how Nizhnevartovsk met the Pobeda train /PHOTO, VIDEO/

On Sunday, voices with a victorious “Hurrah!” again swept through Nizhnevartovsk. in honor of the 77th anniversary of the end of the Great Patriotic War. A unique retro train “Echelon of Victory” arrived at the railway station of the local station.

The whistle of a locomotive and now Vartovites returned decades ago, to May 1945. Exactly the same composition, led by two rare steam locomotives: L-3111 and LV-123 (the famous “Lebedyanka”) announced the Victory over fascism. They are called the locomotives of our Victory. nine0003

“Our train is a 1945 reconstruction. In June, the first Pobeda train arrived in Moscow and then went on to report the good news to all the cities of our vast Motherland. The echelon is divided into four thematic positions: restored steam locomotives of the 50s, military sanitary transportation, the legendary 227 car of the sanitary train, then – the evacuation of industry to the Urals and complete all military transportation. Here we show wagons from the 1910s and 1920s that were used during the war. Separately, we have presented equipment – the legendary T-34 tank, two modifications of “Katyusha” , – said the head of the train Denis Belopashintsev.

Engineers say: “ Always and during the war years, they treated the locomotive with special respect and talked to it. Pilots have a tradition of running their hands along the fuselage of an aircraft. The machinists also have their own tradition of bypassing the locomotive, knocking, treating it with soul. The driver pays tribute and the locomotive is serving properly.”

During the war, the driver’s cab was also a place for cooking. During the tour, Vartovites were shown how they used to make scrambled eggs right in the firebox. Eggs and bread were placed on a shovel, previously pounded with coal. Now the machinists are preparing, of course, a modern version. nine0003

There are cars in the retro train that worked as a medical unit, a soldier’s heating car, etc. By the way, the wagons were nicknamed the teplushka because of the potbelly stove inside. She did not let the soldiers who were transported to the front line freeze. Bunks were made in the carriages on both sides – twenty places on each. Sometimes horses were also transported in wagons.

There is a legendary vehicle in the retro train. For example, the famous rocket launcher, which is affectionately called “Katyusha” and “our weapon of Victory.” The first application, follows from historical documents, installations “Katyusha” took place on July 14, 1941 years old. Captain Ivan Flerov’s battery fired two volleys from seven launchers at the Orsha railway station, where a large number of German echelons with troops, equipment, ammunition, and fuel had accumulated. As a result of battery fire, the railway junction was wiped off the face of the earth, the enemy suffered heavy losses.

The T-34 tank is another combat unit that attracted the attention of hundreds of Vartovites. Even during the Great Patriotic War, he was called “the horror of the Germans”, “the steel fist.” This is the main tank of the war. nine0003

The arrival of the Echelon of Victory train at the railway station made it possible to plunge into the atmosphere of the victorious May 1945, to feel unity with grandparents, veterans who gave us the Victory.

Deputy Mayor Nikolay Lukash congratulated all the participants of the event on the Victory Day: “This is a great event for every inhabitant of our country. Today we have a unique opportunity to touch the events of the war years, those who forged the Victory in the rear, who ensured the transportation of military equipment, evacuated millions of citizens. To see how and with the help of what this labor and military feat was accomplished, to evaluate the contribution of railway workers to the great cause of the Victory. nine0010

“The Great Patriotic War has many symbols: Brest Fortress, Pavlov’s house in Stalingrad, and the banner of Victory over the Reichstag. And in this row, you can put the Victory train. For the huge contribution made to the fight against fascism by workers of steel lines. Thanks to the organizers, the United Russia party, Chairman of the Duma of Yugra Boris Khokhryakov, for giving Nizhnevartovsk an excellent opportunity to join this unique historical project and plunge into the atmosphere of Victory May 1945 years old. Thanks to our veterans for living under a peaceful sky, and for the whole country celebrating the 77th anniversary of the Great Victory” , – Alexei Satinov, chairman of the Duma of Nizhnevartovsk, greeted the audience.

“Today we have become 77 years closer and closer to our parents and grandparents. The train of Victory arrived in Nizhnevartovsk straight from the 45th to the music, to the joyful “Hurrah! With Victory! Happy holiday!”, to the triumphant locomotive whistle. It is difficult to convey all the emotions, but I think they are very close to those experienced by the front-line soldiers and Soviet people meeting the same echelons of the Victory. Almost 3,000 enterprises and 25 million people were evacuated to the Urals and Siberia from the European part of the country. 400 ambulance trains took out 5 million wounded from the front line. A third of the wounded were operated on in ambulances. 20 million wagons with soldiers, shells, military equipment, food were transported to the front line. This ensured the preparation of 50 strategic and offensive operations of the Soviet troops. Now imagine the conditions under which the transportation took place: under bombing, in the dark, with destroyed tracks ,” said Vyacheslav Tankeev, deputy of the Tyumen Regional Duma.

There was no front line in Nizhnevartovsk, but Ugra and in particular our city (once the village of Nizhnevartovskoye) made a huge contribution to the history of Victory in the Great Patriotic War. From here, about 200 people were called to the front. Help was not combative. Thus, during the war years, the Samarovsky fish cannery produced almost 30 million cans of fish products. Ide, pike and sturgeon were rolled into jars. The fish was cut by hand. The production of hard-salted products was also significant. She was sent to the front in wooden barrels. Children were transferred to Ugra from orphanages. Here, our fellow countrymen literally saved the lives of children. nine0003

The incredible atmosphere of the holiday was recreated by groups, artists of the Oktyabr Palace of Culture and the Palace of Arts. They reconstructed one day in the life of May 1945, when the winners were met on the platform.

A team of volunteers from the Dobrodom resource center and Pobeda volunteers worked at the event.

“Thank you so much for this opportunity to see it for yourself and show it to the children and grandchildren. Goosebumps from a lot of what he saw and tears welling up in his eyes. Thanks again! Thank the granfather for the victory!” nine0010, – Inna Sedegova, a resident of the city, shared her emotions.

Let us add that this large-scale project is dedicated to the 77th anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War and is organized by the Sverdlovsk Railway. “Echelon of Victory” began its journey in Perm, and the city of Nizhnevartovsk became the final point of its route. The train made stops at 27 stations in the Perm Territory, Sverdlovsk and Tyumen Regions, and Ugra.

“Echelon of Victory” set off on the return journey. According to preliminary data, 319 people came to meet and see off the unique train.00 people. These are not only residents of our city, but also of the Nizhnevartovsk agglomeration.

Steam locomotives do not pull for plan “B” for Kyiv

December 31, 2022
10:07

In order for the railways to somehow work, Ukrzaliznytsia went downgrading. Due to problems with electricity, the wagons are now pulled by steam locomotives.

So museum models of locomotives were placed on the rails? This is quite possible, given that during the premiership of Yulia Tymoshenko, most of the Ukrainian steam locomotives were scrapped. nine0003

So, surrealism in Ukraine is becoming the norm of life: here is another proof. Somewhere in the open spaces of Nezalezhnaya, modern passenger cars are pulled by a real steam locomotive. Another closes the short lineup. Such a coupling was used because the turning circles for steam locomotives in Ukrainian depots were eliminated long ago. Eyewitnesses of the unusual spectacle cannot hide their surprise.

A locomotive on the line is an indisputable proof of the effectiveness of missile attacks on the military infrastructure of Ukraine. In general, the country’s railway network is electrified, and until recently, Ukrainian trains drove electric locomotives. But the Kyiv regime actively used this infrastructure to deliver Western equipment and ammunition to the front, so the Russian army had to disable traction substations. nine0003

Ukrzaliznitsa launched diesel locomotives, but their fleet is limited and also partially destroyed by rocket attacks. This is how it came to steam locomotives.

“Of course, now, in the conditions of a special operation, when our response actions are being applied to the energy system and electronic logistics of Ukraine itself, Ukraine is turning into a fragment of the 18th-19th centuries, when it is no longer possible to collect everything stolen, and old, battered locomotives are going to work, that can run on coal. But, again, where did they get this technology from? This technology originated from the Russian Empire!” – reminds political scientist Yuri Samonkin. nine0003

The locomotives featured in the video are freight locomotives of the Er series. First they were produced in the Soviet Union, then in the Warsaw Pact countries. True, not for long – until 1957.

When it was time to say goodbye, in the USSR the obsolete equipment was not scrapped, but kept as a strategic reserve in case of a nuclear war. Compared to diesel locomotives – and even more so electric locomotives – a steam locomotive has low efficiency and low power. Judge for yourself: the steam locomotive “Er” is only 1320 horsepower, and, for example, a pair of diesel engines of 3 thousand horsepower each is installed on the 2TE116 diesel locomotive. nine0003

Now it is impossible to find up-to-date statistics on the number of steam locomotives in Ukraine – in fact, no one kept any registers. During independence, most of the locomotives turned into scrap metal. At best, museum exhibits have been preserved, like those that stand in many cities near railway stations.

About two dozen locomotives remain on the move. Until recently, they were used as retro trains in order to entertain tourists. For example, one such festive excursion train ran from Kyiv to Lviv in October 2021. nine0003

The small number of steam locomotives is not the only obstacle to a return to 19th century technology: they still require some kind of infrastructure to operate them.

Namely coal stores with mechanized means of supplying coal to the tender and productive water columns – locomotives with steam power plants consume a huge amount of water. Not to mention locomotive drivers and repair and maintenance specialists, whom no one trains now.

“Over the past 20-30 years of the existence of independent Ukraine, we have actually seen the collapse of the entire transport and logistics chain,” notes Yuriy Samonkin. transport will not run on the entire territory of Ukraine.
