    • Tuesday Drives Surpass 100 Drives!

      October 5

WOW, over 100 and still going strong! Thank you St. Thomas for your kindness and generosity to our neighbors and family at our weekly drives. We started back in March of 2020 in response to wanting to do something to assist our neighbors when so much uncertainty and fear surrounded us! The drives gave us an opportunity to share what we could. It also gave us an opportunity to gather to see one another. We gathered with no masks, with masks, with social distance, in the rain, in the snow and the sunshine. We collected in the parking lot, in Father’s garage, in front of the church and in the Gathering Hall. Some came with their four legged friends or with a friend. Some of you joined us once or twice, others have never missed a drive! Thank you, St. Thomas, for giving witness to what being a Roman Catholic means. Sharing with our homebound, reminding others that they are thought of, helping families and veterans on a tight budget, and allowing our young church to know what it means to be the hands and feet of Christ in our world. Click here for 100 pictures from our drives!

KeryFlex Nail Restoration System

The KeryFlex toenail restoration system developed by Pod-ADvance, Inc. It is a composite patented resin gel, which is insoluble to water. It seals the prepared nail bed, making it more resistent to recurrent infections. It is available in three colors: pastel, clear and natural, and works by creating a flexible, nonporous artificial nail, allowing remaining natural nail to re-grow! KeryFlex toenail restoration provides an immediate cosmetic solution to those suffering with toenail infections or malformations. It looks and feels completely natural, while delivering a variety of hues to match your natural nail bed. It is unaffected by acetone, nail polish, and detergents. The Keryflex System doesn’t irritate the skin, as it only sticks to the callous cells of the nail or the papillary roots. It will not bond to skin, allowing a natural edge to be fabricated.

Bunions

A bunion (also referred to as hallux valgus or hallux abducto valgus) is often described as a bump on the side of the big toe. But a bunion is more than that. The visible bump actually reflects changes in the bony framework of the front part of the foot.

Ingrown Toenails

Ingrown nails, the most common nail impairment, are nails whose corners or sides dig painfully into the soft tissue of nail grooves, often leading to irritation, redness, and swelling. The big toe is the most common location for this condition, but other toes can also become affected.

Heel Pain

Heel pain is most often caused by plantar fasciitis, a condition that is sometimes also called heel spur syndrome when a spur is present. Heel pain may also be due to other causes, such as a stress fracture, tendonitis, arthritis, nerve irritation, or, rarely, a cyst.

Orthotics

A prescription foot orthosis is an in-shoe brace which is designed to correct for abnormal foot and lower extremity function (the lower extremity includes the foot, ankle, leg, knee, thigh and hip).

Fungal Toenails

Toenail fungus, or onychomycosis, is an infection underneath the surface of the nail caused by fungi. When the tiny organisms take hold, the nail often becomes darker in color and smells foul.

Hammertoes

Hammertoes are a contracture of the toes as a result of a muscle imbalance between the tendons on the top and the tendons on the bottom of the toe.

Delmar, New York

Delmar is Hamlet in the Borough of Bethlehem, in Albany County, New York, United States. It is a suburb of the neighboring city of Albany. The community is bisected by New York Route 443 (Delaware Avenue), Main Street, Main Street, and the Albany Route.

A census-designated place (CDP) was established in 1980 by the US Census Bureau to compile a table of the population that the census defined as the boundaries of an urbanized area in and around Delmar. The population was 8 292 people. 2000 Census, [1] but it was not included as a CDP in the 2010 Census. [3] [4]

Delmar Railway Olbani and Saskuekhanna, 1907.

Nathaniel Adams moved to the area in 1836 and built a large hotel and other improvements two years later. When the first Russian post office was built in 1840, he was the first postmaster. [7] Hotel Adams was the Bethlehem City Hall at 1950-1980s [8] In 1841, Nathaniel donated an acre of land for a chapel that was to be built so that the Dutch Reformed Church would not have to travel to Unionville to attend worship, although this new church continued to be subordinate to the Union Reformed Church. In 1847, members of the Reformed Church at Adams Station petitioned to form their own organization separate from the Union, and this was granted in 1848 by both the Union Reformed Church and the Albany Classis. [9] For Nathaniel Adams, Delmar received his early name Adamsville. [7]

1891 Delmar map

After Adamsville got its own post office, the post office began to be confused with the city of Adams, New York which also had Adams Village. The name of the post office was changed to Adams Station in an attempt to clear up this confusion. The Albany and Susquehanna Railroad, which had a station at Adams Street north of Kenwood Avenue, however decided to switch from Adamsville to Delmar . In 1892, a petition from local residents was accepted to change the post office to the Delmar post office. [8]

The Patterson Farm, US Post Office, and Van Derheyden House are listed on the National Register of Historic Places. [10]

Geography

Delmar’s boundaries are undefined, although the unincorporated village is generally considered to be at the intersection of Kenwood and Delaware avenues. According to the 2000 US Census, the CDP has a total area of 4,382 square miles (11. 35 km 2 ), the whole earth. [11] [1] However, CDP boundaries may change from census to census. As of 2000 the boundary followed Norman Murder north and then for the western boundary it moved south on McCormack Road North to Cherry Ave Extension (NY 140) where it turns left and then right onto McCormack Road. At Bridge Avenue in the nearby hamlet of Slingerlands, the CDP border turns left and then right onto Albany County Route 52 (Cherry Ave/Elm Ave). The boundary then turns east (left) onto the Delmar Bypass (NY 32) to Elsmere Avenue (NY 335) from where it then heads north. At the intersection of Ellesmere Avenue and Delaware Avenue, the boundary turns east to later. At Salisbury Road, the Delmar CDP boundary forms a small enclave, turning left onto the indicated road and then right onto Normanside Avenue, then turning onto Euclid Avenue, it heads southeast again to Delaware Avenue. After another short run down Delaware Avenue, the border turns left onto Normanskill Boulevard across from Delaware Plaza. After turning right into Bethlehem Yard, the boundary then follows a straight northeast line to return again to Normanskill. [12]

Several small streams and streams run through Delmar, usually north of Delaware Avenue, they flow north to the Normans kill; south of Delaware Avenue is the Dowers Murder which is a south-flowing tributary of the Vloman Kill.

    Del Mar-Va Express

B Del Mar Va Express was named a Pennsylvania Railroad passenger train that at its peak went from New York to the southernmost point of the Delmarva Peninsula, Cape Charles, Virginia. Initiated in 1926, the north-south train run through the Delaware contrasted with the main passenger traffic through the Delaware, being a short run through the cities in the upper Delaware, mainly Wilmington. Most importantly, the train served as a more direct route from New York and Philadelphia to Norfolk, Virginia by ferrying from Cape Charles across Chesapeake Bay to Norfolk, a route that bypassed Baltimore and Washington, D.C. This saved time compared to traveling through PRR, Atlantic Coast and Norfolk and Western trains via Washington DC to Norfolk. AT Del Mar Va trip, including ferry, was 11 hours from New York; and the longer overland route through Washington was 13 hours and 40 minutes. [1]

The train replaced an earlier short-lived train, Old Point, in the 1890s from Philadelphia to Cape Charles. At Del Mar Wa Express deviated south from the Washington-Philadelphia Pennsylvania RR route at Wilmington. From there they went straight south on the main line of the Pennsylvania Railroad subsidiary. the New York, Philadelphia and Norfolk Railroad through the interior cities of Delaware, namely Clayton, Dover, Harrington, Greenwood, Seaford and Delmar; in Maryland: Salisbury, Princess Anne and Pocomoke City; and finally reached Cape Charles, from where the ferry company N.Y.P.&N RR took passengers to Norfolk. [2] Beginning in the 1940s, the PRR began to rely solely on the Virginia Ferry Corporation to transport passengers from Cape Charles to Norfolk. This new service has been shown to save time on multiple channels up to 40 minutes. [3] From 1942 to 1947, the train’s northern terminus was extended from Philadelphia to New York. [4]
