Chesapeake

Chesapeake Schools Preschool Initiative has begun taking applications for the 2022-23 school year.
Program acceptance is determined by the Virginia Preschool Initiative (VPI) eligibility criteria and is FREE for eligible 4yr olds living in Chesapeake.

Hampton

Hampton City School’s PreK will begin taking appointments to register for the 2022-2023 school year on March 28. The program is for children who are 4 years old on or before September 30th.
All registration will be done at Moton Early Childhood Center, located at 339 Old Buckroe Road. Parents or legal guardians can call 757-727-1061 to make an appointment.

Isle of Wight

Isle of Wight County School preschool applications are now being accepted for the 2022-2023 school year. In order for children to participate, children must be four (4) years old by September 30th, 2022 and live in Isle of Wight County.
Our Learning Center Preschool Program is funded through the Virginia Preschool Initiative (VPI). Eligibility for participation is based on criteria set by the Virginia Department of Education (VDOE).

Newport News

Newport News Public Schools Preschool is now accepting applications for the 2022-23 school year! Students must be born between October 1, 2017 and September 30, 2018
NNPS Preschool is a state and federally funded program, and all applications will be reviewed based on eligibility criteria and space availability.

Norfolk

Norfolk Public Schools Preschool is now accepting applications for the 2022-23 school year. Your child must be 3 or 4 by September 30 of the school year you are applying to enroll.
NPS preschool programs are not first-apply, first-accepted. For your child to be considered for NPS preschool programs, you must complete an application and submit the required supporting documents. For our three-year-old classes, students must live in a Title I school zone to be accepted.

Portsmouth

Portsmouth Public Schools Preschool Program will be open for 2022-23 registrations from April 5 – May 31, 2022. Your child must be 4-years-old on or before Sept. 30, 2022.
Selection into Portsmouth Public School’s Bright Start Preschool Program is based on the eligibility criteria established by the state of Virginia and Portsmouth Public Schools. 

Suffolk

Suffolk Public Schools Early Start Program for 4 yr olds living in Suffolk, VA. This program is for children who turn 4 years old by September 30, 2022, who need an extra year to prepare for success in kindergarten and meet the eligibility criteria.

Virginia Beach

Virginia Beach Public Schools Pre-K programs are now accepting applications for the 2022-23 school year.
The Pre-K program is funded through both the Virginia Preschool Initiative (VPI) and Title I grants awarded to the school division. VBCPS offers Pre-K in select schools across the division. 

York County

York County School Division’s preschool programs include Early Childhood Special Education (ECSE), the Integrated Preschool Outreach Program (IPOP), and Virginia Preschool Initiative (VPI). ECSE & VPI at both tuition-free while IPOP is a tuition-required program.

This program is for: ESL, low-income households, expectant parents, teen parents

Program description: The Head Start early childhood and preschool programs are for children up to age four and provide comprehensive services to children and families including health, education, nutrition, family services, mental health, disabilities, parent involvement, community-family partnerships and transportation for children in specific areas. The Early Head Start program also provides specialized services to at-risk infants and toddlers (6 weeks to 3 years) of teens and women who reside in southeast Newport News.

If you are a parent or expectant parent and would like to enroll in a Head Start program, please call us today for eligibility and enrollment information.

STAT: 100% of Head Start students have received free medical and dental exams.

Courtney and Stevan J. Ross founded the Ross School to share their global education experience with their daughter and her peers. The Ross Spiral curriculum is unique in its interdisciplinary approach, fostering connections across multiple disciplines, and providing students with a comprehensive understanding of concepts.

    Battleship Wisconsin

    Battleship USS Wisconsin (BB-64) in Norfolk, Va. This battleship was used to fight in World War II, the Korean War and Operation Desert Storm. Today it is a museum ship operated by the National Maritime Center in Norfolk. You can take a self-guided tour of the ship to see the various cabins, dining room, offices, and even the chapel inside. There are also tours you can join to learn more about the ship and the military personnel who lived and worked on board. For an additional $20 per person on special tours, the engine room and command and control areas are allocated. It is one of the largest battleships ever built by the United States and features Art in the Spirit of Wisdom, Air Battleship, and Whiskey Walk: Fifty Years of Service.

    Norfolk is also home to one of the finest art museums in the southeastern United States. The Chrysler Art Museum is named after Walter Chrysler, who was a heir to the automobile industry and made a large donation to the museum in the 1930s. Today you can see over 30,000 works of art from all over the world. There are museum areas that highlight art from Europe, the Middle Ages, America, sculptures, decorative arts and photography. The museum is open on Sundays from 12:00 to 17:00 and from Tuesday to Saturday from 10:00 to 17:00. What is good about this museum is that it can be visited every day. If you only have an hour to spend at the museum, be sure to check out the Ancient Worlds collection of art glass, watch the daily noon demonstration at the Glass Studio, or listen to the gallery’s free talk at 2pm.

    Norfolk is home to Nauticus, a maritime center that has been hosting guests since 1994. This maritime center has many things to see and do, such as theaters and hands-on exhibitions. Climb up to the second floor to visit the Hampton Roads Naval Museum where you can see many scientific exhibits. Be sure to check out the ship models and the remains of old shipwrecks when visiting the museum. Nauticus is open daily from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm between Memorial Day and Labor Day, and then open Tuesday to Saturday from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm and Sundays from noon to 5:00 pm the rest of the year. Basic ticket for adults costs 15.9$5 and includes access to the Nauticus, a self-guided tour of the battleship Wisconsin, and 3D movies.

    It’s also nice to explore the over 155 acres of Norfolk Botanic Garden on a day in the city. Here you will find many themed gardens with seasonal flowers and activities for the whole family. Be sure to visit the Japanese Garden, WOW Kindergarten, Tropical Exhibition House and Hummingbird Garden. Garden hours vary seasonally, but during the summer months they often include opening hours from 9until 9 or 10 pm.

    Families with children also love visiting the Virginia Zoo, which is adjacent to Lafayette Park and home to hundreds of amazing animals . At the zoo you will find animals from all over the world and you can explore the beautiful gardens between animal shows. There are over 500 mammals, amphibians, reptiles, birds and invertebrates that live in the zoo’s 53 landscaped acres. The historic Wells Theater was built in 1912 and the Virginia Stage Company performs a main stage series with five productions and an annual 9th ​​holiday performance0137 Christmas song.
