I Am Thankful For Y Childcare….

I am so grateful for everything the YMCA has provided for both, my four and five-year-old daughters. The YMCA truly has been a second home for them, helping them learn, grow and prepare them for school. The values and structure the YMCA provided for them has made such a world of a difference in how they learn and interact with others. The YMCA staff has literally bent over backwards for their students and they have become amazing role models for my daughters. My youngest was so scared to go to school, but the teachers went out of their way to make her feel comfortable and now she loves to go to school! I really don’t know where we would have been without the amazing teachers and office staff, who have become more like family. My girls were able to attend the YMCA during the COVID outbreak and I don’t know what I would have done if they couldn’t have. When no one else was there to help, the YMCA was still there to reach out a helping hand. Now that my daughter’s kindergarten class has opened up for hybrid, she cries because she would rather go to the YMCA. Also, the time frames the YMCA provides is a lifesaver!!! They actually provide childcare for parents who have a job, instead of impossible hours for the working parent! Thank you for the amazing tuition and the opportunity for scholarships! I could never thank you enough! Thank you for providing my daughters with such a bright future and instilling the love for school in them! Alli H.

My daughter is 4 years old and has attended YMCA preschool the past year and half. Having the YMCA for my child to attend had been a life saver especially being a healthcare worker during these COVID times. During the state shut down she attended preschool Monday thru Friday. She loves going to preschool and the teachers and her friends make her day special everyday. Peighton W.

We are parents of 2 young children, 7-year-old daughter and 4 year-old son.  My husband and I both work full time.  I do not know what we would have done without the YMCA thru these times.  The Y allowed us to drop off our kids with complete peace of mind.   They went over and above to make sure that our kids were in a clean safe environment.  They set up an amazing distance learning center and did their very best to help our kids with their zoom meetings and daily schoolwork while having fun!  I feel like the semi classroom environment allowed for them to have more focus than when they were at home.   I will be forever grateful to the YMCA and their AMAZING loving, kind, and caring staff.  Thank you for your help, and your kindness, thank you for putting yourselves out there for our kids and for us parents who really needed you guys, and most of all thank you for allowing our kids to have normality in this not so normal world right now. Sincerely, Jessica H.

My daughters attended the YMCA childcare from the beginning of the COVID-19 shutdown. The YMCA has been a lifesaver. I truly appreciate all the staff who has stepped up to make sure our kids are staying healthy, safe and continuing to learn during COVID-19. Education is looking very different now but the hard work and care from the staff of the YMCA has really made a difference in our lives. Staff has gone well above and beyond to make sure that all the kids are being taken care of during this incredibly emotional and hard time. The work that you all do matters and will always be remembered. Karina R.

The YMCA has been an amazing asset to our lives. Our family owns a small business. My husband is a first responder, and I don’t think we would have made it during the shutdowns this year without the Y.

Our little guy has a lot of emotional trauma and behavioral issues. This school is amazing at communicating with us so that we can stay on top of his needs. They never disappoint and he always comes home tired after a long day of playing with his friends. We are really grateful to the Y and know every day when we drop our mini off he is safe and well looked after. Preschool Parents and Foster Parents

The YMCA has been a tremendous help for our family this year. I cannot say enough great things about them. The fact that they had Emergency childcare during the outbreak of Covid–19 (and through all this year have accommodated the schedules of parents that had to work) was Amazing and a lifesaver.     The staff has always been so helpful and caring. This year they all went above and beyond with so many challenges for communities. The staff helped the kids with online learning and when hybrid learning started, the staff in the classrooms at the Y helped the students with all of their work. I am SO THANKFUL for the YMCA and everyone in the Child Care Division. They all deserve special recognition. Without the help of the YMCA this year, this family would have had some serious challenges. Thank you so much!!!!! Cheryl M.

I gained custody of my granddaughter a little over 2 years ago when she was 7. Since then, I have relied on the Prescott YMCA for childcare. She has attended summer camps, days off from school and afterschool care while I work. When 2020 arrived, and with it Covid-19, I was furloughed from my work for about 3 ½ weeks. During this time, the Y closed. I received a call from the Childcare Director informing me that they would be open for emergency childcare for essential workers on a limited basis. Since I was furloughed, I had no need for childcare at that time. When I got the call that we were returning to work, I was very excited. But soon after, panic started to set in.  I wasn’t sure there would be an opening for my granddaughter. I called and they had a spot!! At first, I was a little hesitant because I wasn’t sure what protocols were in place to keep everyone safe from this virus. When we arrived at the Y the first day back, hand sanitizer was outside for everyone to use and social distancing was encouraged. I signed her in and pressed the buzzer at the door. Before she was allowed inside, her temperature was taken and then she was permitted to enter. I have never seen such an amazing group of people, from the director down to the staff. The Prescott YMCA has been a lifesaver to me and my family and I am grateful for them each and every day. Helena E.

I just wanted to give a big shout out to the Prescott YMCA team for the outstanding job they have done, not only through this COVID pandemic but for the past 7 years we have been members of the Prescott YMCA.  As an essential worker here at the VA Hospital I was able to rest assured that  I could rely on Stephanie and Rachelle and the others to ensure my grandson was able to have a safe place to go,  not only to get his homework done but to be with his “other family” there at the YMCA when we were unable to stay home. They answered my every email timely with concerns I may have had. They went above and beyond to make room for the children to get their homework done, and that they were fed and had all they needed to get through each and every week. Let me add, that in 2014, I had no idea where to go for daycare for my grandson. The YMCA was recommended by my DES caseworker telling me what a great job they do there, and we were not disappointed. Miss Rachelle S. embraced my grandson (3 ½ years old at the time) with open arms during uncertain times for us.  Her nurturing ways continue to this day, demonstrating her commitment, love, and compassion to the Prescott community children. It is my undying pleasure to recognize and thank Miss Rachelle and Miss Stephanie for all they do on a daily basis, not only for my family but for the Prescott community as a whole.  I truly would not know what we would have done without them. God Bless our Prescott YMCA. Cherie and Layne O.

Where to begin?!?!?!  My daughter age 6 now, started going to the YMCA Childcare during the emergency childcare time for healthcare workers in May 2020.   There had been so many changes during that time for everybody but I worried about the amount of constant changes for her.  I went ahead and signed her up and she was able to start the next week.  I cannot say enough good things about YMCA Childcare!  Not only are they lifesavers (so we can work) but the love and care they put into all the kids is heartwarming and amazing.  They are truly invested in each child.  Personally, I have seen the staff take the time and energy to find what makes my daughter “tick” and how best to work with her…..I was not expecting that.  They have gone above and beyond to help the Prescott School District with hybrid schooling during COVID and all the constant changes that has come with it (extra helpers, increased Wi-Fi needs, organization with multiple grades, A LOT of extra communication, etc.).  From my perspective, they have excelled in handling that daunting challenge….and all with a smile!  As a parent, I was so worried about her taking the bus there after school once it starts and “what if” she doesn’t get off the bus, she gets off the wrong bus, etc.   Not to worry, the staff there is SO amazing and call me if needed!  They even notified me that she had arrived safely there on her first day of going to Abia Judd!  I was so relieved.  They are just the best!  She has LOVED going to YMCA!  The crafts, swimming, gymnastics, positive learning atmosphere, has been the best “change” for her this year.  I am sooooooo glad she is there!!  One day she asked me, “mom, why are you and dad not members of the YMCA?”  I told her because it has been closed on and off and we are going to wait for it to reopen before we sign up.  She said, “I think you guys should become members so you can have as much fun as me.”  Priceless. Laurie M.

I am a single mother with sole custody of two children. My mother is the only family connection in the area, and we moved here to be with her a few years ago. As a single parent of young children, it has been hard to manage work and childcare. When my youngest child entered elementary school, I was able to begin moving up in the work force to provide a better life for my kids. Things have been progressing but when Covid hit, I was very concerned about what it would mean for my family. Fortunately, my company did not close or limit business, but the school closures had a profound impact on my children’s ability to be in a safe place and complete their online classes. My mother helped the best she could but was unable to help the children with learning and unable to mentally manage the 2-5 days a week. When the YMCA notified us that they would be providing emergency childcare, I felt such relief. I was not able to stay home (while also paying the bills) with them so that they would have the help they needed for school, but the YMCA provided a safe and healthy place for my children to be during the day so that I could continue working uninterrupted. Even now, with the hybrid teaching schedule and the newly changing class times, the YMCA has been able to keep the kids safe while allowing them to get online for distance learning classes and assignments. I don’t think that I would have been able to keep working during Covid if the YMCA hadn’t been able to stay open for us in our time of need.  Thank you guys!! A Thankful Childcare Parent

What YMCA childcare meant to my family:

The YMCA saved my family from extreme stress during the time of COVID 19. I am a nurse and had to work long, strange hours and my husband owns his own business. We lost a lot of revenue when COVID initially started up because he had to stay home to be with our 8yo daughter. Tensions ran very high in my household because the two were not used to spending day after day together, not to mention the fact that they have personalities that are like two peas in a pod. Usually, when they are together too long, they start to fuss at each other, and I am the buffer because I am different. When we learned that the YMCA was open during COVID it was a Godsend. It allowed my daughter to go into a normal routine and my husband to go back to work. While still stressful, the Y staff did A LOT to keep the children in a routine. Once online schooling started, that consistency allowed my daughter to deal with the massive changes of doing online schooling. When she struggled with the online teaching, if a concern was ever raised to the staff, they listened to the concern and were extremely collaborative to come up with a solution. Because the YMCA has so many awesome extra programs, my daughter was able to do gymnastics and swimming which she loves during a time when others were restricted. I will always be grateful to the YMCA for being there for my family during these unprecedented times. Very Respectfully, Roxanne C.

The YMCA preschool has been so amazing through the pandemic when I had to go back to work.  I was so panicked she was not going have a spot in the essential workers program. We only waited a week and I got a call they had found a spot for my girl. Stephanie (especially) was so amazing through the whole process and made the transition on my daughter getting back to school so comfortable and safe. All the staff and teachers have made this process so easy and safe on our whole family. So thankful for the caring staff at the YMCA!! Thank you again YMCA. Becca

We, as Prescott parents are so grateful to the YMCA, especially during this global pandemic. The Y helped us with critical childcare so we could return to our jobs and continue to support our life, welfare, and happiness. Their attention to health as they screened each and every child before allowing them in their buildings has been stellar. They have never missed a beat with their attention to detail in keeping our children safe and healthy. Thank you Prescott YMCA…you have been heroes to us!! Anonymously grateful.

If someone were to ask me what the YMCA and STAFF especially the Childcare mean to my family. .. Without them I wouldn’t be able to work and provide for my children!!  The amazing care that my children receive here gives me a sense of relief throughout my day.  I work in healthcare and during these strange times, things couldn’t be more difficult but the YMCA does it with such confidence and poise that I could never express how grateful WE are to have this place and staff to call our second home and second family. The staff here really care about my children and it shows every day! Sincerely, Shelly N.

I currently have a 4 year-old child that goes to the YMCA Preschool 3 days a week and want you to know what the YMCA means to me. I have been using the YMCA Preschool and the afterschool program off and on for over 15 years with all 4 of my daughters. I am always very happy with the structure of the programs, activities, and of course the cleanliness of the facility. The staff is very involved with the children which makes my children feel safe and comfortable to spend their days away from home there.  I feel comfortable with the safety protocols they use for a range of different things such as child pick up/drop off, illnesses, accidents etc. The staff is very good at communicating with parents regarding their children. I would highly recommend the YMCA to others in a heartbeat. My children and I have been very blessed to have the YMCA as part of their growth. Sincerely, Tara Y.

Little Miss Nobody. State of Arizona, Yavapai County, Township… | by @murderss

Arizona, Yavapai County, Congress Township. This settlement or town was formed at the end of the 19th century as a settlement of gold miners, flourished until the 1930s, while gold was being mined, now it is not even considered a city or village, but officially belongs to the category “statistically isolated area” – census-designated place ( CDP) and a separate part of the nearby town of Wickenburg. Located southwest of the city of Prescott and northwest of Phoenix, the capital of Arizona and one of the largest cities in the United States. The population of the Congress in 2000 was approximately 1,700, in 2010 – 4,800, and in the middle of the 20th century – probably less than a thousand. The population of the entire Yavapai County is 1960 was almost 29 thousand people.

On July 31, 1960, a schoolteacher from Las Vegas (neighboring Nevada) named Russell Allen came to the Arizona desert with his family to collect beautiful stones to decorate his garden. Near the town of Congress, near the Alamo Road and one and a half miles south of Route 93 (the main highway between Phoenix and Las Vegas), Mr. Allen and members of his family found the body of a little girl, partially buried in the sand. The girl seemed to be sitting in a sand bath – the lower part of the body was buried, the upper one was outside and her hands lay on the surface of the sand.

The approximate location of the discovery of the girl’s corpse is marked with a red marker

The police officers who arrived at the scene removed the corpse from the sand and recorded the following details: the girl’s body had reached a significant degree of decomposition (in the hot climate of the southern American states, the decomposition process is faster, and even in the height of summer – in July), was dressed in white shorts and a plaid blouse. There were also two unusual details: the girl’s fingernails and toenails were painted bright red and this was the only layer of varnish, that is, before that, the nails had not been painted, and next to the grave were flip-flops of the adult size, which were cut (cut) to a child’s, with leather straps. Sheriff’s Deputy Dan Jacobs discovered a pocket knife nearby that he thought was bloodied, but it was not clear if the knife was related to the crime. Investigators also noticed two artificial depressions in the sandy surface nearby and concluded that there were two other attempts to dig the grave first.

The corpse had no visible unnatural damage – signs of murder, if any, they were hidden by the decomposition of the flesh.

An autopsy was carried out, following which the forensic pathologist and the FBI involved in the case determined that the body belonged to a white girl, aged 5 to 7 years, approximately 42 inches (1.07 meters) tall, weighing 55 to 65 pounds ( from 25 to 29.5 kg). All the bones were intact, in the child’s mouth there was a complete and intact set of children’s milk teeth in good condition. It was found that from the moment of death to the discovery of the corpse took from one to two weeks.

Age was originally defined as from 5 to 7 years, later this range expanded and began to be from 2 to 9 years, although at this age a person grows over the years and a 9-year-old child is very different from a 2-year-old in all respects. But the most likely age was determined as from 3 to 6 years.

Another characteristic detail was discovered: the natural color of the girl’s hair was light brown (dark blond or the like), but the hair was dyed chestnut.

It was not possible to make a composite portrait at that time due to the strong decomposition of facial tissues.

The cause of death was not determined, but was officially declared as murder, more precisely – homicide, this term means not only murder in the narrow sense of the word, but also in a broader sense – the destruction of a person, bringing him to death in various ways or unintentional murder.

First report of the discovery of an unknown

child corpse in the desert in the local newspaper

the next day – August 1, column on the right

Despite the announcement in the media, no one identified the found girl as their daughter or relative, or the daughter or relative of their acquaintances. Local police, led by Sheriff Jim Cramer, made great efforts to identify the girl and her possible killers. They engaged the local media, the Prescott sheriff’s office began to receive letters, telegrams and phone calls from different people, checked the information received from them, distributed information about the child by teletype, checked the data on the reported missing children and persons previously convicted of crimes against children. All this was done not only on the spot – the sheriff himself and his colleagues flew out and went on business trips to other places, sometimes hundreds of miles away from Yavapai County. The parents and relatives of the missing girls repeatedly came, trying to identify her as their own. But everything was to no avail, the girl remained unidentified and even before the funeral she received the nickname Little Miss Nobody.

On August 8, Yavapai County Sheriff Jim Cramer and his colleagues and a cameraman went to the scene where the half-buried body was discovered just over a week ago and filmed. Then, in front of the camera in their office, Yavapai County Sheriff and Deputy Attorney George Ireland showed reporters found flip-flops, artificially reduced to child size. These footage, as well as an interview with the sheriff, were shown on television in order to obtain new information. As the sheriff said, “There’s someone somewhere who knows the answer we’re looking for, and maybe that will lead that person to us.” But this move did not give any result.

Little Miss Nobody was supposed to be buried in a grave for unknown and poor people. But Dave Palladin, an announcer at Prescott’s KYCA radio station, said: “I guess I couldn’t resist seeing a little girl buried in Boot Hill (Boot Hill is a collective term for poor cemeteries, the first and main of which is in Arizona)” . He organized a fundraiser for a funeral in a decent cemetery and in the Christian rite. Local residents not only donated money for this, but some of them came to the funeral, which took place on August 10 at the Mountain View Cemetery in Prescott. The funeral service was held in the church, more than 70 people came to it.

A small blue coffin was inscribed: “God’s little child, date of birth unknown, date of death unknown.” Around the coffin were flower arrangements brought by people, some of them had notes with messages from the deceased. One of these notes said: “’Forgive us, child, for the weakness of men and, in turn, when in your final home, pray for us” – “Forgive us, child, for human weakness and, in turn when you are in your last home, pray for us.”

Dr. Charles Franklin Parker, who led the funeral procession, said over the coffin, “This is a little wanderer who was among us. We do not know her name, we can only guess about her age. It seems to me that we may not know this, but God does. In the world of God there are no unknowns, no orphans. She doesn’t need a name today. She has the name of an angel somewhere in eternity. We may never know the ways and the reasons, but somewhere someone will look in the newspaper to find out what happened to the little girl he left in the desert. If there was an atrocity, then probably his conscience would continue and continue to bother him.”

The tombstone is engraved with the inscription “Little Miss Nobody” and a quote from the Gospel of Matthew: “Blessed are the pure in heart”.

One of the newspaper notes was called “Little Miss Noboy Buried as Somebody”.

Little Miss Nobody’s grave in Prescott’s Mountain View Cemetery is still visited today, bringing toys and flowers to the little headstone.

The investigation is also ongoing.

As early as this 2018, the cold case department of the Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office contacted the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children (NCMEC), which paid for the exhumation of the buried girl’s remains and an examination of the new scientific and technological level, as a result of which the DNA of Little Miss Nobody was successfully obtained. The DNA was added to the center’s database and to the National Missing and Unidentified Persons System (NamUs) database, which is a department of the US Department of Justice.

Then specialists from the University of North Texas Center for Human Identification, using modern computer technology that was not available in 1960, made a reconstruction of the girl’s face – a portrait of Little Miss Nobody, as she could have been on the eve of her death.

This is not to say that over the years of investigation, the police did not have any leads. Some people and circumstances drew particular attention to themselves.

Less than a year has passed since the discovery of Little Miss Nobody, and in March 1961, a version arose that it could be 4-year-old Debbie Dudley, the daughter of itinerant carnival artists – 47-year-old Kenneth Dudley and his 44-year-old wife Irene. During their long life together, they gave birth to several children. Their two eldest daughters, Marjorie and Jen, were already grown up, married and living in New York.

The Dudley family lived in Virginia, a state on the east coast of the United States, very far from Arizona, on the other side of the country, but due to the nature of their activities, the couple traveled a lot around the country, and even visited Arizona.

As the investigators found out, not only their youngest daughter was missing. The other, 7-year-old Carol Ann Dudley, also disappeared. But soon, on February 9, her body was found wrapped in a blanket in the woods near the small town of Lawrenceville in southern Virginia. She was determined to have died on February 1, about 100 miles north, at a truck stop in Hanover County. The causes of death were cited as malnutrition, bad exposure, and neglect by parents.

And later, in the same place, in southern Virginia, the remains of Debbie Dudley were found. Experts have confirmed that this is it. The causes of death were the same. And it became clear that she was not Little Miss Nobody.

Kenneth and Irene Dudley were arrested and imprisoned for killing their two children.

Their two eldest daughters first tried to claim the body of their little 4-year-old sister for burial in New York, but the imprisoned mother came up with the idea of burying her next to Carol Ann there in Virginia. Jen and Marjorie agreed and so it was done.

However, there is a big blank spot in the family’s business – three more (!) of their children, born at different times, went missing over the last 2.5 years at that time. Their bodies were not found and it was impossible to charge the parents with the murders, but it is very likely that they also killed these children of theirs and successfully hid their corpses while touring the country. It can be assumed that one of them is Little Miss Nobody, but this is pure hypothesis – there is nothing that would connect her specifically with the Dudley family, except for the fact that they were in Arizona, and the missing children in such a large and criminal country, like the US, there has always been a lot.

There is another version, more promising.

Exactly 10 days before the discovery of Little Miss Nobody, on July 21, 1960, in the state of New Mexico, neighboring Arizona, in the city of Alamogordo (compare with the name of the Alamo Road and there is Lake Alamo in Arizona not far from the place where Little Miss Nobody was discovered), a girl disappeared named Sharon Lee Gallegos. (In some sources, her middle name is indicated as Lynn – Lynn – but this is incorrect.)

Sharon was 4 years old, incomplete 5 (born September 6, 1955 years old), that is, she was the right age – it is worth recalling that the most likely age of Little Miss Nobody was defined as from 3 to 6 years old, and although Sharon was Hispanic, she was lighter than her brothers and sisters, had blond or light brown hair (as Little Miss Nobody had before being dyed chestnut) and brown eyes, also had a birthmark on her thigh (whether Little Miss Nobody had one is unknown – her flesh was already quite decomposed). She was dressed differently during the abduction – pink shorts and white shoes, but the abductors could change her clothes, as well as dye her hair and fingernails and toenails (but then it remains unclear why to do this last thing: paint the nails of the kidnapped child red ?).

The circumstances of her abduction are of interest. In the afternoon, around 2:55 pm, Sharon was playing with other children in the backyard of their Alamogordo home at 512 Virginia Avenue. An old green car pulled up. A short and plump woman with blond hair, looking over 30 years old, got out of the car, approached Sharon and asked if she wanted to go with her to buy clothes and sweets. The girl refused. Then the woman grabbed Sharon by the arm and dragged her to the car. Behind the wheel was a man, thin and also fair-haired. The car into which the woman dragged the girl sped off somewhere to the south.

Beatriz Gallegos, Sharon’s aunt (her mother’s sister) was in the house, saw this scene through the back window, just had time to run to the front door and open it when the car disappeared from view. Beatrice had poor eyesight and could not see the people in the car or the license plate. Other witnesses were only children playing near the house. Both they and my aunt remembered only the color of the car – green, they could not say which state plates were on it.

The Gallegos family was not rich, they did not even have a telephone in the house. Mother Lupe (Guadalupe) Gallegos was left without a husband who left them earlier, worked as a housekeeper at a local hotel and raised children alone, of which Sharon was the youngest, and the eldest child was 15 years old. A version was put forward that her husband could have organized the kidnapping of the child, but the police and a team of FBI special agents who arrived in Alamogordo quickly reacted, checked a large number of options in a week, but never found any trace of Sharon and her kidnappers anywhere. Which also did not get in touch, as they should have done if the purpose of the kidnapping was a ransom demand, so this version was also discarded.

Daily News “

2 “Daily Alamo” ” for July 24, 1960 –

3 days after the abduction

But some interesting circumstances came to light, from which we can conclude that the abductors tracked down Sharon in advance and hunted for her.

The day of the kidnapping, July 21, was a Thursday, and according to one of the neighbors, on the previous Sunday, after a church service, a woman who looked like Sharon the kidnapper approached him and asked him about Sharon Gallegos, her mother, the financial situation of their family and said, that he wants to offer his mother a job. According to the witness, the woman was driving a 1950-52 Dodge or Plymouth car (similar to the old Volga) green and added that there were two children in the car – a little girl and a freckled boy. This is a curious circumstance. Were these the own children of the woman and the man accompanying her, or were they also abducted elsewhere? The version is quite plausible, and then there were entire criminal groups that specialized in kidnapping. Such a couple, who kidnapped children and pretended to be their parents, is shown in the film “Running Scared” (“Running Scared”, 2006, starring Paul Walker).

There were other testimonies. 16-year-old Mary Lou Badil stopped by the Gallegos family and saw the couple in a car parked outside, the woman staring unashamedly at their house, even as Mary stood in the kitchen doorway and looked at her.
