A frontend engineer is vital to the success of a website. The position of the frontend engineer focuses on making websites friendly and functional to its users. So, no matter how great the product offering on the website is, or how interesting the stories are, much of the utility of it depends on the users ability to navigate it. The frontend engineer makes websites user-friendly by creating rich and exciting features such as animations, text boxes, games, forums and even navigation. They often coordinate their efforts with the backend engineers who then process the data. To effectively perform their job, a frontend engineer must be able to analyze the needs of the website audience and develop design specifications for the marketing team and technical staff.

Additionally, frontend engineers develop templates and create pages and applications using various coding languages such as HTML, CSS and JavaScript. Besides knowing different coding languages, a frontend engineer must also be able to design interactions that web users will find attractive. They need to think like the end user and use this perspective in their designs. The frontend engineer is often part of a larger team that also includes other types of programmers and technical staff. Therefore, having the ability to work in a team environment is also a plus. The internet is always changing and applications require frequent updates. A frontend engineer can expect to perform ongoing testing and updating to the sites that it he/she is responsible for. Frontend engineers generally learn their skills through a college program in computer science or a related field.

Business Insider published a selection of salaries of various specialists on Facebook, AIN. UA reports. The numbers were gathered from open data: the company discloses salary offers in applications for visas for employees – this data is then published by the US government.

The salaries shown in the compilation are relevant both for foreign employees who moved to the US at the invitation of Facebook, and for Americans in the state, since the law obliges the company to pay foreigners the same as US citizens, BI notes.

what makes a good software engineer? (plus salary) • BUOM

By Indeed Editorial Team

August 5, 2021

Software engineers are professionals who develop and code software. Possessing the appropriate transferable skills can help an engineer build reliable, high-quality software and applications and be more visible in the field. Understanding the skills that make a good software engineer can help you determine what you can learn to advance in your career. In this article, we will discuss what makes a good software engineer, explain what these professionals do, explore the skills they have, and look at the salary and working conditions of a software engineer.

What makes a good software engineer?

Being a good software engineer can involve many hours of work experience, education, and development of specific skills. They may take on a variety of responsibilities, including light project management or leadership tasks, and they may use their training and skills to work with teams and clients. Talented engineers must have good coding and algorithm skills in order to create high quality software for various companies and organizations.

To become a good software engineer, it is important to develop your skills and practice typical job duties. To achieve these goals, you can get education, certification, or on-the-job training.

What does a software engineer do?

Software engineer creates, builds and codes software and applications for computers or mobile devices. They usually develop software to meet the specific needs of clients and companies. For example, if a company needs an inventory software that can automatically place orders when inventory gets low, company executives can hire a software engineer to create custom software for the business.

What soft skills do good software engineers need?

Good software engineers have important interpersonal skills that they learn through experience and training. Here are some examples of soft skills that can help them succeed at work:

Reliability

One of the most important social skills for a software engineer is reliability. When a client hires a software engineer to build software, the company depends on the engineer to deliver on that promise. Reliability means that the software engineer consistently meets or exceeds expectations, produces high-quality results, and is easy to contact during the development process. This helps the engineer develop a reputation for being reliable, honest, and conscientious in their work, which can help create a more positive professional image.

Honesty

Honesty is another soft skill that a good software engineer should have. Honesty is the ability to tell the truth, even if it is a difficult topic. For example, if a software engineer expects a delay on a project, an honest assessment of project completion can help the customer have more confidence in the engineer’s words. Honesty also means building quality products and delivering the product the customer wants. Honesty helps an engineer gain customer trust and strengthen existing relationships.

Patience

Patience enables a good software engineer to take on challenges, deal with setbacks, and handle customer requests during a large project. Several changes can occur during the software development process, which requires patience both in the process and in relation to the customer. Showing patience can show an engineer’s adaptability to change and highlight his emotional intelligence. An engineer with patience can earn the client’s respect and create a sense of trust between him and the client, potentially creating further employment opportunities.

Creativity

Good engineers are creative to stand out from the competition. Creativity helps engineers develop unique programs that meet or exceed customer needs, and helps engineers innovate in their work. With creative thinking, engineers can develop new software and earn higher wages based on their projects and the client’s willingness to pay more for creative ideas.

Accountability

Accountability is taking responsibility for one’s actions. Good software engineers take responsibility for both success and failure by maintaining a balanced approach to their work and maintaining trust between themselves and their clients. For example, if an engineer creates a unique feature in a client’s software and the client asks about it, the engineer can explain what he did and why. Accountability and honesty are often the two most important interpersonal skills of an engineer because they create a professional image of accountability to the client.

What hard skills do good software engineers need?

In addition to soft skills, software engineers need professional or industry skills to establish themselves as experts in the field. Some of the key skills a good software engineer should have are:

Front-end and back-end development skills

Software engineers with front-end development skills understand that the coding of many programs is generally meant to be understood others, not the machine itself. Knowing the functionality of the program and how the user interface of the software works is also important in understanding how to use it. In addition, the engineer has a complete understanding of how internal development works, including writing databases, machine learning, and writing APIs or application programming interfaces.

Coding language skills

Understanding programming languages and how they work is also a skill that software engineers have. Good software engineers understand how to read and write code and how code changes the functionality of software during both the back-end and front-end development stages. Common programming languages such as JavaScript, CSS, HTML, and Python may include additional training, but they can provide a varied skill set for a software engineer.

Software architecture skills

Good software engineers also have excellent software architecture skills. Software architecture describes in detail how engineers build software from simple code to functional products. It also details the hierarchy of the software, or which features of the software work together. Good software engineers know how to fix architectural problems and ensure the functionality of their software through the interconnection of each software component.

Database skills

Good software engineers also have advanced knowledge and skills in database technology to create software that integrates with established databases. Databases help manage software functionality by creating sets of information and sending or receiving information from a program to hardware or a server. Engineers learn how databases work and how to program software to integrate with those databases. They will also learn how to read feedback from databases to fix bugs or problems with new software.
