Los Gatos is a very academically competitive school, and produces students who are well prepared for college. However, this school is also very socially competitive. The administration does a lot for their students, but there have been many issues with administration including the #metoo movement.    Senior: In the schools of FUHSD, there is strong academics especially in STEM subjects and also very competitive atmosphere. There are good resources for students in developing their extra curricular activities. Some of the choir programs are amazing. The schools managed quite well during the pandemic, developing their online classes and keeping the students engaged. It seemed challenging at first since neither the students nor the teachers were ever used to the concept of online teaching but the district adapted well. There is good opportunity to play sports and as the schools have opened up after the pandemic, it is great to see the athletic teams coming on the fields and playing. Most schools have been very accommodative of student needs during and after the pandemic given the requirements for COVID testing and implementing rules for mask. For example, the introduction at the beginning of the year to geometry was through creating and decorating mandalas. It was math, art, and design all together in one fun, and engaging assignment. He enjoys the very small classes and that he can go-at-his-own pace for much of the work. But most importantly, for the first time In several years, he’s excited and engaged about learning and school again!     Senior: I have been in the San Jose Unified School District for ten years now. I’ve been able to have opportunities that others I know in different districts haven’t, for example, homeschooling, skipping a grade, and field trips! All the teachers I’ve had were extremely nice and tried their best to teach. The school lunches may have not been the best, but for those like me in the free lunch program- anything free helped. Although, when it comes to paperwork and who has jurisdiction in certain scenarios, it almost seems as if SJUSD is in a constant power struggle. Every year, I’ve had to file paperwork to the district and eight times out of ten, we’ll get a call saying that our paper has been “unsubmitted”, which is district slang for “oops, we lost it”. When I needed confirmation on officially skipping a grade, I was sent to three different offices and told three different stories.
