In the fast paced toddler room, we meet basic needs while giving them plenty of time to explore and discover. We have floor and table time with the teachers for verbal, visual, and physical learning. Basic skills are introduced with flash cards, art, and play with learning to share and self-expression being a priority.
In the Two Year Old Room, we begin to follow a schedule with activities and skills as little attention spans will allow. This is done through different centers, group time, free play, and teacher time. We work on sharing, how to treat others, and following rules. Potty training begins as the child is ready.
We are ready to sit down and learn more in the Three’s Room. Our schedule consists of centers, carpet times, free play, teacher time, and more specified activities and tasks.
We tackle the basics by beginning to master shapes, colors, numbers, letters, and rules of behavior that were started in the two’s room.
We are getting ready for school in the 4 Year Old Room by stressing the importance of setting a schedule and following rules. We have free play, carpet time, teacher time, and centers with more activities and learning situations being introduced. We work on our social skills and communication while building on classifications, sequencing, phonics, and numbers.
School Age Kids have been in school all day and are ready to have some fun and free time now. We will assist with homework and build on what they are doing in school. This is their time to socialize while still having boundaries….

Spare Me is an American contemporary Christian music group based in Edmond, Oklahoma.
The group consists of a lead vocalist. Bart Millard, percussionist Robbie Shaffer, bassist Nathan Cochran and guitarists Michael Scheuchzer and Barry Graul.
The band formed in 1994 and released six independent albums before signing with INO Records in 2001. [3] The band first gained mainstream recognition with the crossover single “I Can Only Imagine”, which lifted their debut album, Almost Done , to triple platinum certification. The band has since released eight additional studio albums (six of which have been certified gold) and a greatest hits album, 10 . The group also had 13 consecutive top 5 singles. Billboard Christian songs chart, 7 of which reached #1. MercyMe has won 8 Dove Awards and has received multiple Grammy nominations. On April 8, 2014, the band released their eighth studio album titled Welcome to the new . MercyMe’s ninth studio album, Life , was released on March 31, 2017.

1 Formation and early years - 1.2 Almost done [4] Both led the praise team on a tour of Europe. They both felt the call to pursue music full-time. They later met guitarist Michael John Scheuchzer, who joined them and later moved to Oklahoma City. The group was formally formed in 1994 at the Henderson Hills Baptist Church in Edmond, Oklahoma. [5]
In 1997, MercyMe moved to Nashville to find a record label. A year later they left Nashville for Dallas and recorded an album. [6] They then settled in Greenville, Texas, and served at Highland Terrace Baptist Church. [7]
The trio set up a studio and “living area” in an old abandoned kindergarten. [8] Later bassist Nathan Cochran and drummer Robbie Shaffer joined the band to accompany the band on six independent releases before signing to INO Records in 2001. Unlike their first three major-label albums, their earlier indie projects were more geared towards rock beats.
[9] The group’s name “MercyMe” originated during Millard’s time as a youth ministry intern in Florida. Concerned that her grandson was at home when she called, Millard’s grandmother exclaimed, “Forgive me, why don’t you get a real job?” [10] [11] Almost done , Spoken for and Canceled (2001–2004)
After signing with INO Records, the group released their first major debut album,
0359 Almost done . The single “I Can Only Imagine” earned the band the Dove Award in 2002 for song of the year. However, it wasn’t until three years after its release that the song began to gain mainstream success. [8] topping Billboard 200 seven week sales chart, [12] and reaching #71 on the Hot 100, #33 on the Mainstream Top 40, #27 on the Adult Top 40, #5 on Contemporary Music for adults, and No. 52 on the Country Songs Chart. Ultimately, the success of the single contributed to is almost ready to go double platinum, corresponding to sales of over 2 million albums, and the single itself went platinum.
In 2002, MercyMe released Spoken to which ranked #2 on the Christian Albums Chart. Two singles from the album, “Spoken For” and “Word of God Speak”, peaked at number one on the Christian radio charts, while “Word of God Speak” spent a record 22 weeks atop the newly created Billboard Christian Songs Chart. [12] The album was eventually certified gold by the RIAA. [13]
Spoken for received three Dove Awards, but was somewhat overlooked due to the amount of attention “I Can Only Imagine” was attracting at the time in mainstream markets.
In 2003, guitarist Barry Graul, formerly of a Christian hard rock band. Whitecross, joined MercyMe, [14] providing MercyMe with a second guitarist to deepen their third studio album, Canceled . [14] In 2004, the band headlined the “Imagine Tour” along with other artists. Amy Grant and Bebo Norman. [12] In addition to headlining the “Imagine Tour”, MercyMe released their third major label album, Canceled by , peaking at No.
12 on Billboard 200 and No. 1 on the Christian Albums charts, their highest debut in charts at the time. The album spawned three successful singles – “Here with Me” (which topped the Christian Songs Chart as well as No. 12 on the Adult Contemporary chart and No. 38 on the Adult Top 40), “Homesick” (which peaked at No. 3 places on the Christian Songs chart and 9th on the Adult Contemporary charts) and “In the Blink of an Eye” (which topped the “Christian Songs” chart). The album itself won the Dove Award for Pop/Contemporary Album of the Year at the 36th GMA Dove Awards, and was certified gold by the RIAA. MercyMe also released a live video album, MercyMe Live in 2004, which was eventually certified platinum by the RIAA.
Christmas Sessions and Coming to Breathing (2005–2006)
In 2005, MercyMe launched a tour with Jeremy Camp, After and Monk & Neagle in support of their album, Canceled . [15]
After the release of Canceled In 2004 the band took a break before the next big release, so they decided to work on a Christmas album.
[16] Christmas Sessions was recorded and released on September 27, 2005. The album included seven songs that reached the top 40 of the Christian Songs chart (one of them reached number one and two others reached the top ten), and four of them reached the top. 40 on the Adult Contemporary chart (with one of the top 10). The album itself peaked at number 64 in a ranking of Billboard 200 and No. 3 on the Christian Songs Chart. Promote Christmas Sessions. MercyMe had a Christmas tour with Stephen Curtis Chapman who released a Christmas album called All I Really Want for Christmas that same year.
In 2006, MercyMe released Coming to Breath , which peaked at No. 13 on Billboard 200 and No. 1 on the Christian Albums Chart. [17] [18] Although the band had built a reputation as an adult contemporary band on their other albums, the band decided to make Approaching the Breath of a more rock-oriented album in the vein of their earlier grunge-influenced albums.
[19] As such, it also ranked #5 on the Top Rock Albums chart and #13 on the Top Alternative Albums chart, their only appearance on the charts to date. Coming to Breathing spawned three radio singles (“So Long Me”, “Hold On”, and “Bring the Rain”), two of which (“So Long Self” and “Bring the Rain”) reached No. 1 on the Christian Songs chart, “So Long Self” and “Hold Fast” also reached the top 30 on the Adult Contemporary chart. . Coming to Breath was eventually certified gold by the RIAA.
Supporting Coming to Breathe , MercyMe headlined the “Coming Up to Breathe Tour” with Audio Adrenaline (on his farewell tour) and Phil Wickham after seeing half of their shows sold out two weeks before the tour [20 ]
All that’s in me , Coming Up to Breathe: acoustic and 10 (2007–2009)
November 20, 2007 MercyMe released All that is in me . Millard, the band’s lead singer, believed that All That’s About Me was going to be a worship album, with half of the songs being cover songs and the other half being originals; however, when the band got into the studio, they ended up writing all of the songs on that album.
[21] Upon release, the album peaked at No. 15 on Billboard 200 and No. 1 on the Christian Songs Chart. The album contained three singles (“God With Us”, “You Reign” and “Finally Home”), all of which reached the top three on the Christian Songs chart; “Last Home” also peaked at number 17 on the Adult Contemporary chart (their last chart appearance to date). Everything in Me has also been certified gold by the RIAA.
In 2008, the band released Coming Up to Breathe: Acoustic , an acoustic version of their earlier release Coming Up to Breathe .
April 7, 2009 MercyMe released their first greatest hits compilation 10 , [22] a double album consisting of 15 studio recordings (12 of which were previously singles and 3 of which were new recordings) and 11 live or concept videos, as well as several documentaries about the band. The album peaked at number 18 on Chart Billboard 200 and No. 1 on the Christian Songs chart, although no singles were released from the album.
Generous Mr. Lovewell & Worship Sessions (2010–2011)
MercyMe’s sixth studio album, Generous Mr. Lovewell , was released on May 4, 2010. The album itself peaked at No. 3 on the Billboard 200 (MercyMe’s highest debut to date and first top five album on the chart) and No. 1 on the Christian Albums chart. The album (a concept album related to the general theme of love and vaguely related to the character of the same name) also spawned three singles – “All Creations”, “Beautiful”, and “Move” – all of which reached number one on the Christian songs chart. At the conclusion of “The Generous Mr. Lovewell” tour, MercyMe was asked to play the national anthem in concert. Dallas Cowboys game. [23]

The album debuted at number seven on the Top Billboard 200, 33,000 sold. [24] Welcome to the band’s new eighth studio album, released April 8, 2014, produced by David Garcia and Ben Glover. [25] Singles from this album include the pre-release single “Shake It Up”, and the post-release singles “More” and “Dear Younger Me”. was released on March 31, 2017, and the lead single from the album was “Even If”, which was released on February 17, 2017. [26] This samples the chorus of the anthem “It’s good for my soul.” The song peaked at number one on the Billboard Hot Christian Songs chart for three weeks, becoming their twelfth number one single. In 2009 MercyMe partnered with Compassion International and Imagine A Cure to raise money for children with diabetes through Imagine A Cure and people with medical needs around the world through Compassion International. [33]
Go Fund
“I’d Die for You”, a song from their fourth album, Coming to Breath was dedicated to BJ Higgins, a boy who contracted bubonic plague while on a missionary trip to Peru. The song was used to raise money for The Go Foundation, which was born out of Higgins’ untimely death.
Tour Bus Crash
On Saturday, August 8, 2009 at approximately 01:15 AM in Fort Wayne, Indiana, a MercyMe tour bus was passing through an intersection at a green light when an oncoming passenger vehicle turned left on red into the bus path , resulting in a collision that killed the two occupants of the vehicle, and the driver of the vehicle faced the loss of a fetus from a car injury. MercyMe was scheduled to perform at Six Flags St. Louis but the park issued a statement saying the show had been rescheduled because the band “was in a car accident in Indiana”. [34]
Despite media reports claiming that the group remained silent for several days after the crash, not contacting the family of the dead and injured, [35] MercyMe released a statement through its publicist on the day of the crash . [36]

Time flies… On March 31, it will be a year since the outstanding scientist in the field of psychotherapy and psychology of family and childhood, psychiatrist, psychotherapist, doctor of medical sciences, professor Edmond Georgievich Eidemiller passed away.
The experience of loss is inextricably linked with difficult emotions that can only be endured along with warm memories and a sense of gratitude to fate, which gave the opportunity to be and live next to such a Person. And even if these memories and experiences are shared by those who lived, studied, worked next to him. This article is such a space for experiencing and living again that miracle of the Meeting that happened to us, those who continue to remember and thank fate for it, feed on it and move on, passing on its warmth and significance to other people. It is for this purpose that I decided to turn to the memories of like-minded people, students, associates – those who came into contact with the amazing, ambiguous, talented Edmond Georgievich.
In my presentation I have tried to follow the chronology of the memories, so let’s start with what relates to the earliest Meetings.
Edmond Georgievich and the staff of the department had a long-term friendship with Ph.D.
“I met Edmond Georgievich in May 1986, when I was studying at advanced training courses at the GIDUV in Leningrad [14]. And literally infected by his passion for the study of adolescents, as well as family relationships. And from that time my research activity began under his guidance. And Edmond Georgievich turned out to be very demanding and scrupulous, and at the same time he always provided help and support at the right time. I well remembered his phrase after the next check of my work: “When you write a work, you must constantly remember that you will not be near the reader and you will not be able to explain to him the meaning of your work. He must understand what you wanted to say. I remember this all the time. And I teach this to my students. Another important quality acquired in communication with Edmond Georgievich is to double-check the data obtained during the study, as well as carefully check the literary sources. And I teach this to my students.
In 1988, Edmond Georgievich first came to our republic to conduct a training seminar aimed at familiarizing doctors and psychologists of Kyrgyzstan with the methods of group psychotherapy. And then Edmond Georgievich visited our country quite often. He conducted classes both with doctors of the Mental Health Center, school psychologists, and with students of the Department of Psychology. Edmond Georgievich together with the staff of the Department of Child Psychiatry and Psychotherapy of the Medical Academy of Postgraduate Education in St. Petersburg ( Nikolskoy I.M . and Alexandrova N.V. ) took part in summer schools. These were wonderful days filled with new knowledge, communication and new experiences. Participants of the summer school came to the lectures of Edmond Georgievich in advance in order to take seats closer to the lecturer [10; 12]. In fact, each lecture gradually turned into general communication, where various issues related to the psychology of family relations were discussed. Such interest was understandable – we all came from the family. But interest was also fueled by the charm of Edmond Georgievich, the way he presented the material, how he communicated with the audience, how he conducted training sessions on counseling.
Summer School 2007
There is a tradition at our Department of Psychology: when mastering the discipline “Family Psychotherapy”, students must read the work of Eidemiller E.G., Yustitsky V.V. “Family Psychotherapy” followed by a discussion with the teacher of what was read. In other words, the students of our department were quite familiar with Edmond Georgievich in absentia. And at one of the lectures, a student asked a wonderful question: “Edmond Georgievich, is it easy to be a living classic?” To which Edmond Georgievich had a lot of fun.
Particular for me was the participation in the training seminar, where the method of group psychotherapy and training training “Warm Keys” Eidemiller E.G. was born, Vovka A.I. It was incredibly interesting to watch what happened in the groups. Classes were held in the mountains. And the surroundings of the majestic peaks further strengthened the emotional states of the participants. The technique was born literally by the hour. There were a lot of participants in the training, and the desire to work in a group was so great that Edmond Georgievich and Alexei decided to conduct classes in two groups. I must say that the craving for new knowledge in the work of psychologists and psychotherapists was so great that no one left and everyone remained in place. It was decided that the participants of the 1st group would observe the work of the 2nd group and vice versa. This led to the fact that by the end of the first day, emotions literally seethed in the groups. And our teachers every evening, locking themselves in their room, vigorously discussed what was happening in groups. Actually, these discussions led to the fact that a new model of bifocal group psychotherapy was born.
Communicating with Edmond Georgievich, I learned not only the wisdom of psychotherapeutic work, but also the secrets in the art of painting and music. For me, joint trips to the Hermitage and the Conservatory opened up a completely different perception of the world. And this affected the fact that in my work I use the methods of art therapy and involve my students in this.
With the departure of Edmond Georgievich, I understand more and more how important it is that in life there are people of such a magnitude as him. I’m lucky! I am a student of Eidemiller Edmond Georgievich and I am very proud of it.”

“Since 1987, for the first time in Russia, psychodrama for teenagers began to be developed. The “iron curtain” was not yet fully opened, there was no opportunity to learn from professionals, so E.G. Eidemiller and I, a graduate student, translated literature ourselves and experimented with methods. At 19In 1988, N.V. joined the team of psychodramatists. Alexandrova.

Due to the fact that the department of child psychotherapy was small, and Edmond Georgievich was able to scrupulously weigh the capabilities of each teacher, this made it possible to build surprisingly clear didactics. Traditions of teaching medical psychology were preserved V.N. Myasishcheva and B.D. Karvasarsky with a demonstration of patients in each clinical block. Sincerely, Sergey Alexandrovich.
On the table of Edmond Georgievich were portraits Z. Freud and A. Freud . He always emphasized his adherence to the analytical approach in psychotherapy, I think that with this he could “infect” his students as well. I dare to believe that the famous Russian child psychoanalyst Nina Leonidovna Vasilyeva could “catch” such an “influence” in communication with Edmond Georgievich. But even if the “infection” did not occur there, then it was supported by him for sure. While working on the textbook, which should be published by the end of the year, Edmond Georgievich always spoke of gratitude and respect for the deep knowledge and practice of Nina Leonidovna, joy from jointly shared ideas.

“I remember well what an honor it was for me that it was Edmond Georgievich who agreed to be my supervisor when writing my Ph.D. thesis. Then he worked at the Bekhterev Institute and was the head of the teenage department. It was around 1994. Even then, Edmond Georgievich was a famous scientist, one of the founders of domestic family psychotherapy. I well remember the enthusiasm with which he developed his ideas in this area! At the same time, however, Edmond Georgievich willingly got acquainted with representatives of foreign psychotherapy! And he took part in the seminars on an equal footing, as an ordinary participant!
Edmond Georgievich was always very sensitive to the new and willingly accepted it! After my defense, we maintained a warm relationship for many years! Largely because Edmond Georgievich remained young at heart, even as a famous scientist! He readily explored new areas for himself, for example, the field of child psychoanalysis. After his internship at the Anna Freud Center, Edmond Georgievich introduced the ideas of psychoanalysis into psychotherapeutic practice.
Edmond Georgievich was also an excellent teacher! It was a great honor when he agreed to become involved in teaching at the department where I worked (Department of Mental Health and Early Support for Children and Parents). For many years he taught at the Faculty of Psychology of St. Petersburg State University. I was incredibly glad that psychology students could touch the real storehouse of knowledge that Edmond Georgievich had.
I am grateful to fate for the fact that I had a chance to walk next to Edmond Georgievich for a long distance! I remember him with gratitude and warmth!”
Edmond Georgievich always gave characteristics to people very accurately, he called Igor Valerievich Dobryakov an encyclopedist and always appreciated him for his knowledge and experience, willingness to share them, and also always supported individual growth and development. At one of the cathedral meetings, a metaphor of a common garden and an individual garden was born: “We all cultivate a garden, but we can plow our own garden” …

“A long period of my professional life is connected with Edmond Georgievich Eidemiller. After graduating from the Pediatric Institute, working as a pediatrician, pediatric neurologist, psychiatrist, psychotherapist, I was convinced that knowledge and understanding of the family context is necessary for the diagnosis and effective treatment of any patient. And in striving to achieve this, the wonderful book by Edmond Georgievich Eidemiller, written in collaboration with Viktor Yustitskis, “Family Psychotherapy”, published in 1990 year. That is how I got to know this wonderful person. I turned to his book constantly, finding answers to many questions that arise in the work.
Of course, the desire to personally meet Edmond Georgievich, to learn from him was very great. And it came true thanks to the child psychiatrist, colleague and friend Nina Viktorovna Aleksandrova. When I worked at the Pediatric Institute, she was an assistant at the department of my teacher, Professor Dmitry Nikolaevich Isaev . After a rather long break, when I met her, I found out that she began to work on a course of child and adolescent psychotherapy, which in 1990 was organized and headed by Edmond Georgievich. Nina told me a lot and interestingly about their joint work. She soon informed me that I had the opportunity to improve my skills by taking a cycle of training from Eidemiller and his colleagues. Of course, I happily agreed. The impressions from the lectures, the emotions experienced in the practical classes are unforgettable. I was especially struck by the skill of cotherapists Eidemiller and Alexandrova, shown by them during the sessions of family psychodrama. After the end of the cycle, I used the acquired knowledge and skills to the best of my ability in my work, at the first opportunity I attended clinical reviews, demonstrations, lectures of the Master.
The desire to work in his team was great. And then one day Nina Viktorovna, who knew about my desire and encouraged him, said that the position of an assistant was vacant. At that time, I was an assistant professor at the Faculty of Psychology at St. Petersburg University. In a short time I was to receive the title of assistant professor, but the temptation to work under Edmond Georgievich was so great that I went to him as an assistant and never regretted it.
I got the opportunity to communicate with him, listen to lectures, at which he often talked about the preparation of his dissertation under the guidance of Professor Andrey Evgenievich Lichko , about studying in London at the Anna Freud Center and at the Institute of Group Analysis, about participation in the seminars of such famous psychotherapists like Virginia Satir , Carl Whitaker and others. Of particular interest were his stories about how his concept of pathological family inheritance was formed, models of short-term analytical psychodrama and analytical-systemic family psychotherapy, the method of group psychotherapy “Warm Keys”, the diagnostic questionnaire “Analysis of family relationships” (DIA) were developed.
The walls of the classrooms in which the course participants studied were decorated with interesting reproductions of paintings with a deep psychological content. Edmond Georgievich often used them as illustrations for his lectures. I did not immediately learn that he was the author of some graphic works. It turned out that in 1965 the young Edmond Eidemiller was a full member of the St. Petersburg group of informal artists, organized by Mikhail Shemyakin . Having become a doctor, Edmond Georgievich continued to constantly engage in artistic creativity, illustrated his books. I have repeatedly been a grateful visitor to solo exhibitions of his graphic works.

Working under the guidance of Eidemiller, communicating with colleagues gave me great pleasure. And although Edmond Georgievich was stingy with praise, it seemed to me that he was satisfied with my work. Unexpected and very pleasant was his offer to become a co-author of a book, the initiator of which was the chief child psychiatrist of the St. Petersburg Health Committee Ludmila Pavlovna Rubina . In 2001, our book Clinical and Psychological Methods of Family Diagnostics and Psychotherapy was published.
On July 2, 2002, a significant event took place. By order of the rector of the St. Petersburg Medical Academy of Postgraduate Education and the decision of the Academic Council, our course, led by Professor E.G. Eidemiller, was transformed into the Department of Child Psychiatry and Psychotherapy [14]. This date became a holiday for the whole team and was celebrated annually. Psychiatrists, psychotherapists, psychologists willingly studied on our cycles, the plan was carried out. With the advent of the remarkable psychologist Irina Mikhailovna Nikolskaya [9] scientific work also became more active. In 2003 E.G. Eidemiller suggested that she and I jointly write a textbook for doctors and psychologists, “Family Diagnosis and Family Psychotherapy. ” The work captured us, and in 2003 the book was ready and published in the series “Masters of World Psychology”. The book received good reviews and sold out. In 2004, Edmond Georgievich suggested that all employees of the department write a textbook on child psychiatry under his editorship. It was supposed to reflect the experience of our many years of clinical and educational work. The task was difficult and ambitious. Work on the textbook required a lot of time and work. It was a great honor for me that Edmond Georgievich instructed me to write 7 chapters out of 32 planned. Particularly difficult and time-consuming was the work on the chapter on general psychopathology. The high appraisal of what happened by Edmond Georgievich is very dear to me. He said that almost no editorial revision was required. In 2005, a textbook with a volume of more than 1000 pages was completed and published by the Piter Publishing House in the National Medical Library series.
Since various topics of medical psychology were developed at the department, many medical psychologists improved their qualifications in our cycles, in 2007, by decision of the Academic Council of the Academy, the department was renamed and “medical psychology” appeared in its name, which began to fully reflect the topics of scientific and practical work. The department became known as the department of child psychiatry, psychotherapy and medical psychology. At that time, Edmond Georgievich and I combined our work at the department with teaching at the Faculty of Psychology of St. Petersburg University at the department headed by Professor R.J. Mukhamedrakhimov [2]. Often, if necessary, we replaced each other.
Since the first edition of the workshop on systemic family psychotherapy, published in 2002, was widely demanded by specialists, 2010 was marked by the release of its second, significantly supplemented version, created by the staff of the department under the guidance and editorship of Professor E.G. Eidemiller and with his illustrations.
In 2012, the staff of the department, headed by its head, solemnly celebrated its 10th anniversary. The successes were obvious. The work of the department was in great demand. Almost all child psychiatrists, psychotherapists and many psychologists of children’s medical institutions in St. Petersburg and the North-West region of the Russian Federation have repeatedly trained in its cycles. Feedback from listeners has consistently been positive. The development of the department in the future and its longevity were not in doubt.
Unfortunately, the hopes were not destined to come true. They closed the 32nd department of the psychiatric hospital No. 9, which for a long time served as the clinical base of the department, where many interns, residents and graduate students of the department took place. No new base was provided. In 2019, the Department of Child Psychiatry, Psychotherapy and Medical Psychology, headed by E.G. Eidemiller, was generally abolished “for the purpose of optimization.” Edmond Georgievich was very upset by what happened, he was ill, but did not give up. He worked hard on the second edition of the textbook of child psychiatry. We actively called each other, corresponded, I sent him revised and supplemented versions of my chapters. He said that he was preparing another exhibition of his graphic works in Vilnius. ..
I found out that he was gone while on a business trip. It is very sad that such people are leaving… Blessed memory…”
In Russia, only two departments were organized with the words “child psychiatry, psychotherapy and medical psychology” in their titles – in Moscow and St. Petersburg, both at medical academies of postgraduate education. The heads of these departments were bound by many years of friendship. Yu.S. Shevchenko [11] repeatedly came to St. Petersburg, came to the department to Edmond Georgievich, where, together with other employees, they discussed the pressing problems of child psychiatry, shared their impressions of the conferences, and exchanged published books.

Being an analytically oriented psychotherapist, Edmond Georgievich did not avoid being interested in other areas, he was always impressed by the enthusiasm and excitement of his students, openness to the new allowed him to assemble an amazing team of like-minded people in love for psychotherapy. “The professor who changed my life.
In 1989, two years passed since I retired as a ballet dancer and started working at a Finnish language school as a choreographer and teacher of Finnish and Swedish. At school, I taught art therapy lessons and showed the results of this work to the professor, psychiatrist and psychotherapist E.G. Eidemiller. What was my surprise when he invited me to speak at a conference at the Child Psychiatry Rehabilitation Center, asking: “Are you afraid to speak in front of psychiatrists?” To which I replied: “I have been dancing in the theater for 20 years and it doesn’t matter to me who is sitting in the auditorium.” After this speech, Edmond Georgievich invited me to study for the advanced training cycle “Analytical Psychodrama with Children, Adolescents and Adults” at the Department of Psychotherapy with a course of child and adolescent psychotherapy of the State Institute of Higher Education. Thus began my journey in psychology.
Such qualities of Edmond Georgievich as democracy, susceptibility to different areas of work with a person, an individual approach to a student, in my case helped me while studying psychology at the University of Helsinki and dance and movement therapy at the Higher Ballet School in Stockholm. I could always put my questions to Edmond Georgievich by phone and get an exhaustive answer. Regardless of the question, he was willing to explain everything in detail. Edmond Georgievich generously shared his knowledge. A man of broad outlook and a high degree of creativity, he sought to use a creative approach in all areas of psychotherapy, which he broadcast in his lectures.
Edmond Georgievich provided the student with the freedom to move forward, regardless of his school. The idea of writing a Ph.D. thesis belonged to Edmond Georgievich, and it was he who sent me to his former student, professor of the Department of Clinical Psychology at the Russian State Pedagogical University. A.I. Gertsena S.A. Kulakov as a supervisor in the specialty “Clinical Psychology”. Subsequently, when I began to work independently as a dance movement therapist, Edmond Georgievich always came to the rescue, helping to understand the difficulties of the professional situation in dance movement counseling, conducting supervision.
I was struck by the breadth of views and democracy in communication Edmond Georgievich. He was ready to help any resident who showed interest in the profession of a psychiatrist-psychotherapist, showing creative disinterestedness. I witnessed how a clinical resident from Peru, who studied at another university, attended clinical reviews of patients in a hospital. At the end of each analysis, Edmond Georgievich talked with him separately, finding out how much he understood the peculiarities of managing the patient. Edmond Georgievich generously shared his knowledge and experience, always had his own opinion and could defend it, without adjusting to generally accepted ideas and regardless of ranks and titles.

“My meeting with Edmond Georgievich took place in 2003, when I entered the department for residency in psychotherapy. At the interview, I got my first lesson. Edmond Georgievich was more interested in what kind of person I am and what my worldview is than my progress at the university.
Throughout the training and further joint work, Edmond Georgievich “taught” the ability to see and understand a person, treat him with respect and always maintain his own dignity.
I remember how Edmond Georgievich came into our office and, after greeting us, told an anecdote or a funny story, which always cheered us up, especially when working with endless documents, plans and reports. Edmond Georgievich appreciated humor and knew how to joke. Edmond Georgievich also created a unique team in which we, the employees, were members of a friendly, caring and loving family.

“For the first time I was lucky to communicate with Edmond Georgievich through correspondence in the Psychological Newspaper. In one of the interviews, the Master was asked to comment on some of the issues raised in my very naive but frank letter. Even then I was struck by the simplicity and accessibility of such a famous person. Further, in the process of studying at the department, I became more and more convinced of its organicity and lightness.
For me, as a scientist and leader, he was the ideal father figure. Strong, wise, kind, fair, allowing different ideas and undertakings to grow stronger and stronger, he allowed differences and non-standard points of view.
Edmond Georgievich was young at heart and an active, searching and inexhaustibly interested researcher. Until his last days he created and developed the science and practice of helping activity.

Edmond Georgievich often repeated that the senior laboratory assistant was an important person at the department, he emphasized his respect and gratitude to those who daily ensured the current departmental work, provided comfort and order, created an atmosphere of home and family. Often the words “father”, “mother”, “children” were heard. For many years, the senior laboratory assistant at the department was Nina Viktorovna Alexandrova – a true friend and colleague, like-minded person and co-therapist of Edmond Georgievich. With his memories of E.G. Eidemiller Nina Viktorovna shared with the participants of the section “History of Medical Psychology in Russia” at the VII International Scientific and Practical Conference “Medical (Clinical) Psychology: Historical Traditions and Modern Practice”, held on December 3–5, 2020 in Yaroslavl (YaSMU). I refer to the memoirs of the last senior laboratory assistant of the Department of Child Psychiatry, Psychotherapy and Medical Psychology Akhmatchina Tatyana Vladimirovna , currently – Assistant of the Department of Psychotherapy, Medical Psychology and Sexology:
“It is not easy to write memoirs. The difficulty for me is that Edmond Georgievich is remembered not as a participant in stories where there is a linear plot. These are many stories – impressions associated with Edmond Georgievich, these are bright, prominent emotional moments intertwined with each other, turning into a common great memory, an image that seems to accompany me.
I put things in order on my computer, look through the folder with the documents of the department and stumble upon photographs. Of course, I begin to scroll through, to consider what revives memories. There are also photographs of Edmond Georgievich. Several shots are “official”, but there are also unique, “amateur”, random shots. Or maybe not random. Transmitting liveliness, saturation of the moment, where Edmond Georgievich shows something, maybe proves it. It could be just a conversation, or it could be a moment of psychotherapy or a learning process.
There are stories from their student years when Edmond Georgievich and Nina Viktorovna told us, students, about their approach. It was fascinating, interesting and incomprehensible – “what does psychotherapy have to do with it”? At that moment, there was only one idea in my head of what “real” psychotherapy looks like, built on the “psychoanalytic plot” of the session.
Sometimes I had to assist Edmond Georgievich at the department during lectures with showing video recordings of the sessions. It would seem – the same topic, the same video on this topic, and the lecture is different every time. Other accents, other additions. I did not get bored listening to Edmond Georgievich. A variety of examples, stories, analogies, metaphors… Edmond Georgievich invited to a broader perception of the psychotherapeutic process, invited to think critically, invited to inspiration and development.
Of the great “plot” memories – the opening of an exhibition of paintings by Edmond Georgievich in the gallery “Borey”. A lot of people gathered for such a small room. All members of the department arrived. At that time, there were also departments of child psychiatry, psychotherapy and medical psychology. Edmond Georgievich was visibly agitated and concentrated. Many kind words were said, both to the author of the exhibition and the author himself. There were many colors and there were many colors in the paintings. Photos, unfortunately, do not convey all this. But my memory works and complements the brightness …
My mind knows that Edmond Georgievich is not with us … But inside there is a different feeling. Especially when looking at photos.

Now I can turn to my own memories [4; 13] . .. Edmond Georgievich Eidemiller has been present in my life since 1994 years old. It is not by chance that the words “guide”, “father”, “teacher” sound in the title of the article. The way Edmond Georgievich lived, what principles he followed, what he taught, what and how he created – all this becomes brighter and clearer in the space of his absence. “Big is seen from a distance…”
I’ll start with the conductor. At the moment of experiencing the loss, I was supported by the audio lectures of the philosopher and theologian A.S. Filonenko . Based on the pedagogy Franco Nembrini , he says that in an era of crisis, when the paradigm of postmodernism is changing to the paradigm of presence, it is the pedagogy of following and witnessing that is the best way to find one’s life. And so it happened to me when I saw how joyfully, easily, beautifully and sparklingly Edmond Georgievich works and teaches. For me, he was that ideal doctor and teacher, just a happy person who I wanted to follow and find something that he owned and that seemed to be something wonderful, filling life with meaning and light. He knew how to infect with his interest, love for psychotherapy, passion for life. I know how many people followed him and found themselves, their profession, their lives.
That is why I call him my godfather in psychotherapy, who revealed to me the beauty and joy of the profession – meeting another person, the immensity of the cosmos of the individual. I said goodbye to boredom, and my apprenticeship and professional life began next to him and his associates.
Edmond Georgievich was a strict teacher. He was implacable to negligence and laziness in mastering the profession. Along with the talent of his students, he valued perseverance, diligence and perseverance. He did not lavish praise, and that is why his assessment was very significant and valuable. Even in science, he supported not so much the scientific idea he shared as the desire of the student to present his own. His confidence in the student can be described by the phrase he uttered at my pre-defense: “All mistakes and all achievements belong to the applicant, whom I, as a supervisor, represent . .. his research and results are his achievement, but also his responsibility.” Next to him it was possible to think, do, prove, work even in those areas to which he was, to put it mildly, ambiguous. But most importantly, I had to be creative and developing, active and responsible. The most important lesson for me was the lesson “do what you are interested in, what you like, and do not betray yourself.”

A significant lesson for me was the lesson of choosing the main thing. Until the last days of his work, Edmond Georgievich considered the main thing to be the discussion of new ideas and ideas, writing articles and a textbook, and teaching. To paraphrase F. Perls , he called everything else in the work “elephant shit”, this concerned “paper cathedral work” – plans, reports, orders, etc. As a head teacher, this sometimes offended me, but now I understand that months pass, years pass, and these “important matters, without which there is no administrative unit – the department” will go away, change or take on a new form, and ideas will give rise to new ideas. It is possible that now the department ceases to be a place where they are born and develop, but I believe that this is a temporary phenomenon and the department will again become a place of disputes, acquisitions and discoveries of scientific thought and new practices.
Edmond Georgievich taught me to see and appreciate the beauty of music, words, video sequences, paintings… The beauty to which he drew my attention was always filled with meaning, a call and an incentive to action. Nothing that was offered to them left indifferent. This could cause different experiences, and this was the main thing – there was a reason for a conversation, even an argument. Human communication, sharing the common or accepting differences – that was the value for Edmond Georgievich. I miss his calls and stories about how the idea came to paint a picture, his desire to know my opinion about jazz improvisation, about the impression of the old film “Fiddler on the Roof” … And just the thought of how lucky I am in this life, allows you to cope with inexpressible sadness. And also the works donated by him, which hang on the wall both at home and in our office with him.
Remembering our joint visits to the academic councils of the University, I continue to learn honesty and courage from my teacher. Edmond Georgievich was not afraid of sharp topics and bold statements, while he always retained respect for his opponent and dignity in defending his views. He fought to the end for the specialty “Child Psychiatry”, the independence of the Department of Child Psychiatry, Psychotherapy and Medical Psychology, which he created and headed for 17 years. His credo was the unity of medical psychology, psychiatry and psychotherapy, the need for a unified educational space for specialists working in child psychiatry. He was very upset by the destruction of this space, but continued, as far as he could, to maintain this approach in teaching in the new conditions.
One more lesson. Edmond Georgievich knew how to create a team. His sensitivity, intuition, insight allowed to gather like-minded people, it was thanks to this that the composition of the department remained stable for many years. Neither disputes, nor resentment, nor disagreements deprived the former employees of respect for the manager, appreciation for the years of creativity spent together. In the professional space, they talk about the school of E.G. Eidemiller, and I really want to preserve not only the memory of her, but also her presence in the modern learning environment.
A lesson in overcoming. Edmond Georgievich presented this lesson to me in the last year of my life. Already being seriously ill, fighting for his life, he continued to do the main thing in his life – he wrote, taught, drew. When I asked him about his well-being, he replied: “Do not care about it … let’s discuss it better …” – and spoke with excitement about the idea that captured him. To live despite limitations and pain… And not just to live, but to remain true to your life credo and live life to the last drop.
The significance of the personality of Edmond Georgievich in the history of psychotherapy is undeniable. He is among the founders of psychotherapy with children and adolescents, marital and family therapy, group psychotherapy of adolescents in the Soviet Union and Russia. And this is also a lesson in innovation and pioneering, a passionate scientist and practitioner, a man who could say that he lived his life. And it is this light that I want to carry and pass on to new generations of doctors and psychologists who have chosen to work with people. I am glad and happy that I witnessed this professional path, and I am proud that I can say that I am a student of MD, Professor Edmond Georgievich Eidemiller.

Edmond Georgievich often, opening a cycle or conducting an introductory lesson, asked the audience: do they know this or that person represented in the portrait? He noted that psychotherapy or psychology are not abstract scientific units. They are a living organism, which is created and maintained thanks to the individual, personal, universal contribution of each of these masters.
He could stop at a portrait of any of these cosmic people and begin his amazing stories about the personality and fate of each, surprisingly remembering dates, names of places, books, discoveries. At the same time, he characterized scientists not in the “dry textbook” system. He could describe each one, focusing in a jeweled way on their subtle uniqueness, through emotions, sounds, smells, or through a vibrant palette of colors.
So, Sigmund Freud and his daughter Anna were presented in the musical eclecticism of the march and nocturne, as well as psychoanalysis, the children’s and adult directions of which are connected and understood only through mutual connections. V.N. Myasishchev is in a bright rainbow of relationships; A.E. Lichko – like the ancient Greek Archimedes, whose “Eureka” – character accentuations; VC. Myager – in the taste of grape tart and thick drink of family psychology and psychotherapy, I.M. Nikolskaya, her student and colleague – with paternal restrained awe and admiration for her Atlantean talent “to seek scientific truth, to work selflessly. ”
For him, the memory of people was important, their titanic creative activity in the system of psychology and psychotherapy, which turns scientific practice into an art that kaleidoscopically rotates many facets of the uniqueness of the human personality, its value in the endless patterns of relationships.
The famous classic of science fiction Isaac Asimov has such a term “psychohistory”. In his works, it is a kind of fictional futurological science that uses mathematical methods to predict the future. Edmond Georgievich had his own “psychohistory”, but instead of mathematics, it contained the idea of remembering people as scientists-attractors, on whose contribution the forecast for the future movement of psychotherapy, psychological thought depended.
And again, returning to the “test” for the listeners about who these people are in the portraits: it was very important for him that the current specialists pay attention to the unique phenomenon of the professional talent of their predecessors. It was important that modern psychotherapists, psychologists, putting on the “magic clothes” of the historical memory of the life and work of the masters, could feel the magic of their scientific inspiration, which can decorate the value of psychological practice, its unique system of helping dialogue of souls. Such clothes will protect from any professional “bad weather”, because such memories “do not wear out.”
