At any time of the year, and even more so in winter, one of the main attractions of Toronto attracts visitors, the Allan Gardens Conservatory, , which is already 145 years old.

The classic Edwardian building is a testament to how influential residents cared about the present and future of their city.

Since construction in the 1980s mini-greenhouses in downtown, under the roof of the Bay Adelaide Center, now closed for renovation, not a single new botanical garden has appeared in Toronto.

The greenhouse was named after its founder, George William Allan, president of the Toronto Horticultural Society, who in 1858 donated to the society a piece of garden land he had inherited from his father, a major entrepreneur. Since 1864 the city has expanded the area of the garden, and in 1878 the first pavilion was built, where various events were held: balls, concerts, flower shows. After a fire on this site in 1909, the Palm House greenhouse grew, which is now undergoing a major reconstruction.

All other premises of the botanical garden are open to the public.

More than 50 years ago, the Centennial Park Conservatory was founded in the Etobicoke area of southwest Toronto.

More than 200 species of tropical and desert plants peacefully coexist under its vaults, the most diverse species of fruit trees that bear fruit in the middle of winter, exotic flowers. Among them are ginger and bananas, papaya and soursop, hibiscus and orchids, and many other creations of nature. In the south wing there is a huge collection of cacti, among them agave, prickly pear, aloe. The north wing has become home to local species of trees and shrubs, and magnificent flower shows are held here in each of the seasons of the year. In the warm climate of the greenhouse, goldfish, turtles and a variety of birds feel great, the singing of which takes you to warmer climes, where palm trees sway and ocean waves slowly run ashore.

In addition to a purely educational function, the greenhouse serves as a nursery.
