A great school district is often the deciding factor for homebuyers. These are some of suburban Chicago’s best schools and districts:
Northbrook
Northbrook sits to the north of Chicago, just inside Cook County. The suburb is home to Glenbrook North High School, which receives an overall grade of A+ from Niche.com. The school gets high marks in almost every category.

Winnetka
New Trier Township High School in Winnetka also receives an overall A+ from Niche.com. The high school gets high marks for its academics, teachers, administration, sports, clubs, activities, and more. Winnetka is one of the nation’s wealthiest places and sits about 16 miles north of Downtown Chicago.

Oak Park
High ranking schools are also part of the appeal of living in Oak Park. This Chicago suburb is home to Oak Park & River Forest High School. The school has an overall grade of A+, with high marks for its clubs and activities, academics, and sports. High ranking public elementary schools in Oak Park include Horace Mann Elementary School, William Beye Elementary School and William Hatch Elementary School. Oak Park is about 10 miles west of Chicago.

Arlington Heights
About 25 miles northwest of Chicago is where you’ll find the suburb of Arlington Heights. The Arlington Heights School District consists of nine elementary and middle schools. Many of them get high marks from GreatSchools.org. Overall, the school district gets an A from Niche.com, with much higher performing test scores than the state average in reading and math.

Park Ridge
Also northwest of Downtown Chicago is the suburb of Park Ridge. According to GreatSchools.org, some of the top performing public schools in Park Ridge include Franklin Elementary School and Eugene Field Elementary School. Maine South High School gets an overall A+ from Niche.com, with high marks for its teachers, academics, sports, clubs and activities. Maine East High School gets an overall A grade.

Mount Prospect
Just a few miles from O’Hare is the suburb of Mount Prospect. There are four schools in the Mount Prospect School District, which covers kids from pre-K through the eighth grade. Most kids in Mount Prospect go on to Prospect High School, which gets an overall A+ from Niche.com, with high marks for teachers, academics and more.

Wilmette
Wilmette borders Lake Michigan, to the north of Chicago. Kids in kindergarten through eighth grade attend classes in the Wilmette Public School District. Test grades in the district tend to be above the state and national average. Older kids in Wilmette typically attend the highly rated New Trier High School in nearby Winnetka.
