Infant Programs (6 weeks–1 year)

Leaving your baby in someone else’s care is a big step. Everyone at our
centers—most importantly, our naturally gifted infant teachers—will work with
you to make sure the transition goes smoothly. When you step into our infant
classroom, you’ll see how much we want your infant to feel safe, loved, and
ready to explore their world.

Toddler Programs (1–2 Years)

Everything in our toddler classroom is designed for little explorers. That’s
because a lot is going on at this age. When your child is wandering all over the
place, that means they’re learning and discovering new things every day. We’ll
help them explore their interests (and find new ones!) as they play and learn.

Discovery Preschool Programs (2–3 Years)

This age is filled with so much wonder and curiosity. That’s why we offer a ton
of books and toys and bring artwork down to kids eye level. Children in
discovery preschool also begin to learn how we all work together in a
classroom. Simple math and science, pretend play, and group play help them
get used to a more structured school setting.

Preschool Programs (3–4 Years)

This age is all about expression, when kids really start to form their own ideas
about what they want to play and how they want to create. Every day in our
preschool classroom, your child will explore science experiments, create
artwork, and play pretend—all the skills needed for their big next step:
kindergarten!

Prekindergarten Programs (4–5 Years)

When you walk into one of our pre-K classrooms, you’ll see artwork and
writing displayed around the room. Labels are everywhere to help kids connect
letters with words. You’ll also see pictures on the walls that reflect the families
in our community. Your child will also deepen their knowledge in language,
math, science, Spanish, and social skills.

Before- and After-School Programs (5–12 Years)

You can count on us to provide reliable care for your school-ager while you’re
at work, with safe transportation from our center to your child’s school and
back! Whether your child wants to start a drama club, build a volcano, or
create a comic book, they will have a place to follow their dreams. Your child
will start and end the day with a whole lot of fun!

School Break Programs (preschool, prekindergarten, and school-age)

Winter break, spring break, summer break—when school’s out (but you still need to work), you
can count on KinderCare to provide a safe and supportive learning environment that’s focused
on fun. We welcome children ages 5–12 during school break times and make sure they have a
sensational, screen-free experience they won’t forget.

Participating Child Care Aware Center

KinderCare partners with Child Care Aware® of America to offer fee assistance for
Active Duty military families and flexible support to fit their needs when care at a Child
Development Center on the installation is not available.

Learning Adventures – Enrichment Program

Music Explorers™ (2 – 4 Years)

KinderCare families are already giving a standing ovation to our newest Learning
Adventures program: Music Explorers! Kids will learn to sing, move, listen, play
instruments, and even create their own tunes. Our original curriculum blends math,
science, social studies, literacy, and mindfulness (think yoga!) for a uniquely KinderCare
way of learning the foundations of music.

Phonics Adventures® (2 – 4 Years)

Learning how to read is a whole lot of fun at KinderCare! We help kids grow to love
books and words (and get ready for kindergarten) in our Phonics Adventures program.
From discovering the basics of vowels to practicing poetry, kids learn all about letters
and sounds in small-group lessons made just for their age group. (Bonus: Kids who
attend our phonics program are more prepared than their peers for school—and we
have the data to prove it.)

Wee-Learn

A center-based environment where children learn through the 5 senses and experience hands-on training. Bible stories and music are introduced through chapel time.

Learning Without Tears

Handwriting Without Tears is an award-winning curriculum that offers multisensory strategies and materials to teach pencil grip, letter formation, and the literacy skills that are needed for print handwriting.

Phonemics Classes

Phonemic class is part of the curriculum for all PK classes who attend school on Fridays. Children will develop phonemic awareness through rhyming, guessing, connecting sounds, following the beat, singing, and breaking apart words. They will learn a new sight word each month to help prepare for kindergarten.

Stretch N Grow

Stretch N Grow is a fun and engaging program that gets kids moving as we focus on exercising, building strong muscles, and learning about healthy food choices. 18m, 2’s and 3’s receive Stretch N Grow 1-2 times a week. PreK enjoys it every day.

Music

In music, all ages engage in musical learning that are critical to brain development. We use instruments, scarves, shakers, rhythm sticks, and other items to enhance the musical experience. All classes participate in two programs each year, one at christmas and one at the end of the school year.

Health and Safety

We have a strict health policy. Many of our policies are required by licensing, however we go above and beyond the “minimum standards” required by licensing.

About Our Classes

At St. John Lutheran Preschool we are committed to developing the whole child. We grow children in five areas – spiritually, academically, socially, emotionally and physically. We are a program that provides developmentally appropriate activities for all children – taking them from their current level forward. Children are placed in classes based on their age as of September 1 – as does Mansfield ISD. All classes use the WeeLearn Curriculum along with various resources to aid in meeting the needs of all learners.

Regardless of which days they attend or the number of days they attend, all children are exposed to the same curriculum and materials. The greater the number of days a child attends, the more in-depth the learning; the more exposure to skills and concepts; and the more immersion in learning.

Below is a brief synopsis of each age-class and the focus in that class throughout the year. We hope this information will assist you in making the best choice for your child. If you have further questions about classes, choice of days or curriculum, please see us in the office and we will be glad to answer any questions you may have. We are proud of the foundation we provide for young children and look forward to serving you.

18-24 MONTH CLASS

Toddlerhood is a stage during which a child is learning competence in many skills, particularly in verbal skills, walking, climbing, running, and exploring. The focus is socialization and separation from mom and dad. Toddlers will learn about spatial awareness, sensory development, building vocabulary, and body awareness as they participate in various activities throughout the day. Toddlers will participate in daily Bible time and music or Stretch-n-Grow daily. Toddlers do not have to be potty trained. Choices for toddlers is MWF, TTH, or M-F.

TWOS CLASS

Two-year-olds at St. John Lutheran Preschool spend their day learning to play and playing to learn. The focus is socialization and separation from mom and dad. Twos learn about shapes, colors, numbers, spatial awareness and sensory development as they participate in various activities throughout the day. Two year olds participate in bible time, and music or Stretch-n-Grow daily. Twos do not have to be potty trained; however, toilet training is encouraged throughout the school year. Choices for twos are: MWF, TTh, or M-F.

THREES CLASS

Three year olds, also known as preschoolers, build on what was introduced in our twos classes. They review shapes, colors and learn to identify numbers and sets 0 to 5. They are introduced to capital letters and begin learning to write their name. Teachers also begin exposing children to various print concepts. Circle time is a vital part of our day when we learn to sit in a small group, take turns sharing, listen to stories, and explore themes. Threes begin working with small manipulatives to develop fine-motor coordination as we learn to handle scissors, glue and pencils. Threes attend chapel on Monday and Tuesday, and music or Stretch-n-Grow each day. Threes must be potty trained and able to “paper” on their own. Informal, teacher observation assessments are done twice yearly. End-of-year parent-teacher conferences are optional. Choices for threes are: MWF, TTh, or M-F.

FOURS CLASS

We call our four-year-old children at St. John, pre-kindergarteners. Our Pre-K classes spend the year learning skills and concepts that will help them to succeed in kindergarten. Shapes and colors are reviewed and teachers begin to establish higher-level math concepts. Numbers and sets 0 – 10 are taught through hands-on play. An emphasis is placed on oral language development, reading readiness and concepts of print. Upper and lower-case letters and sounds are taught using books, songs, centers, manipulatives and small and large group instruction. They will be introduced to sight words and early readers as the year progresses. Fine-motor skills, such as cutting, gluing, and proper pencil hold, are developed using meaningful, thematic activities. Trays and Stations provide further practice across all areas of the curriculum. Independence is encouraged at all times: carrying our belongings, cleaning-up, completing work, hand-washing, opening lunches, preparing for nap, and packing-up to go home.

Fours attend chapel Monday and Tuesday. They attend music and Stretch N Grow Monday through Thursday and Phonemics on Friday. Assessments for fours are done two to three times a year. Children are assessed informally, by teacher observation, and formally, through one-on-one evaluation, two to three times a year. Parent-teacher conferences are scheduled in late March/early April and, while they are not mandatory, they are strongly encouraged. Choices for fours are: MWF, TTh, MTWTh, or M-F

Mansfield, TX

Mansfield is a suburban city in the US state of Texas, and is part of the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex area. The city is located primarily in Tarrant County, with small parts in Ellis and Johnson County. It is located about 30 miles from Dallas and 20 miles from Fort Worth, next to Arlington. As of the 2010 Census, the population was 56,368,90,005[6]90,006 compared to 28,031 in 2000. The estimated population in 2020 is 73,550. ^[7]

CNN/Money Magazine ranked Mansfield 17th in 2014 on their annual “Best Places to Live” list. ^[8] Mansfield was on this list most recently: in 2007 ^[9] 2009, ^[10] and 2012, ^[11] ranked 83rd, 24th and 30th places respectively. It is currently the 15th richest place in all of Texas.

• 3 Demographics 9The US Army established Fort Worth to protect farms on the sparsely populated frontier.

  The area southeast of the fort (and the Trinity River) was well defended and presumably fairly well settled by the early 1850s. In one well-documented case, eight related families migrated to the area in 1853 from Illinois. Three of the four Gibson brothers in this group established homesteads about 4 miles (6 km) northwest of present-day Mansfield. This settlement, which became known as the Gibson community, included a school and church building by 1860.

  When R.S. Mun and Julian Feild arrived around 1856 and built a mill at the crossroads that was to become the center of Mansfield, the germs of the community probably existed in the oak groves bordering Walnut Creek (originally called Cedar Bluff Creek). Walnut Creek Congregation Cumberland Presbyterian Church was organized in 1854. The members used to gather at each other’s houses, so it is suspected that there was a cluster of houses in the area.

  In 1856, Julian Feild bought 540 acres (2.2 km ² ) in the Mansfield area. Man and Feild completed their three-story brick mill between 1856 and 1859. The mill, which produced flour and flour, was the first to be built in North Texas using steam power, and enjoyed patronage even in the south of the country. San Antonio and as far north as Oklahoma. The location of the mill in southeast Tarrant County possibly reflects the advanced state of wheat farming in the area and the availability of wood to power the mill’s steam boilers.

  Feild opened a convenience store at the same time as the mill across Broad Street. He built a log house for his family, which also served as an inn for travelers and visitors. By 1860, the core of the future city existed. That same year, the first post office was opened with Julian Feild as postmaster.

  During the American Civil War, the Man and Feild Mill supplied flour and flour to the Confederate States Army, hauling it to Shreveport, Louisiana, and Jefferson City, Missouri. As was customary, ten percent of the mill’s output was transferred to the Confederation by the owners. The small community around the mill was unique in Tarrant County in that it flourished throughout the Civil War. “Feilds Freighters” assembled in ox carts reached Fort Sill, Oklahoma, where part of the Indian War raged into the southern plains in the late 1860s and 1870s.

  The thriving community that grew up around the Man and Feild mill was named Mansfeild, a combination of the names of the founders. Repeated spelling errors over the years led to the adoption of the generally accepted spelling “Mansfield”. The city was founded in 1909 and is still the center for the surrounding farmland. ^[12]

  In 1956, a federal court ordered the Mansfield Independent School District to desegregate; the first such order in Texas. Protests by 300 whites in front of Mansfield School to prevent the enrollment of three black students sparked one of the longest-running desegregation battles of the Civil Rights Movement. At 19In 1965, Mansfield’s school quietly stopped being segregated due to a lack of federal funds.

The racial and ethnic makeup of the population was 64.4% Non-Hispanic White, 14.2% Black or African American, 0.6% Native American, 1.5% Vietnamese, 2.2% Other Asian, 0.1% Pacific Islander , 0.2% non-Hispanic from some other race, 2.8% from two or more races, and 15.4% Hispanic or Latino. 5 996 residents of the city were born abroad. ^[15]

  According to the 2010 census, there were 18,305 households out of which 66. 5% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 66.5% were married couples living together 11.4% women living without husbands, and 17.9% do not have a family. 14.4% of all households were made up of individuals and 1.8% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 3.06 and the average family size is 3.39. ^[16]

  In the city, the population was spread out: 34.5% under the age of 19, 4.9% from 20 to 24, 34.6% from 25 to 44, 24.1% from 45 to 64, and 6.6 % age 65 or older. The average age was 34 years. For every 100 women, there were 102.7 men. For every 100 women aged 18 and over, there were 101.1 men. ^[16]

  As of 2010, the median household income in Mansfield was $100,762 and the median family income was $93,906. ^[17] Men had a median income of $65,229 compared to $48,578 for women. The per capita income for the city was $34,103. About 2.7% of families.

  As of the 2010 Census, there were 19,106 housing units in the city, with a median home value of $197,559 and a median new home value of $243,000. ^[18] About 91% of the population had completed high school or higher, and there were 5,524 companies in the city.

  Religion

  Over 55% of Mansfield’s residents claim to be religious, of which 21% identify themselves as Baptists. More than 11% identify themselves as Catholic, 6% as Methodist, and approximately 12% belong to other Protestant denominations. ^[19] Notable major churches in Mansfield include Crossroads Christian Church, First Baptist Church, Walnut Ridge Baptist Church, Creekwood Church, Bethlehem Baptist Church, St. Jude Catholic Church, Church on the Hill, First United Methodist Church, St. Gregory’s Episcopal Church , St. John Lutheran Church and Christ Church Mansfield. ^[20]

  In accordance with the city’s annual operating budget and service program for 2017-2018. 917, is a historic venue for concerts, musical revues and live performances. Although the theater’s owners have changed hands many times since its inception, the Farr family still resides in Mansfield.

  For softball and baseball tournaments, Big League Dreams has eight replica baseball fields and an indoor football pavilion.

  The Mansfield Historical Museum chronicles the city’s history from a prairie outpost of the past to a thriving community today.

  Hawaii Falls Water Park is 10 acres (4.0 ha) during the hot summer months; while Historic Mansfield is being resurrected to be a year-round destination. The city center hosts annual festivals such as the Hot Kick and Cold Beer Festival, Hometown Holiday Parade, and St. Patrick’s Day Pickle Parade.

  Mansfield also has an extensive park system including 11 parks, 5.6 km of walking/biking trails, an 80-acre (32 ha) nature park, an activity center, four athletics fields, and two golf courses: National Golf Course Mansfield and Walnut Creek Country Club.

  Vernon Newsom Stadium

  Students residing in Mansfield’s Tarrant County, as well as most of those residing in Johnson County, are served by the Mansfield Independent School District with a total enrollment of 32,638 students. High Schools in the Area Mansfield High School, Mansfield Summit High School, Mansfield Timberview High School, Mansfield Legacy High School, Frontier High School, daytime, Mansfield Lake Ridge High School, Mansfield Early College High School, and the Alternative Education Center, consisting of ACE programs and BIC programs. There are 23 elementary schools, 6 middle schools and 6 high schools. Most district schools (other than high schools) are named after famous former teachers and faculty from the Mansfield School District.

  The area’s sports facilities are the Vernon Newsom Stadium and the MISD Natatorium, which make up the MISD Multi-Purpose Athletics Complex, and the RL Anderson Football Stadium located near the city centre. The newly opened Performing Arts Center consists of two venues, the 5,500-seat Claude H. Cunningham Concert Hall and the 500-seat John Washington Center for Professional Development.

  Beginning in the fall 2011 semester, Frontier High School opened its doors to students who applied and were accepted into the school. Frontier High School, located on the grounds of the Ben Barber Career Academy, will be equipped with the latest technology with personalized laptops provided to each student enrolled in its programs. Campus Hub – Provide students with the opportunity to have a college experience by allowing technology to be easily integrated into the classroom. Mobile phones are allowed throughout campus and in the classroom at the discretion of the teacher. The library has also been turned into a student area called the “cube”. Designed as a place for students to work, Frontier students found it severely overcrowded and concerns were raised.

  Mansfield has one acute care hospital, Mansfield Methodist Medical Center, a 200+ bed Methodist Health System hospital in Dallas. Mansfield also has five nursing homes, several emergency centers, Kindred Hospital – an acute care rehabilitation hospital, Baylor Surgicare in Mansfield – a day surgery center, three nursing/nursing apartments, two Cook’s Children’s Clinics, and the Cook’s Pediatric Specialty Care Facility under construction.
