The easiest way to edit a .htaccess file for most people is through the File Manager in cPanel.

How to Edit .htaccess files in cPanel’s File Manager

Before you do anything, it is suggested that you backup your website so that you can revert back to a previous version if something goes wrong.

Open the File Manager

Log into cPanel.
In the Files section, click on the File Manager icon.
Check the box for Document Root for and select the domain name you wish to access from the drop-down menu.
Make sure Show Hidden Files (dotfiles)” is checked.
Click Go. The File Manager will open in a new tab or window.
Look for the .htaccess file in the list of files. You may need to scroll to find it.

To Edit the .htaccess File

Right click on the .htaccess file and click Code Edit from the menu. Alternatively, you can click on the icon for the .htaccess file and then click on the Code Editor icon at the top of the page.
A dialogue box may appear asking you about encoding. Just click Edit to continue. The editor will open in a new window.
Edit the file as needed.
Click Save Changes in the upper right hand corner when done. The changes will be saved.
Test your website to make sure your changes were successfully saved. If not, correct the error or revert back to the previous version until your site works again.
Once complete, you can click Close to close the File Manager window.

City Elizabeth City is the seat of Pasquotank County, located in North Carolina, United States. Much of the population of Pasquotank counties in Camden and Perquimans is integrated into its conurbation. History

Situated at the mouth of the Pasquotank, the area that would become Elizabeth City, from XVIII – ^th century trade management center. Thanks to the laying of several roads, schools and churches, the community was not long in coming.

Dismal Swamp Canal Pleasure Boat

In 1793, the construction of the Dismal Swamp Canal brought trade to the city. It is included by the North Carolina congregation called “Redding”. At 179On year 4 it was renamed “Elizabethtown” but due to a homonym with another city in the state, it was finally called Elizabeth City in 1801. The name “Elizabeth” may come from Queen Elizabeth I ^again of England which led the colonization the coasts of the Carolinas and Virginia 200 years ago, or Elizabeth “Betsy” Tooley, a landowner who donated land to build the city.

Canal improvements give the city a financial role and exchanges early XIX – century. In 1826, the federal government bought 600 shares. Additional funds for improvements are raised through the Norfolk Lottery. With these funds, the canal is widened and deepened, allowing larger ships to deliver their goods.

During the Civil War, the Confederate States had a small fleet based in Elizabeth City. After the Battle of Roanoke Island, Union forces send their fleet to capture the city, which they succeed in doing. They would retain control until the end of the war, despite active Confederate-led guerrilla warfare.

In the meantime, land transportation is gradually improving, allowing for more trade with neighboring countries. In turn, neighboring cities become serious competitors. The Portsmouth and Weldon Railway, built in the 1830s, brought goods from the Roanoke River directly to Weldon, and the Albemarle-Chesapeake Canal, completed in 1859, created a deeper channel for freight traffic from Albemarle Bay to Norfolk.

In 1881 the town’s industry was revived again with the opening of the Norfolk Southern Railway.

The industry was further developed during World War II, especially in shipbuilding, before falling into decline in later decades in favor of the services, administration and agribusiness that dominate today. Elizabeth City is home to the Albemarle Museum (in), which is a regional branch of the North Carolina Museum of History (in).

The county has six National Register of Historic Landmarks sites, with the largest concentration of pre-war buildings in North Carolina.

Edenton Colony

In 1658, adventurers from the Jamestown area drifted across the wilderness from Virginia and found a spot on the coast at 36°02′38″N. 76°36′47″W / 36.044°N 76.613°W / 36.044; -76.613 natural harbour, on the site of modern Edenton. The Edenton Colony was the first permanent European settlement in what is now the state of North Carolina.

Edenton was founded in 1712 as “the borough of Queen Anne’s Bay”. It was later known as “Ye Town on Mattercommack Creek” and still later as “Port Roanoke”. It was renamed Edenton and incorporated in 1722 in honor of the governor. Charles Eden who died that year. ^[8]

Historic Edenton

Edenton served as the second capital of the Province of North Carolina from 1722 to 1743, when the governor established his residence here, and the population increased during this period.

William Byrd II, who visited the town in March 1729, gives a description of Edenton in his History of the Dividing Line :

This town is located on the north side of Albermarle Sound which is there for about 5 miles. A dirty cut runs all the way down his back, which is a disgusting annoyance in summer and brings that Caroline plague, Musquetas, in abundance. There may be 40 or 50 houses, most of them small, built for free. A citizen here is considered extravagant if he has enough ambition to aim for a brick chimney. The judge herself is in an indifferent attitude towards the court, since the court building looks like an ordinary Tobacco-Dwelling House. I believe that this is the only metropolis in the Christian or Mohammedan world where there is no church, no chapel, no mosque, no synagogue, no other place of public worship of any sect or religion whatsoever. Whatever small devotion may be, it is much more personal than their vices. ^[9]

Edenton was a milestone in women’s history in 1774. In Edenton, 51 women, led by Penelope Barker, signed a protest petition agreeing to boycott English tea and other products in what became known decades later as the Edenton Tea Party. The Edenton Tea Party is the first known political action by women in the British American colonies. ^[10] In fact, London was so shocked by this that prints appeared in the newspapers depicting women as out of control. Her home, Barker House, is open seven days a week for free and is considered by many to be Edenton’s living room.

Joseph Hughes A resident of Edenton and a successful merchant marine owner, he was appointed First Secretary of the Navy in 1776. John Adams said that Hughes “laid the foundation, the cornerstone of the American Navy”. Hughes also signed the US Declaration of Independence.

James Iredell, also from Edenton, at 38 was the youngest member of the first US Supreme Court. He was nominated by George Washington. His son, James Iredell, Jr., served as the Democratic Governor of North Carolina and later became a United States Senator. His home can be visited through the Edenton Historic Visitor Center.

Easy access to the sea stopped by a 1795 hurricane that silted up Roanoke Inlet. Completion 1805 The Dismal Swamp Canal went into business elsewhere, diverting shipping to Norfolk, Virginia. The locals refused to build the railroad, which hampered the local economy. ^[11]

Harriet Jacobs and her brother John were born into slavery in Edenton in 1813 and 1815 respectively. They, and later Harriet’s children, were baptized into Saint Paul. Their early childhood centered around the Hornyblow Tavern, the city’s only colonial hotel. ^[14] on the north side of East King Street, west of Chowan County Courthouse. Twelve-year-old John Jacobs was sold at public auction in 1828, probably at Market House (Water Street/Broad Street junction). ^[15] Both siblings became slaves to a cruel master, local physician Dr. James Norcom, who lived with him in his house on West Eden Street. In 1835, Harriet Jacobs hid in her grandmother’s house, a freedwoman, on the north side of West King Street, a few steps from Broad Street. ^[16] She famously had to stay underground for seven years before she was finally able to escape to New York, where she wrote Incidents in the Life of a Slave , now considered an American classic.

In 1862 during the Civil War the Albemarle Artillery was recruited in Edenton by a local attorney named William Badham Jr. Her guns were cast from bronze bells taken from the courthouse and churches in the Edenton area. Known as the Edenton Bell Battery, his four howitzers were named Columbia , St. Paul , Fanny Rulak , and Edenton . Two guns, St. Paul and Edenton have been returned to Edenton and can now be seen in Edenton Waterfront Park. ^[17]

An economic revival began in Edenton, beginning in 1890 with a logging operation, an 1898 cotton mill, and a 1909 peanut processing plant. ^[11]

Edenton is an 1886 house. Lighthouse on the Roanoke River. The lighthouse is called the screw pile design because of its original support system. Each pile was literally screwed into the river or a solid bottom so that they would not jump out during severe storms and hurricanes. The Roanoke River Lighthouse, now located in Edenton, is believed to be the last surviving example in the United States of a rectangular frame building built on screw piles. The lighthouse was in operation from 1887 to 1941 years old

Edenton is home to many early houses and public buildings, including the Dome House. It was designated a National Historic Landmark in 1970, and this designation was also given to the 1776 Chowan County Courthouse. The courthouse is still used for official court events. The city is home to the oldest house still in existence in North Carolina, built in 1719 before the founding of the city. ^[18]

Edenton is located in the southern part of Chovan County at 36°3′43″N. 76°36′21″W / 36.06194°N 76.60583°W / 36.06194; -76.60583 (36.061855, −76.605766). ^[19] It is located in the northern part of Edenton Bay, north of the confluence of the rivers. The Chowan River and the Roanoke River which forms the Albemarle Sound.

US Route 17, a four-lane Freeway, runs along the northern edge of the city, with access from five exits. US 17 leads northeast 27 miles (43 km) to Elizabeth City and southwest 37 miles (60 km) to Williamston. For two years, 1951 and 1952, Edenton Historic Hicks Field was home to a professional minor league baseball team.
