CDL Training | Village of Lakewood Illinois

    • How long is CDL in Illinois?

Depending on your CDL program, your training may take a couple of weeks or more. Our training program is designed to prepare you for the exam and to give you the skills to drive safely on the open road. Our thorough training will help you get a job after passing the exam!

    • There is currently a shortage of CDL drivers in the labor market. Worst since the late 90s. This has led to a significant increase in the wages of commercial drivers. According to local recruitment agencies, a truck driver salary in Chicago is between $53,000 and $73,000 per year.

    • How do I get a commercial driver’s license?

The first step to obtaining a commercial driver’s license is to verify ELDT-compliant truck driving schools. Alpha Truck Driving School is certified for entry level driver training. Then obtain a Commercial Learner’s Permit (CDL) to begin your program of study.

When choosing a CDL training school, be aware that some transportation companies offer paid CDL training, but this includes a contract with that company, which means less freedom to work the way you would like. Other transportation companies offer tuition compensation, so be aware that you have options!

    • How is the CDL training?

Alpha Truck Driving School will prepare you for the classroom-based written exam. Once you receive a CDL student permit, your training will focus on learning the basics of commercial trailer inspection, proper trip planning techniques, and DOT safety rules.

Upon satisfactory completion, the student will continue on to our driving range. Our curriculum consists of 20 hours of driving instruction on local streets and interstate roads, 20 hours of skill development, and 20 hours of observation coaching.

    • How old do you have to be to get a CDL?

Driver must be at least 18 years of age to drive a commercial vehicle within state lines, operator must be at least 21 years of age to operate a commercial vehicle out of state. The driver must also have a valid driver’s license. You must also be 21 years of age to transport hazardous materials or passengers.

    • Can I get a job at CDL with a criminal record?

A criminal record does not make you eligible for a CDL job. Please call our friendly staff at (630) 628-1111 for more information.

    • What is a CDL A license?

Class A CDL is a commercial driver’s license that allows you to drive any combination vehicle up to £26,000. A road train is a vehicle that has a tractor and a trailer or trailers (the driver must have the appropriate permits). Class A CDL is the highest driving license category and allows the holder to drive smaller vehicles (Class B or Class C). No matter which engineering degree you choose to work with, CDL will give you the opportunity to advance your career!

    • Permits are required to carry certain types of goods or to operate a combined vehicle with more than one trailer. In order to receive confirmation of your CDL license, you must pass a series of tests, mostly written. Passenger confirmation also requires a road test – bus driving. Hazardous materials approval (Hazmat) requires prior verification.

    Biography

Eric David Harris was born April 9, 1981 in Wichita, Kansas to Wayne Nelson Harris and Katherine Ann Poole. He had a three-year older brother, Kevin. His father was a US Air Force transport pilot [1] , and his mother was a housewife. Because of Wayne’s profession, the Harrises moved frequently. The family lived in Platsburg, New York until July 1993, when they moved to Littleton, Colorado when Wayne Harris retired due to staff cuts [1] .

Here, for the first three years, the Harrises lived in rented premises. Wayne then took a job at the Englewood Aviation Safety Services Corporation, and Katherine began working as a catering provider. Eric’s older brother Kevin went to the University of Colorado at Boulder, and Eric himself went to Ken Caryl High School, where he met Dylan Klebold in the seventh or eighth grade. In 1996, the Harrises finally bought a $180,000 house south of Columbine High School, which Eric had started attending the year before. Not far from the Harrises lived Brooks Brown, whom Eric met on the school bus, and who was friends with Dylan Klebold from the first grade. 0042 [1] .

Dylan Bennet Klebold was born September 11, 1981 in Lakewood, Colorado to Thomas Ernst Klebold and Susan Francis Yassenoff. He had a four-year older brother, Byron Jacob [2] [3] . Like Byron, Dylan was named after a famous poet (Byron was named after the English Romantic poet George Byron, and in Dylan’s case it was the Welsh poet Dylan Thomas). Dylan’s father was a real estate geophysicist, and his mother worked in Colorado with the disabled. Both attended the Lutheran Church, and Dylan, along with Byron, were confirmed in accordance with the Lutheran tradition [2] . At home, the family observed some rituals in keeping with Susan’s Jewish heritage, whose grandfather, Leo Yassenoff, was a builder and noted philanthropist (he built a Jewish cultural and social space in Columbus, Ohio, where Thomas and Susan were from) [2] . Thomas Klebold’s parents died early and he was raised by a brother who was 18 years his senior.

In 1990, the Klebolds settled in Deer Creek Canyon south of Lakewood, where Dylan attended Normandie Elementary School from first through second grade and then moved to Governor’s Ranch Elementary School, where he was a member of CHIPS ( Challenging High Intellectual Potential Students – a group of highly gifted and capable students) [2] . Somewhere during this period, he met Brooks Brown. Later, during the investigation, his parents recalled that Dylan felt somewhat overwhelmed at Governor’s Ranch, and therefore they believe that the transition to Ken Caryl High School (where Dylan met Eric Harris) proved to be quite difficult for Dylan , as he was quiet and shy and therefore failed to settle down in the new team. But since the transition from elementary to high school is difficult for most American teenagers, Thomas and Susan didn’t focus on it much. All friends and acquaintances of the Klebold family have always described Dylan only in positive terms: a quiet loner, a shy guy with a good sense of humor. In scenes in the homemade documentary showing the youths plotting their alleged attacks, Klebold is seen constantly cutting off his lines due to the fact that he cannot help laughing. His parents recalled that Dylan never showed any signs of aggression around them.

In 1995, Dylan, Eric, Brooks, and their fourth friend Nathan Dyckman (whom Eric met in Spanish class) went to Columbine High School, which had recently undergone a fifteen million dollar renovation, and the guys became the first ninth graders who saw the new finish of the school, including the renovated cafeteria [2] .

    Old school

At Columbine, Klebold was active in the school theater as lighting and sound engineer, and was also an assistant in the computer lab, where he helped maintain the school’s server.

According to early investigative reports, Harris and Klebold were not particularly popular at Columbine and were bullied quite often. Ultimately, they themselves began to intimidate other students – from their diaries it is known that these were elementary school students and those who were suspected of being gay [4] . According to some accounts, Harris and Klebold were members of a school group that called itself the “Trenchcoat Mafia”, although they had no specific connection to the group, and in a group photo referring to the group in the Columbine Yearbook for 1998 not captured [5] . However, Harris’s father on April 20, 1999, on 9-1-1 calls, mentioned that his son was indeed a member of what they call the “Trenchcoat Mafia” [6] , but in fact their association with the group was generally superficial.

Shortly after they became friends, Harris and Klebold connected their personal computers to the same network and played many games over the network. Harris created a series of levels for the game Doom, which later became known as the Harris levels. On the Internet, Harris used the nickname “REB” (short for “Rebel” (Eng. Rebel)) and other aliases, including Rebldomakr, Rebdoomer and Rebdomine [1] . Klebold also used nicknames such as VoDKa and VoDkA (where the letters DK were initials). Harris had various websites where he created homemade Doom and Duke Nukem 3D levels that could be played online. Gradually, Harris’ open threats to the people of his network environment and the world in general appeared on these sites. When Klebold and Harris began experimenting with pipe bombs, they began posting the results of the bombings on these websites.

Three days before the shooting on Saturday, April 17, Klebold attended an evening school ball where his date was their classmate Robin Anderson (whom Dylan had met several years earlier at a Christmas party), but she was not present with him as his girlfriend, but as his friend [2] . Anderson later bragged to a guy she knew: “ I talked my friend Dylan, who hates dancing, sportsmen and has never had a date, let alone a girl, to come with me! Either I’m really pretty, or just very persistent! » [2] Nathan Dyckman later recalled that Dylan behaved more than normal that evening, and even made good plans for his future. In particular, he said that he was going to go to college in Arizona (March 25, the Klebolds went there to see Dylan’s room in the university hostel [2] ). His acquaintances recalled that he tried to invite several girls, but all rejected his invitation. Ultimately, he planned to spend this time with Susan DeWitt. She came to his house, where they watched a movie, after which he invited her to an after-prom party, but she also refused and went to her house, and Harris met his friends at the party alone. It is also known about his relationship with girls that in his first year at Columbine, he met Tiffany Typer in a German class and on the very first day of his acquaintance he volunteered to walk her home. It was their only meeting, and the next time she refused to go with him, he acted out a fake suicide, spilling fake blood around him. Later in her yearbook, he writes in German Ich bin Gott (Russian I am God) [1] .

In their first year at Columbine, the boys started working at Blackjack Pizza, the place where their colleague Philippe Durant would later introduce them to Mark Maines, from whom they would buy some of the guns used in the gunfight. Working with them was Eric’s friend Chris Morris, who was arrested after the gunfight for suspected complicity but later acquitted [1] .

Harris was a fan of bands such as Rammstein, KMFDM, Orbital and The Prodigy [7] [8] . Shortly after the shootout, KMFDM published an article on their website condemning Harris and Klebold’s violence and denying that their music had anything to do with this [9] .

    terrorist attack

    First encounters with the law

In March 1998, Jefferson County Sheriff Michael Gwerra accessed Harris’ website at the request of Brooks Brown’s parents and found Eric’s numerous threats against Brooks. Guerra wrote an affidavit for the issuance of a search warrant, but the deposition was never recorded. This information was not shown to the public until September 2001, although the police knew about it all this time.

Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold’s first reported legal troubles date back to January 30, 1998, when they were arrested for stealing property from a truck parked on the outskirts of Littleton, Colorado. At the trial, the young men pleaded guilty, and they were sent to special courses designed to prevent crimes among young people. At the same time, Harris began to visit a psychologist. The boys were later released from a group of drug-addicted teenagers despite Dylan’s history of alcohol and his urine tests, and both were soon released for good behavior, although both were still under observation. Harris wrote a formal letter to the truck driver with insincere apologies and feigned sympathy, and at the same time wrote a boastful entry about it in his personal diary. But otherwise, they were so diligent that their probation officer released them months ahead of schedule (Harris and Klebold would later taunt this fact in their farewell video). The characterization given to Harris at the time was that he was “a very intelligent man who will probably do well in life” while Klebold was said to be an intellectual who “must understand that hard work is part of the plan.” to fulfill a dream.”

    Hitmen

Shortly before the attack, Eric and Dylan filmed a video for a school project, where they themselves appeared as hitmen shooting drug addicted students with fake weapons. Their project’s creative writing described sheer violence. On January 17, 1999, Eric wrote a story based on the game Doom, regarding which his teacher said: “Your unique approach and your terrible handwriting is a good thing to lift your spirits” [10] .

On the day of the shooting, their classmate Brooks Brown met Harris at his car at the beginning of his lunch break. They only recently reconciled after Eric threw an ice rock at Brooks’ car and hit the windshield. Brown was surprised that Harris got out of the car with a gym bag, because he was out all morning and missed important tests. But Harris’ reaction to Brown’s bewilderment was indifferent. Eric told him, “Brooks, I like you now. Get out of here. Go home” [11] . A few minutes later, students leaving school for lunch saw Brooks on South Pierce Street near their home. Having moved away from the school for some distance, he heard shots and called the police from his neighbor’s cell phone.

    Acquisition of weapons

Since Harris and Klebold were underage at the time, Dylan’s girlfriend Robin Anderson, who was already eighteen years old, purchased two shotguns and a Hi-Point carbine for them. Subsequently, Anderson was not charged for her participation in this case, because she did not violate any laws by her actions, and she herself actively cooperated with the investigation. After receiving the Stevens 311D, Klebold sawed off its barrel, shortening it to a length of approximately 23 inches (≈ 58 cm), which was already considered a felony under the National Firearms Act. Harris, on the other hand, shortened the barrel of his shotgun to approximately 26 inches (≈ 66 cm) [13] .

Eric Harris (left) and Dylan Klebold in the cafeteria after one of their bombs went off. Security camera footage

The history of their acquisition of the Intratec TEC-DC9 semi-automatic pistol seems to be quite long. It is known that the gun manufacturer first sold it to Miami-based Navegar Incorporated, from where it was later sold to Zadner Sporting Goods in Baldwin, Illinois in 1994. It then made its way to Fronton, Colorado, to firearms dealer Larry Russell, who, in violation of federal law, did not keep any records or records of gun sales, and therefore it was difficult to say to whom exactly he sold those guns. He only remembered that the customers looked like they were 21 or older. Unlike Philip Durant and Mark Maines, Russell was not brought to trial because he could not identify either Harris with Klebold or Robin Anderson in the photo.

The bombs the teenagers wanted to detonate at the school were crude devices made from canisters of carbon dioxide, galvanized pipes, and metal propane bottles that Harris and Klebold bought for a few hundred dollars at a hardware store the weekend before the attack. The bombs were self-igniting. The morning before the attack, Harris bought several more bottles of propane. The bombs that Eric and Dylan planted in the cafeteria had some sort of timers, but the latter were hastily assembled and ended up not working correctly. It was later determined that if one of the two bombs had detonated properly, the Columbine would then collapse and the death toll would be in the hundreds.

    Effects

Dylan’s body was cremated, with only his parents, brother, and close family friends present. The Harrises made Eric’s funeral completely private and did not want to share information with the media.

    Motivation

In their diaries, Harris and Klebold wrote a great deal about how they would carry out the attack, but much less about the reasons why they wanted to carry it out. The diary, found in Harris’s room, contained details that the guys had planned for the day of April 20 since five in the morning [14] . In the records, the young men often wrote about events such as the Oklahoma City terrorist attack, the Siege of Mount Carmel, and other similar cases. The records of this were for the most part like advertisements for those events, as Harris and Klebold expressed their desire to “surpass” these attacks. They especially focused on what Timothy McVeigh did in Oklahoma City. The guys directly expressed in the diaries the desire to leave a lasting impression of these events to the world through such a type of violence as a terrorist act.

In his diary, Harris wrote about his admiration for what he envisioned as natural selection and how he wished he could put everyone inside a Doom game and make sure the weak died and the strong survived [15] . This is probably why Harris was wearing a white T-shirt on the day of the attack, on which NATURAL SELECTION [4] was written in black. In general, this version is confirmed by the fact that later the investigation came to the conclusion that none of the murdered victims was chosen by Harris or Klebold as a specific object of revenge.

The date of the attack caused a lot of controversy, since, according to the records, the attack was originally planned for Monday, April 19th. The reasons why the killers moved it a day later remained unclear. The only explanation is that on April 19, 1999, Eric persuaded Mark Maines to buy additional Tec rounds for $25. He asked him why he needed them, but Eric just brushed it off and said that he “needed them for tomorrow.” Maines was unable to get these cartridges until the evening, which may be why the date of the attack was moved to Day 9.0042 [16] . There was also a version in the media that the date of the attack was adjusted to the birthday of Adolf Hitler, but people who knew the couple well, such as Robin Anderson, at first said that Harris and Klebold were never obsessed with Nazism or even somehow admired or worshiped Hitler, but in the end, Anderson admitted that the couple clearly had secrets that they did not even tell close friends about [12] .

Harris was about to enlist in the US Marine Corps, but shortly before the shootout, his application was denied because he was taking the antidepressant Luvox, which was part of his court-ordered therapy. It is likely that this could have been at least partly the cause of his aggression, resulting in a terrorist attack, however, as the investigation found, Harris knew nothing about the rejection of the application. It has been suggested that the reason for the rage could also be the discontinuation of Luvox [17] , but an autopsy showed that at the time of death, the amount of Luvox in his body was at a therapeutic level of [18] . Despite the notion that it is the abrupt cessation of an antidepressant that can impair a person’s social functioning, after the tragedy at Columbine School, opponents of modern psychiatry, including Peter Breggin [19] Harris to suppress his aggression, increased his aggressiveness [20] .

    Diaries and research

Harris began writing his diary some time after the Littleton truck incident, in April 1998. At the same time, according to the notes, the plan of the terrorist attack [16] began to be developed. The time of the attack was clearly scheduled: 11:17 am, since, according to Harris, this was the moment in the school cafeteria with the largest number of students.

Eric Harris’s personality profile, which was based on his diary entries and testimonies from loved ones, described his behavior as “ malignant narcissism… (c) pathological narcissism, antisocial features, paranoid characteristics and voluntary aggression » [21] . Meanwhile, such a profile cannot be considered as a true psychiatric diagnosis, because such, as a rule, should be made when communicating face to face with the patient, as well as based on his formal psychological testing and collection of related information about him.

Dylan Klebold’s role in the shootout has been shrouded in mystery for some time. In his diary, Klebold wrote that he and Harris were god-like people and much more advanced than other people. However, Klebold’s secret diary reveals genuine self-hatred and suicidal tendencies. Although both youths had difficulty coping with their anger, it was Klebold who had tantrums so severe that he took problems much more seriously than Harris. It was established that Klebold enjoyed arguing with teachers and bickering with his boss at Blackjack Pizza. According to their video recordings, the arrest on January 9The 8th was very traumatic for them. Somewhere during this period, Klebold wrote a letter to Harris, in which he expressed a desire to arrange revenge as a game with the accompaniment of killing policemen. On the day of the attack, Klebold was wearing a black T-shirt with a red inscription WRATH (Russian anger). This circumstance gave rise to the version that the attack was arranged specifically for the purpose of revenge for the same arrest, and the young men apparently planned to arrange a major shootout with the police in addition to the attack [22] . An entry was found in Klebold’s diary, according to which he believed that “ life wouldn’t be fun without a few deaths,” and that he wished many moments of his past were spent in nerve-wracking twists and turns of murder and bloodshed. He concluded by writing that he would later kill himself in order to “ go to a better place out of the world he hates “.

The official version was that Klebold and Harris were mentally ill by nature, which was the cause of the attack. From this version, another version was formed, according to which all the reasons and motives listed in the diaries were invented in order to create the image of motivated killers [23] .

Although the diaries and amateur videos of Harris and Klebold (The Cellar Tapes) have long been available to the public and the Internet, there are still several videos that the police have not yet released to the public. According to reports, Harris and Klebold are discussing the motives of the attack on these recordings, as well as giving small instructions on how to create pipe bombs. The police do not show these tapes because their content is “a call to the use of weapons” and “practices” that may well develop imitation.

Influence on media and popular culture

Initially it was assumed that Harris and Klebold were, as already mentioned, members of the Trenchcoat Mafia, a small group of Columbine outsiders who wore long black trench coats. Initially, the group was just a small community of gamers who always went out together and started wearing trench coats after one of their members was given a cowboy coat for Christmas. The name “Trenchcoat Mafia” was given to the group by Columbine athletes. Due to the fact that most of the surviving students who saw the couple at the time of the attack indicated that they were wearing raincoats, the myth was born that Harris and Klebold were part of the group. Investigations showed that the guys maintained friendly relations in the group only with Chris Morris, and that most of the primary members of the group had already left the school at the time of the attack. Most of the group members knew the guys at all only because of their acquaintance with Morris, therefore, in the future, none of them were charged on suspicion of complicity. Harris and Klebold bought the raincoats themselves shortly before the attack.

A sociological investigation was conducted among representatives of the subcultures of the High Schools in order to prevent the manifestation of factors that could lead to this kind of situation in other schools. After the attack, some North American high school students attended special seminars that encouraged tolerance and denounced bullying. However, the effectiveness of these seminars as a method of preventing bullying was not high enough, since further investigations showed that this phenomenon was not the only cause of the attack.

The Harris and Klebold incident has become part of American culture. In particular, the famous singer Marilyn Manson released the album Holy Wood in 2000, which contains the song The Nobodies, containing the following lines:

« Some children died the other day / We fed machines and then we prayed / Puked up and down in morbid faith / You should have seen the ratings that day

    Which translates as:

Several children died the next day / We fed the cars and we prayed / We vomited and we were mired in painful faith / You should have seen the TV ratings that day”

Marilyn Manson is not the only performer interested in this case. Rapper Bones released an album in 2014 called TEENWITCH, on the cover he appears in the clothes of Eric and Dylan (a long cloak under which they hid weapons), and often shows empathy for them, for example, in the chorus of the song TheCafeteria, from the point of view of Eric or Dylan:

    We just could’ve been friends,

But you decided to hurt me

    (We could just be friends,

But you decided to hurt me)

After the shooting, most of the media reported that listening to the music of “Marilyn Manson” was one of the factors that provoked the young men to kill, although in fact neither Harris nor Klebold were fans of the performer. Michael Moore’s Bowling for Columbine features an interview about the shootout with Manson himself, where Moore asked the singer what he would say to the children and people of Columbine. Manson replied to this: “I wouldn’t say a word to them. I would listen to what they themselves would have to say. No one would have done that. . Also featured in the film is an acoustic version of the song, this time performed by Kurt Engfehr , while watching security cameras and making emergency calls.

A lot of controversy was caused by the dispute about whether to perpetuate the memory of Harris and Klebold. Some argued that this would glorify them as killers, while others believed that Harris and Klebold were victims themselves. However, Illinois carpenter Greg Zainis made exactly fifteen crosses, which were then installed on Rebel Hill in Clement Park, which is located across the street from Columbine. The news that Harris and Klebold’s crosses were placed alongside the victims’ crosses sparked a wave of public outcry. For all the time that the crosses of the shooters stood there, the inscriptions appeared on them: “Hatred breeds hatred”, “I forgive you”, “Why?” However, not everyone believed Harris and Klebold were murderers. 79Denver resident Gene Carney wrote on Klebold’s cross: “May God have mercy on your soul. I’m sorry we all let you down,” and 29-year-old Melissa McBride wrote on Harris’s cross: “He is still a child of God and love.” The father of the murdered Daniel Rohrboff constantly removed these two crosses, believing that the memory of the killers, no matter what victims they themselves were, should not be immortalized next to those whom they themselves killed. Ultimately, the Harris and Klebold crosses were permanently removed under public pressure.

At first, many officials mistakenly blamed the Klebold and Harris families as the cause of the attack, as it turned out that both of them had no idea what their sons were doing. Nevertheless, the Klebold family received moral and psychological support primarily from the relatives of the victims, confidential meetings with which helped them recover.

    Dylan Klebold’s parents

In October 1999, the Klebold family announced their intention to file a lawsuit against the Jefferson County Police Department. The reason for their decision was that the police had picked up a signal from Brooks Brown’s family when Eric had threatened Brooks on his website, and they hadn’t taken any appropriate action that would likely have prevented dire consequences. Several families of the victims, including the family of Daniel Rohrboff, expressed support for this intention. On April 15, 2000, the Klebolds wrote an open letter in which they expressed grief along with all the families of the victims and thanked those who supported them during this difficult period. They concluded that “the only way to honor all the victims is to try to identify the reasons why this tragedy happened.”

On October 13, 2009, “O, The Oprah Magazine” published a letter from Sue Klebold, Dylan Klebold’s mother, entitled “ I Will Never Know Why “. In it, she says that even before the attack, she noticed that her youngest son had become very quiet and thoughtful, and when she asked him what was wrong with him, he replied that he was just very tired. A little later, Susan started a conversation with him about his leaving for college, since, in her opinion, Dylan looked clearly not ready to part with his family. She told her son that he could go to a local college, to which Dylan replied: “ I definitely want to leave . ” On the morning of April 20, Susan Klebold noticed that Dylan woke up 20 minutes earlier than usual and immediately ran out of the house. “ Bye ” was the last thing he said to her (Susan noticed that his voice was unusually excited), after which he got into the car and drove away. Susan learned about the attack in the afternoon when Thomas called her at work. Thomas himself, in turn, received a phone call from one of Klebold’s friends, from whose confused explanations Thomas basically understood that two young men in long black raincoats had opened fire at school, and that Dylan and Eric were not present at the first lessons that morning. By the time he called his wife, Thomas had searched the entire house, hoping to find Dylan’s raincoat, but he never found it. Thomas and Susan learned about the death of their youngest son only on the evening of April 20, and the next day about the number of his victims. By that point, the Klebold family had been detained by SWAT, who told them to leave the house, as it was suspected that pipe bombs might have been left in the house. For the rest of my life, I will be horrified and reproach myself for what Dylan did ,” Susan wrote in this letter, “ Dylan changed everything I believed in: myself, God, family , in love. … I couldn’t understand Dylan’s involvement in the attack until I linked it to Dylan’s final suicide of .” According to her, when she finally got access to her son’s diaries, she realized that “ Dylan entered the school with the intention of dying there [24] . 13 years later in 2012, in Andrew Solomon’s Far From the Tree: Parents, Children and the Search for Identity , Susan made a shocking confession: when she found out that Dylan might be the terrorist, she started praying that he would kill himself before he killed anyone else [25] .

The Harris family left Littleton in 2005, the Klebolds in April 2014. On April 15, 2000, both families wrote their open letter:

We are still saddened by the suffering that resulted from our son’s actions. We loved our son dearly and search our souls every day for even the slightest reason why he did such a terrible thing. What he did was inexcusable and beyond our understanding. The passage of time should still lessen the pain.

In conclusion, they also thank everyone who supported them during this period.

    lawsuits

In April 2001, over 30 people sued the Harrises, Klebolds, Mark Maines, and Philip Duran for $2,538,000. The Harrises and Klebolds, using their insurances, ended up paying out $1,568,000, the Maines $720,000 and the Durans $250,000. At the same time, both families were ordered to keep $32,000 ready for future claims, Maines $80,000, and Duran $50,000. One family filed a $250 million lawsuit against the Harrises and Klebolds and did not accept settlement terms in 2001.

    video games

The guys created their own levels for games such as Doom, as well as various graphic modifications. One of the features of these levels was a lot of monsters and an endless stream of ammo and weapons. Contrary to early rumors that surfaced immediately after the gunfight, none of these levels resemble Columbine High School.

In his diary, Eric Harris mentioned his and Dylan’s favorite movie, Natural Born Killers, when referring to “Holy April Morning P.O.” PU is an abbreviation for the movie title “ P Born U Strikers”, which they decided to use as the code name for the attack.

Harris and Klebold as modern revolutionaries

Nick Tours attributed a revolutionary motive to the actions of Harris and Klebold. He wrote:

Who would not admit, but to terrorize the American machine in the very place where it exerts its strongest influence, this is truly a revolutionary task. The fact that they are silent about their goals, that they are not even understood, does not deny their existence. Whether you approve or disapprove of their methods, denounce them as malefactors, but dare not dismiss these modern day radicals as nothing less than the latest incarnation of the disillusioned rebels leading the current American Revolution.

Temple University historian David Farber wrote that Turse’s claim

only makes sense in an academic culture in which transgression is by definition political and in which any anger against society can be considered radical.
