“Grape or Fruit punch? Chocolate or vanilla? Pizza or McDonalds?” These were some of my favorite “this or that” questions to answer as a kid. And I still love any question about food!

Today, if someone asked me “Star Trek or Star Wars”…  it would be a tough answer, but I usually have to pick Star Wars. At some point, we all have to choose between two things and questions like these can help kids learn more about themselves and their friends.

When I taught ESL, this was one of my favorite activities I would use to wrap up a lesson. I never had a problem getting kids to answer them and even allowed them to make up ones to ask me.

What are This and That Questions?

This and that questions are different from open-ended questions, since they specifically ask about two different things. They can be used to break the ice or to get kids (or adults) engaged in conversation. Because they are specific, kids will have an easier time answering them than they would with open-ended questions.

This and that questions are also a great way to learn more about someone. When you ask someone this or that questions, you can learn about their hobbies, their favorite things, and more. The better you know someone, the more productive and engaging your conversations with them will be.

Pro tip: When presenting these questions to a younger child, you can use images in place of words on a chart for little ones still building vocabulary (i. e., This “Picture of beach” or That “Picture of pool”?).

Hello my friend,

Let’s have some fun today.

You want to get to know your child better, right?

Well today I will be sharing with you the easiest way to do this – in a way that connects and feels easy instead of super hard.

If the role of a parent is to try and bring them up to be as well-rounded and responsible as possible then it is helpful to at least try and make sense of how they see the world.

You can do this by asking the right questions which encourage positive change and nurtures the confidence and resilience they already have inside them.

One way of doing this is by asking the right questions.

Ask your children thoughtful questions which inspire conversation and a healthy curious mindset.

Open-ended questions are a brilliant way of finding out how someone else is thinking.

This will not only enhance your relationship with your children but also help you bond with them, while learning to better understand them.

If you are a teen reading this post please feel free to share this section with a parent or any trustworthy adult.

You too can ask people these questions.

This will give you the opportunity to learn more about your family and friends.

Looking for conversation topics? Or just want to get to know your kids other better? Here are a ton of questions for kids!

Kids say the silliest things and if your kids are anything like mine, I often feel like they will never shut up 😂

However, sometimes you want to reel in the conversation, or maybe start a conversation between kids that don’t know each other very well.

I love asking open questions for kids. You truly never know what will come out of their mouth and it can lead to some priceless memories!

How to use these questions

These questions can be used as funny ways to pass a boring wait or car ride, as a kids question of the day at school or camp, as icebreaker questions or getting to know you questions, or just as fun and silly questions for kids to answer!

If you want to turn this into a how well do you know your kids game, have someone ask them the questions and record the answer and then bring you in to guess their answer for each question! This is a lot of fun for extended or large family get togethers.

Also, a note on closed ended questions vs open ended questions – some kids will respond well to either, but some kids need a little prodding to say more than a few words. Remind them to share their why for their answer!

Be sure to check out my favorite questions to ask your significant other!

How to form an emotional dictionary of children 5–7 years old”

Emotional speech expresses the feelings, moods and experiences of a person. The inability to express one’s feelings with the help of words, facial expressions and gestures causes difficulties in the child’s communication with both peers and adults. For normal communication, the child needs to be sure that he will be correctly understood and perceived. Preschool children often face a problem in understanding and expressing their emotional state. And teachers can help them in this by forming and developing the emotional vocabulary of children through games, tasks, solving problem situations.

To develop the emotional vocabulary of older preschoolers, the teacher must take into account the age characteristics of children and gradually complicate the tasks.

It is necessary to develop an emotional vocabulary in children aged 5–7, taking into account the knowledge and skills that were formed earlier.

What are the features of working with older preschoolers?

In order to expand the emotional vocabulary of older preschoolers, it is necessary to introduce into the dictionary more difficult-to-understand emotions: interest, surprise, fear.

For the six basic emotions, children of this age learn more complex words: “delight”, “jubilation”, “optimist”, “inquisitive”, “eccentric”.

In the classroom, more complex types of speech activity should be stimulated. To do this, the teacher asks the children to give detailed and reasonable answers to questions. It is important that the child can clearly and in detail talk about his own emotional experience, utter an expressive monologue in front of his peers. At the same time, the teacher draws attention to the fact that preschoolers use all means of expression. Some elements of the lesson with children aged 5–7 are repeated, but become more difficult. Thus it is necessary to enter new ones.

What elements should be included in the lesson for children aged 5–7

Introduce children to a story (text or cartoon) in which the characters experience emotions understandable to older preschoolers: interest, surprise, fear. You can turn to stories in which the characters experience emotions already familiar to children: joy, sadness, anger. At the same time, the teacher should activate a more complex vocabulary of these emotions. For example, the words “jubilation”, “merry fellow” for the basic emotion of joy.

Ask: “How did the character feel when…?” This question activates words in the child’s speech that indicate shades of emotions. For example: fear, anxiety, excitement, anxiety, horror . For children 3-5 years old, the teacher asked a similar question in a different form: “What mood did the hero have when …?”

Ask: “Do you think the character…was very, very, or just a little frightened (happy, surprised, etc.)?” In this case, any of the children’s answers are correct.

Then ask: “What words can express that the hero is very, very or very frightened (rejoiced, surprised)?” Listen carefully to the children’s answers, repeat them, add your own options. When the children answer these questions, they begin to understand the shades of emotions, expand their emotional vocabulary. For example: the hero is very surprised – amazed, dumbfounded.

Is the gnome very, very afraid or a little bit? (Any choice of children’s answers).

– How can you tell that a dwarf is afraid? (He is terrified).

– How can you say that he is a little afraid? (He is worried, worried, worried.)

– How can be said to be very, very happy? (He rejoices, delighted. )

Draw the children’s attention to the expression, actions of the characters in an emotional situation. If you are studying a new emotion with children, use the same methodological techniques as in working with younger preschoolers. For example, offer to play an expressive etude. At least 2-3 pupils should participate in each study.

Sample questions :

– Who can show how he is watching with interest the children on the task?

– Who can show how he listens with interest to the teacher’s story?

Ask: “What does a person who…) look like and what does he do?

This question activates words in the children’s speech that describe the actions, expression of the hero experiencing an emotion.

For example: jubilation, delight – smiles, laughs

If you consolidate the knowledge of preschoolers on an already studied emotion, this question can be asked without demonstrating an illustration or an expressive study.

Ask a question: “What words can be used to describe a person who is often afraid, worried, cowardly (cowardly, restless), interested in many things, likes to gain new knowledge (curious), overcomes his fears, fear (brave, courageous, resolute, courageous) etc.”

This question activates words in the children’s speech that indicate the qualities of a character experiencing emotion.

Ask the child to remember fairy tales, stories, cartoons, poems, in which the characters experience the emotion being studied. Senior preschoolers should name a specific episode of the action. Unlike classes with children 3–5 years old, all pupils must give a detailed answer to this question. There is no need to prepare answers in advance.

Preschoolers not only train semantic memory, but also develop monologue speech in the form of spontaneous speech creation. In this way, they will learn to understand the situational causes of emotions.

Teach children to ask questions that involve emotions and emotional vocabulary. When a child learns to formulate questions, he masters a more complex type of speech activity and acquires social experience. Forms of implementation of this technique can be different.

Ask the children to remember and tell when they experienced the emotion they are learning.

For example , What surprised you? What was interesting to know? What were they excited about? Were there any events that made them excited? Such a task in a general lesson should be given only for positive emotions. It allows children to become aware of personal emotional experience, to get acquainted with the emotional experience of other children and connect this with the word for emotion.

In addition, children are trained in monologue speech. Unlike younger preschoolers, children aged 5–7 perform this task without an example from an adult. This task will help to understand the emotional state of the child himself. Sometimes children’s answers reveal their hidden qualities, character traits.

Dear parents!

Educators, psychologists and doctors strongly recommend the observance of the daily routine and consider it the basis of your child’s health.

It is recommended to bring the child no later than 8-30 in the morning, since it is from this moment that the active entry of the child into the regime moments of the kindergarten begins.

From the life of the group

Preschoolers get to know the world around them. In this area, the child develops as a subject of cognition: his curiosity, independence, initiative. The child develops general ideas about reality, about himself, about other people.

HELLO RED SUMMER!

This is how they live in the “Bee” group:
They play and sing here,
They find friends here,
They go for a walk with them.

DEAR PARENTS!
IT WILL BE A LITTLE TIME AND YOUR CHILDREN WILL BECOME STUDENTS.
TEXTBOOKS WILL BE THEIR PERMANENT COMPANION FOR LONG YEARS…
Our advice will help you to work with textbooks.

HOW TO TEACH A CHILD TO SAVE BOOKS?
It is necessary to follow the rules for this:
1. Do not make notes, inscriptions, drawings in the book.
2. Do not read while eating.
3. Do not bend the sheets, use a bookmark.
4. Place the book only on a clean table.
5. Do not scatter books, keep them in one place.
6. Timely provide “first aid” to sick books.

“What questions should a child be asked while looking at and reading a book?”
1. “What is in this picture?”
2. “Look at the picture and think about what kind of story you can make from it.”
3. “What, looking at the picture, did you want to tell first of all, about what in detail?”
4. “How did she cheer, upset or surprise you?”
5. “How will you finish the story about her?”
6. “What words (meaning epithets, comparisons) need to be remembered to make the story interesting?”
7. Suggest a situation: “I will start the story, and you continue. And now you start, and I will continue. How would you rate me and why?”
“How to discuss a read work with a child?”
1. Find out words that are difficult for the child before reading or during reading.
2. Ask if you liked the piece? How?
3. What new, interesting things did he learn while reading?
4. Ask the child to tell about the main character, the main event of the story, fairy tale, poem.
5. How is nature described in the book?
6. What words and expressions did he remember?
7. What did the book teach him?
8. Invite the child to draw a picture for an episode they like. Learn the passage by imitating the voice of the characters in the work

In our group, the lesson “Young Researcher” was held, children are brought up with observation, a desire to do experiments.

Is the child ready for school?

Conversation on questions

At the beginning of the conversation, you can ask a series of questions that will help determine how the child is oriented in the environment, determine his stock of knowledge and attitude to school.

Give your last name, first name, patronymic.
Name the surname, name, patronymic of mother, father.
How old are you?
Where do you live? State your home address.
What are your parents’ jobs?
Do you have a sister, brother?
What are your friends’ names?
What games do you and your friends play in winter and summer?
What names of girls (boys) do you know?
Name the days of the week, the seasons.
What season is it now?
What is the difference between winter and summer?
At what time of the year do leaves appear on trees?
What domestic animals do you know?
What are the names of the children of a dog (cats, cows, horses, etc. )?
Do you want to go to school?
Where is it better to study – at home with your mother or at school with a teacher?
Why study?
What professions do you know?
What does a doctor (teacher, salesman, postman, etc.) do?

Evaluation of results . Answers corresponding to the question are considered correct: Mom works as a doctor. Father’s name is Sergey Ivanov Ivanov. Answers like: Mom works at work are considered incorrect. Papa Sergei.
If the child answered correctly 20-19 questions, then this indicates a high level, 18-11 – average, 10 or less – low.

Recommendations . Try to fix the child’s attention on what he sees around him. Teach him to talk about his experiences. Achieve detailed and detailed stories. Read children’s books to your child more often and discuss what you read with him.
