Douglas Graham – Diet 80/10/10. Enjoying your way to perfect health, optimal weight and inexhaustible vitality » Page 79 » Online books of all genres to read for free insufficient to provide the required calories. However, there were plenty of coconuts, avocados, and macadamia nuts around, and I used these fatty foods to meet my caloric needs. I was fine for about a month, and then I found that the wounds did not heal as quickly or did not heal at all. nine0003
I got a staph infection simply from eating a lot of fat mixed with large portions of sweet fruit, and my energy supply began to dry up. I could not perform intense physical exercises, and the wounds still did not heal. After about a month of trying to let my body heal itself by eating the same food, I realized that I was preventing it from doing so by eating coconuts, avocados, and macadamia nuts. Therefore, I did a water fast for nine days, rested a lot, and in the end completely healed all wounds and regained my lost strength. nine0003
This showed me once and for all that a low-fat, raw vegan diet is the only path that works for me. Since that fast, I’ve been feeling better every day, eating large amounts of sweet fruit and large low-fat salads in the evenings. I keep my fat percentage between 7 and 13% and have never felt better. Thank you, Douglas, for the science, thanks to which my body blooms and enjoys life!
Julie Wendling, Akron, Ohio
Four years ago I weighed 144 kg, had high blood pressure (199/100) and very high cholesterol. I felt terrible pains in my chest, ringing in my ears, dizziness and aches all over my body. I always slept badly and was miserable in my own body. The doctor said I was teetering on the edge of diabetes; due to chronic lower back pain, I lived on muscle relaxants – and all this at the age of 35!
In 2000, I learned about the Hallelujah Diet, and through it, Dr. Douglas Graham. Together with my mother, we switched to a raw food diet and immediately felt physical improvements. As Health Workers,[127] we formed a support group and invited Dr. Graham to speak to us. After hearing him talk about the benefits of fruits over fats, I decided to limit my intake of nuts, seeds, and oils and increase the amount of fresh fruit. I was always told about the need to avoid fruits because of my excess weight, so at first I was even a little afraid to eat them. One doctor even told me to never eat bananas unless I want to become diabetic! Now I just thrive on bananas. Needless to say, since then Dr. Graham has come to lecture with us several times! He is not only an excellent lecturer, but also a cheerful person, with whom it is a pleasure to play. nine0003
My boys Corbin and Ryan changed their diets with me and have been in good health ever since. Both love it when Dr. Graham comes to visit because he plays tennis with them – and soon they will start beating him! They eat several crates of fruit a week, as well as lots of cheese salads and lightly cooked vegan food. They train daily and compete every weekend in tournaments for the 13 and 10 age groups respectively. Ask them what their favorite food is and they’ll both say, “Banana smoothie!” nine0003
There is something in Dr. Graham’s lectures that motivated us not just to play sports, but to try our best – he said that we must “deserve our fruits.” I am happy to report that four years later I have lost 57 kg, my normal blood pressure is 110/70, and my cholesterol level is 153! I train with all my strength, live a full and rich life, free from pain and ailments!
Dr. Samuel Melkarsky, Roswell, GA
I loved to eat as a child. I’ve never been fat, but I’ve experienced a host of other problems, such as joint pain, lethargy, mood swings, gas and bloating, chills, anxiety, and sometimes severe depression. nine0003
When I became a teenager, I was told that all these difficulties were just part of the process of growing up and that I would “grow out of them.” In my mid-30s, I still wanted to grow out of my problems, but they didn’t go away and instead gradually got worse.
I grew up as an athlete, competed, and after college I decided to participate in an amateur bodybuilding competition. In 1998, at the age of 25, I was on the second step of the podium “Mr. Atlanta Bodybuilding Championship” in Atlanta, Georgia. nine0003
To the audience, I seemed like a tough guy, but that was only a superficial impression. On the inside, I wasn’t nearly as great, and that became evident in the weeks following the competition. It was then that my typical symptoms from childhood and adolescence began to worsen, superimposed on intestinal pain and problems with the genitourinary system, including prostatitis.
Prostatitis is a condition in which the prostate gland (the chestnut-like organ located under the bladder in men and surrounding the urethra) becomes inflamed and irritated. Prostatitis can lead to impaired urination and sexual function. nine0003
It became clear to me that I had this problem when, several times, with a strong desire to relieve myself, I was unable to do so. At that time, it was the most terrible experience for me. I asked the opinion of the urologist, who confirmed the diagnosis of chronic prostatitis. I asked about the causes of this condition and received the answer: “We are not really sure, but it seems that it is caused by a set of infections that affect the part of the body where the prostate gland is located.” When I asked if there could be a connection between nutrition, bowel pain, poor motility, and my prostate problems, the doctor simply replied, “I think it could be.” nine0003
I was determined to find the cause and fix it, and do it without drugs! While searching for ways to restore my failing health, I discovered the science of natural hygiene. By applying the principles of this true science of health care as part of the rehabilitation process, I succeeded in some way in combating the source of the problem, and also prevented the development of other ailments. I already had various signs and symptoms of impending cancer, and I was already in the age group at risk for testicular cancer, despite the fact that several doctors told me: “You are too young for such problems.” nine0003
A year after the competition, I already felt better, but not 100%. In matters of restoring health, I wanted only an excellent result. It was during this period at a Rho Passion event that I met Dr. Douglas Graham. Dr. Graham gave me extensive dietary advice. He explained the concept of a raw vegan diet in simple terms and everything fell into place for me. I realized that despite many healthy and beneficial changes in my life, my diet still required some adjustments. My approach to food as a child and during bodybuilding competitions was not healthy, as the subsequent illness and discouragement showed. nine0003
After switching to a low-fat, raw vegan diet and putting into practice the lifestyle principles Dr. Graham shared with me, my body was finally back to optimal health and wellness. Dr. Graham showed me that pumping yourself up with health is much more important than just pumping up your muscles[128].
I still love to eat. The difference is that now after eating I do not suffer from the usual symptoms and discomfort. As a doctor to a doctor – thank you so much, Dr. Graham, for your help! nine0003
Lein Smithheisler, Nashville, TN
I didn’t switch to a raw food diet because of any specific disease or animal rights concerns. I was young, in good shape, emotionally balanced, surrounded by a loving, if sometimes a little crazy family. I still don’t fully understand why I became a raw foodist. It just became, and more often than not it looks like a curiosity in the raw food community.
And yet, I have a feeling that most have gone through a similar experience where they just happened upon the idea of eating raw foods. I want these people to know that a healthier lifestyle is what they need. However, I don’t want anyone to repeat my mistake of following a high-fat, raw-food diet with dehydrated foods.
