Pizza Hut Delivery Driver: I was a delivery driver. I delivered pizzas, and during down time, we made pizzas and washed dishes.

Interviewer: What was the work environment like?
Pizza Hut Delivery Driver: It was pretty nice. Nice people to work with. Friendly, and you could joke around with them. The managers – they were pretty nice – seemed like pretty cool guys. So, it was a nice environment.

Interviewer: Please describe a typical day as an employee.
Pizza Hut Delivery Driver: Show up, have about five minutes of downtime. They give you money to cash in and stuff. Like I said, if you didn’t have any deliveries, you would wash dishes and stuff until you had deliveries. If there weren’t any dishes to wash, you could help make pizzas, and that’s pretty much how the whole day went.

Interviewer: How would you describe the application and interview process?
Pizza Hut Delivery Driver: I came in, he asked, “Are you a valid driver?” I said yes. He asked, “Do you have a good driving record?” I said yes. So, he tells you then that he’s going to look at your driving record, he’s going to pull it all up, and stuff like that. And that was pretty much it. They wanted to make sure you had good driving skills.

Interviewer: What set you apart from the other candidates?
Pizza Hut Delivery Driver: Before I worked at Pizza Hut, I had worked at Jimmy John’s. I loved delivering. You just get to be outside all the time, you get to interact with people, you get to talk to them, and that makes your job exciting, instead of just standing inside of a building the whole time. “Okay, take your order and do this.” You’re just doing the same thing over and over and standing in one spot inside. I got to enjoy the day. So, I guess I love doing that. That set me apart from others because I had that love, so I wanted to do the job. So, it gave me a little more edge, a little more push.

Interviewer: What other advice would you give to a job seeker looking to gain employment?
Pizza Hut Delivery Driver: If you want to be a delivery driver, you have got to have a good driving record. They look at everything that’s gone on since you’ve had your driver’s license. So, if you want to be a delivery driver, you have to have a good driving record.

Pizza Hut Delivery Driver: I was pizza delivery. Basically, what I did was come in, deliver pizza, prep, kitchen, cleaning, and a lot of dishes… dishwashing. Basically, that’s all it consists of.

Interviewer: What was the work environment like?

Pizza Hut Delivery Driver: It was laidback. It was a place that was very comfortable. There was a dress code, but it was a great atmosphere. Everybody had fun as long as you got your work done. At the end of the day, it was a good atmosphere.

Interviewer: Please describe a typical day as an employee.

Pizza Hut Delivery Driver: Come in, clock in, and as soon as you clock in, you go to work. Sometimes you barely have two or three minutes to use the bathroom. Sometimes you clock in, and you already have two or three pizzas already set up and deliver when you can. When it’s slow, you clean up, or you’re dishwashing. So it’s basically if you’re not delivering, you’re going to be prepping or doing dishes at the end of the day. So, a typical day is basically that – deliver, prep work, dishwasher.

Interviewer: How would you describe the application and interview process?

Pizza Hut Delivery Driver: Basically, I filled out an application. They called me after about two or three days. I filled that out online. They called me after two or three days, scheduled me an interview for that Monday. She called me on a Wednesday – so it was about a three or four day process – and on Monday, she took my information, did my background check, took my license, made sure I was able to drive. I called back Thursday, and I was hired by the next Monday.

Interviewer: What questions did the interviewer ask during the job interview?

Pizza Hut Delivery Driver: Was I a reliable driver, what was my driving record like, was I able to work in a fast-paced environment, have I ever interacted with certain people – because when we deliver pizzas, you’re likely to interact with everybody at any time. How am I in a fast-paced environment, basically? Delivering pizza is fast-paced – you have to get it, get back. There’s not any time for any leisure, and it’s a fast-paced thing. Basically, they wanted to know I could deliver pizzas adequately and in a good amount of time.

Interviewer: What other advice would you give to a job seeker looking to gain employment?

Pizza Hut Delivery Driver: Basically, be prepared to work in a fast pace. If you’re not prepared to get people their pizzas on time, you got to be prepared to work with different kinds of people, you got to be prepared to wash dishes, be prepared to prep because it’s deeper than just delivering – you have to do other jobs on the side. Make sure you’re driving record is good; don’t have a lot of accidents on your record. Make sure you don’t have DUIs or anything like that – just clean all around. That’s the best advice I could give you. Make sure your driving record is good and you’re ready to work in a high-paced environment.

Interviewer: Please describe your job title and primary duties.

Pizza Hut Driver: When I got hired into Pizza Hut, it was originally as a cook, but I was also told they needed drivers at the time, too. So, you’ll wait a little while, learn how to make their food first, and then we’ll let you go drive. And, in the end, I was there for a little over two years. I was the only person who was a driver and a cook. None of the other drivers knew how to cook, so if a big rush came in and they couldn’t handle it, I’d come off the road and help them on the line. As a driver, your primary duties are to do dishes and deliver food and answer phones. Cook – you’ll be on the line or answering phone calls, taking orders at the window, or cashing people out.

Interviewer: What was the work environment like?

Pizza Hut Driver: it could be kind of hectic at times. The holidays were a lot more violent than you would expect. My main priority was driver, so when it rained, everybody wanted pizza, for whatever reason. We got incredibly busy when it rained. Everybody in Cuyahoga Falls’ ovens broke down or something. We got incredibly busy when it snowed because that also made people not want to cook. Football season, every Sunday, we got destroyed. And the Super Bowl, don’t even get me started on that. Super Bowl, nothing was on time. Both Super Bowls that I worked there, we actually ran out of dough. We had to go to another store and get theirs. It got pretty wild at times, but it was really good money.

Interviewer: What was your favorite part about working there?

Pizza Hut Driver: The tips were pretty awesome. I made, on average, maybe 50 bucks a night. Sometimes I’d get $30, sometimes I’d get $75, depending on the day. The biggest tip I ever left there with was $175. Just a really busy day and you got a lot of good houses. And I made a lot of friends there that I’m still friends with now. Some good people.

Interviewer: Please describe a typical day as an employee.

Pizza Hut Driver: Well, when you get there as a driver, check in, get your change, 50 bucks was what drivers carried around. Then you would check the screen for deliveries, see if anything was up. If there was nothing up, you go do dishes. As a cook – depending on what time you get there – you get there in the morning, it’s a whole bunch of prep: stretching out dough to get stuffed crust ready, filling them up to make them completely, or you got to put dough in the pans, then put them in the poofer. That wasn’t a very taxing job. Another thing as a driver… when you come in, if the pans weren’t oiled for someone to come in and put the dough on, you oil them and stack them up, and put them away so they’re ready. They get knocked out as soon as possible.

Interviewer: How would you describe the application and interview process?

Pizza Hut Driver: Still standard application on this one. The catch on this one was they wanted to know your math skills. And I believe they did one of those, a short survey – do you strongly agree, disagree, neither, strongly agree or strongly disagree. Moral questions they would ask. That and math.

Interviewer: What set you apart from other candidates?

Pizza Hut Driver: They rated your tests, and they kept your scores. The agree/disagree test… I had one of the highest scores in the basic math section, and apparently that was really important to them.

Interviewer: What other advice would you give to a job seeker looking to gain employment?

Pizza Hut Driver: Know your basic math and be able to work in a hectic environment. Be able to deal with some angry customers. Some people would come back if they were really angry with their pizza, but you just go tell them to wait 10 minutes in the parking lot and you comp them a free pizza. If you’re a driver, make sure your car is in really good condition because you don’t want to go out in a torrential downpour and have bad brakes, or you don’t want to have bad tires in heavy snow. That and you don’t want to speed either. I had been pulled over twice, but fortunutely that little car topper on the top of your car gets you a little bit of a free pass with the cops.

No, all you need is a regular valid driver’s license, insurance, and a clean driving record!

Yes, and we think you’ll be more comfortable using your own car. We provide a Pizza Hut car topper for each shift that you drive.

Can I choose how many hours I want to work every day?

Talk to the hiring manager about your needs to see if flexible scheduling is available. Many Pizza Hut® locations offer both full-time and part-time hours.

How old do I have to be?

To be an hourly team member, you must be at least 16 years of age. Depending on the location, you need to be at least 18 to be considered for a Delivery Driver position.
