There are toys, books, resources, and equipment available for the children to use. TCLC offers a small group setting in order to maintain quality child care. In my opinion, children have approximately thirteen years of school to accomplish. The preparation I offer the children is to help them be familiar with what kindergarten has to offer. This is not a structural school such as a Montessori, private, or preschool. I believe children’s play is their work and they learn according to their developmental stages. Welcome to Greatwood Montessori School in Sugar Land, TX. We offer Infant, Toddler and primary programs for children six weeks old to six years of age. Our STEAM Studio is certainly a small group favorite where children will have weekly hands-on experiences to further explore the subjects of science, technology, engineering, the arts and mathematics.
With our Grow Fit menu and certified teachers, we truly are a school to brag about! Our school boasts a very large outdoor environment where children can run, play and explore. We also have an outdoor garden and a basketball court for the children to play and grow fresh organic vegetables.
At Greatwood Montessori we teach all students to be kind to each other and to be patient.
We teach them good values such as; problem solving by talking it out without being rude to one another or without having to get physical. We teach them to control their emotions. We also; believe talking to your friends about anything whether it is about disagreeing on something or wanting to play with the same thing. If they talk it out with their friend, and see how else they can fix the problem instead of getting upset or angry, works so much better and sets a good example for others around them.
We strongly encourage families to do the same at home.
We have been proudly serving the communities of Greatwood since 1999. We are well recognized and recommended for having the most seasoned staff in the Sugar Land Community. Our Montessori Certified teachers alone have over 50 years of combined teaching experience and exceptional classroom management skills.

Four non-standard types of schools for those who do not want their children to study in a regular high school
Modern parents have a wide choice of schools to which they can send their children, depending on their interests, talents and inclinations.
More and more alternatives to traditional comprehensive schools are gradually emerging. And we are not talking about newfangled trends, but about pedagogical methods that have proven themselves for decades.

Below we will discuss the four types of modern schools – international schools, bilingual schools, Montessori schools and Waldorf schools – and try to understand what are the pros and cons of teaching children in each type of school.
International Schools
International schools are schools where education is conducted under two programs at once, Russian and foreign. In Russia, schools of this type are most often private, and their graduates receive two certificates at once, Russian and foreign.
To obtain the status of an “international school”, an educational institution must have licenses and certificates from foreign educational authorities and examination boards. International schools that teach A-Level and IB programs and issue appropriate certificates are very popular among students who are going to enter foreign universities after school.

The Montessori teaching methodology is more than 100 years old, and over the years it has proven itself excellently in different countries. Waldorf schools
Waldorf education is based on anthroposophical ideas, that is, on self-development and spiritual knowledge through human thinking.
As in the case of Motessori schools, in Waldorf schools, the disclosure of individuality and natural talents is in the first place. However, there are significant differences between the two systems. It can be said that Waldorf schools are best suited for children oriented towards spiritual development, nature, knowledge, crafts and “returning to the roots”. These schools can hardly be called truly modern, but they have their own charm. For example, the use of modern electronics and gadgets is not welcome in teaching, high-tech is inferior to natural materials in classroom interiors, there are no usual grades, textbooks and school uniforms.
Classics are also complemented by unique classes in mime, dance, gymnastics, and more. From beginning to end, each class in Waldorf schools is led by one leader, who himself teaches many subjects and acts as the best mentors for children.

The first school of free pedagogy on the map of Soviet education was opened (continuing the tradition of the House of the Free Child of Konstantin Ventzel, closed in 1909) by teacher Zoya Agisheva from Yoshkar-Ola. It was 30 years ago. Miners were on strike in the country, sugar in Moscow was sold on cards, a famous poet criticized the collective farms for the first time.
And Zoya Agisheva challenged authoritarian pedagogy. She took her second-graders out of the overcrowded gymnasium building to the city’s Palace of Culture. Here she founded the author’s school of trust “Risk”. The region has given the school the status of an experiment. In the most famous cradle of knowledge, the Tsarskoye Selo Lyceum, where Pushkin studied, there were 29 students; at Agisheva’s school – 24.
“Come, I will reveal to you the main secret of freedom,” her voice laughed on the telephone. And here is Yoshkar-Ola. Solemnly empty in the first half of the day the interiors of the Palace of Culture named after Kalinin, because ordinary children are in the classroom in the morning. And “Risk” was nobly ceded to her office by the head of the cultural department of this abode of muses. Parents transported desks with chairs from the basic school, placed banquettes around the perimeter (it is very convenient for children to compose poems on them in the “creative absenteeism” mode). A samovar entered nearby. Nothing special, class as class.
But press workers can attend without accreditation. And right in the classroom to learn all the local top news from the original source. The fact that on Thursday two boys found a cat in an old car camera. And closer to the weekend, a UFO flew over the suburbs. “Do they fly in Moscow?” – turned to me my desk mate Zhenya Karpov.
After the call, the children went to play football, inviting a journalist with them, since all the gyms in the palace are free until the evening. “Choose any,” Agisheva told us, lingering in the classroom to give one of the schoolgirls a relaxing massage. That is, for the sake of this one student, she left all the others?! Reckless courage. We grew up in a country where the majority is more important than one, and for her, one who has a headache or just feels uncomfortable is more important.
This is a conscious risk. In the hope (and with reference to the works of Makarenko) that, observing from a distance such an attitude towards a “separately taken unit”, all her children change for the better.
While still a kindergarten teacher, Zoya Agisheva became, in fact, their personal doctor. She memorized the history of diseases, proclaimed the health of the pupils as her methodological priority. And only at the transition from kindergarten to first grade did she suddenly realize that her recruits were incompatible with the cult of the lesson that reigns in the public school. “Everything is in common there – the schedule, the regime, extracurricular activities. On a call, they ran out into the corridor, stuffed bumps – and again in pursuit of knowledge. I felt sorry for the children.”
12 out of 24 students are not ready for school overload, a very good psychotherapist, who has seen the children already in Risk, told her. Their nervous system is not ready to gnaw at the granite of sciences. Then why, Agisheva does not understand, did she end up (with all her knowledge, a diploma from the Kazan Pedagogical School and the Mari Pedagogical Institute) next to them? And what is any, even the author’s, school, if not a place of eternal skirmishes between doctors and methodologists, in which children are always the losers? Some heal, others, on the contrary, cripple. And the results are terrible. No exit?
But she found him. It occurred to her that children are energetically and spiritually stronger than us adults. And Agisheva creates the concept “Children are the best teachers.” In the classroom, they are now independently transplanted to a nice neighbor – they are looking for a teacher for “growth”. Children randomly gathered from the very outskirts, from a working microdistrict, turned out to be unexpectedly talented teachers.
Together with the teacher, they make up assignments for annual control cuts. That is, in today’s terms, they themselves select tests for VPR – all-Russian verification work. And at each next lesson, they again choose their teachers, the task, the method, the pace of work. She discovered that the younger a person is, the more important freedom is for him. “Most school problems (including disciplinary ones) are solved not by curtailing the freedoms of the child, but, on the contrary, by expanding them,” Agisheva notes in her methodological concept. Released to the open spaces of mutual learning, her children began to overlap all the standards of academic achievement.
“Children should live and be happy from the first day at school,” said the “Russian Montessori”.
