The Arlington Independent School District covers most of Arlington and most of Tarrant County and Grande Prairie. The area serves the smaller towns of Pantego and Dalworthington Gardens as a whole. In December 2012, Dr. Marcelo Cavazos was appointed superintendent of the Arlington Independent School District after serving as interim superintendent for six months. [2]
History
Arlington High School was the only white school in the district until Sam Houston High School opened in 1963. The area was desegregated in 1965. Lamar High School, the third high school, opened in 1970. Bowie High School served as the district’s fourth high school, [7] opening in 1973. [8]

As of the 2010-2011 school year, the estimated value of property in the area was $18,762,592,000. [1] The service tax rate was $0.104 and the bond tax rate was $0.030 per $100 of assessed value. [1]

In 2011, the school district was rated “Academically Acceptable” by the Texas Education Agency. [5] 49% of Texas counties received the same rating in 2011.
