We attended a private French immersion school before this, and I think that academically speaking, this is very similar in terms of the teaching and curriculum, only it’s free! She continues to have an IEP for processing information and the help she receives is stellar! Her grades are A’s and B’s and her confidence has also improved! Our 2 boys are doing excellent as well. As parents, one of the things we can do for our children is provide a great education. We feel we are doing that by sending our children to CMI. 8. Alum: I graduated from here in 2017. The community and staff are great, but since it’s Montessori, only the students whom have an interest in doing well, benefit from this kind of teaching. Also, since it is a charter school, we did not have many extracurricular or other non-academic programs.
   The middle school is 7th and 8th grade. In the small community, I was able to make connections and build strong bonds with my peers and teachers. The middle school is very good at preparing their students for high school. So well, actually, that the students generally have less of a struggle in high school. Unfortunately, the work load is a lot, which causes a decent amount of stress among the students, particularly when concerning group work. There is a group assignment every week, which gets stressful.     Alum: I came to this school as an incoming Junior in high school. I was a bit nervous at first but from the start, the principal and other staff kindly and happily greeted my mom and I during the interview process when I was applying to be a student here. The counselor here was very kind and informative. Every time she’d see me and other students on campus, she would pass out flyers with important information such as scholarship opportunities and job fairs. Everyone showed true interest in the students academics and welfare.     True the building is old! However I have found that every teacher there regularly goes above and beyond to ensure student success. My kids have been tutored after school, taken on multiple field trips and enrolled in both STEM and Chess clubs…all outside of school hours and on teachers own time.
    I’ve seen parents encourage their kids to curse and disrespect teachers, the SRO and to ignore homework, yet blame teachers when their child doesnt get grades they are proud of.
    Ultimately it is parents that advocate for and ensure their students have access to the education they most want them to have…blaming overworked, underpaid teachers or an aging building is the easy way out. This school is small enough for each kid to get personalized attention, but without parental support the path to success is that much harder… Read 6 reviews

   I was an 2 sport athlete there and had a wonderful experience. The diversity in this school and district is amazing. It doesn’t get any better really.
   The school is HUGE! It’s the only high school in the city. There are so many clubs and extracurricular activities that a kid will definitely find their niche!
   I’m not sure why resources and facilities has a grade of “C” on here, but Logan has some top of the line facilities.

Starting with the good, when I first entered Impact I was never used to talking in front of lots of people and had social anxiety. But at Impact we have about 4-5 big presentations each year in front of both fellow peers and families which helped me step out of my comfort zone and become more used to social interactions. Another thing I love about Impact is the way they prepare us for college. Impact helps break down the college application process for us seniors and tell us what to expect within college such as loans, majors, housing, and ect which is extremely helpful especially for those who don’t have any family who’ve gone to college to help them. Something that I would change at Impact would be to add more sports programs because at the moment it is literally at zero and for people trying to get a sports scholarship I would not recommend Impact….     Alum: I went back when it was AMS, I am glad about the renaming for the Filipino figures though! The sciences building is nicest and I had some passionate teachers (although later on, AP sciences in high school were too challenging). My math teachers were quite encouraging, too. 7th grade was the hardest year, as Core (English/Language Arts and History) increased in homework.     True the building is old! However I have found that every teacher there regularly goes above and beyond to ensure student success. My kids have been tutored after school, taken on multiple field trips and enrolled in both STEM and Chess clubs…all outside of school hours and on teachers own time.
    I’ve seen parents encourage their kids to curse and disrespect teachers, the SRO and to ignore homework, yet blame teachers when their child doesnt get grades they are proud of.
    Ultimately it is parents that advocate for and ensure their students have access to the education they most want them to have…blaming overworked, underpaid teachers or an aging building is the easy way out. He went to the elementary Fairfax campus, a smaller campus with spacious classrooms, and he has loved the bigger Selma campus too. The leadership works hard to create an accessible and friendly atmosphere for the students and parents so there is a strong sense of community. The admin is collaborative and value parent input. The teachers are nurturing and attentive and know when to give students more help or more of a challenge. There are many enrichment classes (art, music, gardening, sports teams, band), a social-emotional curriculum and clubs. While Bethesda is making a service game without a full single-player campaign, a group of enthusiasts from Radian-Helix Media are releasing a massive mod for Fallout: New Vegas on their own. Despite a small team and a modest budget, New California turned out to be quite a full-fledged chapter in the series. It plays almost the same as New Vegas, and in terms of volume and quality it is not inferior to major DLCs like Old World Blues or Dead Money. nine0003

So this mod has a great chance to be on a par with the adventures of the Courier in the Mojave Wasteland.

New History in New California

New California, originally known as Project Brazil, has been in development for over seven years, mostly by one person, Brendan Lee. Together with Radian-Helix Media, he enlisted friends and acquaintances to help develop the project, and in 2013 he released the first beta version of the mod. In it, players could complete the initial chapter in Vault 18.

On the eighth anniversary of Fallout: New Vegas, the modification is finally out, and the scale of the work done is truly amazing. The setting is the San Bernardino neighborhood, which is two-thirds the size of the Mojave Wasteland. Most of the dialogues are voiced by professional actors, and beautiful and complex cutscenes squeeze all the juice out of the outdated engine. In the first hours, it seems that you are not playing a fan-made modification, but a full-fledged numbered part of Fallout.

Union City and Vault 18 are on the edge of the New California Republic, so it has only formal control over this part of California

The plot of the mod takes place on the outskirts of the New California Republic 20 years before the start of New Vegas and is closely related to the entire Fallout series. The protagonist is a Vault 18 resident and vault ball player who, depending on his choice at the very beginning of the game, becomes either a rude, pumped-out brute or a frail scientist geek. There are only two options, and this decision significantly affects all further passage. In the character editor, you can try to make a genius out of a thug, of course, or a brutal killer out of an intellectual, but there is little sense and benefit in this. In order not to get bored in the hot Californian desert, it is better to travel with partners. There are many of them – each faction has heroes who want to keep the fugitive from the Vault company. Fortunately, quantity does not affect quality: partners are not just walking dolls that can only help in shooting and carry equipment. Each of them is a well-written character who does not hesitate to comment on events and evaluate the player’s actions. nine0003

My companion was a semi-savage named Ben from New Vegas. He smears his armor with the blood of defeated enemies, and he can’t stand NCR bureaucrats. Wandering around the Republican camp with me, Ben kept suggesting that I put poison from the sting of a radscorpion on the residents’ food. Or cut out the garrison when the soldiers go to sleep. But we kind of agreed that we would only cut the bad guys.

How about a bounty hunter, a FEV-disfigured werewolf mercenary? Or a smart super mutant who loves long philosophical monologues, talks about the meaning of life and dreams of turning all people into their own kind? The endings, one for each faction, are also definitely successful. The final part of the mod turned out to be unexpectedly grandiose: with huge battles for 40 people. Problems. Problems never change

I really don’t want to scold New California, but I still have to. One of the main problems of the mod is a huge map. At first glance, it looks ambitious, but behind this lies a meager content.

The game world is too big, and that’s the problem. All “life” is concentrated in five or six hubs of the main factions, and between them is a gray and boring desert, while in New Vegas interesting locations were at a distance of five minutes walk in any direction. There is a lack of additional content and random encounters, which makes the world outside of the main quests look inanimate and faded. nine0003

The Fallout: New California gameplay doesn’t offer anything new either. Shooting is wooden, hits are not felt, artificial intelligence does not know about the existence of shelters and does not use at least some tactics. The version of the engine has not changed since the release of Fallout 3 and became obsolete back in 2010, with the release of New Vegas.

Now, without graphic and gameplay mods, local landscapes and gunfights do not evoke any emotions. The creators saved time by using existing environment assets, however, in the whole appearance of the game world and in the gameplay as a whole, this feels secondary. nine0003

With the narration, everything is also not as good as we would like. As you progress, two problems arise: inconsistency with the Fallout lore and the poor quality of the final chapters.

For unknown reasons, here and there, unpleasant contradictions appear with the events of other games in the series. For example, Shi representatives speak Japanese, although in Fallout 2 they were descendants of the crew of the Chinese submarine Shi Huang Di, who settled in San Francisco. The second problem, unlike the first, has a clear cause. The initial chapters of New California (Vault 18 and a small area above it) were released back in 2013 as alpha. But the further the story goes, the poorer the surrounding world becomes, the less polished the plot seems to be. The final chapters for some factions are bugged in places, and there is not enough variability in them.

Apparently, the rush affected the quality. The developers really wanted to release by the eighth anniversary of Fallout: New Vegas. They succeeded, but at what cost. On the other hand, the 2.0 beta status gives hope that content will be added and most problems will be solved in the near future. nine0003

Technical implementation also suffers because of the haste. The game periodically crashes, quests are not activated, and characters fall into textures. To the credit of the developers, it should be said that the licensed parts of the series were full of bugs at the time of release. In addition, the authors of the mod did not have a huge team of testers that would catch all the critical bugs. So players are simply advised to press F5 more often and use different save slots.

At the very beginning of the game, I hacked two Protectrons and ordered them to follow me. As a result, due to a bug, they appeared in every story cutscene, blocked the view, “climbed” into other characters and spoiled the immersion with their absurdity

At the fifteenth hour of the game, you no longer notice the missing textures and get used to rebooting when the next plot trigger breaks

But the main test on the way to New California is the installation process.

The modification can be downloaded on moddb, there is also a great guide on how to launch it. Russification is here. To play, you will need an official (pirate work is not guaranteed) version of the game – and already here problems can begin. My Steam version of Fallout: New Vegas wouldn’t run due to a complicated relationship with Windows 10, then it turned out that Bethesda hadn’t updated the 4GB RAM version of New Vegas on Steam (the GOG version doesn’t have this issue). The slightest mistake at any stage of the installation will stop everything from working. I’m afraid for some, these troubles may be the reason to leave the trip to New California for later.

But it’s worth a visit no matter what.

Fallout: New California – like an old friend: with familiar and beloved virtues, and with a bunch of shortcomings that have not been corrected over time. This game is for those who miss the classic adventures, with a well-developed setting, characters and plot, and not like in Fallout 4 with dominance of action and low variability in dialogues. nine0003

New California may not be as inventive or exciting as New Vegas, but it retains the spirit of the series better and shows the post-nuclear world more honestly than all subsequent attempts by Bethesda. Except maybe Far Harbor.

Therefore, neither the meager technical implementation, nor the old engine, nor the difficulties in installation should prevent fans from immersing themselves in a full-fledged chapter of Fallout, albeit fan-made. To a world where war never changes.
