in what composition?

CheshireCat
Thank you. I looked there.

Not yet.
As soon as there is information (or they will send a message), I will let you know.

Shouldn’t we start a topic about business (taking into account local folklore). This topic will be different from what is already there (brainstorming) because there is still a Russian flavor … And Canadians are not receptive to Russian “rites” …

I mean that one could give advice and maybe even support to each other (not in terms of financial), but in terms of management advice, taxes and in general the organization of the business.

With great pleasure I would take part in the discussion of topics.
I now have to think about how to promote my dancing to the level of perception of ballroom dancing by Canadians and seeking help and support from local authorities. Well, at the same time organize your own small business (so as not to depend on anyone). And now I’m working on 3 jobs (of a cultural plan) and I often overlap them one on another and it remains to choose … but as a result, you still depend on the owner – then you don’t attach a price to this ….

And if it’s your own, it’s better to go headlong into one thing and without any fundraising programs for someone.

I already have one sad experience – which I want to share. Of course, this does not apply to all parts of Canada … but it can still come in handy.
In general, I printed a bunch of ads with !!!photos of beautiful children from the Internet and my former students. I hung them where I could (well, maybe 50 pieces for sure). I received a call from only one client… and that was most likely out of interest…
Conclusion – Canadians on poles do not perceive announcements. They need to be given either business cards or large prints in a newspaper or something else – but so that there are 2-3 times more advertising costs.
But this applies to native Canadians (in Russia, crowds came to me from 10 advertisements on poles … although ballroom dancing for children is popular in Russia, but here … they don’t know what it is at all).

Maybe someone has suggestions on how it is possible to promote and develop this business? But it is natural for me to be the hostess … I certainly don’t need those competitors for the first 3 years.

Ocean Friendly Restaurant Act aims to save the sea

It all starts with one straw.

Twenty South Sound restaurants are committed to protecting the ocean and its creatures from plastic pollution, overfishing and the effects of climate change, and the number is growing with the Ocean Friendly Restaurants campaign gaining momentum around Puget Sound.

The campaign aims to raise awareness of issues that threaten the health of both the wider ocean and our own Puget Sound and is a partnership between the Surfrider Foundation and the Point Defiance Zoo and Aquarium through Metro Parks Tacoma.

“Our ocean is a treasure trove of incredible animals and vital to our survival,” said Andrea Smith, president of the Metro Parks Tacoma Board of Commissioners. “We must unite to protect him.”

Every year, about 9 million tons of plastic is washed into the ocean from streets, drains, recycling stations and landfills. People are producing more and more plastic, and it stays in the ocean for a long time, never breaking down. Instead, most of it breaks down into ever smaller pieces known as microplastics. They accumulate toxins and enter the body of marine animals and birds, eventually killing them or continuing the food chain.

Fish, sharks and other marine life are also threatened by overfishing, depleting their populations to dangerous levels. Ocean warming and acidification associated with climate change are also damaging ecosystems.

This is a big problem, but the Ocean Friendly Restaurant campaign aims to solve it individually. By joining, restaurants are committing to a series of ocean-friendly actions, such as eliminating Styrofoam and plastic bags, using reusable plates and silverware, offering alternatives to plastic straws, seeking sustainable seafood, and reducing energy consumption.

“We are committed to minimizing the waste that ends up in valuable marine waters while saving businesses money and supporting sustainable operations,” said Bryce Boland, Surfrider’s area manager for Washington. The national non-profit organization is dedicated to protecting ocean waters and beaches and spearheaded the Ocean Friendly Restaurant campaign, which now involves hundreds of restaurants across the country.

Ocean friendly local restaurants include:

  • Cosmonaut Coffee
  • Devil’s Reef
  • Social bar and grill
  • Bistro Bair
  • Oscar’s Dirty Shed
  • Duke’s Chowder
  • Engine Room No. 9
  • Millville Pizza
  • Peaks and pints
  • Primo Grill
  • Swiss restaurant and pub
  • Table 47
  • Zodiac Dinner Club
  • Broken spoke
  • Camp Bar
  • Melting Pot
  • Fern Room,
  • Honey and matriarch Alma mater.
  • Long Beach Marinated Fish is also a member of

“Duke’s has been buying organic seafood for decades,” said owner Duke Moscrip. “And we have already switched to paper straws and compostable takeout containers. It is imperative that every restaurant and restaurant patron understands that the ocean is a valuable resource that needs to be conserved.”

Alma Mater in Tacoma, home to Honey and Matriarch restaurants, was the newest restaurant to join.

“We believe in sustainable and sustainable practices wherever possible,” said Saide Heminger, hospitality and facilities coordinator. “We joined the Ocean Friendly Restaurant program to educate our customers that we care about the environment and that we and our patrons are responsible for the most environmentally friendly practices we can.”

“This is a great way to raise awareness about ocean health among people that can really make a difference,” said Karen Povey, Conservation Manager at Point Defiance Zoo and Aquarium. “Every time you eat out, you can choose an ocean-friendly restaurant that will help protect our ocean and its amazing creatures.

Joining the program is easy, Povey says. Some businesses may already be compliant, while others may be compliant right away with some simple changes, such as eliminating plastic straws and Styrofoam.

Participating restaurants agree:

  • Avoid using Styrofoam packaging, also known as Styrofoam.
  • Recycle.
  • Limit on-site utensils to reusable items and only provide takeaway utensils upon request.
  • Do not place takeout orders in plastic bags.
  • Provide straws on request only.

In addition, they undertake to comply with at least two of the following five conservation measures:

  • Do not sell drinks in plastic bottles.
  • Offer discounts to customers who bring their own cups or bags.
  • Serve vegetarian and vegan meals regularly; We offer only seafood obtained from environmentally friendly sources.
  • Implement water conservation activities.
  • Implement efforts to improve energy efficiency.
