Parents Love After School with Right At School
My son will actually wake up early and ask to go in early and gets upset if I try to pick him up early. The staff is simply amazing and every week he is coming home with amazing art. Couldn’t ask for better!
— Nisha G
Our daughter is new to Audubon this year and the one aspect of her transition that’s been super smooth is her time at Right at School. The team is great, polite, nice to chat with, and most importantly…they care about the kids’ safety and well-being.
— Rahul N.
My son loves RAS and never wants to leave. The socialization is great in this time of playdates and no free play. It encourages independence and friendship.
— Nicole L.
They make a point to have engaging activities to keep the children motivated and involved. I also enjoy the convenience of having the program at my child’s school.
— Briana B.
I love everyone who is there for my children in the before and after school programs. They are understanding, caring, and I trust them. I love that my kids are happy and enjoying their time after school.
— Michelle B.

Brentwood district schools reporting COVID-19 cases – The Mercury News
With in-person classes open less than a week, dozens of students and staff at two Brentwood school districts are being quarantined after being exposed to 13 peers in elementary schools and 10 in high schools who apparently have COVID-19, authorities confirmed Monday.
Brentwood Union School District Superintendent Dana Eaton said that through contact tracing, it’s been determined that none of the 13 elementary and middle school students caught the virus on campus.
Regardless, 55 students and two staff members came into contact with the 13 infected with COVID in its schools, which opened on July 28.
The Brentwood school district’s website posted a dashboard Monday that reported 12 students and one staff member from eight of its 11 schools had COVID-19 as of 12:25 p.m. Those with COVID-19 who never came to campus were not included, officials said.
Eaton said Contra Costa Health Services has warned “we should expect positive cases in our schools” reflective of the positivity rate of their communities.
“Currently there have been 205 positive cases in Brentwood over the last 14 days, so it is to be expected that the schools will have cases,” Eaton said. “Our goal is to follow the California Department of Public Health Safety Guidance to prevent the spread of positive cases at school. ”
Contra Costa health officials said there’s not enough data yet to predict what will happen in schools, since most have not yet opened. On Monday, in response to the rapid spread of the delta variant of COVID-19, Bay Area health officials announced that everyone must wear makes inside workplaces and businesses as of midnight Tuesday, regardless of whether they’ve been vaccinated.
Liberty Union High School District Superintendent Eric Volta said he will mandate indoor masks at all times and continue to follow all the other social distancing and cleaning guidelines to prevent transmission.
The district, which opened its three high schools on Thursday, does not take temperature checks of students but is asking people to self-monitor.
The three high schools in Brentwood and Oakley reported nine students and one staff member had COVID-19, but Volta said contact tracing is still being conducted to see whether anyone was exposed to them. He did not know how yet many were quarantined.
Brentwood Councilmember Jovita Mendoza, who has a daughter enrolled in a Brentwood high school, said she is concerned about the new delta variant and hopes people will abide by the health mandates to keep schools open.
“I get the numbers every single day and we’ve had like a death a week in Brentwood recently,” she said. “So it’s really sad.”
“We want them in schools,” she added. “And I think that’s fantastic. But just be respectful of the mask mandate… If everyone did that, I think we’d, you know, keep it to a minimum.”
School officials say they are glad to be back and are following all the guidelines to prevent transmission.
Brentwood Union School District board President Scott Dudek said the COVID-19 case numbers were much better in June when the board decided to fully reopen schools.
“At this point here, we have no intention of going back to hybrid or anything like that, but obviously we’ll be watching the numbers and that decision will be made,” he said, noting the state rules that temporarily allowed hybrid and distance learning for public schools expired on June 30.
Students who don’t feel comfortable attending in-person can pursue existing independent or homeschool study, officials said.
In nearby Antioch, Superintendent Stephanie Anello said nearly 100 students from Oakley, Lafayette and Walnut Creek have expressed interest in the district’s newly created Thomas Gaines Virtual Academy and she expects to have about 500 enrolled by Tuesday.
“I am truly grateful we had the foresight to form the virtual academy when we knew that many parents found it to work better for their students and families and that many parents may not be ready to send their children back to in-person learning,” she said. “To help other districts, we are trying to help their families who may want a virtual option as well.”
Both Brentwood superintendents said they’re optimistic they’ll be able to keep their schools open despite the spread of the delta variant.
“Actually, if there has been one thing proven right regarding the CDC and CDPH guidance is that schools need to be open for business and students need to be in class and with their peers,” Volta said.
“I truly hope we don’t go backward,” he added. “As a high school district with high school-aged students, all are eligible to be vaccinated. That is the best chance for students not to miss school and activities.”
Eaton agreed that his district will do all it can to keep schools open and won’t consider closing unless health officials recommend it.
“We are hopeful that our community will help us keep all schools open by following the CDPH guidance, staying home when they are sick and getting vaccinated,” Eaton said. “We are happy to be back full-time. We want to do everything we can to keep it that way… We are all in this together.“

After 15 cases were reported, here’s what Brentwood Union School District is doing to prevent the spread of positive COVID-19 cases at its schools.
BRENTWOOD, Calif. (KGO) — After a year of distanced learning for Brentwood Union School District students and staff were back together in the classroom once again.
But the welcome home was disrupted just three days into the new school year as COVID-19 once again reared its head.
Fifteen positive cases amongst students and staff were reported within the district’s 11 schools.

“We’re scared, but at the same time we think it’s important for kids to go back to school,” said Wedelio Buyan, a parent.
Buyan hopes this trend doesn’t continue so his seventh grader won’t have to go back to online learning.
Molly Willbergh says it’s concerning, but she’s confident in the school district’s plan to keep her little one safe.
“I think the precautions they have in place, they’re masking indoors, they’re taking all the necessary steps, they’re cleaning regularly, so I feel really safe with my kids being there,” Willbergh said.

Thanks in part to this plan, the district says contact tracing showed none of the reported cases were contracted at any one of their elementary or middle schools.
Superintendent Dana Eaton provided ABC7 News with the protocols that go into place following a positive case:

Superintendent Eaton also said in a statement: “Our goal is to follow the California Department of Public Health (CDPH) Safety Guidance to prevent the spread of positive cases at school. This includes indoor masking by all regardless of vaccination status, hand washing and cleaning and sanitation protocols.”
The district says the schools will remain open despite the cases.
But if they want to stay open, UCSF Infectious Disease Specialist Dr. Peter Chin-Hong says the community needs to do their part.
“At the end of the day, vaccinations, for those eligible, is still going to be the best way of combating this,” Dr. Chin-Hong said. “If you want to protect the kids under 12, you need to make the ring of vaccinated adults around them. Most of the transmissions in the past year in the United States have been from adults to kids.”

Modern development began after the creation of the 600 acre (2. 4 km 2 ) Pacific branch of the National Home for Disabled Soldiers and Sailors in the 1880s gg. Outside the west gate of this facility, a small community developed and was named Westgate . Very high fire danger zone designation
Main article: Bel Air Fire
The California State Fire Department has officially declared all of Brentwood a very high fire danger zone from Mulholland to Sunset Boulevard due to the long, continuous boundary between the city and wilderness on the Brentwood hillsides, which has resulted in numerous fires over the years, devastating entire quarters and requiring numerous evacuations. For this reason, the Brentwood community is strongly in favor of stopping further development in the hillsides and canyon areas.
November 6, 1961, a construction crew working in Sherman Oaks in the San Fernando Valley north of Brentwood on the far side of Santa Monica Mountain noticed smoke and flames in a nearby trash heap. Within minutes, Santa Ana winds gusts of up to 60 mph (100 km/h) sent burning bushes up and over the ridge into Brentwood.
More than 300 police officers helped evacuate 3,500 residents during the 12-hour blaze, and about 2,500 firefighters fought the blaze by pumping water from nearby pools to put out the blaze. The fires smoldered for several days. Even as firefighters fought what was to be a disaster in Bel Air, another fire broke out in Santa Ynez Canyon to the west. This blaze was contained the day after almost 10,000 acres (40 km 2 ) and nine buildings and are burning within a mile of Bel Air and Brentwood. The fires were the fifth largest fire in the nation’s history at the time, burning 16,090 acres (65 km 2 ), destroying over 484 homes and 190 other structures and causing approximately $30 million in damage.

Homelessness, West Los Angeles, Virginia and Virginia, master plan redevelopment
Although the annual count of homeless people in Los Angeles County rarely counts more than 50 people in Brentwood as homeless, they invariably reside in a permanent homeless camp on San Vicente Boulevard, next to the West Los Angeles Veterans Affairs property. Most of the homeless are veterans. While VA does have affordable beds and treatment programs, many veterans find it difficult to take the first step to accept VA’s help for a number of reasons, including a deep distrust of VA, dishonorable layoffs that prevent them from receiving services, mandatory sober living environments on VA campus. In 2013, the Brentwood Community Council took the lead in creating safe parking for veterans and safe camping programs that allow veterans to take a “middle step” between being homeless and accepting full VA assistance. These programs were successful and expanded over time. The veterans believed that Virginia had violated its housing obligations and successfully sued the Virginia administration, proving that multiple leases on Virginia property had been used for fraud. Several people went to jail, including a former Virginia executive. in veterans’ civil lawsuit against VA, a $1 billion West Los Angeles area redevelopment master plan, including over 2,000 housing units, was approved by Congress in 2019year and come into force at the end of 2020.

Education in California: education system, schools, universities, costCalifornia is one of the largest and richest American states. Tens of thousands of foreigners and Russian students come here every year for work or study. There are more than three hundred educational institutions in California, including private schools, training centers, colleges, institutes, universities for secondary or higher education. Students of any age can start their studies in California – there are enough educational programs for schoolchildren, students and adult students.
California Education System – Secondary and Higher Education AbroadEvery state in America has its own educational policy, and California is no exception. As in many foreign countries, there are educational institutions for different categories of students – for children, schoolchildren or students, for Russian students or foreigners. Schooling is compulsory for local residents and visiting students and starts at the age of 6 (there are also pre-school groups for preparation). For admission, you do not need to take exams, only foreign students need to pass an English proficiency test – California English Language Development Test. The best private schools in California are located in Los Angeles, San Francisco, San Jose, San Diego, Pato Alto and beyond. The average cost of education among private educational institutions will be about 13-18 thousand dollars for one academic year, and the price of education in elite boarding schools can reach up to 20-30 thousand dollars. Private educational institutions occupy a special place in the educational system of the state. Institutions of this type actively implement the idea of a variety of educational programs and the creation of conditions for the comprehensive development of students. Private and public higher schools are required to be accredited by agencies with certain powers in the territory of the selected state. The local system of higher education is based on the California Master Plan for Higher Education, which was adopted back in the 60s of the last century. Over time, the California structure became one of the best throughout the country, so other American states soon adopted a similar scheme. The structure of higher education in California consists of several levels. The first is community colleges. More than 100 institutions of this format operate here, where more than one and a half million students study annually. Doing well at a community college gives the student the opportunity to secure a place at a public university. The system of transition without additional exams from one educational institution to another is called transfer – it is popular not only in the United States, but also in many countries abroad, including European countries. The main advantage of the transfer is that foreign students can use it! The opportunity to make this transition allows you to significantly save on tuition fees abroad. After completing a community college, the next stage is higher education: it can be a bachelor’s degree or a graduate specialization. After completing a bachelor’s degree, a young person is considered a full-fledged holder of higher education and can already begin a career path in the chosen specialty. The next stage of higher education is a master’s degree or PhD: these two paths are chosen by students interested in development related to scientific activities. Also, the presence of a master’s degree, for example, makes it possible to occupy a managerial position when entering a job. School education in the USA – system and featuresThe system of secondary education in the USA is not at all like the Russian one. Not only the duration of training differs (12 versus our 11 years), but also pedagogical methods, curricula and much more. Understand what is school education in the United States. Methods and programsThere is no single state education standard in the USA. The formation of the curriculum in the most general form (the list of basic disciplines, the dates of the beginning and end of the academic year) is carried out by the Council of Education under the state administration. At the same time, school employees determine all the specifics, such as teaching aids, the volume and nature of the material taught, on their own. This means that each educational institution is free to manage the time of its students as it sees fit. A variety of programs and teaching methods in American schools, on the one hand, makes it possible to choose an educational institution that meets the individual needs of the student. On the other hand, the breadth of choice greatly complicates the life of parents and, at times, only makes it difficult to find a place to study. Form of ownershipSchool education in America is represented by 2 types of educational institutions: public and private schools. Most of the country’s population studies in municipal institutions, since education is free for local residents. The government of the country is in charge of financing such institutions. Private schools, which cost a lot of money, are self-supporting. Due to objective reasons, free public schools, as a rule, cannot boast of either a particularly high academic level or an advanced material and technical base. In this sense, the private sector has more opportunities, and the quality of education in them is usually better. International students can attend both public and private schools in the US. In both cases, you will have to pay for education – there is no free education for non-citizens of the country in the States. Of course, the cost of education in a public school in the United States is much lower than in a private one. However, it should be borne in mind that American universities are more willing to take graduates of private boarding schools. A’s from a public school won’t make much of an impression on admissions committees, unlike, say, A’s from a prestigious private school. StructureSecondary education in the US has a 3-level structure. At the age of 5-6 years, the child enters elementary school, where he studies until the 6th grade. The elementary school program usually includes several academic disciplines (arithmetic, reading, writing, basic sciences), as well as music, physical education and drawing. Middle school starts at 11-12 years old. Students are required to study mathematics, English, history, natural sciences. In addition, each student is offered 2-3 electives (foreign languages, art, etc.) Even more freedom in terms of choice of subjects is provided by high school. From 9th to 12th grades (14-18 years old), students independently form their own curriculum, there are even more additional subjects. As a rule, by this time, children already more or less imagine what they want to do in the future, and choose those disciplines, knowledge of which is necessary for entering a university. For the last 2 years of high school, teens prepare for the final SAT test, based on the results of which they are admitted to college, and, if desired, attend advanced courses in some of the subjects – Advanced Placement (AP). The AP program usually corresponds to the program of the first year of study at the university, so after admission, the university may count this course as already completed. It is worth noting that the division into elementary, middle and high school is not conditional in the States. Unlike Russian schools, where both first-graders and graduates are under the same roof, in the USA each age group is entitled to a separate educational institution – with its own building, teaching staff and administration. Extra-curricular activitiesThe purpose of the secondary education system in the United States is to bring up a versatile person with an active life position. Therefore, in American schools, much attention is paid to extracurricular activities of the student. Children spend a lot of time in school – and it’s not just about the number of lessons. Children are actively involved in sports: physical education lessons, similar to those that take place in a Russian school, end with American students in middle school. High school students do not have “phys-ry”. Each high school student chooses the most interesting sport for him and goes in for it quite professionally. Fortunately, the technical equipment of educational institutions (gymnastics halls, courts, football and basketball fields) allows for training at the highest level. In addition to sports, there are usually many clubs based on interests at the American school: someone plays in the theater, another visits a debate club, and a third studies the basics of painting. But homework in the States is given a little. At the same time, often, its implementation also requires the child to be present at school – the guys prepare reports and work on creative projects, sitting in the school library. Performance monitoringIn America, the letter system of grading is used: A, B, C, D, F, where A is the equivalent of the Russian “five” and F is the “two”. By the way, each of the ratings, except for F, can be accompanied by a + or – sign. Based on school grades, an average GPA score (grade point average) is formed. This indicator is usually required when entering a university. Another important form of performance monitoring in the US school system is the test. American children get acquainted with the annual testing procedure towards the end of elementary school. Test results affect how prestigious the next educational institution will be in a child’s life. The better the student studied in middle school, the higher the class will be high school. The higher the scores in high school, the higher the GPA, which means more chances to get into a good college. In addition, tests (which, by the way, are developed by the city or state board of education) are not only a way to assess the performance of students, but also a test of the effectiveness of the school staff. The system of secondary education in the United States is mainly aimed at preparing the child as effectively as possible for studying at the university. That is why studying at an American school is a great start for children from abroad who would like to get a higher education in the States.
