Hello and thank you for taking time to read my ad!
We are a very small home based daycare in the Morrisville/RTP/Cary area. Our rates are comparable to the large day cares in our area but we truly believewe offer a better service because of our very low ratio and loving environment. We come with great references and welcome you to use them as childcare is one of the most important decisions you will make as a parent. I currently have two part-time openings starting July and August 2021. I was a licensed child care provider in the state of WI about 15 years ago, until we moved to NC in 2006. I do run my business as if I am still licensed. I have a handbook with info. available for parents as well as a contract detailing how we care for your child. I have a very low ratio of children. I have a daughter who is 17 & is in 11th grade & 12 year old son in 6th grade. I have a very structured environment I follow on a daily basis. My goal is to give your child the best personalized care and attention while providing a fun and stimulating environment.
I have a degree in Psychology which included course work in Child Psychology.
Thanks again for reading my ad & considering my day care as your child’s home away from home where they can be loved and nurtured in a caring place to call their own.
CPR/SIDS certified.
As mentioned great references available!
Ask about drop-in, temporary & after school care.
Serious inquiries only please!!
Thanks!…

how to earn $8.7 billion without layoffs – RBC

American James Goodnight began his career teaching statistics. Investments in human capital brought him to the market leaders in analytical software and brought a fortune of $8.7 billion

For the 19 years that Fortune magazine has published the World’s Best Employers list, the US company SAS, the world’s largest privately held business analytics software maker, has been featured. This year she took eighth place, and from 2010 to 2014 she was one of the top three, and twice took first place. From the very beginning, the founder and permanent CEO of the company, James Goodnight, set the task of creating conditions for employees that would allow them to realize their potential – a seven-hour working day, cheap dinners with live music, a free clinic and kindergartens. In IT, as it turned out, this approach works. Goodnight, according to the Forbes “real” counter on April 28, he helped to earn a fortune of $ 8.7 billion.

University business

The future founder of SAS was born on January 6, 1943 in Salisbury, North Carolina. James’s father owned a hardware store, where his son often worked part-time after school. But James preferred science to the family business: of the subjects, he loved mathematics and chemistry the most, and it was the chemistry teacher who influenced his choice.

On the advice of a friend, Goodnight entered the University of North Carolina. In 1966, in his sophomore year, he first became acquainted with computers and was delighted with them. “I fell in love with machines that do things for people,” he recalled.

Less than a year later, 24-year-old Goodnight began participating in a project to develop an agricultural data analysis system, which was carried out by a team of specialists from eight universities that received research grants from the US Department of Agriculture. The program, called the Statistical Analysis System (statistical analysis system), laid the foundation for the future company SAS.

The main developer of the program was the university where Goodnight studied. The first full version of SAS for IBM was released in 1972, and at the same time the project lost public funding. By that time, Goodnight had completed his PhD in statistics and was teaching. For a whole year of his work, the young professor received $ 1 – the main thing for him was to have unlimited access to mainframes to work on the project. At first, the National Institutes of Health provided funds for the project, but in 1972 it stopped funding, and the universities themselves began to pay for the work. At the same time, they set the condition that the program should be licensed to private companies and government organizations in order for the project to be self-sustaining.

By 1976, SAS had almost a hundred customers. “We held a SAS user conference in Florida. 350 people came. They really liked something we were working on. And when the conference ended, we decided to leave the university. We could support ourselves without his help,” he recalled in an interview with Forbes. The university, which did not set itself the goal of making a business out of a scientific project, did not mind.

Goodnight, project leader Anthony James Barr, fellow programmer Johnn Soll, and another documentation partner Jane Helwig set up an office in a house directly across from the university. Thus, the SAS company was founded, the purpose of which was to support and further develop the system of the same name.

“Working with Goodnight was torture”

Now there are two people left from the original management of the company – Goodnight and Sull. They are the only owners of it. In 2007, Forbes wrote that Goodnight owned two-thirds of the company, and Saul owned a third. Since then, there has been no information about the change in the structure of the company’s shareholders. Barr, who had an equal share with them, left the business in 1979, selling his stake to the co-founders for $340,000 – after 30 years, Forbes calculated, it would be worth $1 billion. Helwig left the company a few years later.

As Barr later recalled, working with Goodnight was “pure torture” for him. “Jim’s number one motivation is control and absolute superiority … I had to get out of there,” he was quoted by the News & Observer newspaper in 1996. After Barr left, Goodnight made a bet on investment in development. From the very first days, he bet on innovation. From year to year, the two largest expenses of the company are investments in research (at least 20% annually) and maintaining favorable working conditions.

SAS is now the world leader in business intelligence. More than 80,000 public and private organizations around the world use the company’s services, of which 91 are among the top 100 leaders in the 2016 Fortune Global 500 rating.

The systems that the company develops are outwardly similar to traditional ERP systems (enterprise resource planning). It is distinguished from the mass of competitors in the analytical software market by a branded product – SAS Forecasting systems, which automatically make analytical forecasts. ERP systems for the most part are software tools for receiving, collecting, archiving and subsequent visualization of data in the form of standard graphs and tables, but not forecasting.

Goodnight calls these systems obsolete. “Almost every major company in the world has deployed some form of ERP system and then found themselves unable to extract any useful information from it. They cannot predict trends,” financial analyst Sergei Golubitsky quoted the SAS CEO in 2010 in the book Foreign Lessons. SAS software systems, for example, allow banks to predict the behavior of potential defaulters on loans, and retailers to identify attractive locations for new sales outlets. In 2015, SAS, along with IBM, was named by Forrester Wave as one of the leaders in the Big Data predictive analytics market.

Money for education, ballet and refugees

James Goodnight is an active philanthropist whose philanthropic work spans education and culture as well as humanitarian organizations. According to the InsidePhylantrophy portal, Goodnight has directed more than $1 billion in his life to fund educational initiatives, primarily in his home state of North Carolina. In particular, in 1997 he became one of the co-founders of the Carey Academy, an independent school in which technology is maximally integrated into the learning process. He donated at least $5 million to the William and Ida Friday Institute, which develops innovations in education, and another $3 million to North Carolina State University, where he studied.

Goodnight also provides financial support to the Carolina Ballet Theatre, and to the North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences, he donated his collection of stones, which numbered more than 400 samples. According to InsidePhylantrophy, he plans to donate his impressive art collection to the North Carolina Museum of Art.

In addition, SAS worked with the International Organization for Migration in the aftermath of the earthquake in Nepal early last year to “analyze shelter data to improve resource allocation. ” The company provided similar assistance after Typhoon Haiyan in the Philippines 2.5 years ago.

Everything for employees

The founder of SAS has always paid unusually high attention to corporate culture. “Software is an intellectual product. 95% of my assets go home every evening. My job is to create a work environment for them that they want to return to every morning,” said Goodnight. These thoughts came to him when, in the late 1960s, he briefly worked for NASA, a company that installed equipment for ground stations that were supposed to communicate with the capsules of the Apollo spacecraft. Goodnight got into a team where the annual staff turnover was 50%. “There was no attempt to build trust [between NASA and employees]. They used record cards and metal detectors to make sure workers were working their hours and not stealing. NASA management put itself above the rest of the workers: they had a separate parking lot, a lounge and a dining room, ”the authors of the Work / Life Integration Project report on SAS, published in 2001, quoted Goodnight’s impressions.

Goodnight then decided that if he ever got his own business, the conditions would be the opposite. Since the founding of SAS, the company has had an extensive social package. On an area of 1.2 sq. km, which is occupied by the SAS headquarters in the city of Kare (North Carolina), there are two kindergartens, a free medical center and a fitness club, two cafeterias, one of which plays live music, a basketball court. On each floor of the main building there are lounges with free drinks and snacks. On the territory of the headquarters there is a free hairdressing salon, dry cleaning and even a consultation on tax reporting. The company has a 35-hour work week, and management actively encourages its employees not to stay overtime. Goodnight allows its employees to come in at any time and distribute the hours as they see fit. “Creativity is a fickle thing. A flexible schedule encourages people to start their day at the best time for them,” he explained.

The authors of the Work/Life Integration Project report describe SAS Institute as a horizontally managed company: “there are only four levels between the grassroots and Goodnight, which means that it has a large number of direct reports. ” He is called a “silent leader”: on the one hand, the owner encourages his employees to become independent, on the other hand, his presence in the company is constantly felt, most of the key decisions are made by him. SAS executives are fundamentally open to communication with ordinary employees with whom they dine in the same canteen, and Goodnight himself still continues to program.

As Goodnight pointed out in his Harvard Business Review article, while it takes an average of six months to find a single employee, it can take years to fully immerse them in the company’s established environment. Keeping the staff allows you to establish long-term relationships between developers, sales staff and customers and, as a result, increase income and expand the business. According to Fortune, in April 2016, employee turnover was at the level of 4% per year, while the industry average was 20-25%.

Fundamental non-publicity

At the turn of the millennium, when the market for Internet companies was rapidly developing in the United States, Goodnight thought about an IPO. In the fall of 2001, he announced this decision, but amid the collapse of the dot-com market, he canceled the placement until at least 2002. Part of the SAS management, he said, was “generally against the IPO.” “A public company, instead of focusing on customers and its own staff, begins to think only about quarterly profits,” Goodnight was quoted by CNews. In 2002, he polled SAS employees about how they feel about IPOs, 87% were against it. Goodnight did not return to this issue again.

The company does not disclose any financial figures other than revenue, in 2015 it was $3.16 billion. As a private company, SAS is less dependent on stock market fluctuations than public companies. When the collapse of the dot-com bubble 16 years ago bankrupted thousands of companies and threw thousands of IT professionals into the labor market, Goodnight played into his hands. During the crisis of 2007-2009, Goodnight decided not to fire or cut the salaries of employees for a year, while at the same time refusing to increase the salaries of management.

Getting a job at Goodnight’s company is difficult. The applicant will have to pass an interview, the purpose of which is to find out not only his knowledge, but also his attitude to work and money – those motivated solely financially in SAS are not accepted. “Creative people work out of love for challenges. They are overwhelmed by the sense of accomplishment that comes from defeating a task,” says Goodnight.
