Pre-school, Day Care, Child Care – The Village Learning Center

About Us
Programs

The Village Learning center is a family owned and operated preschool with dedicated staff that care for, nurture, teach, and love children from infant to school age. We start loving on babies as young as 6 weeks old. After graduating from Pre-K, your children can continue to stay with us as we provide before and after school care to school age children.

Curriculum

The Village Learning Center is far more than a daycare center.  We incorporate learning into all of our classrooms.  In addition to academic curriculum, we focus and emphasize manners, character, social skills, responsibility, patience, and respect for themself and others. Toddlers follow the Appelbaum curriculum while our three, four and five year olds use the Superkids Pre-K  and Kindergarten program. Kindergarten readiness  is GUARANTEED!

Staff

We have 2 licensed directors and an amazing team of heartfelt and dedicated professionals that understand the importance of continuing education.  All of our teachers are first aide and CPR certified. They attend ongoing professional development to continuously learn new strategies and techniques to support the children in our care.

About the Owner

Hello! My name is Melissa Knight. I am a proud parent of two very active boys that both started and attended all of their early childhood years at The Village Learning Center. My husband and I bought the daycare and took over in October of 2016. My oldest son had already been attending the center for 3 years when we took over. Owning a daycare was something I knew I wanted to do since working in them when I was younger. I started working in daycare when I was 16 years old. It was my first job and something I knew I wanted to do since I was a little girl. I always loved babies and little kids. I worked in daycare the rest of my high school and college days. I graduated from the University of Houston with a Bachelor’s Degree and then University of St. Thomas with a Masters in Educational Leadership. After 1 year of substitute teaching, I became a 4th grade Elementary teacher. I taught for 3 years and then moved into Administration. I was an Elementary principal for 9 years and then resigned to be more involved at The Village Learning Center and available for my boy’s. I have been very blessed and fortunate to have these years’ experience and given the opportunity that I did at a young age. Education, especially during the early childhood ages, is very important to me. In addition to loving, caring, and nurturing your babies. I am very involved and present at the center so I look forward to seeing you and your little ones around.

Meals & Menu

Breakfast and lunch is provided daily. All of the meals are homemade and cooked at the center.  We do not use a catering or food prep company. Made with love and extra flavor so all of the kids will like it. Click on the attachment below to see the weekly menus.

Cameras and access to the building

Security and Safety

Security and safety is top on our list. The front entry door remains locked at all times. Parents are given an entry code to access the building. There is also a release button the parents must push inorder to get out of the buiding. If anyone other than the parents/guardians pick up, a photo ID must be provided and must be listed on the child’s enrollment paperwork as an authorized person that can pick the child up.

We have cameras installed throughout the buiding and in every classroom. The cameras are on at all times and displayed in the office for constant monitoring. We do not allow parents to access the cameras. If there is any concern or an incident of any kind, the director/owner can playback the cameras to reveiw but we do not allow the parents to watch them.

Genetic testing at MD Anderson Cancer Center

24-11-2021

Between 5% and 10% of all cancers are genetically heritable, which means that changes (or mutations) in certain genes are inherited. People who inherit one of these genetic mutations will have a higher risk of developing cancer at some point in their lives. Genetic counseling can help people understand this risk. In most cases, people who need genetic counseling fall into one of two groups.
