Kindergarten Readiness Assessment Results Available
The following message is being sent to all families with a student in kindergarten December 14, 2022 at 5:00 p. m. The message is being sent via phone and email to those with information in our mass communication system.
This is an important message for Kindergarten families.
Maryland law requires Harford County Public Schools to administer the Kindergarten Readiness Assessment, or KRA, to all kindergarten students at every elementary school for the 2022-2023 school year. The purpose of the KRA is to provide teachers with insight regarding children’s early learning experiences upon entering kindergarten in the areas of social skills, language and literacy, mathematics, and physical well-being and motor development. The KRA is part of the Ready for Kindergarten: Maryland’s Early Childhood Comprehensive Assessment System, or R4K.
Your child was administered the KRA. The results from this assessment will enable your child’s teacher to better meet their individual needs. Individual student reports will come home in your student’s backpack between now and December 23, 2022. For more information regarding the assessment, please visit: http://pd.kready.org/r4kmaryland.
If you have any questions, please contact your child’s teacher.

MSDE Approves Application for Virtual Instruction on 3 Inclement Weather Days
The following message is being sent to all contacts in our mass notification system via phone, email, and text message at 5:00 p. m., Thursday, December 8, 2022:
The Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE) approved the HCPS application to conduct asynchronous virtual instruction on up to 3 inclement weather days. HCPS staff are diligently working to prepare a “practice” of what this will look like. That practice is scheduled for the evening of Monday, January 9, 2023. Prekindergarten students will receive a bag of supplies when the bags are delivered. Students in kindergarten through grade 12 will bring their device home January 9, 2023; as part of their homework, they must log into their inclement weather tile, which will appear on Canvas, and send a confirmation message to the teacher. The HCPS curriculum offices is creating the assignment that every single student will do that will be a quick confirmation that they were able to get in.
If your school needs to adjust the systemwide asynchronous virtual instruction plan, they will reach out to your directly with additional information.
Please note, if there is a need to close HCPS for inclement weather PRIOR to January 9, we will NOT utilize virtual instruction. Following the practice on the evening of January 9, HCPS plans to conduct asynchronous virtual instruction on the first 3 closures for inclement weather.
Families can expect additional details to be available on hcps.org, including information about where to access asynchronous virtual instruction, what time it will be available, as well as a Parent Academy video with additional details. This will be available prior to the January 9, 2022 scheduled “practice.”
Again, MSDE approved the HCPS application for asynchronous virtual instruction on inclement weather days and we look forward to having a very brief systemwide “practice” after school on Monday, January 9, 2023. Additional details will be made available as soon as possible.

COMING SOON! Meal Account Balance Notifications
The following message will be sent via phone, email, and text message to all parents and guardians at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 27, 2022:
Maryland legislation now requires notification of parent/guardians when a student meal account balance becomes low.
This is to notify you that parents and guardians will soon begin to receive monthly automated communications via phone and email when your student’s meal account reaches $2. 60. Notification at this amount will ensure you’re aware you have funds remaining for approximately one meal.
Students without funds on their account will still receive a meal that is charged to their account but will not be able to purchase any snack items, even with cash. Consequently, families with a balance LESS THAN $0 will receive a weekly call notifying that your account balance needs to be paid.
We encourage families to login to your MySchoolBucks account and set your own balance reminders above $2.60 to avoid receiving the monthly or weekly notices. Please note, if you opt out of the balance alerts when they begin, you will be opting yourself out of receiving all HCPS outreach communications.
Federal waivers allowing universally free school meals ended June 30, 2022 – students who do not qualify for meal benefits or whose applications for meal benefits from previous years expired must pay $2. 50 for lunch in elementary schools or $2.60 for lunch in secondary schools. The online meal benefit application is available at www.hcpsmenus.com.
If you are unsure of your MySchoolBucks account or balance information, contact Food and Nutrition Services at 410-638-4078 for assistance.

“You still need to think about others.” Kindergarten closed in Kupchino to open classes for schoolchildren with disabilities Overheard
Share
The chamber kindergarten is closed in the Frunzensky district of St. Petersburg. The vacated areas will be re-equipped for the education of students with special needs.
Despite the noble goal, the parents of the kindergarteners were not satisfied with the prospect of moving. nine0003
The administration is liquidating one of the best institutions in the region –
they think.
This is not a full-fledged kindergarten, but a pre-school department at 322 schools. It, according to parents, has a number of advantages over the average kindergarten. There are only four groups in the department, each has a separate bedroom, while in the overcrowded gardens of St. Petersburg it is not uncommon for children to sleep, play and eat in the same room. Only 83 children attend the pre-school department. It was the shortage of pupils, according to the parents, that was the first reason why the decision to close the school was made. nine0018
Parents filed appeals to the district administration. “We are convinced that our kindergarten should not be disbanded, but, on the contrary, should be supported, developed in every possible way and directed efforts to disseminate information among the parents of our district about the existence of a preschool educational institution of such a high level. Our garden is a model and example of a modern preschool institution,” the letter said.
As the coordinator of the parent group Polina Vinogradova noted in a conversation with Fontanka, after receiving the letter, the administration held a meeting. Officials said that boarding school No. 37, which works with children with mental retardation, is overcrowded and cannot accept new students. Therefore, the vacated premises in school 322 will be given to children with special needs. nine0018
“The question arises: did you need places for such children yesterday? Vinogradova says. Do you know how it is in our country? The party said: it is necessary, the Komsomol answered: yes. That’s what they came up with. Why don’t you allocate a separate room? Why is it necessary to close our good kindergarten and send children to much worse conditions?”
Out of 322 schools, parents were offered to move to kindergartens 36, 37 and 40. According to Vinogradova, the conditions in these institutions are “terrible”, groups with old furniture “do not meet the sane requirements.” As confirmation, the Petersburger sent a video. nine0003

Also, according to parents, it is planned to close two more pre-school departments in 202 and 367 schools.
The administration of the Frunzensky district denied the information about the closure of three branches. It is planned to re-equip only the premises of 322 schools.
The press service confirmed that boarding school No. 37 is overcrowded. Director Olga Orlova hung up after the reporter introduced herself.
The website of the boarding school says that the institution has 38 classes, in which 393 students.
The press secretary of the administration of the Frunzensky district, Mikhail Kalinin, specified that 30 children with disabilities are in need of educational places. In 322 schools, classes will be organized for them with a occupancy of no more than five people. Employees of the preschool department will take refresher courses and remain at their jobs.
“Parents who have now raised a fuss only because they are used to going to the same kindergarten, and now something is changing, I want them to put themselves in the place of those people who have so happened that the child has an illness. In this situation, one of the parents is chained to the apartment, because there is no one to leave the child with, and we are solving this issue, ”Kalinin said. nine0018
According to him, the pre-school department in 322 schools was opened in 2014 due to lack of places. Over the past eight years, five kindergartens have been put into operation in the district, the sixth is planned to open this year and one more next year.
“For the next five years, we have a large supply of places, there are no queues anywhere, and there is a surplus of places everywhere,” Kalinin added.
According to him, officials plan to transfer the entire pre-school department of the 322nd school to the 36th kindergarten, located in the neighborhood. “We will talk to all parents, but we still need to think about others,” he added. “There are no other facilities for special children now.” nine0018
