Wilmington Montessori School is a Montessori school located in Wilmington, Delaware, USA, for ages 12 months to eighth grade. It is the oldest and largest independent Montessori school in the state. ^[1] Its facility has over 30 classrooms, a library/study space, a gym, indoor and outdoor stages, music and art rooms, three age-appropriate Makerspaces, outdoor play areas, and woodland walking paths.

The curriculum is based on the principles of the Montessori Method.

History parents from Delaware. It began as the Wilmington Montessori Association with fourteen children in a store in downtown Wilmington and was incorporated on January 1964 years old.

On November 14, 2008, Wilmington Montessori launched the Schoolwide Single Stream Recycling Program to help the school cut its carbon footprint and educate students about recycling and being good for the Earth. • Marie M. Dugan was the founder of the Wilmington Montessori School. In 2004, she served as Interim Executive Director of the Montessori Society of America. She is chair of the AMS Centennial Campaign Committee and the AMS Archives Committee, and was a key committee for the 2007 Montessori Centennial Conference. She is the former President of AMS, a former member of the Accreditation Commission, and former Chair of the AMS School Leadership Section, having served on the AMS Board of Directors for 13 years. She is the co-representative of the United Nations as an NGO. Dugan was head of the Wilmington Montessori School in Wilmington, Delaware for 25 years before retiring in 2000.   Delaware has been inhabited for several thousand years. Before colonization, two tribes lived here: the Delawares, otherwise known as the Lenni Lenape, and the Nantikoki. These people hunted, fished, grew beans, pumpkins and corn. Houses were built from tree branches, grass and soil. In 1609, the English explorer Henry Hudson visited the Delaware Bay and explored the coastline, and a year later, Sir Samuel Argall, while sailing to Virginia, accidentally found the bay. It was he who named the bay De La Vere. The Dutch were the first to start settling in these places in 1631, but they were not able to withstand the confrontation with the local population and were killed. A few years later, in 1638, Swedish settlers settled in Fort Christina, present-day Wilmington, the largest city in Delaware. The Swedish settlement prospered from the fur trade. Several times dominance over the lands passed from Dutch hands to the British. In 1682 it became part of the state of Pennsylvania, and only by 1704 acquired its own government. At the time of the American Revolution, the people of Delaware were unsure of their desire for independence. Despite the fact that there was little to no military action in Delaware, many of the men served as soldiers in the Continental Army. They became famous for their fierce fighting, for which they received the nickname of fierce fighting and received the nickname “blue chickens”. The blue chicken has become the symbol of Delaware. After the war, Delaware was the first to ratify the new U.S. Constitution and was the first to enter the union on December 7, 1787.   When the American industrialist Alfred Dupont married his second wife Alicia in 1907, he began to spoil her with gifts. He hired the famous architects Carrera and Hastings to design the mansion in 18th-century French style. Alfred named the mansion Nemours, after the French city. The built mansion was equipped with the latest technology. Many innovations in the house were invented by Alfred himself. The mansion is a small corner of the Old World, made in the style of the houses of European royal families. The interiors are full of rare 18th century French furniture. The house is surrounded by a garden full of gilded statues and sparkling fountains. The 102-room mansion is inspired by the Versailles architectural structure in which Marie Antoinette sought refuge from Louis XVI.

  People come here to see the exquisite interiors where Henry Francis Dupont lived and hosted friends. 175 rooms furnished with an outstanding collection of antiques. Within the walls of the mansion is a unique collection of 90,000 different exhibits. This is the history of an entire era, represented by antique furniture, ceramics and glass, silver, textiles with unique embroideries, paintings and engravings. The museum has a unique collection of tureens.

  The Winterthur Library was founded in 1952 to provide the general public with research materials on American arts and crafts. Since then, the library has been a recognized scholarly center for the in-depth study of America’s artistic, cultural, social, and intellectual heritage from colonial times to the twentieth century.

  Transportation

  Wilmington-Philadelphia New Castle Airport is the region’s largest airport and is located 10 minutes from downtown Wilmington and 25 minutes from downtown Philadelphia.

  Sussex Airport at Georgetown is 15 miles from the coast. From here you can reach Philadelphia in 22 minutes, Washington DC in 20 minutes and New York in 30 minutes.

  The state flag consists of a dark yellow diamond on a blue background. The date of entry into the union is inscribed under the diamond – “December 7, 1787”. The coat of arms in the center of the flag is in the form of a shield with horizontal green, blue, and white stripes. On the stripes, a sheaf of wheat, an ear of corn, and a bull in the grass are visible, which indicates a developed agriculture. Above the shield is a sailing ship. The shield is supported by a farmer with a hoe on the left and a soldier with his gun on the right. The motto on the flag reads: “Freedom and Independence”.

  The state of Delaware is already interesting because it is from here that the history of the United States as a state began. Actually, on December 7, 1787, Delaware announced the creation of the US Constitution, thus becoming the first state, and paving the way for the new state. It happened after the wars and the state’s repeated attempts to disassociate itself from Pennsylvania, the emergence of the Constitution led to the territorial independence of Delaware. By this time, the new economy had already begun to develop powerfully in the state: numerous manufactories, textile and paper, appeared, a gunpowder factory began to operate, which supplied most of the gunpowder to the country during the Civil War.

  Significantly, although slavery was legal in the state by the end of the 19th century, by 1810 more than three-quarters of blacks were free. And by the time of the Civil War, about 90% of black people were free.

  In January 1861, a vote was taken and the legislators overwhelmingly voted to secede from the United States. However, William Barton, Governor of the state, replied that “Delaware was the first state to join the Union, and will be the last to leave it.”

  At the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries, the state already had a developed industry :
  smelted steel, produced chemicals, engineering products, clothing, textiles, accessories and leather goods.

  During both World Wars, the state was the largest supplier of explosives, and hundreds of ships were built in the shipyards of Delaware. Also in the state were coastal artillery batteries and airfields.

  In April 1968, after the assassination of Martin Luther King, a racial protest erupted in Delaware. And until January 19For 69 years, the National Guard troops remained in the state, suppressing the unrest. In US history, this was the longest stay of troops in a city to maintain order.

  Thus, we see how controversial the history of the state of Delaware.

  However, now the situation in the state is favorable. The economy continues to grow at a rapid pace. Thanks to state law, Delaware is a great place to register insurance agencies, companies and corporations. Tax collections are one of the important budget revenues, about 20%. In addition, light and heavy industry, agriculture, tourism and services are developed in the state. Natural features, reserves and a pleasant climate attract thousands of tourists every year. Favorable geographical location provides ocean beaches, mild climate, wonderful nature. And the historical events that unfolded here attract tourists who are eager for museums and attractions.

  Agriculture is developing dynamically, the main focus is on animal husbandry. Birds, pigs are raised in the state, and fish and seafood are caught on the coasts.   Delaware is my husband’s homeland and I came here only because of him. Although he did not live here for some time, but after my arrival we decided to settle here, at least at first.

  In general the climate is warm

  – Alena, how does everyday life in Delaware look like in your city? How and where do the locals like to relax? How often do they travel to other states?
  

  My city, Newark, student. Downtown is essentially the campus of the University of Delaware. Therefore, mostly there are students who, if they have a rest, then in bars or at home parties. And, of course, sports grounds are actively used in their free time.

  It’s hard for me to judge people in the state, because my family is not quite standard, unlike the average Delaware family. But, as I understand it, the locals are not very active, the best rest is at home, the best event is a house party. They go to the beach, but also in our state.
