Morning Activities- 9:00-11:30am

Natascha Kampusch’s Story – Michael Leidig » Page 4 » Audiobooks – Online Library

Like the person she spent her formative years with, she didn’t shine at school, no matter what her parents might say. Her intelligence was above average, but she was a mediocre student: in fact, she was abducted on her way to school, when she was walking earlier than usual due to extra German classes. Neighbors and mothers of her school friends spoke of her as a lovely girl, but they did not find anything outstanding in her. She was capable of crafts, and in kindergarten, when she was four years old, she sculpted a clay figurine, which is still kept by her father. nine0003

Alt Win Nursery (Old Vienna) at Leopoldauerplatz 77, in the 21st district of Vienna, where Natasha used to go after school, is only a two-minute walk from the Brioschiweg Volksschule where she studied. Josephine Guttarsh, director of this kindergarten, has worked there for the last thirty years. At the mention of the name Natasha, she smiles and speaks of her with tenderness:

I remember Natasha very well, although I have not seen her for many years. She was a very bright child, very knowledgeable about the world and, in a sense, about herself. She was definitely quite self-confident and arrogant, but in a good way. She was a nice girl and we never had any problems with her. nine0008

Children go to our kindergarten until the age of ten, because their parents finish work late. They do school lessons here, and Natasha has always done well with them. Of course, sometimes she spent too much time playing games, and therefore she did not have enough time for lessons, but this is normal.

She really liked to do creative work – to draw and, as far as I remember, she also liked to sculpt from plasticine. She was a very active girl, constantly running around and loved to play outside in the garden. nine0008

I think she spent a lot of time with adults, with neighbors and friends of her parents, and therefore could talk like an adult. In my opinion, she developed quite early due to the fact that her parents did not live together, and because she often interacted with adults.

Natasha was very witty, liked to joke and got along well with everyone. She had many friends. She wasn’t the type to sit alone in a corner.

However, at times Natasha was sad, and, by God, I don’t know how to explain it, there were no obvious reasons, just such periods came. Perhaps it was not easy for her at home, because of the divorce of her parents and other things. I didn’t think much about it then, because many children who find themselves in similar conditions face the same problems, and this is more or less normal. nine0008

But Natasha was also very impulsive. Sometimes she had violent skirmishes with her mother when she took her away. Usually Natasha came and went by herself, because her school was just around the corner, but sometimes her mother still came for her during the day. I remember how they argued in raised tones.

But that didn’t bother me: it happens all the time. I thought that she had problems at home, but this did not manifest itself in any way with us. She didn’t openly mention anything. nine0008

Natasha sometimes argued with her dad – nothing serious – when he happened to be late. She was very stubborn and quite wayward, but certainly not in a bad way.

I remember that last day very well, it was Friday. She was very active, even more than usual. Her father was picking her up as they were going to Hungary for the weekend, and she was a little upset that he was late. She wasn’t angry with him, nothing of the sort, she just couldn’t wait to see him. Her dad was often late due to the fact that he had a lot of work. And Natasha always looked forward to trips to Hungary. nine0008

Natasha was close to her half-sisters, Claudia, born in 1968, and Sabina, born in 1970, and now, as an aunt, even more, but they could hardly protect her then from the feeling of alienation that she must have experienced. Quarrels between parents upset the sensitive Natasha. She loved them both, but the neighbors tend to think that she was more of a daddy’s girl. And there is information that Mrs. Sirny often left Natasha to herself, every day exacerbating her sense of resentment. nine0003

Experts have long been warning about the possible negative consequences of parental quarrels in front of children. A recent study by the University of Rochester, New York, found that children suffer not only from the visible — throwing objects, yelling, and cursing — but also from the subtle, pent-up resentment found in families who pride themselves on never having arrange public fights in front of children.

Penny Mansfield, director of marriage and partnership organization One Plus One, says, “Parents who are distracted by their own conflicts tend to show less concern for their children.” One of the reactions of some children, she says, is to imitate the fights they witness. “They think that’s how you treat people. However, it is potentially more damaging when a child decides, “Because dad is so angry with mom, he might be just as angry with me.” Their self-confidence is threatened.” nine0003

Ludwig admits that there were quarrels and tensions, but he claims he does not know if this had a detrimental effect on Natasha. He says he hopes not. He found happiness with his new wife Dahlia, 48, a Hungarian schoolteacher, and now lives in a house in the same area where he once lived with Natasha and Brigitte. Ludwig inherited it, but was forced to sell it and now pays the rent – a consequence of the loss of business due to the kidnapping of Natasha. nine0003

What else can I tell you about her? he asks, straining his memory. Natasha was a very smart and creative child. I remember that at the age of ten she could already attract the attention of six people at the same time. She just talked and talked, entertaining and amusing everyone. She was a real talker, very friendly and outgoing from a very young age.

She had many friends in the neighborhood and at school. She liked going to school, and I think she did well there too. She loved all things. nine0008

He said that she was very happy with a kitten that was given to her shortly before the kidnapping.

Natasha often stayed at home alone and spent a lot of time with the kitten she truly loved. He hadn’t grown up yet when she disappeared. My mother had an old cat, I think her name was Mushi. She littered, and we gave one of the kittens to Natasha. She was very happy and fed him milk from a bottle.

In Hungary, I had a friend, Hannes Barch, owner of the Viennese company Planet Music. He invited all the famous rock bands on tour. Natasha met some of them. She liked rock music. You know, when my finances were good, when life was better, we drove the Wörthersee [6] five or six times a year.

Kindergarten and school in London: where to send the child –

Download: This post is available as a handy PDF document that you can take anywhere. Receive a copy of this post by email.

In this article we will talk about different types of educational institutions, about who can count on free education, and what difficulties await parents in choosing a kindergarten and school for their child.

The standard of living and, accordingly, the cost of services in the British capital is very high. In fact, not even all Englishmen who have a good job can pay for their child’s stay in kindergarten. For this service in London you have to pay about 2 thousand pounds a month. The situation is similar with schools.

Kindergartens in London

London kindergartens are divided into two groups: private and public. A full day of staying in a private kindergarten costs almost 2,000 pounds a month. The right to a free stay in a kindergarten in London arises after the child reaches the age of 3 years. The state provides all children (including children of illegal immigrants) with 15 hours of kindergarten attendance per week. It can be a garden at a public school or a private kindergarten. It is practically impossible to arrange a child in a private preschool institution for only 15 hours – in the kindergarten they are forced to take additional paid hours. In addition, the fact that from the age of 4 the child will have to be sent to school speaks in favor of attending a public kindergarten in London, and attending a kindergarten at the chosen school adds to the chances of getting there. nine0003

To enroll your child in kindergarten, you need to send an application to several public schools in your area in the year that the child turns 3 years old. The deadlines for applying and starting training depend on the date of birth of the baby. In the case of a positive decision, the school may offer a part-time or full-day stay in kindergarten. Usually a full day is offered to low-income families from Europe.

Schools in London

To begin with, let’s clarify that only residents of the UK can count on a place in a public free school in London, while private education is available to everyone. Now let’s figure out how to arrange a child in a free school if you are a resident. nine0003

The bad news is that most of London’s free schools are not of high quality. They don’t really follow discipline here, they practically don’t give homework. In general, the child is left to himself. This is partly due to the fact that family people, as a rule, leave the capital when a child is born or earn enough money to pay for private education.

Another disadvantage of public education is that only those children who live within walking distance from it can go to a particular free school in London. Each school has designated zones from which students are recruited. Some parents rent rooms near the school in order to be eligible to send their child to school, but these illegal schemes are often exposed. Fraudsters face a fine and even a suspended sentence. As a rule, the worst schools have the widest walking distances. nine0003

Education in a private school in London, of course, is considered prestigious and of high quality. British private schools operate according to the boarding scheme, when the child both studies and lives in one place, as well as day-time education institutions familiar to Russians. Educational institutions can be purely female, male or mixed.

By the beginning of the academic year in September 2014, the cost of education in private schools in London has increased again. Today, the amount that you have to pay for the education of a child during the year on a daily basis, is an average of 14 thousand pounds. nine0003

You can choose both a private and a public school based on reviews on forums and thematic resources, on the ratings of GCSE and A-Level exams.
