AMERICA’S MOST ACCREDITED
We’re so proud!
Nationally only 10% of daycares are accredited – nearly 100% of our learning centers are. That’s a big difference,
and that means KinderCare kids are getting the very best. Here’s why.
SCHOOL-READY
What Learning Looks Like
Our talented early-childhood teachers set kids down the path toward becoming lifelong learners in a positive, safe, and nurturing environment.
Christian Kids KinderCare Programs
Infant Programs (6 weeks–1 year)
Leaving your baby in someone else’s care is a big step. Everyone at our
centers—most importantly, our naturally gifted infant teachers—will work with
you to make sure the transition goes smoothly. When you step into our infant
classroom, you’ll see how much we want your infant to feel safe, loved, and
ready to explore their world.
Toddler Programs (1–2 Years)
Everything in our toddler classroom is designed for little explorers. That’s
because a lot is going on at this age. When your child is wandering all over the
place, that means they’re learning and discovering new things every day. We’ll
help them explore their interests (and find new ones!) as they play and learn.
Discovery Preschool Programs (2–3 Years)
This age is filled with so much wonder and curiosity. That’s why we offer a ton
of books and toys and bring artwork down to kids eye level. Children in
discovery preschool also begin to learn how we all work together in a
classroom. Simple math and science, pretend play, and group play help them
get used to a more structured school setting.
Preschool Programs (3–4 Years)
This age is all about expression, when kids really start to form their own ideas
about what they want to play and how they want to create. Every day in our
preschool classroom, your child will explore science experiments, create
artwork, and play pretend—all the skills needed for their big next step:
kindergarten!
Prekindergarten Programs (4–5 Years)
When you walk into one of our pre-K classrooms, you’ll see artwork and
writing displayed around the room. Labels are everywhere to help kids connect
letters with words. You’ll also see pictures on the walls that reflect the families
in our community. Your child will also deepen their knowledge in language,
math, science, Spanish, and social skills.
Before- and After-School Programs (5–12 Years)
You can count on us to provide reliable care for your school-ager while you’re
at work, with safe transportation from our center to your child’s school and
back! Whether your child wants to start a drama club, build a volcano, or
create a comic book, they will have a place to follow their dreams. Your child
will start and end the day with a whole lot of fun!
School Break Programs (preschool, prekindergarten, and school-age)
Winter break, spring break, summer break—when school’s out (but you still need to work), you
can count on KinderCare to provide a safe and supportive learning environment that’s focused
on fun. We welcome children ages 5–12 during school break times and make sure they have a
sensational, screen-free experience they won’t forget.
Learning Adventures – Enrichment Program
Cooking Academy™ (3 – 12 Years)
In Cooking Academy, kids learn new recipes from cultures around the world and
develop a healthy relationship with food. They’ll whip up everything from Southwest
rainbow lettuce wraps to pumpkin muffins, building their skills in STEM, communication,
and more along the way. And yes—little chefs get to eat their culinary creations!
Music Explorers™ (2 – 4 Years)
KinderCare families are already giving a standing ovation to our newest Learning
Adventures program: Music Explorers! Kids will learn to sing, move, listen, play
instruments, and even create their own tunes. Our original curriculum blends math,
science, social studies, literacy, and mindfulness (think yoga!) for a uniquely KinderCare
way of learning the foundations of music.
Phonics Adventures® (2 – 4 Years)
Learning how to read is a whole lot of fun at KinderCare! We help kids grow to love
books and words (and get ready for kindergarten) in our Phonics Adventures program.
From discovering the basics of vowels to practicing poetry, kids learn all about letters
and sounds in small-group lessons made just for their age group. (Bonus: Kids who
attend our phonics program are more prepared than their peers for school—and we
have the data to prove it.)
Spanish
Spanish Adventures provides young learners with a foundation for later success with
the Spanish language. Music, games, children’s Spanish literature, and other tools give
children multiple opportunities to hear, practice, and see Spanish language to develop
vocabulary and conversation skills. Curriculum includes lessons on greetings, numbers,
colors, animals, family, body parts, and pets, as well as how to engage conversationally
during common scenarios at home, a restaurant, or at the zoo.
STEM Innovators (3-8 Years)
You’ve probably heard a lot about how important STEM education is for your child, but
what does that really mean? Our STEM Innovators program takes kids’ natural ability to
make sense of the world and applies it to robotics, chemistry, coding, geology, and
more. While your child experiments, they’ll discover how to use technology to do
amazing things!
Our Teachers
We’re the only company in early childhood education to select teachers based on natural talent. Being a great educator isn’t enough though.
KinderCare teachers are also amazing listeners, nurturers, boo-boo fixers, and smile-makers. Put more simply,
we love our teachers and your child will, too.
Meet just a few of our amazing KinderCare teachers!
A KINDERCARE TEACHER WITH
An Artist’s Heart
“My classroom is full of art!” says Mary Annthipie-Bane, an award-winning early childhood educator at KinderCare. Art and creative expression, she says, help children discover who they really are.
We put our best-in-class teachers in a best-in-class workplace. We’re so proud to have been named one of Gallup’s 37 winners of the Great Workplace Award.
When you put great teachers in an engaging center, your children will experience
an amazing place to learn and grow.
Family Stories
Don’t take our word for it. Hear what our families have to say about our amazing center!
-
I have two boys, ages 15 months and three months, who have both attended since they were six weeks old. I literally cannot say enough good things about the staff. They love on our boys as if they were their own. They are invested in their well-being and development and I feel like they are an extended part of the family. Couldn’t recommend this place more!

My name is Leila and I am the mother of Sonia and Matthias a newborn. Sonia ( a school ager) has attended Christian Kids since she was 6 months old. Recently Ms. Jennifer brought to my attention that Sonia keeps twitching one of her eyes. and that she had observed her at play, reading etc. I had noticed this at home but thought she was just winking at me. I called the doctor and am taking her in for a appointment.
I feel truly blessed to have such amazing women taking care of my children. They always seem to have someone or know someone who can work with me on anything that I need help with. They truly are my kids second parents. Many thanks to Ms. Jennifer and hats off to Ms. Bonnie for making sure that the quality of care that I receive at KinderCare is still unmatched!!

Apache2 Debian Default Page
This is the default welcome page used to test the correct
operation of the Apache2 server after installation on Debian systems.
If you can read this page, it means that the Apache HTTP server installed at
this site is working properly. You should replace this file (located at
/var/www/html/index.html) before continuing to operate your HTTP server.
If you are a normal user of this web site and don’t know what this page is
about, this probably means that the site is currently unavailable due to
maintenance.
If the problem persists, please contact the site’s administrator.
Debian’s Apache2 default configuration is different from the
upstream default configuration, and split into several files optimized for
interaction with Debian tools. The configuration system is
fully documented in
/usr/share/doc/apache2/README.Debian.gz. Refer to this for the full
documentation. Documentation for the web server itself can be
found by accessing the manual if the apache2-doc
package was installed on this server.
The configuration layout for an Apache2 web server installation on Debian systems is as follows:
/etc/apache2/ |-- apache2.conf | `-- ports.conf |-- mods-enabled | |-- *.load | `-- *.conf |-- conf-enabled | `-- *.conf |-- sites-enabled | `-- *.conf
-
apache2. conf is the main configuration
file. It puts the pieces together by including all remaining configuration
files when starting up the web server. -
ports.conf is always included from the
main configuration file. It is used to determine the listening ports for
incoming connections, and this file can be customized anytime. -
Configuration files in the mods-enabled/,
conf-enabled/ and sites-enabled/ directories contain
particular configuration snippets which manage modules, global configuration
fragments, or virtual host configurations, respectively. -
They are activated by symlinking available
configuration files from their respective
*-available/ counterparts. These should be managed
by using our helpersa2enmod,
a2dismod,a2ensite,
a2dissite,and
a2enconf,
a2disconf
. See their respective man pages for detailed information. -
The binary is called apache2. Due to the use of
environment variables, in the default configuration, apache2 needs to be
started/stopped with /etc/init.d/apache2 or apache2ctl.
Calling /usr/bin/apache2 directly will not work with the
default configuration.
By default, Debian does not allow access through the web browser to
any file apart of those located in /var/www,
public_html
directories (when enabled) and /usr/share (for web
applications). If your site is using a web document root
located elsewhere (such as in /srv) you may need to whitelist your
document root directory in /etc/apache2/apache2.conf.
The default Debian document root is /var/www/html. You
can make your own virtual hosts under /var/www. This is different
to previous releases which provides better security out of the box.
Please use the reportbug tool to report bugs in the
Apache2 package with Debian. However, check existing bug reports before reporting a new bug.
Please report bugs specific to modules (such as PHP and others)
to respective packages, not to the web server itself.
Memphis (ancient city) – Egypt – Planet Earth
The capital of Ancient Egypt
Memphis was the most important place for the ancient Egyptians to worship the god Ptah. One of the names of Memphis is Khut-ka-Ptah, or “Temple of Ptah”. To give more mysticism and mystery to the cult of Ptah, the Memphis temple of Ptah was located outside the city walls. Also, the cult of the sacred bull Hepa, associated with Ptah and having its own temple in Memphis, was widespread in the city.
Memphis, or rather, what is left of it, is located on the western bank of the Nile River, in the place where five thousand years ago the border of Upper and Lower Egypt lay, where the Nile Delta began and the flourishing Fayum oasis was located.
History
The latest archaeological excavations have confirmed the veracity of the ancient legend, according to which Memphis was founded by the first king of united Egypt Menes (Mina) around the XXXII century. BC e. The original name of Memphis – Inbu-hedge, or “white walls” – came from the name of the fortress, near which the city grew.
It began to be called Memphis by the name of the pyramid of Pharaoh Pepi (Piopi) II Neferkare, who ruled approximately in 2279-2219. BC e. In fact, the name of the city is the ancient Greek spelling of the ancient Egyptian funerary concept Men-nefer-Pepi, which meant “good haven” or “strong and beautiful Pepi”.
Memphis was at the same time the political, craft, religious and agricultural center of all Egypt. From here, the pharaohs ruled Egypt until the conquest of the country by Ancient Rome. It was the center of the ancient defense industry: the finest war chariots of the ancient world were made in Memphis. Here was the center of the cult of the god Ptah and the sacred bull Apis, and the main Egyptian temples and monuments were erected in their honor.
The lands around Memphis were extraordinarily fertile due to the silt that accumulated after the floods of the Nile. Local residents were mainly engaged in peasant labor, growing crops, cotton, figs, grapes, olives, churning precious rose oil and breeding sheep, of which several hundred thousand heads grazed here. All this was enough to feed the palace servants, a whole army of priests, servants, slaves, not counting the numerous embassies from neighboring countries who sought to fall at the feet of the pharaoh, and numerous pilgrims who were eager to enlist the protection of the god Ptah.
Memphis was the capital of Egypt in the era of the Old Kingdom (XXVIII-XXIII centuries BC), under the pharaohs of the New Kingdom (second half of the XIV-XII centuries BC) and under the most recent pharaohs (404-343 years . BC.). At this time, the history of Memphis – the capital of the pharaohs – ends and a new one begins, as the seat of the governors of Egypt: first Persian (525-404, 343-332 BC), then – Greco-Macedonian (about 332-322 years . BC.).
Then begins the era of the decline of Memphis, and the main role in this was played by the emergence of another large city – Alexandria. The new rulers needed a capital on the sea to trade throughout the Mediterranean. In fact, Memphis, located in the desert, has lost its former meaning. The overall picture of decline was completed by the beginning of the Arab conquest of Egypt and the construction of a new capital – Cairo: for several centuries the Arabs took stone for city buildings from the magnificent palaces, temples, parks and fountains of Memphis.
Memphis is an ancient Egyptian city on the border of Upper and Lower Egypt, on the left bank of the Nile. The ruins of the city are located near the modern city of Bedrahein (El Badrashein) and the village of Mit Rahina, southwest of Cairo. The most famous ruins are the temple of Ptah erected under Pharaoh Ramses II and the Memphis Necropolis, located to the west of the city, including the archaeological zones of Abu Roash, Giza, Zawiet el-Arian, Abusir, Saqqara and Dahshur, stretching for about 35 km.
For centuries, the city was completely covered with silt caused by the waters of the Nile. Almost no entire buildings have been preserved here, but excavations are ongoing. This is a very difficult task: in this place there is a high level of groundwater and a thick layer of alluvial sediments of the Nile, and the ruins turned out to be under private houses and palm groves.
Memphis was remembered only in the 19th century, on the wave of European interest in Egyptology, after the campaign of Napoleon and the studies of the British, who exported from Egypt to Britain everything that could be loaded onto ships.
It was then that the remains of the temple of the god Ptah were discovered, followed by the Serapeum, the burial place of the Apis bulls, the earthly incarnations of the god Ptah. Consequently, the most studied part of the city belongs to the New Kingdom, when Memphis was the northern capital of Egypt.
If the main temple was preserved in the form of a few fragments, then time nevertheless spared the statues of Pharaoh Ramses II, which were installed in front of the temple. These are two colossal 13-meter statues: a granite one is installed on the square in front of the Ramses station in Cairo, a limestone one lies on the ground in a palm grove under a concrete canopy in Memphis.
From the alley of sphinxes that leads to the temple of Ptah, only the sphinx of pharaoh Amenophis II of the New Kingdom era has survived. The looted and destroyed necropolises of Memphis – with pyramids and tombs of kings and nobility – are put in order today, but very little remains of them. So, from the imposing walls of the “white city” – Inbu-hedge, a small limestone fragment of the pyramid complex of Pharaoh Djoser (2690-2670 BC) in Saqqara has survived to this day.
The city had a very peculiar structure: it stretched for many kilometers, but these were mainly residential quarters, which surrounded the palaces of the pharaohs, and these quarters did not communicate with each other. Subsequently, under the Arabs, such a system of urban settlement led to the emergence of numerous suburbs, each of which was inhabited by residents of a certain origin: from one region, one profession, etc.
The Arab conquerors tried not to leave any trace of Christianity in Memphis (at one time Memphis was the center of Middle Eastern Monophysitism), and no buildings of that period remained on its territory, with the exception of the monastery of Apa Jeremiah in Saqqara.
Archaeological excavations at the Memphis site are probably the longest scientific work in the history of mankind: they have been going on for the past two hundred years. But this period was not enough: to date, only a twentieth of the territory of Memphis has been studied.
Today
Today, several towns have become neighbors of Memphis, and the most famous of them is El Badrashein. Like their ancestors thousands of years ago, the locals raise sheep, grow fruits, and make cheese and butter. But income from tourism is growing, the population is switching to serving tourists, ranging from making replicas – supposedly ancient Egyptian figurines – to working as guides. The latter type of income can hardly be called reliable: the temple of Ptah is often inaccessible due to a sudden rise in groundwater, flooding the entire territory of the ancient capital.
In 1979, the necropolises of Memphis – Saqqara, Abusir, Dahshur and Giza – were included in the UNESCO World Heritage List.

Curious facts
Methods of the Alabaste -Monolith of the Faransh of the Pharaoh Pharaoh weighs at least 80 tons.
The surviving architectural monuments of this time include, first of all, the temple of Ptah, the patron god of this city, erected under Ramses II, who was revered here together with his wife Sekhmet and his son Nefertum.
The strategic location of the city, which controlled both the Nile Delta and the nearby areas along the river valley, gave rise to another name for the city: Mehattawi, or “the scales of both lands.”
According to the legends, Pharaoh Pepi (Piopi) II inherited the throne at the age of six and, according to legend, lived to be a hundred years old.
The pyramid complex of Pharaoh Pepi (Piopi) II in Saqqara consists of the main pyramid Menkh-ankh (“Turn of Life”) and seven companion pyramids: four are ritual and three are for the wives of Pepi Neit, Idut and Ujepten. The pharaoh also had a fourth wife – Pepi Imtes (who was left without a pyramid as punishment for treason) and a fifth – Ankhesenpepi (for some mysterious reason, the pharaoh for some reason ordered to build only a mastaba – a truncated pyramid).
Obeying the cult of the sacred bull Apis, the priests regularly chose one of the most beautiful and imposing living bulls as the earthly incarnation of the god Ptah. Apis was brought to Memphis, and the festivities lasted eight days. Then the bull was brought to the temple of Ptah, where he remained all his life: the girls served him, and the high priests or even the pharaoh himself performed sacrifices before him. Any movement of the divine bull (waving its tail, turning its head, etc.) was perceived as an omen and the will of the god Ptah. When Apis died, all of Egypt went into mourning. However, if the bull lived to be 28 years old – the age at which the god Ptah “died”, the priests drowned him in the Nile. Starting from the 7th century BC e. dead Apis were embalmed and buried in sarcophagi at the Serapeum cemetery. During excavations in Memphis, burials of nine bulls and huge stone tables for making mummies of sacred bulls were found.
In 639, the Arab commander Omar Amr ibn al-As at the head of an 8,000-strong detachment surrounded Memphis and besieged it for seven months. The besieged were almost lucky when the besiegers themselves almost died during a flood on the Nile, but the waters receded, and Memphis was taken.
Of all the finds in Memphis, the most famous is the mysterious “Bird from Saqqara” – a figurine of a bird made of sycamore, found in 1898 during the excavation of one of the burials of Saqqara, dating back to the 3rd-2nd centuries. BC e. “The Bird from Saqqara” became widely known after 1972, when the Cairo amateur Egyptologist Khalil Messicha stated that it was a model of an ancient glider aircraft.
Memphis style in the interior, photos and design ideas
Milan, 1980. Italian designer and architect Ettore Sottsass creates “Memphis” – a new style that will turn the entire design world upside down. The group he founded will abandon the existing rules. Sottsass decided to start his own band in memory of the Bob Dylan song “Stuck inside of Mobile with the Memphis blues again”. This is how a design direction was born, devoid of fear of bold combinations, and interpreting new design as a constant experiment. The source of inspiration for the Memphis group was the pop art style, with which it has in common the rejection of conventions, unusualness, brightness, courage and unexpectedness of decisions.
Members of the Memphis group experimented with mixing different colors, textures and materials. In the new design, everything was allowed: primary colors that became decorative elements in their own right, games with volumes, mixing shapes and materials. Designers used and often abused patterns, objects took on hypertrophied geometric forms: lamps and vases, totem structures, extravagant and multi-colored, were used in abundance. The eccentric and amazing style of “Memphis” in the interior, full of dynamism and humor, awakened the design of those years and introduced a new gaming aesthetics, freedom of self-expression into the creative process, emphasized the visuality and entertainment of things.

Totems
Memphis is a design style that encourages juxtaposition of sculptural objects of color and play with volumes. Designers draw inspiration from totems. The photo shows totem sculptures by Ettore Sottsass.
No need to choose between bold shapes or colours, designers can have fun and indulge in excess.

Another example of the use of “totems” can be seen in the collector’s apartment, where several vases of hybrid shapes adorn the wall with humor and extravagance. The composition of three vases looks very graphic.

Furniture color block
The Memphis style in the interior is characterized by monochrome furniture and the use of geometric lines. Therefore, designers opt for unusual furniture (for example, in this living room there is an all-black and white cubic table and chairs in the spirit of pop art) and a dialogue between textures (matte black leather sofa combined with streamlined armchairs, shiny surfaces and rounded lines).

In this multicolored anarchy, even the furniture comes into play, as in the New York apartment in the photo where low coffee tables in different colors are brought together.

Mixing patterns and colors
Black-white pattern in the form considered part of the “Memphis” style. Especially in combination with pink, in which some furniture details are made (in this case, chair legs). Even more impressive is the use of pastel blue when choosing furniture – as, for example, is the case with this refrigerator.

Vibrant primary colors in the spirit of Mondrian dominate this study: red, blue and yellow. Colors are combined with vases and objects of different sizes arranged like trophies on the shelves – this design technique creates an unusual atmosphere in the room.

Memphis style in design: what the 1980s looked like
The Memphis movement is one of the most incredible examples of success in the history of design.
Like many other artistic movements, it began as a form of self-expression of the authors, a way to oppose the predilections of the elite and confuse it. The result was a style that was revolutionary for its time and is still a source of inspiration for many today.
By OrangeCrush
While the Memphis style has been popular and established over the years, it has not always had a good reputation. This is a bright, colorful style that cannot be separated from the era. If used carelessly, your design projects may look old-fashioned. On the contrary, an experienced designer is able to turn style flaws into virtues: annoying retro gives way to life-filled nostalgia.
We give you some tips on how to apply this classic style effectively, look at the history of Memphis design and contemporary examples of its use.
What is Memphis design?
The Memphis style is a 1980s aesthetic featuring scattered, bold color shapes and lines. It is usually a combination of circles and triangles with black and white graphic patterns such as polka dots and wavy lines.

The Memphis style is now seen by many as an integral part of the 80s look, so it’s important to learn about this era in order to fully understand it. Let’s take a look at the history of Memphis design, the people who created the movement and the events that influenced it.
History of the Memphis Movement
Imagine you are at a party and you are bored. You have been missing for a long time – it seems to you that years have passed. You wonder how it happened that a party that was supposed to be fun, completely robbed you of vitality. When you look at the yawning faces around you, you realize that drastic measures will be required to save this long night and spice it up a little. So you desperately take a sip of your drink, pull your sunglasses down over your eyes, and hop on the couch. You decide to sacrifice yourself and sing karaoke.
The birth of the Memphis style was very similar to this story. It started with a meeting of architects and industrial designers in Milan in 1981. But in reality, the guests were not tired of the party, but the general state of design – the creative sphere stopped developing, became corporate and monotonous.
De Stijl is an artistic movement that probably inspired the Memphis movement. Image by Wikimedia Commons.
Long before the events described in the design and fine arts, there were already movements that laid the foundation for the Memphis style, and it was they who most likely remembered the guests when they tried to understand at what point everything went wrong.
Kandinsky’s work also probably inspired the Memphis movement. Image by Wikimedia Commons.
These include the abstract shapes and colors of Cubism, De Stijl and the Harlem Renaissance, as well as Pop Art, a 1960s movement that challenged sophisticated tastes by incorporating elements of popular and mainstream low culture into art.
However, the most significant influence on the Memphis style was modern minimalism. The classic Bauhaus rule “Form follows function” has been interpreted as the need to eliminate any purely decorative elements. The Second World War further strengthened this belief: the scarcity of materials led to the emergence of a few, utilitarian styles that lasted for many more decades.

The result of the Milan party, which was later called the Memphis group, was a bold style that shook the existing order. Soon an exhibition was organized, where the members of the group demonstrated unexpectedly bright objects. The furniture was multi-coloured, asymmetrical, often uncomfortable, made from cheap materials and—in a cheeky travesty of upper-class culture—named after luxury hotels.

As you might expect, this exhibition made a splash in the design community, and soon enough even its haters found it hard to resist the new trend. The Memphis movement, named after the Bob Dylan song from the Blonde on Blonde album, was everywhere.
The Memphis style became a fashion staple in the 80s. Pinterest image.
Although it all started with furniture, the style proved popular enough to spread to art, graphic design and fashion. Thoughtful “bad taste” fit perfectly into a decade that was the heyday of glam metal, shoulder pads and parachute pants, mohawks and perms. In a word, the 80s were stunning and were not afraid to flaunt it.
The 1980s MTV logo features many Memphis inspired designs. MTV image.
The Memphis style became especially popular with American youth because it contrasted sharply with the Reagan administration’s crackdown. The pinnacle of success was the creation of a new channel, MTV, which used the aesthetics of the Memphis movement for its logo.
Although this was an act of defiance, there was no malicious intent behind the actions of the participants in the movement. The nature of the Memphis style was liberation and joy, as evidenced by the many colors and varied geometries. However, like a bright star, he was doomed to burn out quickly. Since this style went against practicality, it was impossible to apply it in ordinary everyday life. At 1987, after Black Monday, when the stock market crashed, the Memphis group officially announced the closure.
But unlike most short-lived crazes, the Memphis style was too attractive to completely disappear. That’s why you can find some of its elements up to the 90s in the costumes and typography of the series Saved by the Bell or in the popular “Jazz” typography for disposable cups. In the next section, we will talk about where you can find manifestations of the Memphis style today.

Examples of contemporary use of the Memphis style
Fortunately or unfortunately, the Memphis style is theatrical and pretentious, and this alone makes it difficult to work with. It is also one of those styles that are tightly intertwined with a particular time period, creating a fine line between trendy retro and outdated designs. But despite these difficulties, designers around the world are proving that this style can be more versatile than we think. Let’s look at modern interpretations of the Memphis style.
Memphis Background
One of the most common ways to use this style is to create a patterned background. Although the Memphis style was originally conceived to attract attention, colors and chaotic shapes can bring out objects in the foreground due to their high contrast.
Written by bananodromoBy Tanya TamechBy Fahrenheit 32By andrei2709By Giovani Flores, Behance
A popular technique is to leave empty space among Memphis-style graphic elements for the central object of the composition to create a kind of frame. Alternatively, you can randomly place shapes right behind this object to get a splash of vibrant colors in the background.
Miniature Memphis Style
Memphis design has always made a strong impression on people. It’s so effective that, like hot sauce, sometimes just a little bit is enough to give your project the power it needs.
Written by DolphinArtBy T6SBy ARMOREDFATEBy reza ernandaBy Yeye Weller, Behance
This is why many designers these days prefer to add small, randomly scattered shapes and lines to just hint at Memphis style rather than making the whole project too flashy. This approach allows them to tap into some of the style’s boundless energy without making the visuals too provocative.
Textured Memphis Design
While the classic Memphis style usually includes solid colors and simple black and white graphic patterns, many contemporary designers are adding a variety of textures to their designs.

These can be watercolors, acrylics, sketches, rough paper edges, and gradients. The point is not only to create a relief that will make the Memphis design less intense, but also to add an additional 3D effect to this expressive style.
Memphis lettering
The letters are predictable shapes that can keep the Memphis frenzy at bay. Like a star, they can become a compositional center that will attract attention and fix the surrounding graphic elements.
Written by Dalmartian Written by gotza Written by Asael Varas Written by ᒎᗩƳᒎᗩᑕᛕᔕΘᑎ™ Written by Mariano Pascual, Behance
More often than not, you’ll see the letters themselves designed in the Memphis style. 3D letters look especially impressive, as designers have the opportunity to use patterns on different planes. This style usually looks best on creative logos or calligraphy projects, which can be creative and colorful, although it hurts readability.
Memphis Organic
Although Memphis was originally designed with strict geometry, many designers are now adding flowing elongated organic shapes to compositions. These are not radical changes, but rather a natural evolution of the curved lines and round shapes that were originally popular in Memphis design.
Written by monostudioBy JianBrandingBy luisashalaBy VoiceDesignBy Patswerk, Behance
While some people may think this usage goes beyond the classic Memphis style, tradition has never played a role in this movement. Memphis design has always been about breaking the rules, so it makes sense that it would inevitably break its own rules.
Memphis design is not over yet
The Memphis style is not just a stupid idea or a prank of bored designers. It was the spark that defined the ideas of the decade and inspired an entire generation. The energy of this style, its freedom and cheerful colors have not lost their relevance, so many people still consider it extremely effective. However, the audacity of the Memphis style can cause conflicting feelings. If you want to use it to captivate your audience, make sure you work with a professional designer who knows exactly what kind of result your clients might find bad taste.

Memphis is an Italian design and architect team founded in the 1980s and led by Ettore Sottsass. The members of the association included designers from all over the world, from Japan to Australia, but the group itself was based in Milan. Interestingly, the title does not refer to the American town of the same name in Tennessee, but to the Bob Dylan song 1966 – Blonde on Blonde. It contained these words: “Stuck inside of Mobile with the Memphis blues again.” Someone played the record during the general meeting, and voila – the name was found.
One of the world’s most influential design communities, Memphis not only defined style for a decade, but continues to be a major influence on contemporary design – even 40 years later. We talk about how Memphis broke into the global design scene and how the style it set outlived the unification itself.
One could say that “Memphis” came out of the radical design movement that originated in Italy in the 1960s. It was a kind of reaction to the “correct”, rational and very practical design. The then-dominant modernism then was something like a Talmud with a set of rules, while radical design was a way to gracefully break these rules, play with abstraction and move away from minimalism.
What the Memphis designers were doing, led by Ettore Sottsass, was truly innovative. Working with geometric shapes, they created abstract objects, unlike anything that had been invented before. The Memphis style was tantamount to anarchy in design, although its proponents did not at all seek provocation as such – they only wanted to do something truly outstanding.
Of course, not everyone accepted the new, flashy style.
Memphis haters ridiculed the incongruous colors the designers used, the odd shapes of their items, and the overuse of plastic laminate. Love for cheap materials, which the designers gave “artificial chic”, became the hallmark of the group.
Carlton Rack, Memphis
In 1981, members of the Memphis association presented their objects to the general public – the presentation took place as part of the main design exhibition, Salone del Mobile. Each item bore the name of a luxury hotel: Sheraton, Bel Air, Plaza vanity and, of course, Carlton. The exhibition was shocking and confusing, but ultimately everyone was talking about it. One of the members of the association, Martin Bedin, will later recall: “I remember when we drove up to the exhibition, we got into a huge traffic jam, and Ettore thought there had been a terrorist attack. In fact, they all came to see our work.”
In 1982, Sottsass Associati began designing the interiors of Esprit stores with plastic laminate counters, terrazzo floors and walls. Subsequently, Sottsass will also design the brand’s showrooms in Cologne and Hamburg. In parallel with this, the Memphis group held their first American presentation, in an attic in Chelsea. Three thousand people came to the opening, but there were almost no sales. “There was no commercial success at that time,” Sottsass’s widow, Memphis design historian, Barbara Radis, later recalled.
Esprit showroom in Cologne, 1986
Already three years later, in 1985, Sottsass, believing that Memphis had completely outlived its usefulness and not wanting to be defined by one movement, left the group that he himself founded. “He felt that the experiment was over,” said Marco Zanini, one of the designers of the association.
Interestingly, in the same year as Memphis was founded, another important event took place: a television channel dedicated to contemporary popular music, MTV, began broadcasting in the United States. The first logo – discreet graphics and bright colors – strongly resembled the Memphis style. At 19In 1986, the network began to play Ruthless People and programs like Pee Wees Playhouse, filmed in a kitsch aesthetic.
“Pee Wees Playhouse”
A year later, in 1987, the group was formally disbanded. But the Memphis cause, its spirit (though not necessarily philosophy), on the contrary, began to gain new fans around the world. Moreover, popular culture played an important role in this. So, in 1989, the popular comedy series Saved by the Bell began to be shown on cable, the scenery of which was designed under the tangible influence of Memphis. The style set by the unification literally defined the image of a whole decade and was firmly entrenched in history. Famous admirers of outrageous style, for example, Karl Lagerfeld, also contributed to this. He collected a large collection of Memphis furniture and furnished his house in Monaco with it, and on October 1991 exhibited the collection at Sotheby’s. Of course, they started talking about style again.
In 2016, a similar story will happen with the Memphis collection that David Bowie was collecting. The Casablanca shelving unit by Ettore Sottsass is among the 100 items presented at the Sotheby’s auction. It will sell for $88,419 – with an initial cost of $5,000. discover even in the most unexpected areas. Look, for example, at the first Apple watch that the company introduced at 1995 year.

Memphis – style that plays into the interior: photos and examples
For the past few years, it seemed like there were only three styles in the world of interior design: Scandinavian, loft, and classic. Before the start of the new decade, the interiors demanded a change. Today, pure styles are going out of fashion and mixed with each other. The trend is eclecticism, individualization of space and bold experiments. It’s all about Memphis style. We will find out where it came from, how it looks and what it is “eaten” with in modern interiors.
Pop Art + Bob Dylan
Most interior styles are formed by the era and national flavor. But not Memphis. This style is not historical, but author’s. It was born in Milan in the 80s of the last century with the light hand of the architect and designer Ettore Sottsass. Even the exact date of birth is known. On December 11, 1980, Sottsass and his friends were listening to Bob Dylan’s “Stuck inside of Mobile with the Memphis blues again”, which gave the Memphis band their name.
Memphis participants are postmodernists from the world of design, who completely abandoned interior canons and the traditional understanding of good taste. Taking bold pop art as a basis, they created a style even more experimental, fearless and unexpected.
Already in 88, the Memphis group ceased to exist, giving the world of design an eccentric interior style, which 30 years later is back in fashion.
Everyday Zen: The Art of Japanese Minimalism
When the fashion world calls for responsible consumption, rationality and respect for nature, minimalism becomes one of the leading interior trends. Its oriental variety continues to inspire designers and architects around the world, in large part because Japanese minimalism is not just a style, but a worldview.
Memphis Style Ingredients
The most recognizable “recipe” of Memphis: light-colored walls, against which color spots bloom. In space, there are always several active colors in the most daring combinations. This function can be taken over by furniture and accessories, less often by decoration. Primary colors (blue, red, yellow), candy neon shades or complex muted tones can dominate.
Ceilings in such an interior, as a rule, are white, minimalistic, without complex structures. The floor can feature both a neutral finish and a contrasting geometric print, such as a tiled checkerboard inspired by André Putman.
Memphis-style furniture is monochrome, streamlined with rounded lines. It is this interior geometry that has been trending for the last few seasons.
A free combination of textures is welcome. Matte and glossy surfaces, leather and suede, glass, ceramics, metal, wood and cork may appear in space. Expensive natural materials can coexist with budget synthetics and acrylic. There are no restrictions.
The interior always has a contrasting print, one or more. The most popular geometric ones are circles, triangles, stripes, chevrons and polka dots. Animalistic, floral, oriental and other ornaments are also welcome here. The print, as a rule, does not win a lot of space and is introduced into the space as accessories: carpets, decorative pillows, posters and sculptures. Memphis is especially fond of sculptures. The more avant-garde the better. It can be not only figurines, but also functional decor: sculptural vases, lamps, book holders.
For each object in such a space, you can add the prefix “art”.
Memphis plays not only with shapes, but also with proportions. Grotesque decorative objects of monumental dimensions add theatricality to the space. Asymmetry is welcome, but not creative disorder. In such an interior, each item has its place.
Memphis and your interior
Fans of the Memphis style see the interior not so much as a space for living, but as a blank canvas for the creator and a reason for entertainment. Such an interior should be treated with a sense of humor. Memphis will suit bold creative people who value freedom of expression and will become an interesting constructor for designers who are looking for their own style.
Contrasting, ironic, postmodern memphis is back in fashion today in the wake of the popularity of space individualization.
Not everyone is ready to let this style into their home interior, but adding a “pinch” of Memphis to the space is quite simple.
White color in the kitchen
As soon as the highest quality materials from abroad poured into Russia and the very concept of “European-style renovation” arose, many lovers began to experiment with the design and color of the apartment. According to those who once took “non-staining” colors as a basis and put black laminate or tiles on the floor, this experience was not the most successful in their life. Especially often women complain about dark colors. Still would! After all, it is against a black background that dust is so clearly visible, which tends to arise rapidly and in the most unexpected places. Fighting it becomes a matter of life.
It is enough to take a well-established scheme: neutral finish + rounded furniture and a few color spots. You can highlight one wall with a bright color, choose an unusual geometric rug, add contrasting prints with a touch of the 80s and include Bob Dylan.
