January 17th is Children’s Invention Day all over the world. You might think that this is more of a joke holiday. But then answer, who invented ice cream on a stick, fur headphones and even Braille? Yes, yes, it was the children who invented all this.
Many of the inventions we use to this day were actually children.
Take, for example, popsicle on a stick. It is believed that this delicacy was invented by an eleven-year-old American boy Frank Epperson at the beginning of the 20th century. It is said that he accidentally left a glass of lemonade with a stirring stick on his doorstep the night before. Frost hit at night, and the next morning the boy found in a glass not lemonade, but an icy fruit cylinder with a frozen stick. So at 19In 05, a prototype popsicle on a stick appeared. And such an accessory fashionable among modern youth as fur headphones turns out to be even older than the popsicle. They were invented back in the nineteenth century (or rather, in 1873) by a fifteen-year-old teenager Chester Greenwood. He was very fond of skating, but he did not like to wear a hat. And so it occurred to him to make such a device that would help him protect his ears from the cold, but at the same time not put on a hat. This idea was so liked by others that in 1877, eighteen-year-old Chester Greenwood filed a patent for an invention and launched the production of fur headphones. nine0005
But if the above-mentioned inventions are, so to speak, entertaining, then it is really difficult to overestimate such a useful invention as a font for blind people. And it was invented in 1821 by the Frenchman Louis Braille, the fifteen-year-old son of a shoemaker. As the basis for the invention, he took the type that the military used to read reports in the dark.
And there are plenty of similar examples. Plasticine, a trampoline, a snowmobile, fingerless gloves, flippers for swimming that are worn on the hands, and many others are also the fruits of the creativity of young inventors. nine0005
As you can see, the Day of Children’s Inventions is not a joke holiday, but a date when we can congratulate all young inventors and thank them for ideas that make our lives better!
Our pupils today tried to create a high-speed lunar capsule for Dunno and his friends, on the control panel and with a speed switch.

nine0002 Hello, I’m Morgan Middleton! I was born in Chester County, Pennsylvania but also lived in Southern California. In 2014, I received a bachelor’s degree in child and adolescent education from Pennsylvania State University. In 2018, I received my Master’s Degree in Teaching Reading from California State University.
In my spare time I like to go to the beach, go for walks in the fresh air, walk with my dog Luna and spend time with family and friends. My favorite subjects to teach are science and social studies, and my favorite children’s book is The Lorax. I have been part of the Barrett Kindergarten team since 2014 and joined the First Grade team in 2020. I can’t wait for another great year with Barrett’s amazing students! nine0005
