Students read and write across a variety of genres in middle school. In literature seminar, students use higher-level critical thinking skills to track theme development, draw conclusions, and make inferences. Teachers facilitate thoughtful discussions around texts and provide students an opportunity to express opinions, ideas, and critiques. In writing, students plan, write, and edit stories, essays, poems, and research papers. With a solid foundation in grammar and usage, students also begin to develop their own unique voice and style. Our teachers model every part of the writing process to set students up for success with their work.
Math
6-8 Curriculum
Math
In middle school students are invited to engage with mathematics through a problem-based curriculum. Critical thinking skills are developed as students analyze, process, discuss and solve real world and mathematical problems. Students will build a strong foundation in both algebraic thinking and data science and expand their number sense and geometric understanding. As these skills evolve, students learn to apply a variety of strategies, make connections across concepts, and most importantly learn that they are a mathematician.
Science
6-8 Curriculum
Science
Leveraging the knowledge they developed in earlier grades, students dive into greater complexity in life science, physical science, earth and space science, and science practices. Students will not just learn science concepts, but they will explore and apply the science concepts to real-life situations to ensure that they are set up for success for a rigorous high school science curriculum.
Social Studies
6-8 Curriculum
Social Studies
At this age, your child’s ability to understand their place in society is really beginning to expand. They’re able to think more critically about who they want to become in the future. That’s why it’s important that they expand their understanding of the world through the study of civics, world regions, history, government and economics. They begin to analyze complex issues that affect their communities and the world. As they’re more immersed in the study of American history, they gain a greater understanding of their responsibilities as citizens within the values of American democracy.

We’re More than Academics
Strong hearts and minds impact the world in amazing ways. Virtues such as respect, perseverance, compassion, and courage are essential to what kids need to succeed and an essential part of what we teach. We make them part of every school day. This helps students learn the importance of making good decisions and doing the right thing in life. Moral Focus is so integrated into everything we do:
- We created a curriculum specifically around Moral Focus.
- We celebrate a “virtue of the month” every month.
- Our students create a class contract where students agree how to treat their teacher and each other.
- Students are recognized and celebrated for how they live out Moral Focus every day.

History
005 .You can help by adding to this. (April 2017) |
Established in the summer of 2004 and home to students who previously attended Greensboro High School and Chattahohoochee High School. [1] A group of students from these two high schools chose a mascot, school name, and school colors. [5] They deliberately decided not to use the colors and mascots of the two previous schools to give West Gadsden a new look. The new school was to have more courses than the previous Chattahoochee school. [6]
It was opened by 487 students. [6] In his first year, he taught at the former Greensboro High School, [4] on Route 559 Greensboro. [7] [8] In the first year, the school had four portable classes. [6] Its permanent campus, which at the time was to be built next to the Greensboro Elementary School building, [6] was scheduled to open in 2005. [4] By 2007 the school had moved to its current location, [5] at 200 Providence Road. The former campus is now Greensboro Elementary School. [9]
In 2017, about 482 students studied there. [1] West Gadsden High was 76% occupied as of March 2017. [3] On Tuesday, April 4, 2017, the school board was due to vote on whether to merge East Gadsden High School and West Gadsden High School into one high school. [10] The Board voted 3:2 in favor of consolidation. [11] The school will be renamed West Gadsden Middle School as only high school grades remain. As part of the consolidation, grades 4-5 will move from local elementary schools to West Gadsden High School. In March 2017, several members of the West Gadsden High community spoke out against the plans for amalgamation. [3]
Former headmaster of West Gadsden School, Juliette Jackson, has become head of the merged school. Gadsden County High School. [12]
Athletics
The first athletic director and head coach of the American Football West Gadsden team was Robert Jackson, who served in that capacity at Greensboro prior to the founding of West Gadsden. [4]
Brian Miller of Tallahassee Democrat stated that the high school merger of the 2000s damaged school sports spirit in the district as former school identities were discarded. [13] In October 2004, Jackson stated, “We didn’t understand what we were all doing. We don’t have taste yet. We are not chocolate, we are not vanilla, we are not strawberry. We haven’t played together for a long time. remains to be seen, but we will. ” 9 Miller, Brian (01/30/2017). “Striplin goes from West Gadsden to the East, schools will probably merge.” Tallahassee Democrat . Retrieved 2017-04-05.
