[email protected] Weinberg Early Learning Center (WELC) provides a warm, supportive, and inspiring learning environment for every child. Our teaching staff are among the most creative and dedicated early childhood educators in the city, and many of them began with us when the school first opened in 2004.
Children leave the WELC with a strong foundation of learning from both our secular and Judaic curricula. Many of our graduates choose public school, while others find their fit in our local private school. When your child graduates from the WELC, your family will have made new friends, experienced learning on new levels, and connected with one of the leading preschools in Atlanta.
The school year follows an August – May calendar.  Camp Minimac is offered each summer with weekly sessions in June and July.  There’s no better place for your children to enjoy their summer months. Children get to enjoy Sonia’s Playground – complete with an amazing spray ground!
We offer Half Day and Extended Day programs for children ages 12 months through 5 years.   We are open Monday-Friday from 7:30am-6:00pm.  Temple membership is not required for families to enroll their children.
If you have questions or interest in the WELC, we encourage you to reach out to Edye Summerfield, WELC Director. She would be happy to provide you with a tour.

www.internationalpreschools.comEnrollment for the 2011-12 School Year and Preschool and School Age Summer Camps 2011 is now open. At International Preschools, our approach to education is anything but typical. From the exceptionally low teacher to student ratios to the various languages and cultures present in our is Kate Elkins and I am the preschool director of a new preschool at Redeemer Lutheran in Midtown (on Ptree and 4th).   We are planning to open this fall.  I have the registration materials mostly ready and was wondering how to go about connecting us and marketing through the Midtown Neighbors’ Association.

We are also offering some Parent Day Out events (April 20, May 18, and June 15) to the public to create interest and awareness of our new programclassrooms, we are teaching kids to appreciate the world and each other. Our goal is to not only prepare our students for future academic success, but to make a more sizable, even global, impact in our young students’ lives. Our little learners benefit from direct instruction in Spanish, German, Italian and Japanese, while interacting with multilingual teachers and classmates who, in total, speak over 14 different languages.

Each week of our Summer Camps features an exciting topic that we use to integrate all of the academic goals for each student. Our camps are open to students through 3rd grade, and work from the Georgia Performance Standards for the upcoming school year. In addition to content-rich music, art, and kinesthetic learning every day, students in our summer camps delve into the fun of reading, math, science, and social studies related to the summer camp theme.

Primrose School of Midtown:   An Atlanta-based chain of educational child-care centers plans to open its first urban school in the country in Midtown this summer.  Primrose Schools historically has set up shop in the suburbs. But with more and more traffic-weary metro Atlanta families moving from the suburbs intown, Primrose is going where its clients are.  “We are seeing more and more families taking old houses in the neighborhood and restoring them,” Primrose President and CEO Jo Kirchner said. “There’s a pent-up demand for quality child care.”  Primrose School of Midtown is due to open in August in 18,500 square feet of leased space at Colony Square, at the corner of Peachtree and 14th streets. More than 40 families already have pre-registered for fall enrollment, with the occupancy cap set at 194.  (no website available yet).
Garrison Afterschool Program, N. Highland Ave., Virginia Highlands

The new  director just completed her Montessori teacher training.  Garrison Afterschool Program is located in the Church of our Saviour,  opposite the fire station on N.Highland.
http://www.garrisonafterschool.org/index.htmlA letter from the new teaching director of the afterschool  program, Augusta McDonald:
Our aim is to provide quality, homestyle aftercare for the children from  Morningside, Spark, Mary Lin, and Montessori Intown.

Bus transportation is provided from school, the children have half an hour outside (weather permitting) hopscotch, skipping, chatting with each  other, they need some unstructured time right after school to decompress! They then set out at tables a healthy snack that we provide, when everyone is served they all eat together. Attention to “Grace and Courtesy” in the
Montessori tradition is given here.   There is a wonderful very qualified woman that helps with homework so that is not only completed but understood – what a relief! (As numbers grow an  additional teacher would be hired. We also have a pool of volunteers from the church as well as colleges.)   As the children finish homework I will be available to provide enrichment,
my aim is to link each child or small group of children with something that really interests and excites them.   We will take our time exploring all of the fascinating possibilities in their world. We will start with the Greek myths.  So to sum up our aim is to recreate what could happen in an “ideal”home with patient, inspired, energetic parents with no time constraints!

Day School @ Atlanta First United Methodist Church is also opening  (on Peachtree & Ralph McGill) on June 1, 2010. The Day School will accept children from 6 weeks to pre-k age. They will be open from 7 am – 6 pm Monday-Friday.
They are also accepting applications for teachers. For more information, contact dayschool@atlantafirstumc.org.
