Project Ready! is a comprehensive preschool early learning curriculum. The project consists of 4 parts: A core preschool curriculum, (Joyful Discoveries), Playful Interventions, Family Education, and Teacher Professional Learning. The main curriculum, Joyful Discoveries, consists of 12 Units plus the Alphabetics Small Group.
The curriculum infuses early academic content throughout the day and includes experiences with language and literacy, math, science, and the arts. We are committed to improving early childhood teaching practices in order to meet the needs of all learners and utilize highly impactful strategies that support young children’s growth and development. Our comprehensive, creative preschool early learning curriculum is research-based with a focus on language development, content knowledge, and early literacy skills. It was designed to follow the science of early learning and literacy instruction and serves as a model for those in our community who want to learn more about improving young children’s pre-literacy skills.
We believe that learning to work and play together is an essential skill for young children, so we emphasize community building within and beyond our classroom. By collaborating with other classrooms throughout the school, our children get to be leaders and collaborators with younger children at The Lab School and even with university students. As children learn more about themselves, their communities, and their social interactions with others, they develop a stronger sense of their own self identity and sense of agency in the context of the large group.
Our Mission
In keeping with the mission of the University to embrace the integration of life and learning, The Charlotte Schmidlapp Lab School at Mount St. Joseph University provides quality child care to families connected to MSJ as well as those from our surrounding community. The Lab School is designed to meet the developmental needs of each child in a safe, healthy environment. Activities and materials are carefully selected to correspond with each child’s level of development, and to provide challenge without frustration.
Through its programming, the The Charlotte Schmidlapp Laboratory School strives to meet each child’s emotional, social, cognitive, creative, and physical needs. Guidance in the Center is gentle and non-invasive. Positive approaches are used to help the children behave constructively. The staff will help each child take steps toward responsible self-direction. Fundamental to the process is the child’s feelings about himself or herself. Every child should feel accepted and successful.
Our Credentials
The Lab School is approved and licensed by the State of Ohio Department of Job and Family Services. Through the Step Up to Quality program, we are proud to have earned a five-star rating, which is the highest possible recognition. This is a voluntary quality rating system for childcare programs, which aims to promote school readiness by improving the quality of early care and education for all children.
In terms of teacher preparation, the School of Education recently earned an A+ rating from the National Council on Teacher Quality. The Mount was one of only 18 schools in America to earn this distinction. It is our personal mission to strive to become one of the best daycares in Cincinnati.
Our Values
- To provide high-quality, developmentally appropriate educational programs that follow the science of early learning and literacy instruction for children from infancy through age five.
- To provide a clinical setting in which students preparing for careers in Early Childhood can participate in the application of research into practice.
- To facilitate educational research opportunities that engage participants in the process of investigation, reflection, and documentation
Our Curriculum
- With social justice at the core, children learn about the world around them and how they can make a difference.
- Units of study integrate science, social studies, language arts, mathematics, the arts, health and physical education within a kindness to all framework.
- Because we nurture children’s social-emotional development, they learn to appreciate their own increasing sense of autonomy, belonging, and competence while simultaneously developing a strong sense of community.

Cincinnati is a city on the border of the states of Ohio, Kentucky and Indiana, in the northeastern part of the United States. Located along the Ohio River, the city was once nicknamed the “Queen of the West,” and Winston Churchill himself considered Cincinnati the most beautiful continental city in the United States. Today, Cincinnati fully justifies the status of a major industrial center – enterprises of the light, chemical, machine-tool industries, factories for the production of electronic equipment and others operate here. Also in the city are the headquarters of many well-known companies, so, from 19century, Procter & Gamble is based here. The special charm of the city is brought by its architecture, culture, as well as the atmosphere of “small” Germany. The fact is that in Cincinnati there is a whole area built by German immigrants (this part of the city is even included in the National Register of Historic Places of America). In Over-the-Rhine, you can find entire blocks of old mansions and organic breweries. These historic buildings are wonderfully combined with modern skyscrapers from downtown Cincinnati and a suspension bridge across the Ohio River – the prototype of the famous Brooklyn Bridge in New York. Well, the main gastronomic card of the city, which is included in the top of the most iconic dishes of America – Cincinnati chile, also cannot be overlooked. “Queen of the West” will be of particular interest to future students – the largest educational institutions in the region operate in the city: the University of Cincinnati and the University of Miami, located in the northern suburbs of Cincinnati.
The city is located in the zone between subtropical and continental climatic zones. Summers are hot and humid, while winters are mild and snowy. The air temperature in the hottest months is about +28°С…+32°С. In the coldest month (January), the thermometer can drop to +2°C during the day and -7°C at night.
The city is served by an international airport, where you can fly from the capital of Russia by transferring, for example, in Istanbul and New York.
You can rent here a spacious studio or one-room apartment with modern renovation from $600-650 per month.
