These centers are a great alternative to your traditional babysitter, whether you’re looking to have a kid-free night at home or drop your tyke off for daytime committments when your favorite neighborhood sitter isn’t available.

1. The Workaround Collective

Need to get some work done? Don’t we all! This ingenious company offers not only a workspace, but a sense of community that, unlike many workspaces, actually includes your kids. Here, parents have access to a member-run babysitting exchange in which coworkers have the opportunity to coordinate drop-off playdates with each other while they get work done, run errands, etc. Workaround Collective members are welcome to use a desk for a total of 15 hours per week, a perfect fit for parents transitioning back from maternity leave or launching/continuing freelance careers. Parents must agree to babysit other collective members’ kids to participate in the child swap, and there are plenty of community get-togethers so parents can really get to know each other. There are also options for if you just want to use the desk, or just want to participate in the babysitting exchange. Rough Draft, 402 Hooper St, Brooklyn (workaround.nyc). Deskshare/babysitting exchange $150/month; Village Only Option (no desk, just kid swap) $25/month.

2. NY Kids Club Pajama parties + drop-in classes

Thirteen locations in the five boroughs make NY Kids Club a no-brainer pick for drop-in daycare. Families can sign their children up on the fly for seasonal afternoon drop-off classes (generally 45 minutes), and there’s plenty on offer: from straightforward arts & crafts to gymnastics to hip-hop dance, tykes are sure to be making the most of their time in “da club.” If it’s evening care/kiddie fun you’re after, check out NY Kids Club’s Pajama Parties, which run from 6–8:30pm and include gym activities, art, games and a disco dance party (plus dinner!). 3. Project Playdate

One of the most unique picks on our list, Project Playdate curates action-packed, drop-off playdates for two or more children for 3–5 hours (you can keep your playdate closed and with just kids you know, or open it up to the local community and meet someone new). Playdate project also offers pajama parties, which are three-hour playdates on Friday and Saturday evenings open to kids ages 2 to 6. This should go without saying, but all Project Playdate cargivers have extensive backgrounds in childcare and/or child development. 4. Bright Horizons

While this option shouldn’t replace your regular picks for child care, Bright Horizons does serve the local community with engaging group activities and watchful child care experts to hook you up when you’re in a bind. 5. Parent-Free Pajama Party, NY City Explorers

From 6–9pm on most Fridays, parents can drop their kiddos off at NY City Explorers for a sleepover-esque adventure complete with pizza dinner and a movie (think flicks like The Land Before Time, Kiki’s Delivery Service, The Jungle Book or Aladdin). All Pajama Party chaperones are CPR and First Aid-trained, reference checked and background checked. Become a licensed or listed child care provider

If you are interested in becoming a Licensed Registered Child Care provider eligible to provide care for up to 10 children including your own, the first step is to take an information class called Introduction to Registered Family Child Care. Part One of Registered Family Child Care is offered online through Portland State University.

Part Two of Introduction to Registered Family Child Care is offered at any CCR&R. After completing Part One, contact us at Child Care Resource and Referral of Clackamas County to register for the next session.

If you have been providing child care or worked in a relevant field for a year, you are eligible to become a Licensed Certified Family provider eligible to provide care for up to 16 children and employ your own staff.

To be eligible for payment from the Department of Human Services (DHS), for example through the Employment-Related Day Care program (ERDC) subsidy, you must be listed with DHS. To be listed with DHS complete and submit DHS’s Child Care Provider Listing form. The listing process must be completed before you provide care.

Anyone is able to provide care for up to 3 children (not including your own children) without being licensed. However, if a family is eligible for DHS subsidy child care payment, the provider needs to apply to be listed with DHS and after a few steps take DHS Orientation at a CCR&R. The Early Learning Hub of Clackamas County works to streamline systems that are easier to navigate for families, increase access to and enrollment in quality childcare and preschool, and improve the quality of early learning programs overall, with a focus on children and families who have been historically underserved and under-represented.

Through a grant from the state, Preschool Promise offers free, full-day preschool for 3 and 4-year-old children from income-eligible families, in a variety of classroom settings throughout Clackamas County. A quality preschool experience makes a major difference in a child’s kindergarten preparation for success.

Oregon’s Spark is a program that raises the quality and consistency of child care and early learning programs across the state. The Quality Rating System recognizes, rewards and builds on what early learning and development programs are already doing well. It helps ensure children in Spark programs are ready for kindergarten by connecting programs and providers with free tools, financial incentives and professional advice that they can put into practice with confidence.

Portland State University’s Oregon Center for Career Development (OCCD) provides leadership in the development and operation of integrated and statewide professional development standards and systems. OCCD promotes professional development to achieve high quality care and education for children, and creates and supports training and education.

You may be able to deduct part of your child care expenses from federal and state taxes. File federal and state tax returns to receive these benefits. For more information contact the Internal Revenue Service or the Oregon Department of Revenue.

Federal and state tax incentives exist for employers who offer child care subsidies, on-site child care or dependent care assistance plans (pre-tax dollars set aside for child care). For more information, check with your employer.

Some preschools offer lower cost to parents who participate in program activities. Visit the Parent Child Preschools Organization website for more information on co-operative preschools.

Depending on income, families may be eligible for lower fees based on sliding fee scales or multiple children offered by child care providers. Families may also be eligible to apply for scholarships offered by child care providers.

The Family Child Care program is a professionally managed network of adult individuals certified to provide child care in on-post government quarters for children 4 weeks to 12 years of age and provide programs such as extended hours [for parents who must go on temporary duty (TDY) or field assignments] or special needs care. FCC homes may also offer hourly care services, part-day care, or before and after school care. FCC providers are certified after meeting basic regulatory requirements and their homes are regularly monitored by FCC staff and inspected for fire, health and safety compliance. In addition, FCC providers work to obtain National Association for Family Child Care (NAFCC) accreditation using the same level of standards as CDCs and are encouraged to participate in special activities.

We provide on-site child care, ages 6 weeks to 12 years, during meetings and social gatherings for the Fort Hood community.

Outreach Services will provide childcare training to volunteers from the military unit or organization. Therefore, the program is designed to allow the exchange of free and temporary childcare services during unit sessions when the demand for childcare is high, or when CYS is not available.

Parents and guardians of children in Parents On Site Care must be attending the same on-post function, and must remain at the site while their child is under volunteer care. Units that are interested in the Parents On Site Care program may call Outreach Services

During the day, your baby will be surrounded by love and care of our assistants and educators (higher pedagogical education and work experience of 5 years). Our “Montessori Center and Kindergarten” is named after the Novgorod boy Onfim, whose birch bark letters (XIII century) testify to the widespread literacy in Ancient Russia, that they were taught to read and write from childhood. “When our ancestors, the Swedes, carved runes on stones, the Slavs were already writing letters to each other” (quote from a Swedish newspaper). But in our time, much that is associated with this name is designed primarily for adults and schoolchildren, and he was a preschooler. So we took on the task of opening the world of Onfim for preschoolers. This means that we have taken responsibility for the transfer of the spiritual testament of our ancestors to modern children, which we are doing, implementing our unique program “Birch bark heritage of Russia to our Children” , which runs like a red thread through all the activities of children in kindergarten:
– Children’s activities and games in the interactive museum “Onfim’s Upper Room” allow children to touch the culture of the Russian people, thanks to which ideas are formed about the life of ancestors, about folk culture, about traditions and customs, there is an awareness of involvement in one’s people.
– “Lessons of Kindness” is a spiritual journey for children, in which we strive to help the child retain the innate ability to love and learn to express love in the physical world, as kindness and generosity, care and mercy, compassion, peace and joy. And we have a great opportunity to do this on the basis of Russian literature and art.
– Musical classes, entertainment, matinees and folk holidays, games – everything that in the folk tradition has the character of a game.

Montessori Center and Kindergarten “Onfim” is a “space of love”, because only in it you can bring up a happy person! Our beloved Onfim!

15 years have passed since my first daughter and I crossed the threshold of this wonderful house. She is now a student. The second daughter goes to school already in the 6th grade. But until now I am grateful to Elena Alexandrovna Samarokova, the creator, inspirer, guardian angel of our second “home”, who managed to create Onfim, gather under her wing experienced teachers who are unusually careful and accurate, but at the same time effectively engaged in the development of children. And this is all taking into account the individual characteristics of each child. Onfim was not just a kindergarten for us. This is a place of kindness, love and care. This is the place where we still come to visit to see people dear to us who have become part of our life, our family. Now I can confidently say that the system on the basis of which the work in Onfim is built is an unusually wise combination of the method of Maria Montesorri and the best traditions of Russian pedagogy. Unfortunately, due to circumstances beyond our control, we could not go to Onfim for 3 months. We went to a paid garden next to the house. He was good, had his pluses, but the child in the evening was like an overwrought top. This garden did not suit us at all in terms of temperament.
At the beginning of the year we were able to return to Onfim again, which we are very happy about! The child is calm and happy, gets up with pleasure in the morning in the garden!

My grandson goes to the second grade, but he often remembers preschool time. It so happened that he managed to visit two gardens, but Onfim remained just a home for us. In the morning, when coming to Onfim’s team, the children were always met by teachers and educators with a smile and such a greeting, as if this garden only existed for him alone? “It’s all here for you.” The garden is headed by a very bright and spiritual person Elena Alexandrovna, and the teachers and tutors are chosen by her very carefully and they have been working together for more than a year. Parents and grandmothers who bring their children in the morning, even if they are in a hurry, still linger, at least for some time in this warm, homely environment. If we had many such kindergartens, where an individual approach to the character, abilities and inclinations of the child is such as in Onfim, then I am sure society would be different . .. Into our native bright lands, into our sunny expanse
A rattlesnake crawled in, a vile thief got in.
He leaves a trail of forged boots on the grass.
The spider sign on the sleeve is soaked with fresh blood…
…Medieval savage, mad reptile
He pulls his tentacles towards Moscow, he crawls into Leningrad.
We have seen thunderstorms and clouds over the country more than once.
