    New York boroughs and neighborhoods

Despite its colossal size, New York is divided into 5 boroughs or boroughs: Manhattan, The Bronx, Brooklyn, Queens, Staten -Island (Staten Island). Each of them has its own unique features, interesting sights and cultural traditions. Inside each borough there are neighborhoods that amaze with their architectural contrasts and strange characters.

    Manhattan

Mentioning New York immediately brings to mind the pictures of Manhattan. This is the smallest, but the most prestigious area of the city. It is located on the island of the same name in the Hudson Strait. It also includes several islets and a small part of the mainland. Here are some of the main attractions of the city – Central Park, the Statue of Liberty, Fifth Avenue, Chinatown, Little Italy, Empire State Building, Times Square, Metropolitan Museum of Art, Museum of Modern Art, Rockefeller Center, The High Line Park, One World Trade Center , Central Station, Solomon Guggenheim Museum, Bryant Park, American Museum of Natural History, Flatiron Building and many others. The most prestigious hotels where tourists dream of staying are located in Manhattan – The Plaza Hotel, 1 Hotel Central Park, Times Square EDITION New York, Equinox Hotel Hudson Yards New York City.

    The Bronx

The Bronx is the poorest and most criminal area of New York. It is the only borough that is entirely on the continent. However, now it is far from being as dangerous here as it was at the end of the last century. This is a multinational and multicultural bedroom community. Its main attraction is the home stadium of the Yankees baseball team. A lesser known but very interesting place is the New York Botanical Garden. Also, the Bronx Zoo and the Edgar Allan Poe House Museum can attract the attention of tourists.

    Brooklyn

Brooklyn is New York’s most populous borough. In terms of prices and liveliness, it is between Manhattan and the Bronx. It is a favorite area for immigrants from Eastern Europe and Central America. The main attractions of Brooklyn are Coney Island, Brooklyn Museum, Brighton Beach, Prospect Park, Brooklyn Botanical Garden, Brooklyn Bridge Park, DUMBO, Brooklyn Heights, Bushwick, Green-Wood Cemetery, Brooklyn Bridge.

    Queens

Queens is the largest borough in New York City. This is the sports center of the city. It hosts the annual New York City Marathon, the New York Mets home games at Citi Field, and the US Open, a major tennis championship. Among the places that may still be of interest to guests of the Big Apple in this borough are. Flushing Meadows–Corona Park, Forest Hills, Museum of the Moving Image, Rockaway, Aqueduct Racecourse, Socrates Sculpture Park.

Most of Staten Island is located on Staten Island in the Hudson River. It is the least populated and the most remote borough from the rest of the city. There are no usual New York skyscrapers here, but there is wonderful nature and one-story houses that resemble a typical American outback. The main attractions of Staten Island are the Verrazano Bridge, the Staten Island Zoo, the Snug Harbor Cultural Center, the Botanical Gardens and the ferry to Manhattan.

As of December 1, tolls will be charged on the Verrazano Bridge in both directions

From December 1, a new toll collection procedure for the Verrazano Toll Bridge will come into force.

Until now, drivers only paid when they drove from Brooklyn to Staten Island. The cost was $12.24 with E-ZPass, and without it much more – $19. But the return trip was free. Now they will take money in both directions, but half of the current amount, that is, $6.12 and, respectively, $9.50 if E-ZPass is not presented. Accounts in his absence will come by mail. The new fares are believed to be fairer to anyone who has to cross the bridge. And for residents of Staten Island, as before, the fare will remain preferential: $ 2.75 in each direction.

Changes introduced after a long debate, 34 years after Congress decided on the special status of Verrazano. And so far, it has been the only bridge where, according to federal regulations, tolls were collected in only one direction. This order was introduced in 1980s to reduce the flow of cars that accumulate at the toll booths. Today, with the advent of new electronic technology, the need for this has disappeared. To abolish unilateral fees, a special bill was passed in Congress.

ITA Chairman Patrick Foy was pleased to say, “Restoring the toll in both directions will end New York City’s over 30-year loophole, help reduce congestion on Staten Island, and improve the environment.”

The benefits of the new rules are clear. The number of cars on the Staten Island Expressway will decrease as there will be fewer out-of-town drivers who used to ride for free. Transportation investment will increase in Staten Island and South Brooklyn. The MTA expects revenues to grow from $10 million to $15 million a year. It is planned to direct additional money in the first place to continue the reconstruction of the Verrazano bridge at both levels. It is also planned to make improvements at three stations of the Staten Island Railroad and replace the rails along the entire route. New buses will be purchased for Staten Island and the electronic information system will be upgraded.
