About the Provider
Description:
Welcome to Gateway Academy preschool in Wilmington, North Carolina. We are a 4 star school accredited preschool and aim to exceed the the high standards set by the state of North Carolina for child development. Our amazing school features 11 custom designed classrooms where children have ample space for learning, yet still have a cozy atmosphere that feels like home.
Our preschool curriculum program, Ascend Curriculum, features Zoo-Phonics®, Math Their Way, Baby Signs®, Country and Culture, Spanish, and monthly themes around which we plan our Art, Science and Sensory, and Literature programming.
Throughout the year, we offer several opportunities for families to be involved in our school; community yard sales, ice cream socials, spaghetti dinners, parents’ night out and many other special events.
A nutritious breakfast, lunch and afternoon snack are prepared by our wonderful cook and are included in the weekly tuition.
Our Wilmington preschool offers child care and early education programs for children ages six weeks through pre-kindergarten. Additionally, we have the best After School program in Wilmington including homework help and free transportation from area schools for children kindergarten – 5th grade.

GATEWAY ACADEMY
Gateway Academy is a unique school in Houston, Texas that serves 6th-12th grade students with academic and social challenges. We opened our doors in 2006, committed to teaching traditional academics, while also meeting the social and emotional needs of our students with learning and social differences. Over the last fifteen years, our work has been to create a safe space that provides students with the opportunities for identity exploration, learning self-awareness, and practicing self-advocacy.
As a team, we consistently gauge our success against two measurements: our impact on individual families and our impact on the community.
We consider an individual student a “success” when they are able to move into a workplace or academic setting with confidence, operating within their community with a sense of direction and purpose. Our program aims to provide the education and experiences necessary to foster self-advocacy skills that will ultimately lead our graduates to a life of self-sufficiency. So to us, success isn’t simply about a high school diploma – success is about our graduates’ accessibility and initiative to leading a life filled with joy, relationships, and independence after leaving Gateway.
Secondly, we consider ourselves “successful” in delivering our mission to the community when people are more informed about resources, services, and options available to their families after engaging with our staff, our families, and our social media. We believe that the most revolutionary thing we can do, besides being an innovative educational program, is to give resources freely and frequently to all families and providers, to grow a more connected community.
This benefits not only our school and families, but all families of children with differences in the greater Houston area.
Our Mission – Gateway Academy serves 6th-12th grade students with academic and social challenges through innovative approaches to learning, physical fitness, and social awareness. Our graduates encounter a changing world with self-advocacy, opening a path to personal significance in college, career, and community.
Our highest priority from the very beginning has been to create a school community where every student feels safe, connected, understood, and supported. This positive environment reshapes attitudes about school, improves the prospects for success in the classroom, and allows the student to bring their best self every day. Over the last 15 years, we have worked with over 300 students and families in the greater Houston area. Our campus is located within the Houston ISD boundaries and our unique programming has served students from 20+ school districts.
