Christmas in our kindergarten
By tradition, on January 16, 208, a wonderful holiday was held in our kindergarten – Christmas! The brightest and most joyful holiday for Christians around the world. The brightest and most cheerful! “The Nativity of Christ”, a holiday almost forgotten in the recent past, is now returning again and every year more and more fully enters our lives.
So we decided to tell our pupils about the history of the Nativity of Christ holiday. The presenter, Ivanova Galina Alexandrovna, told the children in an interesting way about what happened many years ago in the city of Bethlehem. nine0003

We showed the children a presentation about the Nativity of Christ, and at the end we watched a cartoon about the Christmas miracle.

In the 12th century, pilgrims were shown the place “where the Mother of God got down from her donkey, felt that the time had come for her birth. There is a large stone here, and the Mother of God lay down on this stone when she got off the donkey. Then she got up from the stone, walked to the cave and then gave birth to Christ, in this cave. The area looks completely nondescript, and it is hard to guess that the main Orthodox church of Bethlehem is located here.
The place of the Nativity of Christ has long been consecrated by a temple. This basilica, built in the 4th century by Empress Helen Equal to the Apostles, unlike most Palestinian churches, was never destroyed, and not by chance. In 614, the Persian invasion devastated the Holy Land. The Persians did not spare a single Christian structure; and the Church of the Nativity would have suffered the same fate if not for the fresco that adorned the facade of the building. Seeing on it three wise men in Persian clothes, who came to worship the Divine Child, the Persians did not dare to destroy the basilica, revering it from now on as their shrine. The image was painted in Russia and donated to the Basilica of the Nativity of Christ by the Russian imperial house. The robe of the icon was made from the dress of the Martyr Elizabeth (Grand Duchess Elizabeth Feodorovna Romanova), after she was healed from a serious illness, praying before her.

“Above the Cave of the Nativity of Christ,” hegumen Daniel continues his description, “a large church was built in the shape of a cross, the top was vaulted with lancet vaults, the church was covered with tin, all painted with mosaics, it has eight round marble pillars; paved with slabs of white marble; The church has three doors. The steps leading to the cave are really nicely done. It is quite possible that these are the very steps that Abbot Daniel descended at the beginning of the 12th century.
Abbot Daniel calls the Throne, which is directly above the place of the Nativity of Christ, “a meal”; to venerate the Star, pilgrims crawl under it.

The Cave of the Nativity itself is long, narrow and dark. Its walls are black after one of the fires, and partially hung with tapestries blackened by time. Every day at 6 o’clock in the morning in the cave of the Nativity of Christ Orthodox Greeks and Arabs celebrate the Divine Liturgy; The service is in two languages at the same time. At 7.30 the Orthodox give way to the Catholics; after them the Armenians serve.
In 2009, we had the opportunity to pray in this extraordinary place. There were very few parishioners, except for eight people from our Russian group, only two or three people. Continuing the story about the cave of the Nativity, Abbot Daniel mentions “under a stone rock – a manger in which they put Christ after birth, wrapped in rags. He endured everything for our salvation. The manger stands close to the place of birth in three fathoms, in one cave, painted with mosaics and beautifully paved with marble slabs.
