AMERICA’S MOST ACCREDITED

We’re so proud!

Nationally only 10% of daycares are accredited – nearly 100% of our learning centers are. That’s a big difference,
and that means KinderCare kids are getting the very best. Here’s why.

SCHOOL-READY

What Learning Looks Like

Our talented early-childhood teachers set kids down the path toward becoming lifelong learners in a positive, safe, and nurturing environment.

Dunedin KinderCare Programs

Infant Programs (6 weeks–1 year)

Leaving your baby in someone else’s care is a big step. Everyone at our
centers—most importantly, our naturally gifted infant teachers—will work with
you to make sure the transition goes smoothly. When you step into our infant
classroom, you’ll see how much we want your infant to feel safe, loved, and
ready to explore their world.

Toddler Programs (1–2 Years)

Everything in our toddler classroom is designed for little explorers. That’s
because a lot is going on at this age. When your child is wandering all over the
place, that means they’re learning and discovering new things every day. We’ll
help them explore their interests (and find new ones!) as they play and learn.

Discovery Preschool Programs (2–3 Years)

This age is filled with so much wonder and curiosity. That’s why we offer a ton
of books and toys and bring artwork down to kids eye level. Children in
discovery preschool also begin to learn how we all work together in a
classroom. Simple math and science, pretend play, and group play help them
get used to a more structured school setting.

Preschool Programs (3–4 Years)

This age is all about expression, when kids really start to form their own ideas
about what they want to play and how they want to create. Every day in our
preschool classroom, your child will explore science experiments, create
artwork, and play pretend—all the skills needed for their big next step:
kindergarten!

Prekindergarten Programs (4–5 Years)

When you walk into one of our pre-K classrooms, you’ll see artwork and
writing displayed around the room. Labels are everywhere to help kids connect
letters with words. You’ll also see pictures on the walls that reflect the families
in our community. Your child will also deepen their knowledge in language,
math, science, Spanish, and social skills.

Before- and After-School Programs (5–12 Years)

You can count on us to provide reliable care for your school-ager while you’re
at work, with safe transportation from our center to your child’s school and
back! Whether your child wants to start a drama club, build a volcano, or
create a comic book, they will have a place to follow their dreams. Your child
will start and end the day with a whole lot of fun!

School Break Programs (preschool, prekindergarten, and school-age)

Winter break, spring break, summer break—when school’s out (but you still need to work), you
can count on KinderCare to provide a safe and supportive learning environment that’s focused
on fun. We welcome children ages 5–12 during school break times and make sure they have a
sensational, screen-free experience they won’t forget.

Participating Child Care Aware Center

KinderCare partners with Child Care Aware® of America to offer fee assistance for
Active Duty military families and flexible support to fit their needs when care at a Child
Development Center on the installation is not available.

Florida Voluntary Prekindergarten Programs

Learning Adventures – Enrichment Program

Music Explorers™ (2 – 4 Years)

KinderCare families are already giving a standing ovation to our newest Learning
Adventures program: Music Explorers! Kids will learn to sing, move, listen, play
instruments, and even create their own tunes. Our original curriculum blends math,
science, social studies, literacy, and mindfulness (think yoga!) for a uniquely KinderCare
way of learning the foundations of music.

Phonics Adventures® (2 – 4 Years)

Learning how to read is a whole lot of fun at KinderCare! We help kids grow to love
books and words (and get ready for kindergarten) in our Phonics Adventures program.
From discovering the basics of vowels to practicing poetry, kids learn all about letters
and sounds in small-group lessons made just for their age group. (Bonus: Kids who
attend our phonics program are more prepared than their peers for school—and we
have the data to prove it.)

Our Teachers

We’re the only company in early childhood education to select teachers based on natural talent. Being a great educator isn’t enough though.
KinderCare teachers are also amazing listeners, nurturers, boo-boo fixers, and smile-makers. Put more simply,
we love our teachers and your child will, too.

Meet just a few of our amazing KinderCare teachers!

A KINDERCARE TEACHER WITH

An Artist’s Heart

“My classroom is full of art!” says Mary Annthipie-Bane, an award-winning early childhood educator at KinderCare. Art and creative expression, she says, help children discover who they really are.

We put our best-in-class teachers in a best-in-class workplace. We’re so proud to have been named one of Gallup’s 37 winners of the Great Workplace Award.
When you put great teachers in an engaging center, your children will experience
an amazing place to learn and grow.

Family Stories

Don’t take our word for it. Hear what our families have to say about our amazing center!

  • My daughter is in the infant classroom at the Dunedin KinderCare. The staff is very kind and I know they are taking good care of her. It’s not as hard to leave her every day knowing she is getting the love and attention she needs. It’s a really great center!

    Joel D. – KinderCare Parent
  • The impact the staff at KinderCare has had on my children is tremendous! The progression in their development is evident.

    Sam F. – KinderCare Parent
  • I am so grateful to be apart of the KinderCare family. Finding you all has made going back to work and adjusting to being a new mom. Each day when I drop off my child he is greeted by a friendly face and open loving arms. He is truly happy and excited each day we walk thru the doors. Thank you all for what you do for my son, and all of the children in your care. You all are ANGELS!

    Amanda R. – KinderCare Parent

City of Dunedin | New Zealand | Prices | Tours | Flights | Hotels | Climate

Over 45,000 cities, including Dunedin, based on public statistics and over 30,000 traveler ratings worldwide.

Dunedin
( Dunedin )

the eighth largest city in New Zealand in the administrative region of Otago.
According to updated data, the population of the city was over 114 thousand inhabitants.
The city is considered one of the most attractive tourist destinations, so it will impress most of its guests.
An additional plus for many will be the fact that most of the population speaks English without any problems.

Dunedin infrastructure.
You can hardly count on a super-fast Internet connection in the city, but finding a good provider should not be a big problem.
If we talk about nightlife, then it must be said that in many areas of the city there are crowded round-the-clock bars, discos and clubs where you can always meet both locals and foreigners.
When visiting Dunedin, many may wonder how safe the city is. Answering this question, we can say with confidence that, according to statistics, this is one of the safest cities in the world.

The main attraction of Dunedin is Lake Wakatipu – one of the cleanest and deepest lakes in the country (400 m), it also has a constantly changing water level – every 5 minutes the water level either drops or rises by 12 cm But the main “lure for tourists” here is the fabulously beautiful bay of Milford Sound, 260 km west of Dunedin . As part of the Fiordland National Park and one of the wettest places on Earth, this area is literally brimming with natural phenomena. You can visit the Otago Museum with a rich collection of Maori art and archaeological exposition, the Local History Museum, the Botanical Garden, the Art Gallery Dunedin , a chocolate factory, a brewery, old gold mines in the vicinity of the city or St. Clair Beach.

Dunedin.

Otago. New Zealand.

City on the map.

On the Pacific coast, in the easternmost part of the Otago region, among the green hills and hills, one of the oldest cities in New Zealand, the beautiful city of Dunedin, is spread. Translated from the language of the Celts, the word “Dunedin” means Edinburgh, the capital of Scotland. This is the name given to the city by the first European settlers, overwhelmingly Scots, in memory of their distant, but probably such a beloved homeland.

The downtown area is the western shores of Otago Harbor, while the suburban area is located on the neck of the Otago Peninsula, the south coast of Otago Harbor, and along the Pacific shores. The harbor itself and the hills that surround the city are the remains of a volcano that once died out in ancient times. The city occupies a vast territory of 3315 square kilometers and until November 2010 was the largest city in New Zealand by area.

History of the city.

According to archaeological research, the settlement of the New Zealand islands by Polynesian tribes began in the second half of the thirteenth century. It is to this archaic period, the period of the moa hunters, that the archaeological finds discovered in the territory of modern “Edinburgh South” belong. For five centuries, until the European arrival, Maori lived here. At first they were the people of Kehui Tipua, who were replaced by the Waitaha at the end of the sixteenth century, and in the middle of the seventeenth century the Ngai Tahu tribes arrived here. Such migration processes were widespread in primitive society and were often accompanied by violence and the extermination of the stronger by the weaker ones. Archaeological excavations make it possible to assert that there were fortified “pa” settlements on the territory of Dunedin. Around the middle of the seventeenth century there was a settlement of Pukekura, and in the second half of the eighteenth century there was a settlement of Otepoti in the center of Dunedin. In the early nineteenth century, the Otago harbor area was the oldest and largest settlement in the South Island.

The first Europeans to visit the coast of what is now Dunedin were members of Captain Cook’s crew. They arrived here on February 25th, 1770, and stayed here for more than a week, until March 5th. Although the lieutenant himself did not go ashore, he made a detailed description of the territory. At the beginning of the nineteenth century, seal hunters appeared here. But relations with the locals did not improve and were tense, and later even resulted in bloody clashes that lasted thirteen years. The cause of this war was an incident that occurred in the harbor of Otago in 1810. During one visit to a camp of European hunters, a Maori chief named Te Voeripiro stole a red shirt, a knife, and a few other things from them. This was the beginning of the war, which went down in history under the name “War of the sealers”, or “War of the Shirt” and lasted until 1823. During this feud, 74 people were killed, including 43 Maori. In 1831, Englishmen Joseph and George Weller established a whaling station. It was the first permanent European settlement in Dunedin. In the thirties, agricultural farms appeared in the Otago harbor area. At that time, military conflicts and diseases introduced by Europeans, in particular the measles epidemic, significantly reduced the number of Maori.

In 1844, representatives of the New Zealand Company, after visiting a number of places on the east coast of the South Island, chose the place where they later built Dunedin. It is recognized as the best of the wetland that was set aside for the construction of Christchurch. And in 1848, a city was founded in Otago Harbor as an association of the Free Church of Scotland. The city was laid out in the center of the harbor. It was given the name of the Scottish capital, and many streets are named after the streets in Edinburgh. William Cargill became the leader of the colony, and Thomas Burns became the spiritual mentor. In 1852, “South Edinburgh” became the capital of the established colony, which extended throughout the south, including Southland.

The Otago gold rush of 1861-1865 played a major role in the development of Dunedin. It contributed to the rapid development of the city. Money from gold was directed to the construction of railways, beautiful houses, temples, educational institutions, the development of industry, banks, institutions. In 1863 a boys’ high school was founded in Dunedin, and in 1871 a girls’ high school. The University of Otago was founded in 1869 and opened in 1871. In 1878 a railway connected Dunedin with Christchurch, and in 1879-om with Invercargill. On December 6, 1881, the Victoria Canal was opened, making Dunedin one of New Zealand’s principal seaports. Theaters, galleries were opened in the city, beautiful structures were built that had no analogues in the architectural form. In a short time, from a small and dirty village, Dunedin turned into a beautiful, prosperous, richest and largest city in New Zealand. This Dunedin remained until the early twentieth century. Since 1900, Dunedin’s importance has declined, and financial and economic activity has begun to move north. Dunedin began to decline, and the city’s population declined. Although the University of Otago continued to develop.

Economy.

Now Dunedin plays an important role in the life of the region and the country. It is one of the four most significant cities in New Zealand. Processing industry, information technologies, biotechnologies are developed here. Dunedin is a center for tourism and eco-tourism. Highway 1 passes through Dunedin and connects it with Invercargill, Timaru and Christchurch. Dunedin International Airport is located 22 kilometers from the city, the third largest in terms of passenger traffic on the South Island, after Christchurch and Queenstown. The airport operates flights to Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, although it mainly operates domestic flights to Auckland, Wellington, Christchurch, Wanaka, Queenstown, Invercargill. Dunedin has the finest train station, but rail service has been suspended. Suburban canceled at 1982nd year, and commercial passenger traffic in 2002th year. Now the railway routes are used only for tourism purposes. And of course, Dunedin is an important seaport, and six English miles from the city is the deep water port of Chalmers, which allows Dunedin to receive vessels of any carrying capacity. The Southern Scenic Route ends at Dunedin and links it to Te Anau via the Catlins, Invercargill and Fiordland.

Education.

Dunedin is also a major cultural, scientific and educational center of New Zealand. Here is one of the largest educational institutions and the second largest employer of the South Island – the University of Otago, Otago Polytechnic Institute, Aoraki Polytechnic Institute, College of Education. There are twelve secondary schools in Dunedin, the oldest being the Boys’ High School and the Girls’ High School, the oldest girls’ high school in New Zealand.

Attractions.

Dunedin has beautiful architecture and many attractions. The central Octagon Square, popularly called the “Octagon” because of its octagonal shape, is a favorite meeting place for citizens and visitors. Here is the Dunedin City Hall, the work of architect Robert Lawson, St. Paul’s Cathedral, the Fortune Theater, as well as many restaurants, cafes, bars, shops. The decoration and pride of the city are the Catholic Cathedral of St. Joseph, created by the architect Francis Petre in 1886. Otago’s First Presbyterian Church, by the same Lawson, is an impressive piece of nineteenth-century New Zealand architecture. The Second Presbyterian Church of the sixteenth-century Scottish Reformed Protestant John Knox. Dunedin’s Lan Yuan Chinese Garden. The Botanical Garden is one of the most beautiful gardens in New Zealand, which contains 6,800 species of various plants from around the world. Art gallery founded in 1884. It contains works by famous world artists and is considered one of the largest art galleries in the world.

The Otago Peninsula is a wonderful place with its famous and the only albatross colony in the world that can be observed from land. In addition, on the peninsula, in a picturesque place, there is a precious pearl – the only Larnaca castle in New Zealand, where a ghost roams for sure. And of course, a place of honor in the galaxy of these glorious and far from fully listed attractions is occupied by a small Baldwin Street, which is always full of tourists. This dead-end street was included in the Guinness Book of Records as the steepest street in the world. It is designed so that it rises uphill at an angle of 19degrees. The street is concreted, not paved, as asphalt can simply flow down in hot weather.

Population.

Dunedin is a predominantly European city. The percentage of the European population here is higher than the country as a whole – 78%, and the Maori and representatives of Asia, Africa, Latin America and the Pacific Islands, the percentage is not significant. In addition, Dunedin is a city of youth. The average age of the city’s residents is 35 years old, and young people under the age of twenty-four in the city make up more than twenty percent. But the unemployment rate is higher here, and the average annual income is lower than the national one. The population of Dunedin according to the results of the June 2018 census is 130,700 people, although the city itself, the so-called Dunedin City, is home to 122,000 people. In terms of population, Dunedin ranks sixth in the country, behind Auckland, Wellington, Christchurch, Hamilton and Tauranga.

Climate.

Since Dunedin is located in the very south of the country, it is colder here than in other large cities of the country. According to the Kerren classification, the climate here is oceanic, but it varies slightly depending on the proximity to the ocean. Summer is moderate, although the air temperature sometimes reaches 30 degrees. Winters are cold. Snow is rare. Heavy snowfalls are possible, but not very often, once every two to three years. In spring, the weather is changeable and can change very often, although in November it is mostly stable. The rainfall in the city is not high, 750 millimeters per year, but despite this, Dunedin is mistakenly considered a rainy city.

The earliest human sites in Dunedin date back to the mid-thirteenth century. The first people to reach these lands, the people (ancestors of the Maori) lived by hunting seals and flightless moa birds. After the defenseless moa ended, and the seals migrated away, famine and wars began among people for hunting grounds. The culture changed: the villages moved to heights convenient for defense, several rows of defensive palisades grew around the huts, the people armed themselves. Within the city limits of modern Dunedin, there were several fortified villages of pa: one near the center, the other at the mouth of the bay.

The first contacts between Maori and fishers were quite peaceful and mutually beneficial, but the theft of the shirt and the disproportionately harsh punishment that followed began a bloody feud that resulted in a dozen more than 75 people have died – fishermen, Maori and sailors. Among those killed was the first settled European resident of Otago, a dealer in jade and dried heads, William Tucker. Like most victims of a bloody vendetta, Tucker wasn’t caught up in the initial quarrel, but simply happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time and got caught in the middle of nowhere.

Whalers arrived in Otago following the seal hunters. In 1831, the first whaling station appeared in the bay. There were many whales and fishing was very brisk. By the late 1830s, Otago Bay had become a famous whaling port. Soon the first Christian mission was opened, and with it the farm. Meanwhile, whales and seals are predictably gone.

Dunedin’s curiosity is the World’s Steepest City Street – Baldwin Street. The street turned out to be a record steep by accident. Like most New Zealand cities, Dunedin was planned and laid out in advance, back in England, without detailed consideration of the actual topography of the geographical point chosen for the city. As a result, some streets lay on the terrain under an incredibly steep gradient. The laurels in this urban misunderstanding fell to the lot of the short dead-end street of Baldwin Street, which climbs the mountain at a completely impractical angle of 19th degrees (average). On the steepest section, for every 2.66 meters of distance, Baldwin Street gains 1 meter in height! The street is lined with concrete, since the asphalt on such a steepness would simply not be able to resist and run down the slope on a hot day.

Perhaps the only drawback of Dunedin is that the city center does not have a decent access to the sea. Although the harbor is very close, it is difficult to get to it from the center. On the way get up: a colossal building of the railway station, the Chinese Garden (worth a visit), museum steam locomotives, an iron fence, sleepers, rails, a busy road and God knows what else. The same difficulties were once on the approaches to the sea in the center of Auckland and Wellington, but they have already been resolved there. The city of Dunedin has yet to undergo this evolution.
Looking forward to

In summer, the daytime temperature can rise to +30°C, but usually hangs somewhere at mark +19°C. During the off-season, Dunedin invigorates its inhabitants with classic New Zealand “Four Seasons in One Day” weather, in which you can experience hot sun rays, biting cold wind, rain and even snow pellets in an unpredictable sequence for several hours. So that the weather does not take you by surprise, does not wet your boots and does not give you bronchitis and a runny nose, cozy cafes, art galleries, bookstores, pubs and other wonderful dry and warm eateries are located around the city.
