Bayshore Home Healthcare, Inc. is an owner-operated, licensed home health care agency that has been providing high quality care to the communities of Long Island and New York City since 1992. We have built ourbusiness and reputation within the community upon the belief that long-term health care belongs at home with family. Our company mission is to provide excellent care and services to our clients at an affordable price.
Crucially, we ensure that all aides are thoroughly screened via a national background check and vetted before they arrive at your door. Furthermore, we are fully insured and regulated by the State of New York. Independent caregivers cannot provide similar peace of mind. It is infinitely safer to rely upon a home care agency for your needs.
Our process begins with the patient, family and our Registered Nurse sitting down to review the specific needs of the patient and developing a complete care plan. Upon completion, our team will choose a caregiver that is best suited to deliver the care plan. To ensure that the patient and family are satisfied with the care provided, a Registered Nurse will continually monitor the caregiver and the level of service being provided.
To ensure client satisfaction and safety, Bayshore Home Healthcare, Inc. staff are accessible 24 hours a day, 7 days per week.

    Providing Highest Quality Care

    A Highly Competent Nursing Team

“Our priority was a highly competent nursing team; Alliance provided that and much more, including respect for our father’s dignity and quality of life; consistent communication with family members; effective coordination with doctors and other healthcare staff. The nurses adapted to challenges with ingenuity, coped with medical concerns in a calm and skillful manner, and interacted with both patient and family with poise and perhaps most important, a sense of humor.”

    – The Family of Governor Hugh L. Carey

    Great People You Can Trust

“Alliance Homecare changed my mother’s life and certainly made mine much easier. At the age of 98, Catherine was an incredibly vibrant, funny, intelligent and lively woman. Their staff provided much more than their jobs: they related to her with love, respect and joy, making each of her days secure and happier. She could share with them her jokes, her memories, and essential things with amusement. I live in France and finding the right solutions from such a distance is tough, I could not have dreamed a better partnership than the one we had with Greg Solometo and his team. Every single day Greg kept me informed on my mother’s health and accomplishments, we really were working together despite the distance. What he did is incredible, even bringing his adorable dog to visit my dog-loving mother! Great people you can trust, with high human values.”

    First-Class, First-Rate Healthcare

“Alliance Homecare is a first-class, first-rate healthcare service organization. Professionals from Alliance have provided and continue to do so quality-oriented services for my 95-year-old father. I am one of his six children and speak for all of us in sharing kudos to the caregivers of Alliance who have been instrumental in creating a pathway for my dad to overcome and recover from a recent clinical challenge. He wants to return to his friends and colleagues in a concert band in which he plays both clarinet and saxiphone. My dad is a highly decorated World War II veteran and we his children want him around for as long as possible.”

    – Reginald Ballantyne III

“Home sweet home,” is a well known expression for a reason – our homes are familiar, comfortable, and calming. Studies have shown that the vast majority of those over 50 would prefer to remain in their home as long as possible. That’s part of why the in-home healthcare industry is so important and why a home health aide can make such a difference. It avoids the unnatural feeling of being removed from your home to live in a nursing home. In-home nurse care can provide patients with long-term care services from the comfort of a place they know, love, and may have even built. Our team of caregivers can help keep you or your loved one healthy, happy, and active during the next stage of their life.

As a premier home health care agency in New York, Alliance Homecare seeks to set and maintain the highest standards of excellence in the in-home care and home health care industry through compassion and respect for our patients and their loved ones and ever-evolving and updating educational standards. We’re committed to providing unparalleled care to our clients while making sure to always respect their privacy, dignity, and a strict code of confidentiality.

When you or your family are in need of home care, we hope you go with us. As an experienced, professional, and licensed agency, working through us can be easier and safer than seeking independent caregivers. Contact us today for more information about how we can help you or your loved one in their treatment or recovery.

How to become HHA certified in New York? Guide

The number of elderly people in the US is increasing, which is why the need for carers and housekeepers is growing. Most American retirees prefer to stay at home rather than in a nursing home in their old age, so the need for caregivers is growing.

The job of a home attendant or home health aid does not require language skills or experience. But you need to get certified to get a good job. These professions give a good start for immigrants to the United States, as they are highly paid and always have vacancies. In this article, we will talk about where you can get an HHA certificate, what you need to do this, and how much assistants earn.

    Content:

    • What do you need to know about the profession of home attendant?
    • HHA certificate: what is it?
    • How to study in New York?
    • Getting certified
    • What will you learn in home attendant courses?
    • Which study program should I choose?
    • Salary and career prospects
    • Where to find a job?
    • What do you need to remember about being a house helper?

What do you need to know about the profession of home attendant?

This is a home helper who takes care of the elderly. The duties of a home attendant include dressing, hygiene, transportation, food preparation and feeding, conducting activities aimed at maintaining cognitive abilities and communicative support. There are home helpers who care for the elderly with dementia, Alzheimer’s disease or physical disabilities.

Home attendants are divided into two categories:

    • Non-certified caregivers hired directly by families.
    • Certified assistants working with domestic staffing companies.

How do I get a US home attendant certificate? There are special educational institutions for this, but the selection criteria in different states may differ. Before contacting a school, be sure to familiarize yourself with its requirements for students.

Studying costs money, so applicants are interested in how much a home attendant in the US pays in order to understand how soon the courses will pay off. In recruitment companies, the cost of an hour of work starts at $15, and the minimum annual salary is about $30,000.

The employment of an uncertified nurse is usually done directly by the family. Often, the helper is offered a residential job to be near the elderly person around the clock. It can be difficult, but with such conditions, the salary is much higher – $ 95-100 thousand per year.

    HHA certificate: what is it?

HHA stands for home health aid. Accordingly, the HHA certificate is a document confirming your knowledge in the field of service and care for the elderly. It is necessary for you to provide your services legally and receive appropriate benefits from the employer.

How do I get an HHA certification?

The Code of Federal Regulations has all the conditions for this. It also contains a list of requirements for each state, because individual regions have their own criteria for obtaining a certificate.

Important! If state HHA requirements are more stringent than federal HHA requirements, the former takes precedence, and vice versa. For example, HHA in New York requires a minimum of 95 hours of study, which is less than the federal minimum of 75 hours of study. Therefore, the advantage remains with the state rule.

What are the types of certificates in the US?

Home Health Aides (HHA) is a document that allows you to provide proper care for the elderly at home, including feeding, bathing, transporting, keeping conversations.

Personal Care Assistant (PCA) is a certification for a personal assistant who is responsible for assisting in the care of the elderly, housekeeping, and preventive cognitive maintenance.

2 types of PCA are very common in New York:

    • Housekeeping. Required for working with people with disabilities. Responsibilities include helping around the house and preparing meals.
    • Personal Care . Includes the same duties as Housekeeping, as well as personal hygiene, medication control, diet and daily routine.

How do I get a PCA and HHA certification to get a good job? It is important not only to graduate from school, but also to take a course that meets all the rules of the state where you plan to look for work.

How do I get trained and certified in New York?

If you want to get a job in the Big Apple, you need to familiarize yourself with the rules for obtaining the right license and find the right school option. But first things first.

    Requirements for candidates

Schools that train assistants usually set minimum requirements for prospective students.

    1. Age – from 18 years.
    2. High school diploma or equivalent.
    3. Tuberculosis test results.
    4. Absence of bad habits.
    5. Willingness and ability to learn.
    6. Good physical condition.

Other benefits include: willingness to provide housekeeping services, ability to cook, take care of animals, speak another language fluently.

    Completion of training courses

New York State program includes at least 95 hours of instruction, including:

    • 65 hours in the classroom – 45 hours of lectures and 20 hours of demonstrations.
    • 30 hours of supervised clinical training.

Important! Regardless of the type of college, the curriculum must be approved by either the New York State Department of Health or the New York State Education Department. But not necessarily both at the same time.

Courses in New York cost between $300 and $650. There are different educational institutions, from private agencies to hospitals, ready to teach basic skills. But be aware that the programs of the latter do not always meet the requirements for obtaining a state certificate.

It will take about a month to complete a home care or elderly care course. After successfully completing the training, you will be issued a certificate, on the basis of which you can get a job in a company that recruits home assistants. Working in an agency is different in that you get all the necessary benefits – medical insurance, paid sick leave, vacation, and more.

    Get Certified

The National Association of Home Care and Hospices (NAHC) certifies your competency.

Important! The certificate is only valid for 2 years. After the expiration date, it must be “renewed” through a qualifying exam.

If you have not started working in your specialty within 2 years, the certificate becomes invalid. How to validate the HHA certificate in such a case? You just need to pass the competency assessment program.

There are 2 types of exams to get the certificate:

    1. Written. In 90 minutes, you need to pass a test of 60-70 questions on 13 topics. You get a passing score with 70-80% correct answers.
    2. Practical. Tests 3 to 6 of your acquired skills. The exam lasts about 25-30 minutes. The result is counted when 70-80% of the maximum points are scored.

Please note that in New York you will receive your certification immediately and you do NOT need to take the certified exam.

    (certificate example)

Tip! Even if you don’t have to take the exam in your state, it’s best to do it through the National Association of Home Care and Hospice, which is one of the largest licensing agencies in the US.

Why are you doing this? Due to the fact that each state has its own requirements, questions can arise when moving. For example, how do I validate my New York State HHA certification in New Jersey? Certification from the NAHC avoids these problems because the exam, taken through the Association, is valid in many regions of the United States.

Another case: you live in a state with a highly competitive job market. Then NAHC certification will help you avoid passing qualifying exams. You will not have to stop working, which will only increase your professional experience and greatly facilitate employment in a large medical company.

What will you learn in the home attendant course?

The Home Care Assistant Education Program covers several important areas. The course will tell you:

    • about help with personal hygiene;
    • about symptoms and signs of health problems;
    • how to measure vital signs;
    • how to properly move bedridden patients and more.

Finding the best home attendant courses in New York is not difficult, because there are many specialized institutions with different programs. But first, it is better to decide on a study plan.

Which study program should I choose?

Due to the high demand for nursing and home care services, New York City has many community colleges, private schools, and non-profit organizations. They offer their programs and even certificates of their own design. Among them, you can find paid and free types of programs. Please refer to the table below to determine which option is right for you. We have collected the main advantages and disadvantages of both training programs.

    Benefits Drawbacks
Free Courses Get Free H.A.60/HA6 Certificates
Much attention is paid to practice in hospices or hospitals.
    Possibility to study on weekends.
The program is limited to one direction only.

Not always offered a job after training.
Paid courses Flexible study schedule: day and evening department.

    Online learning opportunity.
    High selection criteria.
The need to purchase educational literature.
Some schools have an entrance exam.

I will tell you more about paid and free educational institutions below.

Tip! To learn more about New York State specific options, visit the NYS Nursing website. All available HHA training programs are collected here. On this resource you can find the school that is most beneficial for you. For example, home attendant courses in Brooklyn or training for HHA and PCA in the Bronx.

TOP 4 Russian-language institutions with HHA training programs in New York

There are Russian-language schools in America that help you get HHA certification. They are licensed by the New York State Department of Education. The main advantage is that it is easier for Russian-speaking immigrants to study in such institutions to overcome the language barrier. Despite the fact that all exams are held in English, during the training you can always ask for clarifications from compatriot teachers.

    ⭆ Concord Rusam

A private school founded by immigrants from Ukraine, where they train home assistants and nurses for bedridden patients. On the website of Concord Rusam you can get acquainted with its activities in different directions. The school provides an 84-hour course to train caregivers. For holders of the PCA certificate, an abbreviated program is available for 44, as well as 8 hours of practice in the hospital. Classes are held in English and Russian. The amount of payment depends on the duration of training.

All teaching materials and literature are included in the course fee. Concord Rusam students are also provided with job placement and resume writing assistance for home care agencies. The school itself is located in New York at 412 8th Avenue, in downtown Manhattan, between 30th and 31st streets.

    ⭆ Clinton Institute

The institution has a Facebook page where it shares news with current and future students. The Clinton Institute offers several medical programs:

    • HHA tuition for $550 full course;
    • PCA certification, cost per course $300.

The school practices the possibility of free education and provides employment services after certification. Classes are held in the morning and evening hours, as well as on weekends. The institution has several branches: on Long Island, in the Bronx, in Brooklyn – 1712 Kings Highway, NY 11229 and Queens – 60-19 Roosevelt Ave Woodside, NY 11377.

    ⭆ All Star Academy

All Star Academy, a health aide and housekeeper for the elderly, is open to everyone. Here you can take PCA courses for $350 and HHA for $600. Plus there is the possibility of free education for home health aid. The HHA class is 75 hours and the internship is 8, in the Assisted Care Living program.

The school helps its graduates find employment with leading home care agencies or on campus. The academy is located in New York, 485 Kings Highway, 2nd Floor, Brooklyn 11223.

    ⭆ IP Training Courses

A distinctive feature of this institution is the linguistic diversity – training takes place in Ukrainian, Russian, Uzbek, Tajik and Georgian. The cost of HHA courses is $550. Their duration depends on the time of attendance. If you attend morning lessons, then the course is read for 2 weeks, in the evening – 3, and on weekends – 5 weeks. You can also study at the school to become a coordinator for home tenant agencies for $1,550.

    Salary and Career Opportunities

The U.S. Bureau of Labor and Statistics released 2021 health assistant salary data. Thus, the average cost of a professional nurse was $14.07, and the annual income was $29,260. But it is worth remembering that wages are highly dependent on location. The minimum rate starts at $8 per hour, and the maximum is around $18-20.

Additional responsibilities and factors affecting the final amount should also be taken into account. For example, the cost of a residential caregiver is significantly higher than that of a visiting caregiver. After all, taking care of a person 24/7 is very tiring both mentally and physically. There are times when Americans look for immigrants to offer them average pay and make up for the rest with permanent residence.

The job of a caregiver is very promising in terms of career and earnings. The increased salary of a nurse in America is available for those who regularly improve their skills and learn something new. So, after getting an HHA, you can get certified as a nurse assistant (CNA), and then even a licensed practical nurse (LPN). The minimum requirement for a CNA is to have a high school diploma. And LPN usually requires a degree from a local college or an accredited online course.

Additional certificates can also increase your income. Behavioral care, heart care, geriatrics, and the like add 50 cents to $1 to your hourly rate.

Where can I find a job?

Vacancies for a nurse for the elderly (home attendant) are very common on job search sites. But you need to be careful not to confuse them with a home health assistant (home health aid). Although these professions are closely related, there are some differences. The first is more focused on housework, and the second has more extensive obligations, implying the observation of a person’s condition.

Consider proven ways to find a job as a housekeeper, HHA and carer in New York:

US Department of Labor. The site regularly publishes up-to-date lists of jobs and resources by state. Here you can find many different vacancies.

Bulletin boards on the Internet or in thematic groups in your city. So, in the catalog of vacancies on BAZAR.club there is a separate category “Nurses | Home attendant.

Agencies providing care for bedridden patients at home or for the elderly. You can send them a resume directly through their website or contact the recruiter by phone number.

Establishments that provide benefits for their students. Here, after successfully completing the HHA courses, you will be offered a job in partner agencies.

After getting acquainted with each of these ways, you will know exactly where you can find a job as a nurse.

What do you need to remember about being a house helper?

Working as a nurse abroad is not as easy as it might seem at first glance. Nevertheless, this is a great start, especially for an immigrant to the United States. If you’re looking to build a career in the health care field, take a look at the HHA certification courses. After them, you will have good prospects for advanced training and wages. Starting with the provision of nursing services, you can “grow” to a physician assistant in one of the clinics in America. Also in the courses you will learn not only to help other people, but also to take care of your own family.
