Care beyond compare: Kaiser Permanente top-rated by NCQA

OAKLAND Calif. —“I have a great care team around me. Kaiser Permanente has always been there for me.”

Those are the words of Gregory Lee, a 45-year-old former Southern California television personality who nearly died after contracting West Nile virus in 2015. Those sentiments are also at the center of why Kaiser Permanente continues to be rated among the elite health organizations in the nation for treatment, disease prevention and consumer experience in the National Committee for Quality Assurance’s Health Insurance Plan Ratings 2018-2019.

“They brought me back to life,” said Lee, who developed hydrocephalus (a deadly swelling of the brain), was paralyzed and spent nearly 100 days in intensive care.  His courageous attitude — coupled with the expert care he received from Kaiser Permanente infectious disease specialists, cardiologists, neurologists, physical therapy specialists and others — is why today, nearly 3 years later, he continues to improve and is looking forward to walking his bride-to-be down the aisle.

“Greg basically had to start from scratch and relearn how to eat, talk and walk,” said his fiancée Gina Villasenor.

“Our entire team came together to surround Greg with all the specialty knowledge that was needed to see him through,” said Timothy Jenkins, MD, medical director and chief of staff for the San Bernardino Service Area Medical Center. “All those specialists communicating with one another seamlessly depended on our integrated system of care.”

This level of expert specialty care, compassion and personalized service is what has made Kaiser Permanente a leader in health care. NCQA’s annual report, released today, rates more than 1,000 health plans, including Medicare, Medicaid and Private (commercial), on a 0-to-5 scale, with 5 being the best. Among their findings:

  • Only 14 health plans in the country (approximately 1 percent) received a 5.0 rating this year, and Kaiser Permanente has 9 of the 14.
  • Kaiser Permanente has the highest rated commercial and Medicare plan (or is tied for the highest) in every geographic region it serves. Kaiser Permanente serves more than 12.2 million members in eight states and the District of Columbia.
  • For the third year in a row, Kaiser Permanente is the only health care organization in the country to have a health plan rate 5.0 for both its Medicare and commercial populations.

“While it is wonderful to be recognized as a leader in health care, the greatest measure of success is improving the lives of our more than 12 million members,” said Patrick Courneya, MD, executive vice president and chief medical officer for Kaiser Foundation Health Plan and Hospitals.

“I am proud of these results as they shine a light on the work being done by our compassionate and highly skilled physicians, nurses and care teams,” said Michael Kanter, MD, executive vice president and chief quality officer for The Permanente Federation, the national organization for the more than 21,000 physicians who provide care to Kaiser Permanente’s members.

The NCQA’s Health Insurance Plan Ratings are based on combined scores for health plans in the Healthcare Effectiveness Data and Information Set®, commonly called HEDIS; the Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems®, or CAHPS; and NCQA Accreditation standards scores.

The ratings and methodology are posted on the  NCQA’s website and will soon be posted on WebMD.com.

High 5s for Mid-Atlantic States

Out of more than 1,000 plans rated in the NCQA Health Insurance Plan Ratings 2018-19, Kaiser Permanente Mid-Atlantic States is the only health care entity in the nation to receive a 5.0, the highest score possible, for both its Medicare and commercial (Private) populations.

Nationally, there are only 14 “5 out 5” ratings in NCQA’s annual report, and Kaiser Permanente has 9 of them. Kaiser Permanente’s other 5.0 plans include: Medicare plans in Colorado, Hawaii, Northern California, the Northwest, and Southern California; and Medicaid plans in Virginia and Maryland.

638 Power beyond comparison | Immortal Asura Ascension

Boom!

Boom!

Boom!

Massive explosions resounded overhead as Kirii battled the lightning avatar. Blood flooded Kyria’s body as he darted across the battlefield, preventing his opponent from reaching Jon and Laia.

Slam!

A terrifying sword image pierced Kiriya, who fired another lightning beam from his forehead. The two attacks collided, creating another explosion in the sky. The explosion hit Kirii, who was thrown into the sky.

In the end, Kiri stabilized his momentum and turned around to see the image of the blood red sword, its power and depth were incomparable, appearing in front of him. The attack was already in front of him and he couldn’t block it in time. However, Kiriya’s serious expression disappeared as a figure appeared in front of him.

“Back off!” Jon shouted in rage as he approached Kyria. His battle ax flew out, hitting the sword and knocking back the lightning-fast avatar.

.

“Yes big brother!” Kiri replied, glad that he no longer had to fight the terrifyingly powerful lightning avatar. He turned and raced towards Laia below, resuming his defense as Jon’s battle resumed once more.

Healing energy flowed in his body at a much higher level than before, this time coming directly from his soul. John’s hard gaze rested on the avatar in front of him, and a slight smile of confidence appeared on his face.

“It’s time for you to die,” John said as his aura skyrocketed again. He reactivated his three Limiters to help Kyria, but it was time to go further and test the true limits of his full potential.

Asura’s Transformation Art!

John’s physical transformation has taken place yet again, his appearance and aura becoming much more sinister, terrifying and powerful than before. His strength once again reached its peak state, but after the briefest pause, it collapsed right past the previous level, reaching a level that no one would ever believe is possible for a Half-Step Heavenly Tribulation cultivator.

Bloodline Ability: Activate!

John felt his blood heat up and incredible energy flow through his veins, meridians, muscles and bones as he activated his bloodline. His aura continued to rise and rise as each blood cell acted as a small dan tian and released qi into his body. It had only been a month since he had last used his bloodline, and based on his mother’s words and previous experiences, he knew that he would not be able to use it again for six months or else his body would endure irreparable damage with death. opportunity also.

“I can tell that Laia hasn’t fully healed her bloodline wounds yet… but it has been healed enough that I won’t die if I use my bloodline ability now. But that’s without using my Asura Transformation Art on top of that… I just hope she can keep me alive, but I have no other choice.”

He had already used this combination of powers once in his life, and it nearly killed him. This time, he also added his three limiters, and his current state was much more severe than at the time. John didn’t know if his body could handle what was about to happen, but it was the only solution he had.

The combined power of his Asura Transformation and Bloodline Ability filled his body with peerless strength. The space around him seemed to pulsate and warp just from his aura, which continued to grow as if it had no limit. John’s body began to collapse from within, his muscles torn, his bones cracked, and his meridians broke. Laia’s healing power surged into those injuries, erasing them as soon as they appeared, but more internal wounds appeared with every second.

Laia’s pale face twisted in exhaustion as she poured everything she could into John’s body. His current state of strength was far beyond anything she considered possible, and that strength was far beyond what his body could handle. John knew that without her healing, his body would already be crippled.

Flash!

John charged forward, his speed surpassing anything he had shown before. He instantly appeared in front of the lightning-fast avatar, who also seemed to be shocked by his speed. His battle ax split outward, small ripples appeared in space wherever he flew, and the air hummed loudly as it couldn’t disperse fast enough.

The ax slammed into the lightning avatar before it could react, completely cutting it in half. The lightning avatar’s body didn’t offer any resistance, as if it was made of paper, but its body healed instantly and it struck John with its sword.

John’s fist hit the point of the sword and broke it in half. The force of his fist created a shockwave that crashed into the ground below, tearing the ground apart. The shattered earth shattered in all directions, some pieces landing a dozen miles away.

Che!

His other hand holding the battle ax rushed forward again, cutting the lightning avatar in half.

Che!

Che!

Che!

Lightning Avatar healed from each attack, but was met with another apocalyptic attack from John’s axe, splitting him in half again. The lightning avatar rushed through the sky at an incredible speed, while he slashed with John’s sword, which matched his speed and responded to each attack with a new blow, the speed of his fist was too fast for the lightning avatar to react.

The ground below continued to explode with his heaven-defying power, while Kiri continued to guard Laia at the cost of his life.

Boom!

Boom!

Boom!

The earth trembled continuously, as if there was an earthquake that was about to tear the world apart. At the same time, the space rippled non-stop in the sky as the ax attack slashed outward, the strength of it surpassing anything the lightning avatar could bear. His body split in half again and again, and his strength quickly faded as he healed from each wound.

Even with Laia’s healing energy, John felt his body begin to fall apart from within. However, he ignored any pain and damage he felt as he continued his continuous attack on the lightning avatar. Laia’s lips trembled as she closed her eyes and focused on giving John all the healing energy she could muster. She felt her life force and life force draining away, but she ignored everything she felt, focusing only on healing John.

– Just die already! Jon went berserk when another attack cut the lightning avatar in half. He had half thoughts of just absorbing the lightning avatar like last time and be done with it, but he knew his body couldn’t handle it even with Laia’s healing. However, this did not mean that there was no other person who could do the same.

The Lightning Avatar healed again from John’s attack while the blood-red swords continued to rain down on John from all sides. However, none of the swords could harm John’s body, as his current state of strength was far beyond anything before.

Che!

Another Coming of Annihilation shattered the lightning avatar, splitting it in half. He healed as expected, but John finally got used to this time. His scythe appeared in his hands, and his aura seemed to fill with absolute strength for a final attack. A black-and-red aura exploded from his scythe, its power breaking the blade and shaft.

Divine Harvest Scythe!

John unleashed his unsurpassed Divine Harvest Scythe, a power so incredible that it shattered the scythe into pieces after the attack. The space seemed to almost tear apart wherever the attack took place, as if it was on the verge of collapse. The attack came before the newly healed lightning avatar that tried to break through the restrictive force he felt from the martial art. However, his newly healed state was unable to gain strength in time, and the image of a scythe pierced through the lightning-fast avatar, splitting him in half.

The terrifying spatial energy of the Divine Harvest Scythe lingered between the severed half, preventing the lightning avatar from healing at all. The lightning avatars’ energy was rapidly depleted as he did his best to erase the remaining spatial energy and heal his wounds, which he eventually succeeded after a few seconds of releasing an unfathomable amount of energy to complete the task.

“For now!” John shouted in a hoarse voice, as if his brain was about to collapse.

At his command, Kirii appeared right next to the lightning-fast avatar, whose aura was now incomparably weak. However, even in this state, the lightning avatar could fight for a few more minutes at its peak before dissipating, but Jon didn’t give it that chance.

Kiri roared with his mouth wide open before clutching the head of the newly healed lightning avatar. Kiriya’s aura flared up to his maximum strength, and his control over the Dao of Lightning intensified. The Lightning Avatar tried to resist Kyria’s power, but his condition was too weakened.

The heavenly eyes above could only watch helplessly as the lightning avatar was consumed by Kirii and soon disappeared from view. A red light engulfed Kiriya’s body and inside him, and he tried his best to suppress it. Blood flowed from Kiriya’s mouth as his aura quickly dropped, and the last remaining traces of the lightning avatar finally disappeared.

The terrifying lightning avatar was finally defeated.

Word 58. About what God allowed for the benefit of the soul, so that it was accessible to passions, and about ascetic deeds, Ascetic Words (STSL 2008)

allowed the benefit of the soul to be accessible to passions. For He did not consider it useful to place it above the passions before the return of being. And the soul to be accessible to passions is useful for wounding the conscience; to remain in passions is bold and shameless. There are three ways in which every rational soul can approach God: either by the ardor of faith, or by fear, or by the admonition of the Lord. And no one can approach God’s love unless he is led in one of these three ways.

Just as revolt of thoughts is born from gluttony, so from verbosity and disorderly conversations unreason and frenzy 482 of the mind. Caring about the affairs of this world confuses the soul, and being embarrassed by them confuses the mind and deprives it of silence.

It is proper for a monk who has devoted himself to heavenly work to be always and at all times outside of all worldly cares, so that, immersed in himself, he will not at all find in himself anything belonging to the present age. For having become idle from all such things, he can learn without distraction in the law of the Lord day and night. Bodily labor without purity of mind is the same as a barren womb and withered breasts, because they cannot approach the knowledge of God. They tire the body, but they do not care to root out the passions in the mind, and therefore they do not reap anything. Just as he who sows in thorns cannot reap anything, so he who destroys himself with vindictiveness and covetousness cannot succeed in anything, but groans in his bed from much vigilance and from the difficulty of affairs. And the Scripture testifies, saying: “For people who have done righteousness” and not neglecting a single commandment of the Lord, they seek righteousness and truth from Me and want to draw closer to Me, God, “saying: why are we fasting, and have you not seen? Humble yourself, and did not lead you away? On fasting days your do your will” (Is. 58, 2-3), i.e. your evil thoughts – and offer them as burnt offerings to idols – and evil thoughts that you recognized in yourself as gods, and you offer them the most precious of all sacrifices – your free will 483 , which you should have dedicated to Me through your good deeds and a clear conscience.

The good land delights its worker with fruitfulness even up to a hundred. If the soul shone with remembrance of God and vigilant vigilance day and night, then the Lord arranges a cloud there to protect it, overshadowing it during the day and illuminating the night with fiery light; light will shine in her darkness.

As a cloud covers the light of the moon, so the fumes of the womb banish God’s wisdom from the soul. And like a fiery flame in dry wood, so is the body with a full belly. And just as one combustible substance, applied to another, increases the fiery flame, so the variety of brushes increases movement in the body. The knowledge of God does not dwell in a voluptuous body; and whoever loves his body will not improve God’s grace. Just as in the pains of childbirth, a fetus comes into the world that gladdens the one who has given birth, so in the labor of the larynx 484 the fruit is born in the soul – the knowledge of the mysteries of God, but for the lazy and voluptuous – the fruit of shame. Just as a father takes care of his children, so Christ takes care of the body that suffers for Him, and is always near its mouth. The acquisition of work done with wisdom is invaluable.

He is a wanderer 485 who by his thought has become outside of everything worldly. That weeping 486 who, in the hope of future blessings, spends all the days of his life in hunger and thirst. That monk who is outside the world and always prays to God to improve his future blessings. The wealth of a monk is the consolation found in weeping and the joy of faith shining in the recesses of the mind. He is merciful who in his thought does not distinguish one from the other, but has mercy on all. That virgin who has not only preserved a body undefiled by carnal intercourse, but is even ashamed of himself when he is alone. If you love chastity, drive away shameful thoughts by practicing reading and prolonged prayer, and then you will have a weapon against natural impulses, and without this it is impossible to see purity in the soul. If you wish to be merciful, train yourself first to neglect everything, so that the mind is not carried away by the burden of this and does not go beyond its limits.

For the perfection of mercy is shown in the patience of those who prefer to endure insults; the perfection of humility is to endure false accusations with joy. If you are truly merciful, then when yours is unjustly taken from you, do not grieve inwardly and do not tell outsiders about the damage. Let the damage caused by those who offended you be absorbed by your mercy, as the astringency of wine is absorbed by a lot of water. Prove the abundance of your mercy by the blessings that you give to those who offended you, just as the blessed Elisha did with his enemies, who intended to take him captive. For when he prayed and blinded them with darkness, he showed them what strength he had, and when, having given them food and drink, he allowed them to leave, he proved to them what kind of mercy he had (see 2 Kings 6:13-23).

He who is truly humble, when offended, does not get indignant and does not say anything in his defense about what he is offended about, but accepts slander as the truth, and does not try to assure people that he has been slandered, but asks for forgiveness. For some have voluntarily brought upon themselves the name of prodigals, without being such; others endured the naming of adulterers, being far from adultery, and testified with tears that they bore the fruit of sin, which they did not commit, and with weeping asked those who offended for forgiveness in lawlessness, which they did not commit, when their soul was crowned with all purity and integrity. Others, so that they would not glorify them for the excellent rules of life that they observed in secret, were presented in the form of holy fools, having been dissolved by divine salt and unshakable in their silence, so that at the height of their perfection, holy angels had heralds of their virtues.

You think of yourself that you have humility. But others accused themselves, but you, who are accused by others, cannot bear this and consider yourself humble. If you want to know whether you are humble, then test yourself in what has been said: do you not get into confusion when you are offended? 487

The Savior calls many mansions with the Father the different measures of understanding of those who are established in that country, that is, the differences and difference of spiritual gifts, which are enjoyed according to the measure of understanding. For it is not the difference of places, but the degrees of talents that He called many abodes. Just as each one enjoys the sensual sun in proportion to the purity and acceptability of the power of sight, and just as the illumination from one lamp in one house is different, although the light is not divided into many illuminations, so in the next age all the righteous will inseparably settle in one country, but each in his measure will be illuminated by one by the mental sun and by its own merit attracts joy and gladness, as if from one air, from one place, seat, vision and image. And no one sees the measure of his friend, both higher and lower, so that if he sees the superior grace of a friend and his own deprivation, this would not be a cause of sorrow and sorrow for him. May this not happen where there is neither sorrow nor sighing! On the contrary, each one, according to the grace given to him, rejoices inwardly in his measure. But spectacles 488 , which is outside of all, is one, and the place is one, and besides these two degrees there is no other intermediate degree, I mean one degree above, another below, in the midst of them there is diversity in the difference of rewards.

If this is just (and really just), then what is more senseless or more unreasonable than such a speech: “It is enough for me to escape Gehenna, but I do not care about the same in order to enter the Kingdom”? For avoiding Gehenna means this very thing – to enter the Kingdom; just as to lose the Kingdom is to enter hell. Scripture has not shown us three countries, but what does it say? “When the Son of Man comes in His glory. .. and He will put the sheep on His right hand, and the goats on the left” (Mt. 25, 31, 33). He named not three hosts, but two – one on the right hand, the other on the left. And he divided the boundaries of their various abodes, saying: “and these go,” i.e., sinners, “into eternal torment, but the righteous” in eternal life (Matt. 25:46) will shine like the sun (Matt. 13:43). And again: “they will come from the east and the west, and will lie down” on the bosom of Abraham “in the Kingdom of Heaven; but the sons of the kingdom will be exiled into outer darkness, where there is weeping and gnashing of teeth” (Matt. 8:11, 12), which is more terrible than any fire. Have you not understood from this that the state opposite to the higher degree is that painful Gehenna?

It is a wonderful thing to teach people the goodness of God, to attract them with the continuity of God’s Providence, and to lead them from error to the knowledge of the truth. For such was the mode of action of Christ and the apostles, and it is very high. If a person, with such a way of life and frequent communication with people, feels in himself that his conscience is weak when looking at what exists, and his silence is indignant, and knowledge is clouded, because his mind still needs to protect and subjugate the senses, and, wanting to heal others, he destroys his own health and, leaving his own free will to his, comes into confusion of mind, then let him remember such an apostolic word that inspires us that “the perfect is solid food” (Heb. 5, 14), and let him turn back, so as not to hear from the Lord what was said in the parable: “Physician, heal yourself” (Luke 4:23). Let him condemn himself and guard his health, and instead of his sensual words, let his good life serve, and instead of the voice of his mouth, let his deeds teach. And when he finds out that his soul is healthy, then let him use others and heal with his own health. For when he is away from people, then he can do more good to them by zeal for good deeds than he can do with words, being himself weak and more in need of healing. “If a blind man leads a blind man, both will fall into a pit” (Mt. 15, 14). Solid food is suitable for healthy people who have trained senses and are able to take any kind of food, i.e., infections from any senses.0121 489 and, due to training in perfection, from any kind of meetings, see no harm to the heart.

When the devil wants to defile the mind of such people with prodigal memories, then he first tests their patience with love for vanity, and the purpose of this thought does not appear to be passion. This is what he usually does with those who guard their minds and in whom it is impossible to quickly put any indecent thought. When will the man be plucked out of his strongholds 490 , and he will begin to converse with the first thought 491 and move away from this stronghold, then the devil meets him with something reminiscent of fornication and seduces the mind into indecent deeds. And at first he is embarrassed by their sudden attack – by the fact that the previous chastity of thoughts met with such objects, from the view of which the ruler – the mind – was far away. And if the devil does not defile him completely, then at least he degrades him from his former dignity. But if the mind steps back and prevents the first attack of thoughts 492 , which causes the invasion of second thoughts 493 , then it is convenient, with the help of God, to overcome passion.

It is better to avert passions by remembering the virtues than by resistance, because the passions, when they come out of their realm and rise up to battle, imprint their images and likenesses in the mind. This warfare acquires great power over the mind, greatly disturbing and confusing thoughts. And if you act according to the first rule we have mentioned, then there will be no trace of passions in the mind after driving them away.

Bodily labor and teaching in the Divine Scriptures guard purity, while labor strengthens 494 hope and fear. Hope and fear are affirmed in the mind by distance from people and unceasing prayer. Until a person receives the Comforter, he needs the Divine Scriptures so that the remembrance of the good is imprinted in his thoughts and by unceasing reading the striving for good is renewed in him and protects his soul from the subtlety of sinful ways: because he has not yet acquired the power of the Spirit, which removes error , stealing soul-beneficial remembrances and bringing him closer to coldness through the scattering of the mind. But when the power of the Spirit descends into the spiritual power acting in a person, then instead of the law of the Scriptures, the commandments of the Spirit take root in the heart, and then one secretly learns from the Spirit and does not need the aid of sensible matter. For as long as the heart is learning from matter, error and forgetfulness immediately follow the teaching, and when the teaching is taught by the Spirit, then remembrance is preserved unharmed 495 .

There are good thoughts and good desires; but there are evil thoughts and a deceitful heart. The first degree 496 is the movement that takes place in the mind like the wind that rises in the sea and raises the waves; second degree 497 is a support and a base. And according to the firmness of the foundation, and not according to the movement of thoughts, there is a reward for good and evil.

The soul is not at rest from the movement of changeable thoughts. But if for each of them, although it has no foundation in the depths of your heart, you appoint a reward, then you will be close to changing both your good and the opposite to you a thousand times a day.

The wingless chick is the mind that, by repentance, has recently emerged from the fetters of passions and during prayer strengthens to rise above earthly things, but cannot, but, on the contrary, still steps on the face of the earth, not having the strength to fly. However, with the help of reading, doing, fear and concern for various virtues, he gathers his thoughts together. For he cannot know anything but this. And this keeps the mind for a short time without defilement and embarrassment 498 , but later memories come and disturb and defile the heart, because a person has not yet felt that calm air of freedom, in which, after a long time only 499 , forgetting about earthly things, he introduces the mind, for he acquired only bodily wings, that is, virtues that are performed outwardly, but he has not yet seen contemplative virtues and has not been vouchsafed to feel them, and they are those wings of the mind on which a person approaches towards the heavenly and away from the earthly.

As long as a person serves the Lord with something sensual, until then the images of this sensual are imprinted in his thoughts and he represents the Divine in bodily images. When he receives a sense of the inner, then, as he feels it, the mind from time to time will rise above the images of things.

“The eyes of the Lord” on the humble in heart “and His ears in their prayer” (Ps. 33, 16). The prayer of the humble wise is as if straight from the mouth to the ears. During your silence, with good deeds of humility, cry out: “Lord, my God”, You “enlighten my darkness” (Ps. 17, 29).

When your soul comes close to coming out of darkness, then let this be a sign for you: your heart burns and, like fire, inflames day and night; and therefore you impute the whole world to 500 and ashes, you do not even want food from the sweetness of new, flaming thoughts that are constantly aroused in your soul. Suddenly, a source of tears is given to you, like a stream that flows without compulsion and mixes with your every work, that is, during your reading, and your prayer, and your meditation, and when you take food and drink; and in every deed of yours it turns out that you have tears mixed with it. And when you see this in your soul, be trustworthy, because you have crossed the sea; and be so diligent in your affairs, guarding yourself so carefully that grace is multiplied in you from day to day. And until you achieve this in yourself, you have not yet completed your path and have not entered the mountain of God. But if even after you have found and accepted the grace of tears, they cease and your ardor cools down without change in anything else, that is, without bodily weakness, then woe to you: you have destroyed something by falling into conceit, either in carelessness or in relaxation. But what follows the tears after accepting them, and what happens to a person after this, we will write about this later in another place, in the chapters on Providence, how we are enlightened in this from the fathers, to whom such secrets were entrusted, and from the Scriptures.

If you don’t have business, don’t talk about virtues. More precious than any prayer and sacrifice before the Lord is sorrow for Him and for Him, and more than all fragrances is the smell of their sweat.

Consider every virtue done without bodily labor as a soulless miscarriage. The offering of the righteous is the tears of their eyes, and the sacrifice pleasing to God is their sighing during their vigils. The righteous will cry to the Lord, oppressed by the weight of the body, and with pain they will send up prayers to God, and at the cry of their voice the holy ranks will come to their aid – to encourage, console them with hope, because the holy angels, approaching the holy men, are their partners. suffering and sorrow.

Good deeds and humility make a man a god on earth; and faith and charity produce that he soon approaches purity. It is impossible that in one soul there were and. ardor, and contrition of the heart, just as in intoxication it is impossible to control thoughts. For, as soon as this ardor is given to the soul, tearful contrition is taken away from it. Wine is bestowed for joy, and ardor for spiritual joy. Wine warms the body, and the word of God the mind. Those who are inflamed with ardor are delighted by reflection on what is hoped for and prepare their thoughts for the age to come. For just as those who are drunk with wine imagine some kind of perverted semblance of things, so those who are drunk and warmed by it hope know neither sorrow nor anything worldly. All this and other like this, which is prepared for those who walk the path of virtue, happens to people who are simple-hearted and have a burning hope – after constant work and after acquiring purity. This is done at the beginning of the path by the faith of the soul, for the Lord does whatever He wants 501 .

Blessed are those who, for the love of God, have girded their loins for the sake of the sea of sorrows with their simplicity and inquisitive disposition and do not turn back 502 . They are soon saved to the haven of the Kingdom, rest in the villages of those who have worked well, are comforted from their misery and are filled with the joy of their hope. 503 , who embark on the stubborn path with hope, do not go back and do not stop to enter into research about this. But when they cross the sea, then, looking at the stubbornness of the way, they bring thanks to God that he delivered them from cramped places, rapids and from such roughness on the way, while they did not know this. And of those who make up a lot of reasoning, want to be very wise, indulge in delays and fearful thoughts, prepare themselves and want to foresee harmful causes, the majority find themselves always sitting at the door of their house.

A lazy one, sent on a journey, will say: “The lion is on the paths, but the robbers are on the paths” (Prov. 22, 14), like those who said: the sons of giants “there they saw and ran like a pruzi before them” (Num. 13 , 34). These are those who, at the time of their death, are still on the way: they always want to be wise, but by no means want to make a beginning. And the ignorant, embarking on a voyage, swims across with the first ardor, without taking the slightest care of the body and without arguing with himself whether or not there will be any success from this work. Take heed to yourself, lest you have an excess of wisdom as a creeping soul and a snare before your face; on the contrary, placing your trust in God, courageously lay the beginning of a path full of blood, so that you will not always be poor and deprived of God’s knowledge.

Fearful, “a dish that does not sow the wind” (Eccl. 11, 4). Better to die for God than to live in shame and laziness. When you want to start the work of God, first make a testament, as a person who will no longer live in this world, as one who has prepared for death and despaired of the present life, as one who has reached the time of his term 504 . And really keep this in mind, so that the hope of prolonging the present life does not prevent you from striving and conquering, because the hope of prolonging this life relaxes the mind. Therefore, do not manage at all 505 to excess, but give place to faith in your mind; keep in mind many days of the future and inscrutable ages after death and judgment, and may sometime relaxation not come upon you, according to the words of the All-Wise, that a thousand years of the present age is not equal to one day in the age of the righteous (see Ps. 89, 5). With courage begin every good deed, and do not proceed with such deeds with duplicity; do not waver in your heart in trusting in God, lest your labor become useless and the performance of your service be painful. On the contrary, believe with your heart that the Lord is merciful and gives grace to those who seek Him, as the Giver of Benefits, not according to our deeds, but according to the zeal and faith of our souls. For he says: “As thou hast believed, be thee” (Mt. 8, 13).

The deeds of those who live according to God are the following: one whole day beats his head 506 and does this instead of performing the service, that is, the hours.

Another with constant and prolonged kneeling unites the number of his prayers. The other replaces services for himself with many of his tears and is content with that. Another is occupied with deepening into his thoughts and couples with it the rule determined for him 507 . Another torments his soul with hunger, so that he is not able to perform services.
