YMCA SUMMER DAY CAMP

YMCA Summer Day Camp offers a safe and healthy atmosphere where youth can enjoy their summer break. Special emphasis is placed on youth choice, achievement and a sense of belonging, with exciting themed weeks, sports, games, new friends and adventure. Other activities may include creative and performing arts, archery, engineering and nature exploration. At the Y, your kids will leave ordinary at the door and prepare to learn and grow with positive role models encouraging campers to take on new challenges.

All of our camps include a mix of indoor and outdoor activities in a group setting at YMCA locations across the Houston area. Campers are sure to discover unexpected fun! Activities may include: Arts, STEAM Activities, Theatre, Sports and Outdoor Games, Literacy, Group Games and Big Events. Your child is sure to MAKE THEIR MARK this summer at the YMCA.

Registration Checklist

Are you ready to register for YMCA Summer Day Camp? Whether signing up online or at a YMCA Welcome Center, having the following items ready will help expedite your camp registration. We look forward to serving your family this summer!

  • Child’s school ID number
  • Immunization records
  • $35 registration fee (must be paid at time of registration)
  • Driver’s License number, phone number, and address for all persons authorized to pick up
  • An emergency contact that is not a parent or guardian (also need Driver’s License number, phone number and address)
  • Medical insurance information
  • Address and phone number for pediatrician and hospital of choice in case of emergency
  • Are there any special accommodations or medications needed during camp time?
  • Will you be applying for financial assistance? If so, you’ll need your tax information.
  • Do you receive NCI? You’ll need your approval or denial letter.
  • Will there be someone between the ages of 16–18 picking up your child (additional form will need to be signed)

GUIDE: 23 summer camps to chose from in the Katy area

The Katy area is home to a variety of summer camps for children of all ages and interests. Parents can choose from academic, day, overnight and sports camps. This list is not comprehensive.

 

The center offers a camp for children interested in learning about French culture and traditions. Activities include sporting events themed around the World Cup (soccer), the Tour de France (cycling) and the French Open (tennis). Other activities include language lessons, cooking, arts and crafts, and campouts for older attendees. Ages 6-18. June 18-Aug. 17. Full-day camps are $265 (members) and $295 (non-members). Half-day camps are $155 (members) and $185 (non-members).

The coding camp will offer children the opportunity to learn game design, Java, Minecraft Create and drone programming along with other fun activities. Programs are designed to engage children in educational activities while helping them explore their interests in coding. Ages 7-14. May 29-Aug. 10. $200-$300 before April 1 or $250-$375 April 1 and after.

The educational facility offers academic camps ranging from one week to four weeks. Academic camps are led by certified teachers and cover math, science, computer software and SAT preparation. Other camps include basketball, ice skating, chess and robotics. Ages 18 months-6 years (preschool program), ages 3-16 (regular camps). May 28-Aug. 15 (weekly). $139-$270 (varies by class).

The translation and education center will offer a variety of camps throughout the summer to help children master Spanish while learning other valuable skills. Ages 3-12.  June 11-Aug. 9. Spanish immersion is a summer long program and costs $480 for the full program. Other programs have a one-time $25 registration fee and are $20 per day.

Attendees learn advanced skills about computers, and delve into construction, operating systems and programming. Two-week course, half days. Ages 10-17. June 5-July 13. $285-$329.

Students learn the basics of engineering and can choose from six different classes. Ages 6-13. June 5-July 14. $249-$295.

Students learn the basics of Spanish and French, including vocabulary, pronunciation, verb conjugation and basic skills. Ages 6-13. June 5-July 14. $249-$269 per week.

Students learn a variety of science skills, including chemistry, electronics and robotics. Various classes focus on constructing robots, droids and drones. Ages 6-13. June 5-July 14. $249-$295.

Elementary school and junior high school students choose math or test preparation classes to have fun and to improve their skills. Ages 10-16. June 5-July 14. Ranges from $269 to $695 per week depending on program.

Writing Camp is designed to help students improve their writing skills, including sentence structure, organization, word choice and finding a voice.
Ages 8-16. June 5-July 14. $249-$295.

Campers begin each day with high-energy interactive performances. There are also worship sessions, games and live character skits. Participants engage in various sports activities, including zip lining, water slides and swimming. Ages grades 1-8. June 11-15,18-22 and 25-29. $250 per week with extra fees for early drop-off and late pickup.

The Y offers summer-camp programs throughout the Greater Houston area, including the Westheimer Parkway and Main Street locations in Katy. Camps offer a variety of activities depending on location, including swimming, field trips, sports programs, outdoor activities, arts and crafts, science, reading, archery and exercise classes. An outdoor camp is offered at Camp Cinco behind Creech Elementary School on a 220-acre plot owned by the Y and includes a rope course, BB gun safety and marksmanship courses, and archery lessons. Ages 6-12. May 28-Aug. 10. $150-$225 per week.

Children receive daily instruction in an introduction to horse riding and ownership. Along with learning the basics of horse riding, students rotate through different learning centers that include lessons on horse feeding, putting equipment on horses, washing and grooming and identifying the parts of a horse. Carolina Creek Christian Camp provides a variety of sports, an arts program and other activities. Activities include ropes courses, swimming, a water park, wakeboarding and tubing. This camp offers children a chance to spend the night away from home in a protected environment while being active and learning Christian values. Ages grades K-12. June 3-Aug. 12. $398 (four-day camps) and $796 (six-day camps).

This year, Katy’s First Baptist Church will offer a half-day Vacation Bible School program that will include Bible lessons, music, verse study and other activities. The program only includes partial days, so parents are encouraged to call for more details. Ages kindergarten through sixth grade graduates. June 4-7. Free.

At its 10,000-square-foot facility with more than 2 acres of outdoor play area, AKA Sports Camp provides an atmosphere where children can participate in arts and crafts, Bible studies and a variety of sports, including baseball, football, soccer and volleyball.
