Q&A with Ms. Victoria
What inspires you to care for young children?
Kids get the most out of a daycare when families and providers work together! I am always checking in with parents to make sure all my daycare kids are comfortable, learning, and having fun here! I have three adult children and three grandkids – so I have a lot of experience caring for others. Being able to put all that I know and have learned over the years to use with so many special kids in my community is so rewarding.
What’s a typical day like at your daycare?
Kids learn from play and from being around other children their own age. In my daycare, there is lots of time in the daily schedule for socializing and fun learning activities – we sing, dance, do arts & crafts, and spend time outside as often as possible – and the kids interact with each other all day long. We love to do activities and projects around the changing seasons and always take time to celebrate birthdays – everyone loves to be acknowledged on their big day and getting to have fun with friends makes it even more fun. We have a special little community here!
What’s one thing parents should know about your program?
Kids learn so much in my program. My entire basement is dedicated to the daycare space, so kids really feel like they are big kids heading off to school when they come here! My program is Spanish language immersion and we explore letters, words and language in many different ways. Parents should know that their children are safe here – I keep a close eye on every child in my care and I know how to respond if help is ever needed for any reason. I love being able to offer this kind of peace of mind to parents and caregivers.

Rates & Openings
Daycare rates depend on how old your child will be and what your schedule looks like. 5 days / week might get a slight discount, and infant rates are usually more than toddlers’. Finding a spot also depends on age and schedule because each daycare has a limited number of openings for each age range.

Let’s find a really good daycare for you
Get your own recommendations based on your preferences, daily routine, and what matters most to you.
Your family is unique to you, but some of your questions might not be. 😉 Here’s what most parents want to know when starting out.
What is NeighborSchools?
Hey there, nice to meet you 👋 We’re a new-ish startup that helps new-ish parents find daycare.
We know how hard finding good child care can be – especially for first-time parents. But really good care is what gives you the peace of mind to go back to work and feel confident that your child is getting the stimulation, socialization, and support they need to learn and grow.
So we created NeighborSchools to make this piece of parenthood a whole lot easier. We say “easier” because, let’s be honest, it’s still a big thing to figure out, but working together we can help you find some good options, understand the whole process, and choose a program you’ll feel really good about.
How’s it work?
Most first-time parents don’t know exactly what they’re looking for, so we created a simple survey that will ask you questions about your lifestyle, your daily routines, and your preferences for child care. We’ll then share 3 personalized recommendations that we think might be a good fit. We’ll also give you a timeline that maps out when we would suggest you start touring programs, choose a daycare, and pay a deposit to secure a spot. Your timeline is based on when you want to start care – so you set the pace, and you decide when you’ve found the right match.
Is there a cost?
Nope. Our daycare recommendation service is free for parents. The other half of our business is helping these small-scale daycares with software and services that handle all their administrative tasks, like online contracting, payment processing, and licensing requirements. Before NeighborSchools, services like these were only designed for large corporate child care centers, and part of our mission is to level the playing field for small, independent child care programs. That’s why we picked the name NeighborSchools – we’re all about making child care more personal, more human, and more equitable for the incredible individuals who do this work and care for our children.
How do I know if I’m ready to take the survey?
Generally, if you’re here, you’re ready. The survey lets us give you 3 recommendations to consider, but it’ll also help you better understand what factors to consider, and what questions to be asking right now. It’s simple things like where you live, your child’s date of birth, when you want to start care, and if you have any preferences around program philosophy or language of instruction. If you’re planning 6+ months ahead, it’s a great way to get started, and if you’re hoping to start daycare in the next 2-4 months, it’s definitely time to get started. Click here to start the survey.
How do I know if a daycare has openings?
Each program has a limited number of spots for each age range, so we need to know your schedule and child’s age before we can share availability. The survey covers these basics, as well as factors like drop-off and pick-up times to make sure that recommended programs fit your daily routine. Once we know your child’s age and schedule we can share rates and costs as well.
More questions? Text or email – we’re here to help.
We’re online Monday – Friday from 8am to 6pm Eastern.

Everyday routines provide opportunities to strengthen relationships and build language skills through songs, games, and conversations.
Play-based learning
As your child plays, they develop dispositions for learning including curiosity, problem-solving, confidence and resilience. Educators plan play-based learning experiences around children’s interests and learning goals. Play-based learning supports all areas of children’s development, including language and motor movement, memory, concentration, emotions, and social relationships.
Sleep, rest and relaxation
Sleep, rest and relaxation routines match your child’s individual needs. Effective sleep practices help children feel safe and secure to support better sleep. UK, 1837. The monarchy is in crisis. William IV retired to Windsor Castle. His niece, the heir to the throne, Princess Alexandrine, lives with her mother, the Duchess of Kent, at Kensington Castle.
A messenger with a mourning band on his sleeve rushes from Windsor to Kensington. Alexandrine’s governess, Baroness Lezen, informs her that she has become queen.
Mother informs Alexandrina about this, she demands that the Duchess speak to her in English, not in German. The mother, her adviser Sir John Conroy, and her lady-in-waiting Lady Flora Hastings tell the eighteen-year-old girl that she should prepare for the visit of the Archbishop of Canterbury. Alexandrina says that she has already accepted him and he left the castle. Sir John reprimands the queen: from now on she should not take such steps without the advice of her elders.
Sir John says that Alexandrine is not a suitable throne name. Something more traditional is better: Elizabeth or Anna. Lady Flora believes that Elizabeth II will be a good reminder of the great predecessor. The Queen herself likes her middle name – Victoria. Sir John does not like this name, but the queen insists. Now she is Victoria.
Baroness Lehzen tells the queen that she needs to prepare for her return to Hanover. But Victoria believes that she should take the post of her personal adviser. She is tired of the influence of her mother and her personal adviser, Sir John. The servant, having learned that a governess, and even a German, has been appointed as the caretaker of the yard, is perplexed. The Baroness brings in a new maid, Skerret.
The Prime Minister, the leader of the Whig party, Lord Melbourne, is visiting the Queen. The young queen is told that it is not worth taking him alone – he has a bad reputation. But Victoria takes Lord Melbourne in private. He draws attention to the doll in the crown. What is her name? This is doll number 123, my mother gives them to me for my birthday. I got this one when I was 11. Did she put on the crown? No, only when I found out that I would be queen. At the age of 13, Baroness Lehzen and I were studying my family tree, and I suddenly realized that I was the heir to the throne.
Victoria offers Melbourne to be her personal secretary, but he politely refuses the young queen. He recalls that a meeting of the Privy Council is to be held tomorrow, at which representatives of the highest aristocracy of the country will take the oath to it.
At a meeting of the Privy Council, the Lords swear allegiance to the Queen. Melbourne, standing behind her, tells her the titles and names of the sworn ones. And you yourself know this. The last to take the oath is the brother of the late king, Victoria’s uncle the Duke of Cumberland. He is next to Victoria in the line of succession to the throne.
Baroness Lehzen says Buckingham Palace would be more convenient for Victoria. There is a move in progress. Victoria, seeing the throne in the hall, sits on it. The throne is too big, the legs dangle! Melbourne says it will need to look for a throne by size. And if someone else even once speaks out about Victoria’s small stature, they should be sent to the Tower. Victoria asks Melbourne: Have you changed your mind about my offer to take the post of personal secretary? I consider it an honor.
Victoria visits her mother, whom she has settled in the north wing of the castle, although she herself settled in the south. Lady Flora gives Victoria a list of candidates for the post of maid of honor: they are all of medium height! Wayward Victoria throws out the list.
Baroness Lehzen reproaches valet Penge for spending too much money on candles. Candle stubs Penge resells at a profit.
Victoria is represented by Skerret. She asks to make her a fashionable hairstyle. Skerret fulfills the queen’s wish.
The Queen conducts a review of the guards, after the ceremony, Lady Flora draws Victoria’s attention to the fact that she violated the protocol.
Victoria is introduced to her ladies-in-waiting. Melbourne advises the Queen to take as ladies-in-waiting the wives of his ministers, the Duchess of Sutherland and Lady Emma Portman. After that, Sir John reproaches Lord Melbourne for turning the Queen into a Whig puppet.
Mother warns Victoria: Lord Melbourne is a known heart thief. During a horse ride, the Queen conveys her mother’s concerns to the Prime Minister. He says that he does not marry after the death of his wife, because he is not looking for a replacement for her. And this despite the fact that she ran off with Lord Byron? I wouldn’t forgive that. You are too young to understand this.
Victoria appears at the ball in honor of the upcoming coronation. Melbourne is delayed. Victoria drinks champagne. She is invited to dance by the heir to the Russian throne, Grand Duke Alexander. He dances with the queen all the time. Lord Melbourne appears. The courtiers are horrified: the Grand Duke behaves too frivolously with the Queen. Melbourne’s assistant informs the Grand Duke of an urgent dispatch from St. Petersburg, he leaves the ball. Melbourne dances with Victoria.
Baroness Lehzen tells Victoria that Lady Flora is pregnant. And Sir John is to blame for this, who rode with Flora in the same carriage from Scotland itself. Victoria is outraged. She reprimands Sir John for betraying her mother. He does not admit his guilt, shames Victoria for excessive consumption of champagne. Lord Melbourne extinguishes the conflict by sending the queen to rest.
Lady Flora and Sir John are not invited to the coronation. They consider it an insult. Victoria demands that Flora be given a physical examination. Melbourne advises her to put the brakes on the case: now it is better not to anger the Tories, one of whose leaders is Lady Flora’s brother. Victoria insists. There is a coronation. At this time, doctors are examining Lady Flora. They report to the Queen: Lady Flora is a virgin. And what was taken for pregnancy is a tumor. Lady Flora is seriously ill.
The story takes a nasty turn: the newspapers publish reports that the Queen has slandered Lady Flora. As the Queen rides through the streets, the crowd shouts toasts in honor of the Duchess of Kent and words of encouragement to Lady Flora.
In order to reduce the cost of candles, Baroness Lehzen makes a decision: gas must be brought to the palace. In the kitchen, Chef Francatelli complains to Mr. Penge that we are preparing a cake for the queen, and here workers are walking around in dirty shoes. Tell the baroness about this, it was she who ordered the gas to be brought to the palace.
Lord Melbourne tells Victoria that Lady Flora is getting worse. She says: I’m scared! I know, but you are very brave.
Victoria visits the sick Lady Flora. Would you like something to bring, like peaches? Lady Flora is no longer up to peaches, she says that she is on her way to another world. Victoria asks her forgiveness for slandering her, kisses Lady Flora’s hands.
Mrs. Jenkins, the head maid, is convicted of selling the Queen’s used gloves to the side. Miss Skerret takes the blame, Baroness Lehzen demands that Victoria fire the maid. She, having learned that the queen is still not supposed to wear old gloves, forgives the maid.
Victoria is informed that Lady Flora has passed away. Mother reproaches Victoria: it was you who brought her to the grave. But I apologized to her! You should also apologize to Sir John. But this will not happen. He is guilty of worse things. How many times he mocked me for my height, how many times he called me stupid! And you always supported him, not me.
Victoria is in prostration. Lord Melbourne reminds her that she must take over the parade of the guards. He tells how bad it was for him after the death of his son, but this did not prevent him from doing his duty. Smile, let no one know how hard it is for you.
Victoria hosts the parade. Cries for the unfortunate Lady Flora are heard from the crowd of spectators. Victoria, smiling, salutes the guardsmen.
The Duke of Cumberland tells MPs in Parliament that his niece is unable to perform royal duties. He reminds everyone of the rumors that go around about the relationship between Victoria and Melbourne, evil tongues call the queen Mrs. Melbourne.
Sir John is talking to the Duchess of Kent. He speaks of the need to introduce a regency with the transfer of the functions of the monarch to it.
A bill to abolish slavery in Jamaica will be debated in Parliament. Lord Melbourne is compelled to attend the meeting.
Mr. Penge gives a coin to his assistant, who tells Baroness Lezen that he saw a rat in the throne room. And recently, he himself invited a rat catcher to the palace, after the appearance of which rodents began to be found in the palace. Mr. Penge says to the baroness: there’s nothing to be done, the laying of gas to the palace scared away the rats, they are looking for new habitats. After some time, Baroness Letzen informs Mr. Penge that the gas pipeline to the palace is canceled: it is too expensive.
Lord Melbourne returns from Parliament. He informs Victoria that the deputies have supported a bill to abolish slavery in Jamaica, as demanded by his party. But now he is forced to leave the post of prime minister. Why? Now the Tories will grab me by the throat. And I will definitely lose the next vote. Better leave now. Victoria begs Melbourne not to leave her, but he is adamant. He says the next cabinet could be formed by the Tory leader the Duke of Wellington. Victoria receives Wellington and asks him to form a government. The Duke refuses: we must give way to the young. He believes that his fellow party member Sir Robert Peel will be able to form a cabinet. Wellington says that the change in the ruling party, according to tradition, should lead to changes in the environment of the queen. The monarch must remain neutral in inter-party conflicts. And now all of Victoria’s ladies-in-waiting are Whig wives. You need to replace at least two. Take Tory wives in their place. Victoria does not intend to remove her friends from the court.
Lord Melbourne has locked himself in his house and does not receive anyone. Victoria comes to him and again asks him to return. Melbourne again refuses her: he obeys the constitution.
Sir Robert Peel visits Victoria. He asks the queen to remove two ladies-in-waiting and to take their place two ladies whose husbands are members of his party. The queen refuses him. Sir Peel reports in Parliament that since the Queen does not trust him in this matter, he cannot form a government.
Victoria is given a huge cake for her birthday. Suddenly, a rat is found on the cake, everyone is horrified, and Victoria has a tantrum. Sir John tells the Duke of Cumberland about the incident. Was there a rat? Yes, but the response was inadequate. The Duke recalls that his father (Victoria’s grandfather), when he went crazy, imagined a red dog. The queen needs to see a doctor, she needs to rest! And the country needs a regent, and of British royal blood. Sir John tells the Duchess of Kent that Victoria is going crazy, just like her grandfather. And the Duke of Cumberland should be regent. The Duchess says that she does not believe in her daughter’s madness: this is already too much!
The Duke of Cambraland is spreading rumors about the inadequacy of the young queen more and more loudly. Lord Melbourne learns of his plans to become regent.
A solemn ceremony is held to unveil the Queen’s throne portrait. In the presence of courtiers, Victoria tries to tear the veil from the portrait. She can’t do it. Lord Melbourne approaches her: can I help you? Yes. Will you be my prime minister? With pleasure. Melbourne rips the veil off the portrait.
In the evening the queen plays cards with her ladies-in-waiting. Lord Melbourne, sitting nearby, melancholy remarks: I will not remain her adviser for long. Soon she will be married and will listen to the advice of her husband.
