    History

    Bowie Original High School

    James Bowie High School Original Campus

    Bowie Original High School opened at 1973 year. [1] Sam Houston High School Relief. Bowie, AISD’s fourth high school, was originally located three blocks west and two blocks south of Sam Houston. Cathy Brown of The Dallas Morning News wrote “Bowie, in his first incarnation of bargain.n, [ sic ] is too close together to effectively serve the city’s population. So, community, beware.” [3] Many students from the Houston area wanted to move to Bowie because it was newer and the transfer process made it easier for them. [3]

    Martin High School opened in 1982, [3] and the growth pattern in south Arlington has changed, so the district has decided to close the original Bowie. The original building is now Workman High School. [1]

        An unidentified gunman opened fire at Timberview High School in Arlington, Texas, NBC DFW reports, citing police.

        “Arlington Police are investigating a high school shooting. The school is now closed. Students and teachers are locked in classrooms. Visitors to the educational institution are not allowed,” the police said.

        The TV channel, without specifying the source of the information, also notes that “many people” were injured. According to a FoxNews source in the police, three people were injured. They were taken to the hospital. There is no information about the dead. Many police cars arrived at the school.

        In mid-September, an unidentified gunman opened fire at a school in Newport News, Virginia, injuring two people. According to the local police department, the incident occurred at Heritage High School, students were evacuated. A 17-year-old girl and a young man were injured, they were hospitalized.

        A spokeswoman for the Mansfield School District told the FoxNews News Service that the school is on lockdown, students and teachers have closed classrooms, and the entrance to the school has been blocked.

        Apparently, this turned out to be true – according to new reports, one of the participants in the fight took out a gun and opened fire, injuring four fellow practitioners. Three of them required hospitalization, the gunman himself ran away from the school, and is currently being searched.

        Before the 20th century

        • 1542 – Spanish explorers camp in the Indian village of Guasco in what is now Dotty Lynn Pkwy. [1]
        • 1838 – Robert Sloane and Nathaniel T. Journey led an expedition to present-day Euless and Arlington in what has been recorded as one of the first Anglo-American attempts to open the area to settlement. [2] [3]

          • A Methodist group meets at Schultz’s lumberyard on Mesquite and Front Streets and organizes the first church meeting in the original Arlington township. [14]
