AMERICA’S MOST ACCREDITED
We’re so proud!
Nationally only 10% of daycares are accredited – nearly 100% of our learning centers are. That’s a big difference,
and that means KinderCare kids are getting the very best. Here’s why.
SCHOOL-READY
What Learning Looks Like
Our talented early-childhood teachers set kids down the path toward becoming lifelong learners in a positive, safe, and nurturing environment.
Silverdale KinderCare Programs
Infant Programs (6 weeks–1 year)
Leaving your baby in someone else’s care is a big step. Everyone at our
centers—most importantly, our naturally gifted infant teachers—will work with
you to make sure the transition goes smoothly. When you step into our infant
classroom, you’ll see how much we want your infant to feel safe, loved, and
ready to explore their world.
Toddler Programs (1–2 Years)
Everything in our toddler classroom is designed for little explorers. That’s
because a lot is going on at this age. When your child is wandering all over the
place, that means they’re learning and discovering new things every day. We’ll
help them explore their interests (and find new ones!) as they play and learn.
Discovery Preschool Programs (2–3 Years)
This age is filled with so much wonder and curiosity. That’s why we offer a ton
of books and toys and bring artwork down to kids eye level. Children in
discovery preschool also begin to learn how we all work together in a
classroom. Simple math and science, pretend play, and group play help them
get used to a more structured school setting.
Preschool Programs (3–4 Years)
This age is all about expression, when kids really start to form their own ideas
about what they want to play and how they want to create. Every day in our
preschool classroom, your child will explore science experiments, create
artwork, and play pretend—all the skills needed for their big next step:
kindergarten!
Prekindergarten Programs (4–5 Years)
When you walk into one of our pre-K classrooms, you’ll see artwork and
writing displayed around the room. Labels are everywhere to help kids connect
letters with words. You’ll also see pictures on the walls that reflect the families
in our community. Your child will also deepen their knowledge in language,
math, science, Spanish, and social skills.
Participating Child Care Aware Center
KinderCare partners with Child Care Aware® of America to offer fee assistance for
Active Duty military families and flexible support to fit their needs when care at a Child
Development Center on the installation is not available.
Learning Adventures – Enrichment Program
Cooking Academy™ (3 – 12 Years)
In Cooking Academy, kids learn new recipes from cultures around the world and
develop a healthy relationship with food. They’ll whip up everything from Southwest
rainbow lettuce wraps to pumpkin muffins, building their skills in STEM, communication,
and more along the way. And yes—little chefs get to eat their culinary creations!
Music Explorers™ (2 – 4 Years)
KinderCare families are already giving a standing ovation to our newest Learning
Adventures program: Music Explorers! Kids will learn to sing, move, listen, play
instruments, and even create their own tunes. Our original curriculum blends math,
science, social studies, literacy, and mindfulness (think yoga!) for a uniquely KinderCare
way of learning the foundations of music.
Phonics Adventures® (2 – 4 Years)
Learning how to read is a whole lot of fun at KinderCare! We help kids grow to love
books and words (and get ready for kindergarten) in our Phonics Adventures program.
From discovering the basics of vowels to practicing poetry, kids learn all about letters
and sounds in small-group lessons made just for their age group. (Bonus: Kids who
attend our phonics program are more prepared than their peers for school—and we
have the data to prove it. )
Spanish
Spanish Adventures provides young learners with a foundation for later success with
the Spanish language. Music, games, children’s Spanish literature, and other tools give
children multiple opportunities to hear, practice, and see Spanish language to develop
vocabulary and conversation skills. Curriculum includes lessons on greetings, numbers,
colors, animals, family, body parts, and pets, as well as how to engage conversationally
during common scenarios at home, a restaurant, or at the zoo.
STEM Innovators (3-8 Years)
You’ve probably heard a lot about how important STEM education is for your child, but
what does that really mean? Our STEM Innovators program takes kids’ natural ability to
make sense of the world and applies it to robotics, chemistry, coding, geology, and
more. While your child experiments, they’ll discover how to use technology to do
amazing things!
Our Teachers
We’re the only company in early childhood education to select teachers based on natural talent. Being a great educator isn’t enough though.
KinderCare teachers are also amazing listeners, nurturers, boo-boo fixers, and smile-makers. Put more simply,
we love our teachers and your child will, too.
Meet just a few of our amazing KinderCare teachers!
A KINDERCARE TEACHER WITH
An Artist’s Heart
“My classroom is full of art!” says Mary Annthipie-Bane, an award-winning early childhood educator at KinderCare. Art and creative expression, she says, help children discover who they really are.
We put our best-in-class teachers in a best-in-class workplace. We’re so proud to have been named one of Gallup’s 37 winners of the Great Workplace Award.
When you put great teachers in an engaging center, your children will experience
an amazing place to learn and grow.
Family Stories
Don’t take our word for it. Hear what our families have to say about our amazing center!
-
Our daughter, Addison has been at the Silverdale KinderCare Learning Center full-time since she was three-months-old. She is almost two-years-old now, and we have always been extremely happy with KinderCare! The infant room was always so warm and friendly for her to grow in, and now that she is in the toddler room, it has been truly amazing to watch her grow. Every day brings a new adventure and stories about what great new things she has learned!
One of the unique and fun opportunities is the music class. Addison attends music class once per week. She attends the music class because she has loved music since she was born as well as it gives her a chance to explore and grow with her friends. She truly has really made friends with her classmates!
Furthermore, the curriculum is tailored to each age group’s needs and helps them to develop while having fun learning colors, shapes and the alphabet! Addison will have no problem going to school and adjusting to new experiences as she grows because KinderCare is building a great learning base for her and every child they are entrusted with at the center.
Overall, I truly appreciate every one of the teachers there and it means the world to me that I never have to worry about her while I am at work during the day.April – KinderCare Parent

Why choose our Silverdale Daycare Centre?
Providing safe, loving care and learning since 2000, our early childhood centre is designed to care for your child from infancy until they are ready for primary school. Situated in the heart of the beautiful Hibiscus Coast and close to several primary schools, our childcare centre is a ‘home-away-from-home’ for tamariki, families and whānau. It is a place where your child can learn, grow and have fun throughout their preschool years.
Our devoted Kindercare Silverdale team make it easy, by continuously cultivating a culture of kindness, compassion and love, where your child is cared for alongside children of a similar age and stage of development. Our indoor and outdoor environments are intentionally planned to provide nurturing care, creative learning and opportunities for your child to socialise.
Because food and nutrition are such an important part of your child’s healthy growth and development, we offer a Nourished Beginnings menu – which is based on serving ‘whole foods’. Our menu is designed to meet the specific requirements of paediatric nutrition. Your child will enjoy delicious meals that are low in salt, sugar, unhealthy fats and processed ingredients.

Kiwi Room (Babies Room)
When it comes to your precious baby, we believe in providing heart-centred warm, nurturing care and learning in our safe, loving babies room. Here, we work with you as much as possible, to integrate your little one’s home routine into our care, ensuring we’re there for your pēpi respectful, compassionate moments into every day. This enables your baby to feel secure and settled, so they are able to explore our sensory-rich environment, and experience learning and joy as a natural part of each day.
Tūī Room (Toddlers Room)
We understand your amazing toddler is trying to make sense of who they are, and find their place in the world. And we’re here to guide them, each step of the way. At this stage of development, your little one is an active learner – and our indoor and outdoor play areas are designed to encourage and appreciate just that. So your toddler will love all of the opportunities they’ll have to explore, be curious and experience a sense of wonder, while having heaps of fun and laughter. It’s an exciting, ever-changing journey, and you’ll have the assurance that we’re here to support your family and whānau, too.
Pūkeko Room (Preschool Room)
Your preschooler will love this room which is full of creativity, language, and discovery. We have created a space for your child to explore innovative ideas, and provide rich opportunities for them to communicate, and test out their theories about the wider world. Our preschool room is a place where your capable child will be encouraged to become a creative thinker, learn through playing with interesting resources, and experience the freedom to work both independently, and as part of a bigger group.
Takahē Room (Preschool and Transition to School Room)
Moving on to primary school is a big step for your little one. But with the right preparation, your child will benefit from a smoother transition to Kura. We understand that self-esteem confidence, making friends and working with others are important not just in a formal learning setting, they are life skills. So we, place a strong focus on developing your preschool child’s social and emotional competence and encouraging them to set their own challenges. Your preschooler will also build their independence skills through opportunities to take ownership of their own space and guide their own learning. And our loving Kaiako will be there to guide, support and encourage curiosity, as your child gains knowledge, develops their strengths and abilities, and of course, has fun.
Our world of outdoor play
Our intentionally designed outdoor spaces encourage tamariki to play, explore, make discoveries and enjoy fun-filled days with friends – as well as keep active. The opportunity and ability to move is critical for your child’s intellectual, physical and social development and growth – so some time outside each day happens whenever possible.
Sports4Tots
We incorporate active movement into your child’s day, at each stage of their development, because we recognise that it is critical for brain development. To further support this, at our centre we offer Sports4Tots – a parent paid activity. If you choose to enrol your child for this, they will participate in a weekly fun-filled session at our Silverdale Childcare centre, during school term times.
As Sports4Tots is for preschool-age children, your little one will need to be between 2 and 5 years old. We know they’ll love learning fundamental sports skills, coordination, balance, and the value of play, all in a positive team environment. For more information, go to: sports4tots.co.nz

You’re invited…
When visiting a childcare centre, ‘gut feel’ is very important. As a parent, we encourage you to look for a centre in which you feel comfortable, where your personal values are aligned with the centre’s values, where you know your child and your family and whānau will be loved and respected and where you believe your aspirations for your child will be met.
That’s why we strongly encourage your family to come and personally visit our centre. Every family and every child is unique, so we will tailor visits, start dates, and enrolment in more detail, to do our best to meet your needs. We’d love to meet you and your child; chat to you personally; show you around our wonderful centre; introduce you to our nurturing, committed team; and for you to be part of our Kindercare family.
With love

About the Provider
Description: Each day, KinderCare provides a balanced approach to learning, giving you the peace of mind that your child will have fun as he develops socially, emotionally, physically, and intellectually.
We give your child the tools to become confident and self-aware. In a caring and stimulating atmosphere, our passionate and engaging teachers give your child endless opportunities to grow, learn, and imagine—whether building a spaceship to blast off to Mars or inviting a new friend to share a story during group time.
While academics play a role in development, we believe there are many other opportunities for enhancing the whole child.
We recognize that curriculum is more than what appears in manuals or a series of activities. We believe curriculum is everything that happens in the classroom, from interactions and meals to singing and playing. We never miss an opportunity to educate.
KinderCare teaches children life skills that go beyond reading, writing, and math.
Playing with toys helps develop motor skills and teaches lessons about sharing with friends.
Singing songs while washing hands instills an interest in the arts while forging social bonds and educating children about the need for good hygiene.
Each activity is designed with a specific lesson or outcome in mind.
We provide a balance between choice and structured activities, between group and individual pursuits, and between teacher and child-directed experiences.
We teach seasonally relevant lessons. For example, children learn about gardening in spring and farming in fall. And, we give families the tools to continue the education at home.

Chapter 7
Hannah looked under the sofa for the third time, still hoping to find the answer to the question of why Meg was at home after so many years. Why did you come home to die here.
“I don’t have the slightest idea what to look for, and I can’t think of where else to look,” the girl’s voice came.
“So am I,” Mallory replied, admiring the graceful knees and slender ankles clad in pink stockings: Hannah, wanting to move freely around the room, lifted her Amazon’s skirt. “We’ll have to surrender, Lady Hannah, in the hope that your brother and PC Lewis will have better luck.
– Maybe yes, maybe not. Hannah crawled out from under the couch and held out her hand to Mel to help her up. “What if we search the top floor one more time?” she asked thoughtfully.
— No. It is better to leave this place as soon as possible.
— Oh, how did I forget? Do you hear the screams again?
— Not yet. But it’s been quite a while, and I don’t know how much longer I can keep my brain closed.
– Then we’ll leave immediately! Hanna grabbed his arm and almost ran towards the exit.
When they were at a safe distance from the house, she asked:
— Would you like to see the garden? There are wonderful flowers here, my lord, I hope a pleasant sight will help you calm down … that is, not calm down, but … er, exorcise the ghosts … that is …
– You mean that the garden, on the one hand , beautiful, but on the other hand, is it far enough from the cottage and I won’t hear anything there? Mel suggested.
– Yes! As far as I know, not a single murder was committed among these flower beds and even duels did not happen, and therefore you will not have to fight other people’s emotions . .. Except with your own admiration for the wonders that nature shows us.
“I understand,” the marquis smiled. – Do you like flowers?
– Of course! I think everyone loves them, don’t they?
– Nothing like that.
— And you, Lord Mallory?
“I can’t say that I don’t like it,” Mel drawled, putting the girl into the saddle. — Looking at flowers is more pleasant than looking at carrots or turnips…
— But? said Hannah with a smile, wondering to herself how this gentleman, a native of Yorkshire, who had never been in their places, so exactly repeats the thoughts and even intonations of a speech that she once heard from Will’s lips.
– In what sense is “but”? Mallory, in turn, swung into the saddle. “Ah, should I explain what exactly I don’t like about flowers?” Unfortunately, I can’t say anything definite. It just never occurs to me to go somewhere or go just to admire the flowers; and even more so to spend a lot of money and grow them in greenhouses, as some do. I never even buy them – only a boutonniere in a buttonhole or a bouquet for a lady, if the rules of good manners require it.
– Well, since you don’t particularly dislike flowers, follow me. And Hanna, smiling, turned her horse towards the garden. “We’ll drive past slowly and the flowers won’t bother you at all,” she promised. You can even close your eyes if you like.
The horses were walking. Hannah admired the flower garden, and Mel was silent for a while. Finally he noticed:
– The garden makes a pleasant impression. What is that stone bench?
Yes, my lord.
– And in that direction? A statue?
– Yes, my lord. I think it’s Cupid… And that disheveled thing with leaves is called a tree. And small creatures with jumping legs and sharp wings are swallows.
Mallory laughed:
— How nice of you to enlighten me!
– I wasn’t sure you were interested, but I’m glad you liked it!
Duke Berinic sat in the library with his riding boots propped up on a chic carved wood table. He leaned back, and his chair was balanced on two legs, but, judging by the peaceful expression on his face, Berinik felt quite tolerable.
“This man is so strange,” Hannah said, appearing at the door to the office. “Even weirder than you, Will.
— Who?
– Lord Mallory.
– Really? This is a mess. I’ll have to increase my degree of eccentricity.
Oh, please don’t! Hannah raised her hand in protest. “You’re eccentric enough already, I assure you.”
— But Lord Mallory still surpassed me! How did he do it?
— You see, he… feels something that others cannot. And he hears voices that, it would seem, he should not hear!
“That’s all right with me,” said Berinik. I also hear a lot.
— Really? And you’re the only one who hears this?
– No, everything is different here. I hear things that are not meant for my ears, but everyone else listens to them with delight. George Ethan Warren and I have just returned from Barren Wichy. That’s where I learned that Meg hadn’t disappeared in London a few years ago. I made her my mistress, and when I got tired of her, I sent her away. She recently returned to force me to acknowledge my illegitimate son. And then I killed her – or ordered her to be killed … They have not yet decided how it really happened.
– Will! Hannah’s eyes widened in surprise. But after a few seconds, confusion was replaced by anger, and she exclaimed: “How dare they! You do so much good to the villagers, and here’s the gratitude – they spread disgusting gossip about you!
— Come on, Hannah. They come up with something new as soon as the weather turns bad and everyone gets bored. To be honest, it even works for me. After all, a person who enjoys a terrible reputation does not have to actually be a monster.
– It doesn’t matter, Will, there’s a limit to everything! Who would have thought of blaming you for Meg’s death? I think I should go to the village today.
Berynik slowly shook his head:
— You don’t need to protect me, sister. In addition, this gossip was not started by local residents. It seemed to me that she even angered them to some extent. All these rumors are spread by visiting gentlemen. There are a whole bunch of them here to participate in the auction, if you remember. Mallory didn’t tell you anything?
– Not a word.
– He must not know yet. But they will tell him, no doubt! Do you think he will believe? In general, do you like him?
— What? the girl asked absently, absorbed in her own thoughts. — Lord Mallory? Probably like it… But that’s not important now. Will, you can’t ignore such vile lies! These conversations must be stopped!
— In what way?
— Find the rascals who spread such unworthy rumors, and… and…
— So what? Challenge them to a duel—on the wasteland in the wee hours? Put each bullet in the forehead?
“You can bury them up to their necks in the ground, and let the villagers throw stones at them,” a thin but enthusiastic voice was heard.
– Oh! Hanna literally jumped in surprise.
— What’s the matter with you, dear? Have you forgotten that we got an elf? the brother asked.
– No, I just didn’t notice him when I came in… And I don’t see him now either. Where is he?
“Get out, elf,” Berinic ordered.
– Nope. You said that if you see my face again, you will take up the planer to correct the mistake of nature.
— Okay, I take it back. I’m just a little upset by the rumors about our alleged relationship with you. Get out.
George’s beaming face appeared over the back of the chair. It was turned towards the window, so the boy could not be seen, but he could admire a wonderful view of the garden, fields, herds of sheep and houses in the distance.
– Hello! George smiled at Hannah. The girl noticed in the hands of the boy a volume in a green leather cover. With his finger he held the place where he had finished reading.
— How did you come up with such a terrible idea, elf? There was undisguised enthusiasm in the duke’s voice. – Bury people in the ground up to their necks!
– I knew you’d like it! This is what the American Indians did with their enemies. This is stated in the book.
“Don’t believe everything that is written in books, my boy,” Berynik said thoughtfully. “I doubt that anyone, even American Indians, would have committed such cruelty… However, it sounds quite tempting…
— William!
— Come on, Hanna, he knows perfectly well that I’m joking! Our elf is generally surprisingly quick-witted. And he is persistent – George Ethan Warren will not dissolve snot and tears if someone decides to tease him a little or make a rude joke.
— Thank God! Hannah replied angrily. “Otherwise, he would have been crying non-stop since the day he crossed the threshold of our house!”
– What do you mean by that?
“She wants to say that you tease and make rude jokes all the time,” the boy readily explained.
– Not true! said the duke indignantly. I am often polite and even friendly.
– Really? George was surprised.
— Often? Hannah asked with a chuckle.
– Well, okay, okay! Sometimes! Sometimes I am polite and friendly. When they force me to. By the way, it will happen soon. While you were away, sister, Martin and Ann stopped by. They asked me to do them a favor and I agreed. Out of the goodness of my heart.
— What kind of service? Hannah asked suspiciously.
— Arrange a ball in Blackcastle next Saturday.
– Ball? Next Saturday? But William! You have no idea what it means to have a ball! It’s… it’s not easy at all and requires preparation!
— Well, it won’t be a regular formal event. Rather, a little entertainment for the gentlemen who have gathered for the auction. I think the ladies will not mind either – they will have the opportunity to once again flaunt dresses and dance in the evening party. Is it bad?
– Keep in mind that you need to send out invitations, and in advance, so that people have time to respond; then ventilate and tidy up the hall, decorate it.
“Anne and Martin will take care of the invitations and other things, they promised to do everything right,” the duke assured his sister. – Heine has already opened the hall and sent the servants to restore order. Elf and I will take care of the decorations.
Are you and George?
– Exactly! the boy replied enthusiastically. We are going to sit down for plans and sketches.
“So you definitely have nothing to worry about, sister,” Berinik summed up cheerfully. – We will do everything in the best way.
— What about the music? Hanna exclaimed. Where will we find musicians?
– Among our people and neighbors! Hastie and Whitewes promised to ask around when they went to the Lame Dog. Purvis plays the violin and the younger Miss Compton plays the harp. But if you don’t like it, I’m ready to play the piano.
— Can you really play the piano? the boy wondered.
– I can. And without false modesty, I can say that I play very well.
Hannah, still in a state of near shock, sank into a chair and put her hand to her forehead and moaned:
– I can’t believe it!
– What’s the matter?
— But you are going to arrange a holiday for the very people who spread disgusting rumors about you, in fact, accuse you of murder!
– Do you think they won’t come? the duke asked worriedly.
– Of course they will! At least to look at you and slander.
– Well, they won’t succeed! I will announce publicly that the elf and I are not related.
“Yes,” George confirmed. “His Grace will inform everyone that he is not my father, but only a guardian. I wouldn’t mind being his son, but I’m from a different family. I am Warren and proud of it.
Mallory walked along the path past Squire Topher’s extensive stables. At the far end were the stalls, their doors opening onto the courtyard rather than the inner corridor, so that their occupants could enjoy the scenery. Snoop was in one of these comfortable stalls, and Mallory looked into each one in turn until he got to the right one. Snoop chewed on the hay, leaving the curious to inspect his croup. There was a cat lying on a mat in the corner, and Mel thought it looked suspiciously familiar. The cat stretched and yawned, revealing sharp teeth, and he knew it was Liddy. – Liddy, is that you?
Hearing her name, the cat raised its ears and looked at the man. The stallion stopped chewing the hay for a moment and glanced suspiciously at Mallory with a gleaming brown eye. The cat stood up, slipped leisurely between the hooves of the horse and jumped up on the door leaf. She carefully sniffed at the marquis’s sleeve, then purred and began to rub against him.
Is that you, Liddy? Mel muttered in bewilderment, carefully examining the animal. “Why the hell was Heisenby looking for kittens in my bedroom if you live in a stable?” Your brood must be around here somewhere. If you have it. You don’t look like a breastfeeding mother.
“Mrr,” the cat replied.
Snoop also decided to take part in the conversation: he went to the door and poked his velvet nose into the cat’s side. The cat, as if driving away an annoying kitten, slapped him on the nose with her paw.
“Well, well,” said Mallory, “it’s all clear now.” You two are old buddies. And Martin hoped that if I smelled like Liddy, then you, my friend, would treat me favorably.
Mallory stroked the stallion’s nose, and it neighed softly.
— But if this is true, then you, friend, are the very vicious and stubborn animal with which they frightened me. And Martin wanted me to see you completely different and take part in the auction. But why? I never thought he was capable of such tricks. And Ann too. Is it because of money? It can’t be—it’s full of wealthy buyers and fine horses. And the Squire’s business is going just brilliantly. Then what’s the matter? Or maybe Martin just wanted to please me? After all, I told him many times that I dream of buying a stallion descending from the Turk. And since I must have made a rather gloomy impression lately, Heisenby decided to give me a little happiness. He’s a good friend, isn’t he, Snoop? Too bad he didn’t love Harry, and I couldn’t tell him how sad I was that I didn’t hear from him. After all, Harry is in India, and there is war again …
Snoop shook himself and headbutted Mal in the shoulder. Mel began to search his pockets, but did not find anything edible.
— Sorry, Snoop, I promise to bring you a present, only a little later. I don’t want to see anyone until I get my thoughts in order. You see, I made a fool of myself right in front of Lady Hannah.
Liddy, who had wandered around the stall for some time, returned to the door leaf, and now the marquis addressed his complaints to her:
— Hannah is an extraordinary woman. She was not frightened and did not mock me even after I almost fainted in front of her eyes and fled from that terrible house as if the devils were chasing me. And then I told her about the voices that I hear, but even then she did not call me crazy and even allowed me to help her in the search. In conversation, she made me laugh, although after I made myself out to be a coward, I was not laughing.
Hannah greeted Silverdale with a slight bow of her head, accepted a bunch of wild flowers and gave Gaines, ordering him to put it in a vase.
Would you like some tea, Lord Silverdale? the girl asked in the tone of a courteous hostess.
Yes, thank you.
– I didn’t expect you.
– I know.
— Please sit down.
Silverdale waited until Hannah sat down on the ottoman in the Blue Parlour, before sitting on the edge of the chair opposite. He held his back very straight, his carefully combed hair shone with gold, his neckerchief was of impeccable whiteness, and his frock coat, in this season’s fashionable blood-red color, sewn by a famous tailor, fit just perfectly.
“You used to call me Christopher,” Silverdale said sadly.
— That was before…
— Yes, yes, I understand! It’s just that I… I lack that sincerity and simplicity that was once in our relationship. I hoped to beg your forgiveness, to prove to you that my repentance was sincere. That’s what I wanted to say last night, but Mallory interrupted me.
“No need to apologize again, Lord Silverdale,” the girl objected. “I already said I forgive you.
– In words, but resentment still lives in your heart.
– Oh no! I believe that life is too short to carry grudges for so long. Yes, and this feeling is harder for the victim than for the offender. Besides, I am not a seventeen-year-old girl and I know what to expect from a man.
— Yes, I remember: it was your fifth season in London. Believe me, for four years I did not dare to approach you! Just watched from the sidelines and suffered.
– Something is unbelievable.
– In vain!
— Why were you so indecisive? Maybe they were afraid of my brother?
– Not at all! I just felt unworthy. From the moment I first saw you, I knew for sure that I wanted one thing – that you become my wife and that we be together until the end of our lives, but … but I am not rich and I was afraid that you and Berinik would consider me a greedy person.
— How could you think that money matters to me or my brother! Hannah exclaimed angrily.
– I didn’t know you as well as I do now! I was stupid to put off getting to know each other, and then I was even more stupid. I realized that you are the most extraordinary girl in the world, and lost my head! Scared that you’d reject me, and made that crazy attempt to compromise you.
Hannah’s cheeks flushed and she said angrily:
“You weren’t being stupid, but rather shamelessly!”
– I was in despair! I longed to marry you, but I was afraid that Berinic would never allow it.
— Desperate or not, you had no right to speak to me like that, to touch me. And most importantly, you tried to kidnap me!
– Oh no!
– That’s right. After all, your carriage was waiting at the fence. A little more, and you would have simply thrown me over the wall, put me in a carriage and taken away. If I hadn’t hit you.
– Yes, in the stomach. And then on the leg. And on the head with a handbag! It was terrible. And I ran, but I found the courage to return, and here I am again, in front of you. I am just as madly in love and just as desperately want to marry you, but now I have become smarter. Trust me, Hannah, Lord Silverdale has matured in the year he’s had to live without you. I have learned my lesson well, oh my Lady Hannah! Please give me one more chance to win your heart!
At that moment Heine entered with a tray, and Hanna mentally thanked God, for his appearance interrupted an unpleasant conversation for her. The Duke of Berinic soon arrived. He leaned back against the fireplace and casually said:
– Pour me some tea, Hannah. I won’t say no to gingerbread. Didn’t expect you today, Silverdale. Is this a courtesy call or do you have business with me?
– A trifle, but it is important to me. You see, I lost my keychain and I think I dropped it somewhere in the castle last night. Maybe one of the servants noticed the trinket? Indeed, it is inconvenient for me to bother you over such a trifle, but this little thing is dear to me.
– Didn’t notice anything like that. Are you sure you lost the key fob in the lock? I’ll check with Gaines, though, or have you already asked him, Hannah?
“No,” the girl replied. “Before you came, we were talking about other losses. Lord Silverdale, as far as I remember, you like tea with one lump of sugar and cream. Have your passions changed?
— Oh no, I never change my addictions! – Silverdale answered, accompanying these words with a languid look of his beautiful eyes, so that Hannah would not doubt the true meaning of what was said.
– Imagine, these gentlemen who have come from London gossip like real village gossips. They say that Berinik himself took away that missing maid somewhere, and when she began to defend the rights of the child, he simply killed her. By the way, a few more people came with the same tight wallets as yours, so the auction promises to be interesting.
— What did you answer them, Martin? About the duke?
– He said that they were very wrong. Berinic would never do anything like that.
