Four Oceanside schools become community schools
youtube.com/embed/dKSerJrI-SY?enablejsapi=1″/>
They are part of a $3 billion initiative coming to some California schools, aimed at meeting students’ and families needs.
Mission, Libby, Laurel elementary schools and Jefferson Middle School in Oceanside have all become community schools.
Mercedes Lovies of the Oceanside Unified School district said the idea of community schools is being embraced across the state and the country. “The idea behind it is that our schools are the heart of our communities, and that by making sure that we invest in our communities through our schools and remove barriers, especially in areas where people experience poverty or are under resourced, that we put those resources in and we remove those barriers,” she said.
The move is part of the $3 billion California Community Schools Partnership Program. Grants for community schools will be available to all school districts this month.
But Lovie said Oceanside didn’t want to wait, and set aside funds to roll out the program at the beginning of this year.
It included hiring a community school coordinator for each of the 4 community schools.
“They are from the community. They are leaders, they are managers and what their role really is, is to reach out to parents and build the capacity for the parents to be able to access those resources and also build more connections between our community resources and our schools,” she said.

Lovie said coordinators will work with parents and community partners to expand services to students.
Some of the expanded services will be offered at a new wellness center that will be coming to Jefferson Middle School.
“This wellness center will be around healthy eating, mindfulness, being able to have better exercise. It’ll be an opportunity to learn about some of the challenges people experience who are dependent on substances, help students avoid becoming dependent on substances. So that’s one,” she said. “You’ll see more health clinics, a dental screening clinic. Again bringing that right into the school.”
Nataly Sanchez, a parent at Libby Lake elementary and president of the Parent Teacher Organization, has already met with Libby’s community school coordinator and plans to get more parents and community members involved in the conversations.
“I personally have a lot of friends that don’t have students that go there anymore, but I know would love to participate. So hopefully we get enough parents and community members to join and make the difference,” she said.

Sanchez hopes bringing more sports to the schools will be a part of the community school plan. “Sports… obviously is a big change for students. We don’t live in a very nice neighborhood so we try to distract these kids from everything else and I think that having all these programs on campus will help the students and the families,” she said.
Sanchez is excited to see the community schools grow and thinks it’s a good way for the district to build trust with Oceanside parents.
Education in the USA, study and education in the USA
Los Angeles also known as L.A. and as City of Angels (“City of Angels”). The city is located in southern California, on the Pacific coast.
The population of the city is about 4 million people, with the suburbs (the so-called “Greater Los Angeles”) reaching 17 million people. It is the second most populated metropolitan area in the United States.
Los Angeles is one of the world’s largest cultural, scientific, economic and educational centers. And this city is known all over the world as one of the largest centers of the entertainment industry (cinema, music, television).
The racial makeup of the city in the early years of the 21st century was 49.0% White, 10.0% African, 0.4% Indian, 11.1% Asian, 0.3% Pacific Islander, 26.9% are representatives of other races. 48.9% of the population identified their origin as “Hispanic”.
The visiting card of this city is cinema, it is the industry of film production – Hollywood. But Los Angeles rightfully occupies an honorable place in the world musical culture. Back at 19In the 60s, the Sunset Strip became the launching pad for such bands as The Byrds, Buffalo Springfield, The Doors; the career of The Beach Boys began here. In Los Angeles, the roots of such world famous musical groups as Van Halen, Mötley Crüe, Metallica, Guns N’ Roses, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Slayer, etc. Numerous recording studios are located on the territory of the city (Warner Music Group, Capitol Records, etc.).

My husband and I often traveled along it and saw the main sights of the region. I wrote about this in a separate article. In this one, I’ll tell you what else to do in California.
Get scared of a dinosaur at Universal Studios
Universal Studios is the oldest film studio in operation. My husband and I went there in April 2019 and it was amazing. In addition to filming pavilions, there are themed attractions.
I bought tickets on the Expedia website: I found a special offer and saved almost 50 $ (3935 R) for two people from the price on the official website. A one-day ticket for tourists costs from $109 (8578 R), for California residents the prices are slightly lower. You also have to pay for parking – at least $28 (2203 R) per day.

Parking rules in the park
Universal Studio has a huge territory. It is divided into upper and lower levels with a long escalator. In order not to miss the show and keep abreast of the queues for attractions, I downloaded the official Universal Studios Hollywood app.
Park application: for iPhone and Android
Each themed area has one large attraction, the rest is scenery, benches, shops, movie characters and life-size puppets. When I was at Universal Studios, some areas, such as Jurassic Park, were closed for renovation. On this attraction, at the end of the boat ride, each lucky person will fall into the water from a height of 26 meters.

Drive along Pacific Highway 1
Pacific Highway 1 – the road from San Francisco to Los Angeles ocean with a length of almost 1000 km. It is better to go in the daytime, in clear weather and from north to south, namely from San Francisco to Los Angeles. Most of the observation decks and parking lots are located on the ocean side – you don’t have to spin every time and create a traffic jam on a narrow road. The driver is in the most disadvantageous position: he has no time to stare around. It would have been fair to change half way, but in our family I turned out to be a crook with a camera and did not give up my seat.
The iconic Bixby Bridge is one of California’s most photographed landmarks

You need to be careful on the road: there are serpentines in some sections Gasoline becomes more expensive with each stop – it is better to refuel before entering the highway The color of the water is fantastic. I’m ready to drive the Pacific Highway just for him
The route can take from 10 hours to several days, depending on how much time you allow for stops. The journey took almost 14 hours for my husband and I. We constantly stopped and gasped at the beauty.
Small and cozy cities are scattered all over the highway, where it’s great to stop by just like that, without planning anything. It will take 1-2 hours to study each. For example, the town of San Simeon is famous for its beaches with sea lions and elephants, which for some reason everyone calls fur seals. In order not to interfere with the lives of animals, walking paths have been made along the beaches.
Sea lions lie quietly and bask in the sun until someone rolls over onto the other side, hitting a neighbor. After that, org and gam begin: animals swear

Surf
The Pacific Ocean is the largest, deepest and undulating. Therefore, surfing is popular all year round in California.
The state is divided into Northern and Southern California. The main surf spots in the north are Santa Cruz and San Francisco. In the south, everyone is boarding in Los Angeles and San Diego. Malibu Beach, Venice Beach, Huntington Beach are also popular. The latter has a “Walk of Fame” for star surfers. The south side of the pier hosts the annual US Open of Surfing.
If you want to surf, I advise you to go to Santa Cruz. It is located in the north of the state. There are surf shops and themed cafes at every turn. I got the impression that here every local cuts through the waves.

USA: what you need to know before you travel
The average ocean temperature in the north is +12°C, so you can’t do without a wetsuit. In Southern California, the water is warmer – +20 °C.
Average surf lesson costs 70—100 $ (5509—7870 R), board and wetsuit are included in the price. The most popular schools are Golden Wave, Eat-sleep-surf, Go Surf, Learn To Surf.
Swimming in the ocean is considered dangerous. In 2017, due to an invasion of white sharks over 4 meters in length, swimming was banned in Santa Cruz for 4 days. In fact, the chance of being attacked by a shark is 1 in 11.5 million, and dying is 1 in 264.1 million

Spend the night in a tent in Yosemite
A 3-hour drive from San Francisco, on the western slope of the Sierra Nevada mountains, is the oldest national park in California: it was founded in 1890. On a vast territory of 3000 km 2 sequoias grow and waterfalls flow. The beauty is breathtaking – I have never seen such landscapes anywhere.
I visited Yosemite for the first time and found the weather sunny. The second time my husband and I went there for the New Year in search of snow. It was no longer as picturesque as in summer, but the views are still mesmerizing. To build a snowman, we climbed the mountains.
Both times we were scared by wild bears, but we did not meet predators, but we saw other animals. Deer, squirrels and chipmunks feel comfortable in Yosemite and roam the paths without fear of tourists.
/san-francisco/
Living in San Francisco
It costs $35 (R2754) to enter the park by car and $30 (R2361) by motorcycle. In addition, you will have to pay an entrance fee of $20 (1574 R) per person. If you wish, you can buy an annual subscription for $70 (5509R) for an unlimited number of entries.
If your goal is to visit at least 4 parks or reserves in California, it is more profitable to buy an annual Park Pass for $80 (6296 R). With it, entry to national parks and reserves is free. If you paid for the entrance to one park and within a week after the visit decided to get a Park Pass, then the first entrance fee will be included in the subscription price. It can be obtained from a ranger at the entrance to Yosemite or on the park website.
The mountains in the park continue to grow at a rate of 30 cm in 1000 years | There are many roads leading to Yosemite Valley. More than 3.5 million tourists come here every year, but the park does not seem crowded |

More than 3.5 million tourists come here every year, but the park does not seem crowded. Every time you come to Yosemite, it’s like the first. More than 1,300 km of hiking trails have been laid here
You can spend the night in a tent on the territory of the park. You can’t sleep in the car: the rangers will definitely ask you to leave Yosemite. What are the reasons for such rules, I do not know. In summer, it is better to book a campsite in advance.
Campsite map
You can bring your own tent and sleeping bags or rent them. The REI website offers a tourist package for $195 (R15,346) for two. It includes a tent, sleeping bags, pillows, trekking poles, chairs, lamps, a burner and a water filter. Renting a tent will cost $25 (1967 R) per day.
Tents, sleeping bags and bicycles are also sold in consignment stores such as Thrift store, Goodwill. If you’re lucky, you can buy goods for next to nothing, like a tent for a couple of dollars.

All parking in Yosemite is free. You can move around the park by car or by free shuttle buses. For $11.5 (905 R) you can rent a bike.

Ocean View in Monterey
The 17-Mile Road is a scenic 27-kilometer driveway along the Pacific Ocean. Entrance will cost $10 (787 R), but every cent is worth it.
The track passes the ocean, golf courses and mansions in Pacific Grove and Pebble Beach. This is the district of the rich – you just drive along someone’s houses, but the views of the ocean are mesmerizing. There are no cafes or shops along the way – only the sound of the waves, the cries of seagulls, cozy mansions and amazing nature.
The path is marked with a red dotted line

Sunbathe on a secluded beach in Davenport
Davenport Pier Beach is located opposite a concrete and cement plant in the tiny town of Davenport, 18 km from Santa Cruz. People come there on purpose because of the swings in the arches that stand in the water. Perhaps this is the most photographed place in the city.
To get to the point, you need to go through abandoned railway tracks and a small forest. There will be a steep descent to the ocean from the cliff.
To take a photo at the gate, you will have to stand in the Instagram queue
Take a walk near Lake Tahoe
Lake Tahoe is California’s calling card framed by the landscapes of the Sierra Nevada ridge. It is the second deepest lake in the United States and the eleventh in the world. Its length is 35 km and its width is 19 km.
The lake is located on the border of California and Nevada at an altitude of 1800 meters above sea level. Entrance to the territory is free. Cloudy weather is rare there: the sun shines almost 300 days a year.
Our first trip to Lake Tahoe in March 2019
There is a 100 km road around the lake. There are small parking lots and viewing platforms along the way. Holiday houses, apartments and hotels are in full operation here all year round. In summer, people on the territory swim in the lake, fish, ride bicycles, go hiking, and in winter they go skiing, sledding and snowboarding. For swimming, tourists usually choose Sandy Bay and Emerald Bay.
The nature of the northern part of the lake is practically untouched, because the coastline is on an elevation. There is a sandy beach on the southern shore, there is a convenient entry into the water. Mountain lovers usually go to the western coast: there is a ski resort here.

Healthy social climate and comfortable life: 13 reasons why I like living in the USA
On the east coast is the town of Incline Village with a convenient beach and chic nature.
I imagined that lunch in such a popular place would cost at least $20 (R1574) per person. Luckily, along the way we came across a signboard for Hunan Garden Chinese Buffet. There is a buffet: for 11 $ (865 R) you can eat as much as you want. The atmosphere is modest, but the food is delicious: rice, noodles, mussels, meat, chicken, sushi, fresh vegetables.

Go to Disneyland
A 40-minute drive from Los Angeles is the famous first Walt Disney theme park. On a vast territory of 200 hectares, there are dozens of cool rides and entertainment. For example, in Disneyland there is an adventure park – Adventure Park, and in Downtown Disney – a whole city with restaurants, bars, cinemas and show programs. Spring 2019A new Star Wars-themed zone, Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge, appeared at Disneyland.
Adventure Park Map. Disneyland is a whole world for which one day is clearly not enough. You won’t have time to see anything in a day – I advise you to come for 2-3 days Mike and Sally from Monsters Inc. Source: disneyland.disney.go.com C-3PO and R2-D2 from Star Wars. Source: disneyland.disney.go.com
Ticket price depends on the day of the week. Entrance for an adult on weekdays costs from 104 $ (8184 R), on weekends and holidays – up to 149$ (11,726 R). A ticket for a child 3-9 years old will cost 98—141 $ (7712—11,095.8367 R), up to 3 years old – free of charge. It is better to take a ticket for 2-3 days, otherwise you will not have time to see everything.
I advise you to lay down the cost of parking right away. If you arrive in your car, you will have to fork out for parking. The minimum price is $25 (1967 R) per day.
There are promotions on the Expedia website, tickets are sold cheaper The cost depends on the day of the week The more days, the better the price of the ticket
At the entrance you need to scan the ticket to the park. After that, the visitor is given a pass for the attraction: it indicates the time period in which you need to come, and it is written when the next attraction will be available. The wait can take 30 minutes or 2 hours. It sounds complicated, but it actually saves a lot of time. Instead of standing in the usual queue for an hour, it’s easier to take a ticket, take a walk and return at the appointed time.
The main disadvantage of the park is the endless lines. To save time, you can use the Fast Pass system, which gives you the right to bypass them. You will have to pay an additional $20 (1574 R) for this.
