Although Bellevue is lacking in natural attractions, perhaps the most concentrated type of flora in the Pacific Northwest can be found on 53 acres covering the Bellevue Botanical Gardens.

Mercer Slough State Park One of the city’s largest Bellevue parks, it contains over 320 acres of amenities and things to explore throughout the year. The park has over six kilometers of trails that allow you to explore the wetlands that surround this natural park, as well as 2.6 mile water trail that you can canoe through the park. 8 Maidenbauer Beach Park Maydenbauer, beach park. only a hidden gem of Bellevue’s natural space, but also an important moment in the city’s history. Located on Meydenbauer Bay, on the banks of Lake Washington (King County’s largest freshwater lake), this area was once a landing point for ferries from Seattle and was critical to the development of Bellevue. Currently, Maidenbauer Beach Park is tucked away in a residential area and provides locals and tourists alike with the opportunity to get sand between their toes or spread out a blanket for a picnic, perhaps even take a dip in Lake Washington during the summer months when the water is warm enough and lifeguards are on duty.

Golden autumn on NE 8th St. Bellevue
I want to continue the series of photo stories about Bellevue . Just to walk along the individual streets of the city, along which there are ordinary houses and shops, and along which I found many miles during my five years of living in this city.

The city is not at all rich in objects of historical interest, although it has attracted many large companies, which are mainly settled in downtown Bellevue.

I’ll start with the closest and most familiar street to me – 156 Avenue North (156 Ave NE).

The names of the streets themselves are very convenient for understanding your location. The city of Bellevue is divided from west to east by Main St, and the following streets, located parallel to Main St, are assigned numbers in ascending order with the index NE or SE, depending on the north or south direction. Streets running perpendicular to the main street (Main) also have their own numbers, only they are no longer street, but avenue. This street naming system is common in the United States. Haglund, Ivar (1905-1985) was a well-known personality and was considered by many to represent the true character of Seattle and was an icon that many Seattleites followed. that’s what the people of Seattle call themselves). He was known as an entertainer, folksinger, restaurateur and eventual “king” of the city’s waterfront. Ivar’s story began at 19In 1938, when he opened a small aquarium at pier number 54, and, noticing that visitors were not averse to having something to eat at the same time, they began to sell soup with shellfish and fish.

He knew the true value of advertising and public relations and used it very wisely in promoting his business. At 19In 65, Ivar organized and conducted a festive annual fireworks display at Elliott Bay, dedicated to Independence Day on July 4th. When he passed away in 1985, the townspeople posthumously awarded him the title of “The person whose name is primarily associated with Seattle.” Numerous friends, using voluntary donations, erected a monument to him at the historic pier number 54.

Therefore, there are many Indian restaurants in the city. One of them, Indian King, is located on 156th Street;

A small plaza with my favorite shop Trader Joe’s , which sells many European products and quality fruits and vegetables. Even on this plaza you could have your hair cut and eat in a restaurant with Asian cuisine.

Another street that has been driven many miles is NE 8th St. It is on this street that Stevenson Elementary School is located, where my daughter went.

School starts here at the age of 5 and this class is called Kindergarten or in this class children are taught to read and write. The school is one-story, there are several playgrounds designed for different ages. In elementary school, children study until the 6th grade.

For 5 years of study, for various reasons, we had to change 3 schools.
I liked all three schools with the technical equipment of the classes, excellent gyms and sports equipment, wonderful libraries and playgrounds in the school yard. Once a week, children have a library lesson, where they spend an hour in the library. There they read and discuss what they have already read, take books home. From the very first days of training, we were sent letters printed on sheets, which spoke about the great importance of reading books by a child, about the importance of developing a second language in a child if the parents are a native speaker of a language other than English.

This school had a demonstration lesson for parents once a month. I could come at the appointed time and watch the educational process and, most importantly, my child. I liked that when children are explained new material or repeat what they have learned; read a book to children or tell an interesting story; they are allowed to sit on a soft carpet in a free position, they spend a significant part of school time sitting on the floor.
Children in elementary school draw a lot, sculpt, make and glue something, and all this is evaluated not by a five-point system and not by letters (from A to D), as in high school, but by an asterisk or an image of a round smiling face – a smiley face. Teachers do not skimp on praise and encourage even when there seems to be nothing to praise for. The parent meeting here takes place individually with the teacher. Parents with a child come to school at the appointed hour and within 30 minutes the teacher will talk only with you and only about your child. I remember those boring parent-teacher meetings with my eldest daughter. Where I had to listen for 2 or even 3 hours about Grisha’s bad behavior and Masha’s unsatisfactory grades.

In elementary school, at least until grade 4, children do not use textbooks at home. In the class they are given books, and they receive all their homework either on sheets of paper printed on a printer or in workbooks and mostly do them at school.
A school where children study from kindergarten to grade 6 inclusive
Schoolchildren, like all over the world, are not perfect, and can violate discipline, rules of conduct. The teachers here are not disciplined. To do this, there is an office – the office, where 2-3 administrators on duty are constantly working. All data for each student in the computer. At the lesson, they may not listen, doze off, talk quietly, but no one dares to be rude to the teacher, to argue with him. Cell phones are not allowed at school. And if there were the slightest violations of discipline, the phone rang, someone hit someone, scolded – the teacher sends the violator to the office. In case of gross violations of discipline, or often repeated, they can be expelled from school for one to two weeks.
Sometimes it snows, but very rarely
The salary of a beginning young teacher with a bachelor’s degree in different states ranges from $30 to $35 thousand per year, and an experienced, with experience, with a master’s or doctoral degree (PHD) about 60 thousand dollars.

At the intersection of 156 Ave NE and NE 8th St there is a 24 hour pharmacy. In American pharmacies, in addition to medicines, you can also buy all sorts of things: groceries, cosmetics, detergents, small household appliances, etc.
