My children have been at Mt. E since the first day the doors opened. I am so happy and proud to see how well they have done. Having had both great and bad daycare experiences previously, I was concerned about finding the right school when we moved to Kennesaw. I visited several daycare centers in the area and was not impressed. Then I came across Mt. Elizabeth’s website. They were still under construction but Rob and Ann met with me and my husband and took us on a tour and we knew it was the right place for our babies. The facility is clean and the teachers are AMAZING! Ms Corinne, Ms Shequila, Ms Terre, everyone is fabulous. I feel like my kids are not only being taught well, but they are actually loved. Every school has growing pains and staffing issues from time to time. But, the thing I love about Mt. E is that I can talk to Ann or Rob and my concerns are always addressed immediately and we work together to do what is best for the children. My children and I highly recommend Mt. Elizabeth!LaToy Sawyer

I’ve had the pleasure of working at Mt. Elizabeth Academy for six months now. For the first time in ten years, I can honestly say that I look forward to coming to work everyday. Ann and Rob are two of the most genuine, caring, and respectful people for whom I have worked. Their extended background in education and love of children shines throughout the school. Many a time I’ve seen Ann in the classroom, on the floor, with children piled in her lap, while she reads to them and plays with them. They truly care about each and every child and their staff. They go above and beyond to make certain that every classroom is equipped with all the things a child and teacher could possibly need to foster fun learning and ensure safety. When I chose Mt. Elizabeth as my home away from home, I was not only choosing for myself, but for my son as well. His health and well-being comes first and I couldn’t imagine him being happier anywhere else.Terre Davidson

We started our 8 week old baby at Mt. E and loved every second of her there. The Brightwheel app they use keeps you updated with pictures, diaper changes, and everything your child does throughout the day to keep your mind at ease. They taught our 1 year old sign language and provide Spanish classes to keep our daughter learning. The entire Mt. E staff takes care of our children as their own. HIGHLY RECOMMEND SEND YOUR KIDS HERE.Courtney Gilbert

Mt. Elizabeth Academy is a GREAT school, and like any other facility it has it’s pros & cons. However, from a personal experience there are more pros which contributes to the progression of the school. I worked as the private pre-k teacher (over a year ago), and was one of the 1st hires.
Unfortunately, personal issues took place in my life that affected my passion in teaching, along with the high potential the directors saw in me when I was first hired. One thing I could never do is speak badly about Ann & Rob because they were always concerned, encouraging, and doing their best to maintain a school of excellence. I thank them for their honesty, and for doing what they felt was best to do for the success of the class, although I felt it was personal and unfair at the time.
Mt. E was indeed my stepping stone for growth and opportunity, and if it had not been for the honest wake-up call the Godley’s gave me, I wouldn’t be where I am now, back in the classroom, teaching passionately with much more to offer my elementary students.
* I HIGHLY recommend MT.E for parents looking for an amazing school to place their child(ren) and/or those looking for a great place to work with a passion & love for children.Subricca Hart

Both of my children attended Mt. Elizabeth- my son from 18mo – 3.5 years and my daughter from 12 weeks – 18 months. The day we had to leave was the saddest – we moved out of state and I wish we could have moved everyone at Mt. Elizabeth with us!! My kids both thrived from the intimate class sizes and age appropriate curriculum. Every staff member knew and loved both of my kids. This facility takes childcare, education, cleanliness and security seriously!Brianna Lane

Title | Bachelor | Master But this city, half an hour north of Atlanta, is unique: is the only place in America where owning your own handgun is mandatory. . In 1982, the Kennesaw City Council unanimously passed an ordinance requiring households to own at least one firearm with ammunition. The law passed by the local authorities states that its main purpose is “to protect the safety and general welfare of the city and its inhabitants.” earlier this year in Moreton Grove, Illinois, which banned guns within the city. “It was official, but we wanted to protest,” recalls Fred Bentley, a lawyer who was 56 when he wrote the ruling. You can easily see that this charming southerner in a gray suit and a spotless white shirt with a tied chintz tie is equipped with a . Just in case, a decorative Bess Brown – a revolutionary era gun – stands at the door of his office. Residents of Kennesaw were outraged not only by Morton Grove’s legislative attack on the Second Amendment to the Constitution (which gives all Americans the right to bear arms), but also – “mostly slobbers from the press demanding legislative restrictions against the “evil of guns”, as Robert Jones says , president of the Kennesaw Historical Society and owner of a .357 Magnum pistol. The American Civil Liberties Union disputed Kennesaw’s ruling as unconstitutional, but a federal court upheld the ruling, although it ordered the city to add an exemption clause for conscientious objectors, criminals, the mentally retarded, and people who cannot afford a gun Jones says: “In 1982 it was a rural community of about 5,000 people. The whole city was very conservative and about 95 percent of the people already owned guns anyway, so the decision was a very symbolic law.” Indeed, the law does not contain a sanction in the form of a fine for violation, and no one has ever been brought to court for not owning a weapon. Local police estimate that only 50 percent of households have guns. But almost 30 years after the law was passed, it is still out of action and still popular, not least because Kennesaw’s crime rate has remained disproportionately low while the city’s population has grown from 5,000 to 1982, to almost 35,000 now. According to the latest FBI statistics, Kennesaw recorded 31 violent crimes—mostly robberies and aggravated assaults—in 2008. In other local cities of similar size, the numbers were significantly higher, with 127 in Dalton and 188 in Hinesville. For property crimes – mostly thefts – Kennesaw recorded 555 while Dalton had 1,124 and 1,802 Hinesville. Samantha Ellis, 26, Kennesaw resident, owns Lightweight Kimber Ultra Carry 0.45 “Firearms are involved in less than 2 percent of the total crime in these areas,” confirms Craig Graydon, a police lieutenant who served in Kennesaw for 24 years. “This gun law puts a lot of emphasis on the importance of fighting crime. ” Although it will give liberal politicians heartburn while working in the “gun” Kennesaw. Nick’s Guns – stocked with over 300 weapons in stock, from tiny pink handguns to huge black assault rifles – has been a brisk business since Obama’s election. What is the Battle of Mount Kennesaw? The Battle of Kennesaw Mountain ( The Battle of Kennesaw Mountain ) took place on June 27, 1864 during the Battle of Atlanta during the American Civil War. During the battle, one of the most impressive frontal attacks was made by General William Sherman against General Joseph Johnston’s position in the South Tennessee Army. The battle ended with a tactical defeat for Sherman’s army. In the 1864 campaign against Atlanta, Sherman tended to flanking Johnston’s army, each time forcing the enemy to retreat from a fortified position. These battles resulted in minor casualties on both sides. In two months, Sherman advanced 70 miles and finally was stopped near Marietta, Georgia, where the southerners erected fortifications on Mount Kennesaw. Here Sherman decided to change tactics and ordered a massive frontal assault on June 27, 1864. General James McPherson led a diversionary attack at the northern tip of Mount Kennesaw, while General John Logan attacked Pigeon Hill to the southwest of the mountain. At this time, George Thomas launched a powerful attack on Cheetham Hill in the center of the Confederate positions. Both attacks were repulsed with heavy losses, but General Scofield’s demonstrative attack achieved some success, forcing the southerners to change positions once again, which, in turn, led to the removal of General Johnston from his post.
BackgroundIn March 1864, Ulysses Grant was promoted to lieutenant general and appointed commander in chief of the federal army. He proposed a strategy of constant, numerous strikes against the Confederacy, which should prevent the enemy from transferring armies from direction to direction and strengthening one army at the expense of another. Mead’s army of the Potomac was to attack Lee’s army and advance on Richmond, while Sherman’s army was to advance from Chattanooga to Atlanta. Both Grant and Sherman hoped to destroy the enemy armies in open battle, and the capture of cities was a secondary goal for them. This strategy was advocated by President Lincoln throughout the war, but Grant was the first to actively support the idea. However, as the campaign progressed, the political importance of Richmond and Atlanta grew and affected the strategy. By 1864, Atlanta had become fundamentally important. The city of 20,000 was at an important railroad crossing and was the industrial center and arsenal of the Confederacy. Atlanta was called the “Gate of the South”, its capture opened the way for the northerners to the deep rear of the enemy. The capture of Atlanta was to influence the course of the 1864 presidential campaign. Grant ordered Sherman to “move against Johnston’s army, break it up and penetrate as far as possible deep into the enemy territory, inflicting the maximum possible damage to their military resources. ” Campaign progressMain article: Battle of Atlanta Sherman started the campaign on May 7, 1864. Three armies marched south from Chattanooga. Sherman led a diversionary attack on Johnston’s position at Rocky Rice Ridge, and McPherson’s Army of Tennessee outflanked Johnston’s left flank, advancing on Resaka and targeting the railroad that was supplying the Confederate army. Unfortunately for Sherman, McPherson ran into a small enemy force on the outskirts of Resaka and retreated to Snake Creek Gap, missing his chance to surround the enemy army. Sherman moved his army towards Resaka and Johnston moved his positions there. The Battle of Resaca took place on May 14-15 but was unsuccessful and Sherman again outflanked Johnston, forcing him to retreat. A small skirmish took place off Adairsville on May 17, and a larger fight took place on May 18-19.May near Cassville. Johnston planned to break Sherman’s parts apart, but Hood showed unusual caution and did not attack according to the plan, fearing the environment. As a result, Johnston again withdrew troops. Johnston’s army took up defensive positions at Allatuna Pass south of Cartersville, but Sherman again outflanked it on the left, temporarily moving away from the railroad, which was his main supply line. Johnston was forced to leave his comfortable position and meet Sherman in the open. Fierce but inconclusive fighting occurred on May 25 at New Hope Church, on May 27 at Pickets Mill, and on May 28 at Dallas. On June 1, heavy rains spoiled the roads and Sherman was forced to return to the railroad line for ammunition. Johnston erected a new line of fortifications on June 4 north of Marietta, along Lost Mountain, Pine Mainten and Brush Mountain. On June 14, after 12 days of heavy rain, Sherman was able to move forward again. Finding the enemy on Pine Mountain, Sherman ordered an artillery bombardment to begin. As a result, General Leonidas Polk was killed (William Loring took over the corps), and Johnston withdrew his troops and dug in at positions near Mount Canneso and Little Canneso. Hood’s corps launched an unsuccessful attack on June 22 near Peter Kolb’s farm. Sherman found himself in a difficult situation. It was stationed 15 miles from Atlanta, but could not continue with the bypass strategy due to poor road conditions. The only possible supply line (the railroad) went to Atlanta past Mount Kennesaw, where Johnston’s army was stationed. Sherman reported to Washington: “Here the whole area is turned into one big fort, Johnston has almost 50 miles of trenches with notches and artillery batteries here. Our positions are close and skirmishes take place constantly, with the participation of artillery. As soon as we arrive at one position, the enemy is already ready on his own. Kennesaw is the key to this whole country.” Sherman decided to break the stalemate by attacking Johnston at Mount Kennesaw. On June 24, the order was given to attack in the morning, June 27 at 08:00. Side ForcesSherman’s force, about 100,000 strong, was consolidated into three armies: General James McPherson’s Tennessee Army, George Thomas’s Cumberland Army (Howard’s IV Corps, Palmer’s XIV Corps, Hooker’s XX Corps, and Elliot’s Cavalry Corps) and a small army Ohio (consisting of the 23rd Corps) of General John Scofield. The main enemy was the Confederate Tennessee Army of Joseph Johnston, who replaced Braxton Bragg after the failure at Chattanooga in November 1863. The army, 50,000 strong, consisted of the infantry corps of General William Hardy, John Hood, Leonidas Polk, and the cavalry corps of Joseph Wheeler. BattleFederal trenches at the foot of Mount Kennesaw Sherman ordered Scofield to extend the front of the army to the right in order to force Johnston to also stretch the front and weaken his line of defense. McPherson was then to launch a diversion attack on the far left, along the northern outskirts of Marietta and the northeast slopes of Mount Kennesaw. Meanwhile, Thomas’s army was to make the main attack against the enemy’s fortifications in the center of the line, and Scofield was to make a diversionary attack on the right flank, somewhere near Powder Springs Road. At 08:00 on June 27, federal artillery began a heavy bombardment of enemy positions with 200 guns, and Confederate artillery returned fire. Lieutenant Colonel Joseph Fullerton wrote: “Kennesaw smoked and blazed with fire, like a volcano like Etna.” When the federal army moved forward, the southerners immediately realized that an attack on a front of 8 miles could only be a demonstration in the mass. The first attacks began at about 08:30, when General Morgan Smith’s three brigades (from Logan’s Corps) advanced on Loring’s Corps position at the southern edge of Little Kennesaw and Pigeon Hill. With luck and the capture of Pigeon Hill, Loring’s corps would have been cut off from the main army. However, three brigades were advancing across open, unfamiliar terrain, and there were only 5,500 of them against 5,000 southerners in the trenches. Joseph Lightburn’s brigade was advancing to the right of Smith. They had to advance through swampy terrain, and they stopped in front of the fortifications on the southern slope of Pigeon Hill. They failed to break through the line of defense. To the left of Smith, the brigades of Charles Walcutt and Gilles Smith passed over rough terrain and exchanged fire with the enemy, but also did not storm the fortifications. General Logan decided that in these skirmishes he was losing people to no avail and ordered a retreat. 2 miles south, General Thomas’s troops were somewhat behind schedule, but still began their main attack against Hardy’s corps around 0900. 2 divisions of the Cumberland Army, about 9,000 men, under the command of General John Newton and Jefferson Davis, advanced in marching columns on the positions of Benjamin Cheetham and Patrick Clayburn, who fortified what is now known as “Cheetham’s Hill”. On the left, George Wagner’s federal brigade went on the attack, but could not overcome the notches and entered into a firefight. Charles Harker’s brigade was advancing on the right – he attacked Alfred Vaughn’s brigade, but was repulsed. While trying to attack again, Harker was mortally wounded. To the right of Newton’s division, Davis’ division was advancing, also built in columns. Such a formation made it possible to concentrate large forces in a narrow area, but it also facilitated the work of enemy artillery. The division was ordered to approach unnoticed, break into the enemy positions and give a signal to the reserve divisions, which should move forward, seize the railway and cut the enemy army in two. Colonel McCook’s brigade went down to the river, crossed the field, and began to climb Cheatham’s Hill. They came within a few yards of the enemy’s trenches, and then stopped, lay down, and engaged in a firefight. But the return fire of the Confederates was too strong and McCook’s brigade lost two commanders (McCook himself and his second-in-command, Colonel Oscar Harmore), almost all the officers and a third of their entire personnel. McCook was killed when, with a drawn saber, he climbed onto the parapet of the enemy and shouted: “Surrender, traitors!” Colonel John Mitchell’s brigade advanced to the right of McCook and suffered the same losses. After a fierce hand-to-hand fight, the feds withdrew, dug in, and continued to exchange fire until 22:45. Both sides named this section of the battlefield “Deadly Corner”. To the right of Davis’s division, John Gary’s division (From Hooker’s 20th Corps) was advancing, but it did not join Davis’ attack. Farther to the right was Scofield’s army, which had some success. Scofield made a demonstrative attack and managed to get two brigades across Ollace Creek almost unopposed. This maneuver, supported by that of Stoneman’s cavalry, created a real threat of outflanking the Confederate left flank. ConsequencesSherman’s army lost approximately 3,000 men, Johnston lost 1,000. However, the federal commander-in-chief was not embarrassed by these losses and twice suggested that Thomas repeat the attack. “Our losses are small compared to those in the east,” he said. Thomas replied that “one or two more such assaults would use up this army” (One or two more such assaults would use up this army) The attack at Kennesaw was not Sherman’s first major frontal attack, but it was his last. He broke off his streak of successful flank maneuvers, in part to disorientate Johnston. In the report, he wrote: “I feel that the enemy has come to believe that I never storm fortified positions. Everyone expects maneuvers from me. If the army wants to fight successfully, it should not adhere to patterns, it should choose any tactics that promise success I wanted, more for moral effect, to make a successful frontal attack on enemy positions, and success could bring great benefits in the future.” Kennesaw is generally considered a major defeat for the Confederate army, but Richard McMurry writes that “Tactically, Johnston won a marginal victory in the Loring and Hardy defenses. But Scofield’s success, however, gave Sherman great advantages, and the Confederate commander was quickly able to exploit them.” The enemy spent 5 days in position, but on July 2, due to good weather, Sherman sent the Army of Tennessee and Stonemann’s cavalry around the federal left flank and Johnston was forced to retreat from Mount Kennesaw and prepare new positions on Smyrna. TodayThe site of the battle is now part of Kennesaw National Park, and the remains of the trenches of both armies can still be seen there, as well as individual rifle cells of the northerners.
