Deadly shooting at Thailand child care center
Dozens of children killed in shooting rampage at Thailand day care center
02:48
A former policeman burst into a day care center in northeast Thailand on Thursday, killing dozens of children and teachers and then firing on more people as he fled in the deadliest rampage in the nation’s history. The assailant, who authorities said was fired from the police force earlier this year because of a drug offense, took his own life after killing his wife and child at home.
A witness said staff at the day care locked the door when they saw the assailant approaching with a gun, but he shot his way in. In video posted online after the attack, frantic family members could be heard weeping outside the day care, and one image showed the floor of one room smeared with blood and sleeping mats scattered about. Pictures of the alphabet and other colorful decorations adorned the walls.
In this image taken from video, a distraught woman is comforted outside a child care center, October 6, 2022, in the town of Nongbua Lamphu, northeast Thailand, after a mass shooting that left more than 30 people, primarily children, dead.
Mungkorn Sriboonreung Rescue Group/AP
At least 37 people were killed in the attack, according to police spokesman Archayon Kraithong. Another 12 people were wounded. At least 24 of the dead were children, mostly preschoolers.
“The teacher who died, she had a child in her arms,” a witness, whose name wasn’t given, told Thailand’s Kom Chad Luek television at the scene. “I didn’t think he would kill children, but he shot at the door and shot right through it.”
Police identified the suspect as 34-year-old former police officer Panya Kamrap. Police Maj. Gen. Paisal Luesomboon told PPTV in an interview that he was fired from the force earlier this year because of drug-related offenses.
A mug shot released by the Thailand Criminal Investigations Bureau, CIB, shows the suspected assailant in an attack that started in a child care center in the town of Nongbua Lamphu, northern Thailand, October 6, 2022.

In the attack he used multiple weapons, including a handgun, a shotgun and a knife, Paisel said.
Local police chief Damrongsak Kittiprapha told reporters that the suspect was a sergeant on the force before he was fired, and that the main weapon he used was a 9mm pistol that he had purchased himself.
“We are still investigating all of this and have to learn from it,” he said. “Today is the first day and we don’t have all the details.”
Police have not given a full breakdown of the death toll, but they have said at least 22 children and two adults were killed at the day care in the northeast Thai town of Nongbua Lamphu.

Firearm-related deaths in Thailand are much lower than in countries like the United States and Brazil, but higher than in countries like Japan and Singapore that have strict gun control laws. The rate of firearms related deaths in 2019 was about 4 per 100,000, compared with about 11 per 100,000 in the U.S. and nearly 23 per 100,000 in Brazil.
Last month, a clerk shot co-workers at Thailand’s Army War College in Bangkok, killing two and wounding another before he was arrested.
The country’s previous worst mass shooting involved a disgruntled soldier who opened fire in and around a mall in the northeastern city of Nakhon Ratchasima in 2020, killing 29 people and holding off security forces for some 16 hours before eventually being killed by them.
Thailand’s Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha, who was to travel to the town on Friday, told reporters that initial reports were that the former officer was having personal problems.
“This shouldn’t happen,” he said. “I feel deep sadness toward the victims and their relatives.”

🎭 Saturday Theater in St.
Petersburg
In 1969, Yury Smirnov-Nesvitsky, a famous Leningrad and St. Petersburg theatrical figure, became the author and creator of an unusual theater-club. In his brainchild, he tried to embody all his ideas, which were fundamentally different from what is called the mainstream. He is also the author of many plays for his theater, and if he puts on works by other authors (both little-known and popular classics), he sometimes changes the plot, characters, texts beyond recognition, leaving only the main theme. The theme is the only thing that matters to the head of the theater. Therefore, the theater “Saturday” is a theater of bold directorial experiments, a “special theater”. This will be easily seen by those who purchase tickets to the theater “Saturday” on our website or at the box office.
The first performance of the theater is considered to be the production of “Etudes Based on Known and Unknown”, staged by Nesvitsky’s group. The spectators were then only relatives and friends of young artists – “the guys from the gateway. ” Since then, the theater has been constantly looking for itself, looking for new ways to influence the viewer, new artistic forms. The productions of “Saturday” were perceived by critics as too innovative, too bold and incomprehensible.
Nevertheless, “Subbota” is developing, actively touring. New actors come to the theater, whose names are now thundering all over the country. At 1987 “Subbota” becomes a theater-studio, often travels abroad and more and more loudly declares itself as an unusual phenomenon in the theatrical life of the country.
In 1994, “Subbota” becomes a full-fledged budget theater institution in St. Petersburg. For 4 whole years the theater did not have its own premises, they had to perform at various venues, and rehearse where they had to. Only in 2002 the theater was given the premises of the former workshops of Goznak on Zvenigorodskaya street, where the theater has been operating to this day.
Now the theater is a symbolic place for the theatergoers of the city, buying tickets to the theater “Saturday” is a cherished desire of many, especially when it comes to promising premieres. The theater has repeatedly received theatrical awards, including the Golden Soffit. Saturday is waiting for you!

Residential complex “Subbota” in Moscow
The residential complex “Subbota” is a monolith-brick premium building with a height of 6 to 24 floors, built in the Begovoy district of the SAO of Moscow on Verkhnyaya street in the style of famous metropolitan skyscrapers. The twelve-section house is comfortably hidden in a quiet, cozy place, in the very center of the residential “Stalinist” quarter, which forms the front facade of Leningradsky Prospekt.

Architecture – Yuliy Borisov, Mikhail Ivanchenko, Tatyana Shmeleva; interiors – Julia Tryaskina, Elena Logovatovskaya
Description from architects:
Architecture
The appearance of the house is distinguished by a harmonious combination of many elements of classical architecture: the facades are richly decorated with porticos, balustrades, colonnades, and decorative lighting. The facades are finished with natural Jurassic stone, and the texture of the plinth is highlighted with Iset granite.
The building has 434 apartments with one to five rooms ranging from 45 to 180 sq m, with ceilings from 3.2 to 4.3 m high. There is a large open space on the roof of the complex for entertainment and recreation of the residents of the complex. There are barbecue areas, a workout area, tables for board games, a rose garden, and a dry beach.
Interiors
UNK project has developed a design project for the public areas of the Subbota Residential Complex: the design of entrance groups, elevator lobbies and halls on residential floors. UNK project is the author of the architectural solution for the facades of the residential complex, and the interior design has become a natural continuation of the external appearance of the building.
The house has 12 sections, and it is designed so that the entrance vestibules are combined – one vestibule for 2 sections. Thanks to this, the area of entrance groups is larger, and therefore more comfortable. They have developed soft zones, separate fireplace groups, children’s play spaces.
At the heart of the interior style is dominated by the aesthetics of the “Stalinist empire” with a touch of modernity. So, the characteristic herringbone parquet is created by the natural texture of natural stone. The white background of the walls gives a feeling of lightness and freshness, and the rich color of the chairs brings a charge of vivacity and energy to the interior. The main entrance staircase is also interestingly designed: on its steps we arranged a “lawn”, which becomes a natural continuation of the courtyard. Slender cypress trees add solemnity to the interior.
The complex has three main entrance groups with an area of more than 150 square meters, with a ceiling height of 4.45 meters. In each entrance group there is a reception desk, where a concierge is on duty around the clock, a cozy waiting area with a fireplace and upholstered furniture, as well as a children’s play area. Bookshelves are also arranged here, which can be used by future residents for cross-booking. Panoramic floor-to-ceiling stained glass further expands the space, filling it with light and air, and at the same time connects the interior with the green space of the large courtyard.
Distinguishes other projects from a new interpretation of classical architecture and the architecture of the Stalinist Empire style in the interior. It was interesting to work with such a space using modern furniture and lamps. It was interesting to create the effect of traditional finishing materials – natural stone, plaster and parquet – using modern materials that are easy to install, durable, easy to maintain, but nevertheless look expensive and respectable. First of all, we are talking about large-format porcelain tiles and artificial stone. It was interesting to select works of art and photographs suitable for the mood and spirit to decorate the interiors of the entrance lobbies.
The most difficult thing was to keep all the planned solutions during the implementation, to transfer from the project an exquisite conciseness, corresponding to the status of the house. This required great attention to detail from all participants in the construction process. And here it should be noted the high professionalism of the customer, including thanks to which everything was realized as planned.

what date, history and traditions of the holiday
Traditions of commemoration of the dead exist in every society and religion. In Christianity, they originate from the time of the apostles. According to the Charter of the Ecumenical Orthodox Church, before the onset of the Trinity or Holy Pentecost, a funeral service is performed in churches in memory of all those who have left the world of the living.

The history of the holiday
The origins of Trinity Saturday can be found in biblical texts. In Orthodox symbolism, Meatless Saturday marks the last day before the Second Coming, and Trinity Saturday is the last day of the Old Testament Church before the establishment of new traditions that are associated with Christ. In other words, the memorial day before the Trinity is the forerunner of the birthday of the new Church.
The holiday is dedicated to the commemoration of all those who have passed away: not only relatives, friends, acquaintances, missing people, those who died in wars and catastrophes, but also all those who have died since the beginning of time. Therefore, Trinity Saturday is called Ecumenical. In the regions, the holiday was given its own names. For example, in the Kaluga region this day has long been called the Easter of the Dead or Trinity parents, and in the Kursk region – Spirits Day or Soul Wake.
The ancient Slavs also had a spring-summer memorial day. According to Slavic mythology, at this time the ancestors temporarily left the afterlife and came to the world of the living in the form of trees, grass and flowers. The living were to meet the dead and commemorate them. It was customary to visit cemeteries, decorate burial places with greenery, dine with friends and communicate with the souls of relatives.
Traditions of the holiday
Trinity parental Saturday today is one of the main days of commemoration of deceased relatives, including those who did not go through baptism and all those who died of their own free will. In Orthodoxy, the holiday is considered important, so they prepare for it in advance.
A liturgy is held in the churches, followed by a memorial service. Usually the church service starts at 9:00. Believers come in advance, submit funeral notes, which indicate the names of departed relatives, light candles and turn to God and the saints with prayers for the repose of their souls.
The note must contain the full name in the genitive case. If there is a clergyman among the relatives, his name is written at the very top. On this day, you can order Sorokoust for 40 days, six months or a year, so that the name of a relative is mentioned at church services.
During Trinity Parents’ Saturday, it is allowed to bring lenten food, homemade cakes, sweets, fruits and liturgical wine to church for blessing. For this, memorial tables are specially set up. The consecrated products are then distributed to everyone so that they commemorate the dead. After leaving the temple, believers distribute alms to the poor with a request to pray for their loved ones who left this world.
It is a good tradition on Parents’ Day to visit cemeteries with the whole family.
The Church recommends cleaning up not only the graves of your relatives, but also putting in order unmarked burials. You can arrange a small memorial meal, but food is not left on the graves. Better to pass it on to those in need.
Signs of the holiday
Many traditions of the Trinity parental Saturday have come down to our days from pre-Christian, pagan times. Before the Trinity, women were always forbidden to wash clothes in ponds – they were afraid of mermaids who go out to people just before the holiday. For the same reason, they did not dare to swim and bathe. To avoid trouble, on Trinity Saturday, young people chased mermaids and mermen with screams along the reservoirs.
Before Pentecost on Saturday, an aspen branch was brought into the house. If the next morning the leaves remain green, then everything will be in order, next year no one will get sick or die. If the leaves turn yellow – expect trouble.
There are also other folk omens:
- If a rainbow appears in the sky on parental Saturday, all loved ones will have good health.
- It started raining that day – you can count on a good harvest of berries and mushrooms.
- The day turned out to be hot – expect drought and crop failure.
- Heavy dew has fallen – there will be early frosts.
It was also believed that on this day it is good to plant trees for the well-being of the family.
