Where is Wilmington?
Not to be confused with Wilmington, Delwar. Wilmington, North Carolina, a coastal city that is considered the most accessible coastal area in the entire state. It is also one of the largest cities in North Carolina and is easily accessible by car from Raleigh (two hours) and Myrtle Beach, South Carolina (one hour and 20 minutes).
The nearest airport, Wilmington International Airport, is north of the city, in neighboring Wrightsboro. American Airlines and Delta Air Lines operate scheduled flights to and from Wilmington, while United launches scheduled daily flights in April 2018.

Across the river from downtown Wilmington is Battleship North Carolina : An ornate battleship that saw action during World War II. Now restored and designated a National Historic Landmark, visitors can tour the ship and imagine what life was like aboard this ship (it was one of the first 10 battleships to join the US Navy).
For those who want to enjoy the natural beauty of Wilmington visit Airlie Gardens is an absolute must. What was once a 640-acre parcel of land donated by King George II to the Ogden brothers in the 1700s is now 67 acres of public land. Take a self-guided walking tour to see the freshwater lake (with swans), lush gardens dyed with seasonal flowers, and the historic Airlie Oak, which is over 400 years old. A popular time to visit is autumn, when the yearly Airlie Oyster Roast takes place.

Former Sweet Potato and Peanut Plantation, Poplar Grove is now one of the last surviving plantations of its kind in the United States. The homestead was restored in 1980 and is open to the public and is a unique experience to consider when visiting Wilmington. You can go on a self-guided tour of the area or take part in blacksmith workshops and basket weaving. If you want something a little more out of the ordinary, consider taking a paranormal tour to Moonlight Manor Plantation. You will tour the property (including the cemetery) and learn about all the people who have passed away on the property. This tour only runs from April to October, so be sure to plan accordingly.
Art Hounds should head straight for Cameron Museum of Art , or CAM. Book a tour or admire the mix of modern and historic art at your own pace. The collection has over 700 works of art, including Mary Cassatt, and the outdoor sculpture garden features Dixon Setler and Tom Splet.

Best beaches in Wilmington
With a scenic boardwalk and trail leading to the Cape Fear River Carolina Beach is much more than just sand and surf. Visitors can spend the day renting a sea fishing boat, sipping cocktails at an oceanfront tiki bar, and snacking at famous local attractions. hot donuts. Every year on the first full weekend in October, downtown Wilmington celebrates Riverfest is a two-day event that brings together hundreds of thousands of people. Since ‘s inception in 2012, Wilmington Beer Week has been a hugely popular fall event. Approximately 60 craft breweries are expected to take part in various exhibitions and events held at venues throughout Wilmington.

You don’t have to wait until the Fourth of July to see fireworks in Wilmington. During the summer, every Thursday evening, fireworks are held on Carolina Beach as part of the city’s fair.
